One of my best soundtracks...ever.......2007-03-30
Newman's music is both rousing and plaintive. "One More Day" is worth the price of admission alone. Quite simply, beautiful.

Ragtime (1981 Film Soundtrack).......2007-02-20
Beautiful music. It sets a mood throughout that is rather sad no matter what the words say.
A beautiful achievement .......2006-02-25
The excelent Milos Forman timepiece on the 20's based on the Doctorow novel has a marvelous musical translation in this soundtrack close to perfection. It gets the time and mood of the movie, and reflects its main dramatic moments. I would dare to say that this soundtrack is one of the finest coming out from a movie of the 80's. Besides, it sounds great in this digitally remastered version. Do not hesitate to get it. It's a real beauty.
Absolutely brilliant........2005-12-28
I first came across this soundtrack when looking for Donald O'Connor songs - I'm a big fan of his, and I'm trying to track down all the songs he's ever recorded. It just so happens he has one of the most delightful songs on this soundtrack, "I could love a Million Girls". Apparently it's from a Disney film called Summer Magic, but I don't think Disney would approve of how dirty this song is if you think about it! Donald O'Connor was around 55 or so when he recorded this song, so his voice isn't as great as it was once, but he still does a fantastic job.
Now, onto the other songs. "Ragtime" (the song listed on the soundtrack) is hauntingly beautiful - it really captures the feeling and mood of the time, and puts you right back there. Same with most of the other "score" tracks. This is definately one of the best scores out there, and it's a pity it didn't do better. I guess it's almost ahead of it's time a little, considering this was the time period that gave us films like The Blues Brothers and other such early SNL comedies which didn't require scores like Ragtime needed. It really should've done better, but for now enjoy the soundtrack because I doubt you'll get another release of it!

Timeless.......2007-01-02
I don't understand what the story about a deadbeat dad and raising his kid has to do with this album, but hey.
They just don't make music like this anymore. "Jericho" and "Look at You Now" are just as worthy of praise as this album's more famous hit singles. The former of these I truly missed during Simply Red's last European tour, though Mick's great stage presence and repertoire surely made up for it.
Simply Red's debut album.......2006-09-06
At least in America, the British-based Simply Red debuted in 1985,spawning three Top 20 hits from this album,COME TO MY AID,HOLDING BACK THE YEARS and MONEY'S TOO TIGHT TO MENTION. I have to admit that frontman Mick Hucknall is a vocal clone of Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane/Starship fame. It is possible that Simply Red was nominated for a Best New Artist of 1985 Grammy. I'm sure Sting,Freddie Jackson and Whitney Houston were nominees as well. Simply Red's Elektra Records labelmates included The Cars and Motley Crue.
Simply a great album........2005-09-20
This is what I think of as a great album from an underrated band. Maybe not their best, but well worth a listen. Included is the wonderful and moving "Holding Back The Years", one of their best songs ever, and probably most popular. "Money's Too Tight (to mention)" is another well known song, and rather upbeat. I also really enjoy the cover of "Heaven", as it's one of my favorite Talking Heads songs. The rest holds up well, and is still a good listen after all this time. If you're looking for more than the "Greatest Hits", give it a try.
It Grows on You.......2005-01-24
The first time I listened to this, I didn't think much of it. The more times I listened to it, the better it sounded. I would call it somewhat subtle and it doesn't just slap you up on the side of the head. The more I listen to it, the better it sounds. It is also one of those albums that you can listen to over and over again without really getting sick of it.
Reliving the legacy of Simply Red.......2004-12-09
Simply Red is one my favorite rock groups I grew up as a kid. I was 5 or 6 when they did songs like "If You Don't Know Me By Now" which I saw the video of. That was great. 'Cuz I like the way they mixed their styles in different kinds of music from rock, jazz, R&B, Latin, pop, disco, funk, blues, whatever you name it.
As to put it there this one of the 1st LPs I purchased from them. I love every song they did which is rockin'.
1. Come to My Aid- Excellent beat to that song w/ so much soul.
2. Sad Old Red- Reminds me of the big bands or cool nite jazz I listen to.
3. Look At You Now- Kinda of a Latin groove with more feel upbeat to sound it more rocky.
4. Heaven- Bluesy song with horns playing along in a club.
5. Jericho- Definitely my favorite 'cuz of the message like in a Cinderella story or somethin.
6. Money$ Too Tight To Mention- My mom used to love this one but is sure is killing me with this one.
7. Holding Back the Years- Yeah I know ya'll knew this one 'cuz this what made them famous.
8. Red Box- Reminded me of some James Brown playing on the record stand or something. This is more a funky r&b/soul joint.
