Editorial Reviews
4TH St. Revue, Sioux City, Ia
"One Man's Junk...blends a folky style with an original sound and chemical energy"
Product Description
Greener Grass, the newest One Man's Junk release, is as diverse as the stories behind the songs. The driving acoustic energy of reaching for a better life for yourself in "Climb High to the Mountain" is set against a jazzy song with Kory Johnson on upright bass, Keith Lindgren on blues guitar riffs, and John Wojcik onmuted trumpet "Thin Man's Chair", a surreal story inspired by an abstract painting. These first two tracks are perfect samples of the talented session players that came to create such a unique combination of styles and sounds.

Fantastic warm and melodic electro for thinking people.......2006-06-26
I am into Royksopp lately and Boards of Canada, Zero 7 etc. This is definitely a great album, fresh, warm, melodic and very satisfying. It is upbeat with certain tones of melancholy. Many layers of music, piano is at the forefront, warm electronic sounds abound, sophisticated, and the fact that she sings in German is irrelevant, it actually gives to the overall sound this certain european sophistication. I love listening to it while walking in Manhattan, very fitting soundtrack to what is going on in the city during this hot summer.

Highly Impressive and Deeply Rooted.......2004-03-30
Hands down one of the finest bluegrass instrumental CDs ever made. There are plenty, but this one really digs deep to deliver the goods. The players speak for themselves on this disc as they dance along the border of traditional music and experimental improvisation providing fans of both the old and the new with an album full of foot stomping and head bobbing classics. If you like Bluegrass this CD may bring tears to your eyes.

The superb fiddler Richard Greene cut his teeth in Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys before moving on to more progressive endeavors. Sales Tax Toddle, his third album for Rebel, was recorded immediately after Monroe's death, so Greene deviates from his usual all-instrumental format to include five vocal numbers from the Monroe songbook with two other Monroe alumni assisting--Peter Rowan on vocals and rhythm guitar and Sonny Osborne on banjo. As solid as those cuts are, the seven instrumentals remain the hands-down highlights as Greene whirls his way through traditional fiddle tunes and a pair of impressive originals--the nifty "Done Gone Waltz" and the furious "Last Ride." Newgrass standouts Tony Trischka (banjo) and David Grier (guitar) push Greene to unexpected places (is that I Love Lucy at the head of Trischka's solo on "Last Ride"?), and the results are uniformly excellent. Greene's masterful fiddle work is loose, dynamic, and spirited. --Marc Greilsamer
Customer Reviews:
This is a superb album.......2005-12-15
I love this CD. With Richard's fiddle flying and Tony Trischka's high steppin', fast paced banjo pickin' it just doesn't get any better. There is a definite Bill Monroe influence on some of the vocal tracks like "Along About Daybreak" But when they get wound up their playing is infinite! A perfect mix of the two. There are no bad cuts on this cd; but check out tracks 7, 9 and 12. This 1998 Grammy Nominated CD is a perfect addition to any Bluegrass collection. You won't be sorry you did.
probably pretty good.......1999-07-17

"The performances on the CD are really fantastic........2005-11-10
"The performances on the CD are really fantastic. Your vocals overall are great and powerful, but that stuff on Bobbi McGee is crazy good. Like, holy crap, I can't believe she's singing all that stuff and nailing it. That kind of good. And Michael is a very cool guitarist who has really mastered the blues. Congrats, you should be really proud! It definitely makes me want to see you guys live." Tom McCarthy
