Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars . . Next To GOD AND GUTHRIE, I Like CHARLIE KING Best!.......1999-12-28

I first had the privilege to hear Charlie King's music in person as he toured The College of the Mainland several years ago. Really great stuff! My personal favorite: Still Small Voice (for all humanitarians). No question in my mind that we should be hearing more about this special music and style which resounded Guthrie and had Dylan-like impact on me. Older and wiser, I appreciate King's music even moreso than Dylan's due to its DEPTH of message and content. Bob Dylan uses poetic license to entertain; while Charlie King goes a step further in communicating WITH his audience. He synergistically delivers what is HEARD by his unique ability to rouse kindred-spirit emotions. Bravo! and Fortissimo!

5 out of 5 stars Charlie King fan.......1999-05-18

Mr. King is an excellent songwriter with songs that compel us to want to have a choice in the future. Food Phone Gas Lodging is chicken soup for the soul...although to see him perform live and sing the songs with the people that adore his music is half the fun, Listening to the album is still well, Well worth the price and time...it would be neat to see amazon offer other works (especially my favorite; Two Good Arms) to such a potential wide audience...many people can benefit from hearing Charlie's music... I know I am.

4 out of 5 stars Consistent social commentary, with a nicely mixed pace........1998-11-05

This is Charlie King the aging social critic, ever loving, talented, creative: though not so melodious as he was in his early audio tape, which included his "Acceptable Risks" about the abuses, dangers, and inherent dangers of nuclear fission, and about toxic waste dumping, environmental racism, and other NIMBY phenomena related to the tendency of profit-mongers to take even our lives and health without our permission or education. This album, in contrast, protests mainly foreign cars, importing jobs, anti-union backlash, and racism and sexism. Each song makes a unique and important contribution, like each person. The listener will soon come to know Charlie wel, and to trust Charlie's good judgment and strong art.