9. New Direction- Kinda similar to track # 3 "Look at You" but with a more calm easy-listening style.
10. Picture Book- Telling me to pray 4 Jesus or ask him to seek him for advice. That's what the song is saying on the message of the song.
Sooner or later, I will buy both of their albums on CD or cassette. Simply Red, you're da greatest. Love to hear ya'll perform @ one of your concerts one day. You sound like Steely Dan to me who I'm a huge fan too.

Customer Reviews:
Great Greig collection!!.......2006-03-01
So far there is a unanimous Amazon 5-star vote for this CD so I'm going to add my voice to the choir, and add to what other reviewers have said.
Aside from the Piano Concerto, Peer Gynt Suites, and a few lyric pieces here and there, Greig's music is largely overlooked. So it is very refreshing to find such a great *double* album that presents so much great piano music. Yes, the piano concerto is here, and it is an excellent recording, however, you should own this album for the performance of the rare Sonata, op. 7, the three sets of Lyric Pieces (op. 43, 54, & 65) and other beautiful piano miniatures here. The Sonata, timing about 20 minutes, is a full blown romantic work that could join the canon of great sonatas with those of Schubert, Chopin, and early to middle Beethoven (while leaving late Beethoven and Brahms in a class by themselves). The first movement of the sonata is short but epic in its emotional scope and thematic development, and the other movements are similarly excellently composed without going into the details. This is definitely a piece that more pianists should be familiar with.
The program choice to include full sets of Lyric Pieces is also very pleasing. Often, these works are presented individually. It is pleasant to hear them as complete sets in the published order, which brings out the contrasting characters and colors which the composer certainly had in mind when he published them. Greig's music is indeed a distinct breed: rhapsodic impulse and subtle harmonic touches originating from his Norwegian heritage often hint towards Debussian impressionism and late Brahms, but always maintain their distinct voice. Among the special gems here are the Butterfly (op. 43, no. 1) with its flittering right hand movements; 'To Spring' (op. 43, no. 6); Norwegian Dance (op. 54, no. 2), where a carefree opening turns into a thumping syncopated peasant dance; The March of the Trolls (op. 54, no. 3) which scampers left and right; and the famous Wedding Day at Troldhaugen (op. 65, no. 6) which brings the second disc to a rousing conclusion. Excerpts from Greig's Poetic Tone Pictures, op. 3 and Album Leaves, op. 28 (nos. 1 & 4) are also gorgeously played.
Though Andsnes has, in recent years, delivered impressive recordings of Schubert Sonatas, and Mozart and Rachmaninoff concerti (the latter with the Berlin Philharmonic) and has achieved tremendous international renown, these Grieg recordings from the early part of Andsnes' career (late 80s, early 90s)--which demonstrate pianistic subtleties, stunning technique, incredible character, fluid and poetic phrasing, and a strong overriding sense of form and structure--could be enough to convince you that Andsnes belongs in the pantheon of great living pianists: Argerich, Brendel, Kissin, Bronfman, Ax, Pollini, Barenboim, etc. This music is not often played by musicians of Andsnes stature and global reputation. The sound quality from the Virgin engineers is perfect--clear, crisp and full. This is a sensational album of piano music that show both the composer and performer in the best possible light: a must for piano-philes and Greig fans, and very highly recommended for everyone else. I believe the Amazon price of this *double* album (more than 2 hours!) is $7.97. Which means you can't afford to pass it up.
Andsnes Gives Grieg Back to Contemporary Audiences.......2005-12-03
Leif Ove Andsnes is a once-wunderkind of the piano who has matured into one of the finest pianists of today. His ability to finesse the subtleties of Mozart and Haydn, find the visceral flow of the Romantic composers such as Brahms, Schumann, Chopin, Schubert, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, and still open the way for new works by contemporary composers such as Kurtag and Dalbavie is evidence of his enormous musicality and intelligence. But the joy of hearing Andsnes resurrect Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto, once the staple of every orchestra season but now generally and mistakenly dismissed as second class music, is cause for celebration. His current degree of insight and elegance in his interpretation of this concerto is strongly evident in his performances with the LA Philharmonic and Esa-Pekka Salonen as he begins a long artist in residence period. The collaboration is majestic and deeply moving.
