About the Artist
We, Colporteur, are a team of writers and worship leaders who have witnessed the impact of EarReverent Music on our local congregations and on a growing community of churches nationwide. We take our name from those who would hike through mountainous rural communities with packs full of devotional literature for sale before the days of shopping malls and bookstore chains. With a similare determination, Colporteur desires to take this music from our door to yours so that it may bear fruit in your midst as it has in ours.
Product Description
This compact disc is a sample of EarReverent Music recorded by Colporteur (call-porter). The songs that make up EarReverent Music have been written to address a growing hunger for serious, reverent, and joyful vehicles for congregational worship and spiritual contemplation, and have been thriving among a handful of church congregations over the past decade. These songs are crafted to transcend generational preferences and express some of the richness of Scriptural language that is often missing from contemporary liturgies.
This is an enhanced CD and includes, along with 7 audio tracks, Chord Sheets and Power Point files to aid in the congregational use of these songs.

A step forward for EarReverent Music.......2002-06-16
"Pressed Open" represents a big step forward for EarReverent Music towards fulfilling their objective of releasing substantial, high quality, artistically viable worship music for use in corporate worship. This is not a full length album, but rather a sampler containing some songs previously heard on the first Earreverent recording "Raise a Song" alongside some newer songs. It also features an enhanced section which includes lyrics and cord sheets to aid in the use of the music in actual church worship settings, as well as some background information on the mission of Earreverent Music and the collective of writers and musicians involved who are now identifying themselves under the name Colporteur.
Still present are the well written songs with thoughtful, biblically based lyrics. What really sets this release apart from its predecessor is the immediately noticeable improvement in the quality of the recording. While "Raise a Song" did not sound terrible, the recording on that project tended to suffer from a flat, almost one dimensional sound and sameness throughout. On "Pressed Open", by contrast, there is a depth and fullness to the recording which really allows both the songs and the various instruments to shine. Even the songs previously released on "Raise a Song" have been rerecorded, giving them an improved sound and maintaining the consistently high quality of this recording throughout. Like "Raise a Song", the songs on this release are guitar based, and one of the real pleasures of this recording is the improved guitar tones and sounds present which range from cleanly picked acoustic to chiming and ethereal electric. The other noticable improvement in the recording is the vocals, especially the background vocals, which add an entire dimension to the music. Especially stand out are some of the newer songs here like the lovely "God is Love" with its fantastic female lead vocal, "Awake" with its dreamy, trip-hop influenced sound, and "May He Grant You Peace" with its chiming guitars.
The only downside here is that I had trouble attempting to access the resources provided, and even when I was able to access them found that portions of the lyric sheets would not display on the screen. While the music here is the real centerpiece, these problems with the enhanced portion of the CD could partially frustrate the overall vision of Earreverent Music to make their music available to be utilized in actual church worship settings. Hopefully in the future these problems will be worked out, because this thoughtful, intelligently crafted music deserves a place in the worship life of churches everywhere. If you are unfamiliar with Earreverent Music, this sampler is a highly recommended place to first familiarize yourself with this great music.