This recording dating back to 2000 and performed with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dmitri Kitayenko is strong but lacks the conviction of his current interpretation. That could be in part due to the less than rich sounding orchestra and somewhat pedestrian conducting. But still, Andsnes illuminates the Grieg with full-bodied sound, facile technique, allowing the music to come solidly from his hands and heart, proving that this concerto is simply not passé. With Andsnes it is truly important.
The bonus of this generous and reasonably priced 2 CD set is the inclusion of the 'Piano Sonata in E Minor, Op. 7', three excerpts from 'Poetic Tone-Pictures Op. 3', two excepts from 'Album Leaves Op. 28', the 'Agitato for piano', and 17 of the 'Lyric Pieces'. Andsnes traverses the various moods and technical challenges of these works with ease and conviction. He simply understands this repertoire better than anyone performing today. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, December 05
Amazing!.......2004-07-26
I just heard this performance of the Grieg piano concerto on a local classical music channel. I have not been very enthusiastic about this work up to now: on my CD which has the Schumann together with the Grieg, I play the Schumann regularly but the Grieg only rarely. That is until now: I just ordered this 2-CD set and hope, the rest of the recordings are as perfect as the piano concerto.
Outstanding Grieg program.......2002-10-02
The Andsnes--Kitayenko performance of the Piano Concerto--a warhorse if ever there was one--is the finest that I have ever heard. There is a great temptation for overkill in performing this but here it is played with quietly poetic but deeply felt emotion and with great flair in the robust third movement. Andsnes' traversal of the Lyric Pieces is on an equal footing with the legendary Gilels treatment(on DG Originals). This is one of the great bargains in classical music. Two CD's for the price of one mid-priced CD: vintage wine performances at a beer price.
Great Performances of Grieg's Piano Music.......2001-08-28
Not only is Leif Ove Andsnes one of our finest pianists, but he certainly must be reckoned as one of the foremost interpreters of Edvard Grieg. This splendid two CD compilation is replete with Andsnes' technically proficient, lyrical playing. His splendid performance of Grieg's piano sonata is certainly the highlight of this collection, but also worth noting are his compelling performances of the Lyric Pieces and the Piano Concerto. Indeed, his elegant, yet somewhat subdued, performance of the Piano Concerto is among the finest I have heard on a studio recording. The Bergen Philharmonic's playing is replete with warmth and brilliance. Those unfamiliar with Andsnes' playing should find this excellent two CD set quite rewarding.

The thinking behind Pure Orchestra is as follows: select 11 familiar melodies composed by New Age-related artists, arrange them for a 60-member orchestra, then hope something special happens. Alas, nothing much does. This installment from John Tesh's music factory is a decent, well-intentioned effort that may find fans among listeners drawn to symphonic renditions of pop music. Yet for anyone who holds dear the compositions addressed on Pure Orchestra (Enya's "Book of Days," Jim Brickman's "Picture This," "Marching Season" by Yanni, and so on), these lightweight, soundtrack-like interpretations will probably only make you long to hear the originals. Tesh's role here is only as a producer, not a performer, though he does include two original, though uneventful, pieces of his own ("Song for Jennifer" and "Blue"). Kenny G's "Havana" sounds as though its re-creation was being handled by 101 Strings. Meanwhile, the interpretations of two Yanni tracks pale compared to what can be found on Live at the Acropolis, and truly affecting solo pieces such as Brickman's "Angel Eyes" and "Longing/Love" by George Winston gain nothing by orchestral treatment. Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone. --Terry Wood
Album Description
Lose yourself in a dynamic swirl of strings, horns and percussion as performed by a 60-piece Symphony Orchestra! Powerful melodies transform 13 memorable songs from the world's most popular new age composers into fully orchestrated, symphonic
Customer Reviews:
Like taking a scented bath in sheer symphonic sound..........2004-12-09
This album comes in handy when you want to take a break from all those Mancini, Bacharach, John williams etc. reissues. The program is drawn from compositions of top New Age artists all arranged for a sixty piece orchestra. The arrangements are quite weighty for the most part with a lot of bravado during the big moments. Strings breeze from speaker to speaker, with glissening brass and horns throughout. Yanni, Chip Davis, and Tesh himself have all used orchestras extensively. Keep in mind
John Tesh does not perform on the album; he produces and had a hand in choosing the selections. One does not have to be a New Age fan to enjoy this disc; in fact I was not even familiar with most the compositions. When your in the mood for a semiclassical atmosphere this will fit the bill. Add a star if you think this album will inspire you to pursue more on the original artists.
Pure Orchestra.......2004-08-11
I loved it! I enjoyed every piece on the album. I have played it several times and have enjoyed just as much each time. I bought a copy for my Sister & Brother-in-law.
Tesh, a savior..... maybe, just maybe.......2003-07-31
If you are looking for some powerful and great new age music, and who is, this disc is not for you. i feel like i should be crossing a finish line in the olympics every time i hear tesh. to call the music corny would be the greatest compliment, and accomplishment for tesh to this day. much worse words are needed to truely describe the music of the infamous, john tesh. now, if you dont take my word, and you actually go through with the purchase of this cd, please, please, make sure your running shoes are laced, be sure to have plenty of water and run that mile. make sure there is something for you to run through at the end of the mile, and time it so a big orchestra stab hits at that moment. well, i dont care for tesh, but i am looking very much forward to the day when tesh, hasselhoff, kevin bacon, keanu reeves (sp) & william shatner all join forces to create a monster, star-laden group, that all sorts of people will buy, even though it truely smells of week old britches that have been soiled and sitting in the sun.
Did not reach its fullest potential.......2003-01-04
I hate to be the only partly dissenting review so far (taking a deep breath), but here goes:
This is a wonderful album in concept, but earns about a C+ in execution. The song selection is wonderful - truly some of the best melodies from the modern "new age" genre. (I agree with John Tesh in his liner notes: "...'new age' music never really gets much respect as a musical genre. It's a shame, because I believe these melodies to be strong and vital.") Unfortunately, this album may not advance the "new age" genre's reputation as he (or I) had hoped.
It is vital to note that John Tesh didn't do the arranging or orchestrating on this album. One can almost immediately hear it doesn't have his trademark lush, full sounds. Arranger, orchestrater, and conductor J. Eric Schmidt didn't take full advantage of his source material. Most of his arrangements sound thin, especially considering the intent was to fill-out the songs with a 60 piece orchestra. Almost every piece sounds rushed and too staccato. There's no hallmark fermatta-type chords one can hang on to and truly luxuriate in.
Though I do enjoy a few pieces on this album, the tracks I'm most disappointed in are the songs with which I'm most familiar. A couple of examples: Jim Brickman's "Angel Eyes", normally a very pensive and peaceful piece, is so fast it sounds like the conductor just couldn't wait to get out of the studio. Enya's "Book of Days" starts out impressively, but again, there's an underlying rushed feeling and Schmidt changes some of the original chords in the chorus that sound like either lazy arranging or mistakes. The horns in the 2nd and 3rd choruses sound really frail, almost pathetic.
Ultimately, this is a collection of great songs that under poor management falls flat and short of its grander intent. One can enjoy it simply because the skeletons of each piece is so strong. The fleshing out leaves something to be desired.
Uplifting.......2001-10-20
This is the album I selected to be played around the clock in the hospital room of a dear friend who was in a coma. Every selection is uplifting, the melodies and instrumentation beautiful. There are no howling wolves, crashing waves, or dripping water...just music that makes you feel good all over. I am buying it for my dad who is a classical music purist (distrusts the contemporary composers.) It will convert him immediately!

The composers Antonín Dvorák, Leos Janácek, and Bohuslav Martinu might not be the names that first spring to mind when love songs are mentioned, yet this fascinating collection gives us a taste of what delights we have been missing. They range from seven Moravian folk songs, collected by Janácek at the turn of the century, to songs written by Martinu in the U.S. in 1942. There's also early Martinu--including songs he collected in Slovakia in 1920--plus the world-premiere recording of Songs for a Friend of My Country, a cycle he wrote in France in 1940 on his way to America. All of these songs are of interest in giving us another aspect of each composer's work; most have much more to offer. Many are achingly lovely, especially those by Dvorák--including his Op. 2, a reworking of four songs from a cycle he had written almost 20 years earlier, and Love Songs, a revision of eight songs from the same cycle. "Good night, my darling," from his 1886 cycle In Folk Tone, is worth the price of this CD alone. Czech mezzo Magdalena Kozená, who put together the program, sings with pure, attractive tone. Graham Johnson is her excellent accompanist. --Richard Fawkes
Customer Reviews:
On the Subject of Intelligent and Sensitive Recitals.......2005-05-19
Combing the recorded literature to find CDs that showcase singers who not only own brilliant vocal gifts but who also possess the intelligence to program recordings of lesser known works in a sequence that makes for intelligent recitals, it is becoming more obvious that there are many singers who opt for purity of purpose rather than 'salesmanship' of careers in the PR arena. Magdalena Kozená is one of these gifted singers whose intelligence and sensitivity match her physical and vocal beauty.
LOVE SONGS is a tastefully selected panorama of lesser-known songs by Kozená's fellow countrymen (Czech) Antonín Dvorák, Leos Janácek, and Bohuslav Martinu. And while many of the Dvorák and Janácek songs have been occasionally heard in recitals, the Martinu "Songs for a Friend of My Country", an exquisitely beautiful work written in 1940, here receives its World Premiere recording. Kozená's voice is in prime condition for these songs and she is ably accompanied by pianist Graham Johnson. The special flavor of these Slavic emotions and songs has rarely been so well captured.
But over and above the beauty of Kozená's performance of these neglected masterpieces shines the glow of her sensitive programming. Recordings such as these are rare and should be included in the libraries of those who appreciate the lieder genre. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, May 05
Lovely.......2004-03-25
This is a beautifully performed selection of Czech lieder. Kozena has a lovely voice and sings with precision and nicely modulated emotion. The accompanying pianist, Graham Johnston, is excellent. Despite the title, not all these songs are love or romantic songs but all are well worth hearing. The selection of songs is excellent. Different listeners will prefer different songs. For me, the highlight of this recording are the rarely heard Martinu songs, many of which exhibit the lyrical aspect of his compositional style. Recommended strongly.
A Beautiful Disc.......2002-01-06
This is simply a magnificent recording. I like it better every time I put it on. The voice is fresh, supple, and expressive. I even find myself trying to learn some of the Czech words (from the translation in the booklet) they sound so nice. Both Kozena and the brilliant piano contributions by Graham Johnson are faithfully caught on the recording. There is enough variety and contrast that one doesn't tire in the least (over the generous 67 minutes of playing time) of hearing these playful, sometimes poignant, songs. One of the best discs, in terms of programming, performance, and sound quality, of the past couple of years.
A stunning burst onto the world stage.......2001-12-17
Magdalena Kozena is suddenly known around the world, thanks to this stunning disc of 42 lieder from her Czech homeland. Most of the songs are short - some come in under a minute, the longest 3-4 minutes. Each is a little gem and many have never been recorded before.
Kozena's voice is sheer delight. She does have resonances in her voice which are reminiscent of her compatriot, Lucia Popp, but is certainly a mezzo - although she has chosen her repertoire well so we hear no strain at the top. Her low resonances are delightful and consistent with her head voice. To compare Kozena's voice to that of the late diva (Popp), it is more pure, more consistent in tone from top to bottom, and doesn't have so much of the `squeezey' quality which Popp used to great effect in evincing the passion of her characters. Kozena can empty her voice of vibrato or let it out rich and full, and uses all her vocal resources to great effect in contrasting the individual songs. She has astoundingly mature lieder-singer's technique for such a young singer.
This recording rightly won a Gramophone award this year. Kozena deserves all the accolades she receives for this - doubtless all listeners will develop their own favourites from these delightful miniatures.
Wonderful songs, and a singer with great potential.......2000-10-08
What a wonderful, carefully thought out CD! Kozena obviously revels in these rarely performed songs by Dvorak, Martinu, and Janacek, and Johnson accompanies with his usual ease and sensitivity. What a pity the piano is balanced distantly -- we hear little of Johnson's variety of touch and dynamics. As for Kozena, she is obviously an intelligent musician with a voice of great potential. It is qutie beautiful as it is, yet the colour is still rather pale. Yes, there is something of the late Lucia Popp's timbre, yet it has little of Popp's depth and range of colour. BBC Legends released a CD of Popp a year ago which includes three Dvorak songs also sung by Kozena. The differences are quite marked -- while Kozena's timbre and interpretation suggests a dreamy yet earnest youth, Popp brings out an autumnal glow and a sharp pain that pierces at least this listener's heart. Kozena has started a wonderful career. Only time will tell how her voice will develop. I do hope it goes in the direction of Popp's unique lyric timbre. No one could ever equal Popp (perhaps it's obvious by now that Popp is my favorite singer of all time), but perhaps Kozena will become something of Popp's heir, while still being her own person. I hope so. But her musicality is not in question. Let's keep our ears open!

Customer Reviews:
Browning at his Best!.......2007-02-24
My appreciation for John Browning began when I heard about the esteem to which Samuel Barber held him, reflected in Barber's choice to write his Piano Concerto for Browning. Barber's decision was motivated by having heard Browning play his Piano Sonata, originally written for Horowitz. So Browning's recording, originally released on a relatively obscure Phoenix USA label, came to be regarded as the standard by which to measure other recordings.
Browning re-recorded Barber's Piano Sonata late in his career as if to make one final statement about the piece. That recording, made in 1993 for the MusicMasters Label, is preferred by many but seems to me farther from Barber's original conception of the music.
It was with great delight when I realized that this CD brought to the public a previously unreleased recording of Barber's Piano Sonata performed by Browning. Unlike the two other recordings mentioned, this recording is a live performance, and it even includes opening comments by Browning to his audience about the sonata. Unfortunately we do not know when this performance was recorded -- even the author of the liner notes admits to not knowing when these tracks were recorded -- but judging by the performance and the available recording technology, I would estimate it was sometime between his first and second studio recordings -- probably temporally closer to the first recording.
However, this newly available performance is spiritually much closer to his later recording. Whereas in his first studio recording Browning seems to have set out to capture a "pure" performance of Barber's work, here he allows himself pianisitic freedom and spontaneity that is entirely welcome. Though there are some smudges, the power and conviction of this playing is spellbinding. Unlike his last recording, this one to my ears is not marred by the some seemingly mannered playing. I believe Browning is responding to his very appreciative audience and he gives them a performance worth remembering.
Anyone interested in Barber's Piano Sonata will want to hear this newly available recording, but the true jewels of this disc might be some of the other works. The disc organizes recordings made in several different venues into a coherent program. We begin with two works by Chopin: the "Ocean" Etude (Op.25, No. 12) and the famous D-flat Major Nocturne (Op. 27, No. 2). The recording of the etude hails from 1950 (Browning would have been 16 or 17 years old) and is remarkable for the artistry, color and technical prowess he demonstrates, although the recorded sound is just barely acceptable. The Nocturne is another story entirely. This recording is among the tracks, along with Barber Piano Sonata, whose origin is not known. We know it is a live performance and somewhere in the first third of the piece Browning seems to move into a trance state and the music invites us into that special moment that happens all-too-rarely in the concert hall when we are simply transported by the music. For most of his performance, you could hear a pin drop.
The program then continues with two Debussy pieces (Night in Granada and Fireworks) both played beautifully and idiomatically. We join members of the audience whose delight is evident when he announces he will be playing Fireworks.
After Barber's Sonata, we are treated to three Etude-Tableaux by Rachmaninov and a Prelude from Op. 32. The three Etude-Tableaux are part of the recital that also included the Chopin Nocturne, Debussy pieces and Barber Sonata, and they benefit from his warm feelings for this audience that receives him so generously. I prefer these performances to the later studio recording of Rachmaninov that Browning made in 1986 on a Delos CD.
The recital then continues with two Spanish pieces [Andaluza by de Falla (No. 4 from Piezas Españolas) and El Puerto by Albéniz (from Iberia)] which are less successful in my humble estimation. Browning then continues with a brilliant and delectable performance of Rachmaninov's transcription of Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, much to his audience's delight.
Fittingly, the recital ends with another recording from the earliest period, when Browning was only 16 or 17. He plays the little known but immediately appealing Etude in B-flat Minor by Francis Hendriks, to great audience acclaim.
This is probably the single most appealing demonstration of Browning's pianistic mastery available on disc. I highly recommend this CD.

Twink is a combination CD and picture-book. 25 tunes for toy piano and other weird instruments, packaged in a colorful, 32-page book about a lost bunny.
Customer Reviews:
Toy instruments make playful music.......2003-04-01
Twink (not to be confused with the "Think Pink" band of the same name) got its name from the tinkly sound of the toy piano, the instrument that apparently inspired this album. The toy piano in fact plays a central role in this album, although there are plenty of other toy instruments, with the occasional appearance of more traditional instruments -- guitars and drums, but also cello and flute. And of course studio techniques. The effect is not just arch kitsch, as one might expect from looking at the picture booklet. Nor is it merely a sales gimmick. A variety of musical styles make cameo appearances, and the music displays a variety of moods. Though always playful, Mike Langlie gives every impression of taking the challenge of this album seriously.
