    Dynastic zydeco star Sean Ardoin comes from one of Louisiana's most storied musical families, but he's never been afraid to expand and embellish the traditional sound with modern musical sensibilities, including everything from hip-hop to reggae. Ardoin, however, always stays true to the tradition of zydeco as dance music, and Home Brew, bubbling over with tasty bayou rhythms, should easily energize and satisfy any pair of dancing feet. It's a little more traditional than Ardoin's uniformly excellent Pullin' (which was dubbed the best zydeco recording of 2001 by New Orleans's Offbeat magazine), but it still incorporates judicious amounts of swamp soul and Southern funk, as well as the down-home blues of the title track. Ardoin, who wrote, arranged, and produced every track, sings with conviction and handles the accordion, especially on "Back Porch," like he was born to play the instrument. His personalized take on zydeco and his conspicuous growth as a songwriter and swamp stylist elevate him to the top tier of contemporary zydeco creators. This contemporary zydeco master has created an album steeped in the genre's decades-old tradition as a fun-loving and moving dance music. "Home Brew" showcases the old school flip side of ZydeKool, along with Sean's patented contemporary touch, and demonstrates how Sean Ardoin represents both the rural roots and progressive future of Louisiana's foot-stomping Creole zydeco sound like no other artist.

    "Home Brew" is guaranteed to get anyone's feet moving, and more - it truly confirms that a great new songwriting and performing talent has emerged from southwest Louisiana. Sean tends towards the old school on "Home Brew" with sure-to-be dancer favorites like "Fumba Laka Chumba," "Back To You," "Kemo Sabe" and more. But he also seamlessly mixes it up, sliding into a swing out groove on two moving numbers, "Love, All For You" and "The Call," reaching for the sky with the gospel-influenced zydeco anthem "I'm Still Here" and bringing it back home with the truly old time charm of "Back Porch" and the gut bucket blues of the title cut, "Home Brew."

    Sean Ardoin's ZydeKool sound is at once propulsive and irresistible, filled with pop hooks and driving dance beats. Many see him as the future of zydeco, and a natural to crossover to a wider audience. Sean wrote, arranged and produced every cut on "Home Brew" - in addition to singing and playing both accordion and drums - as he did on "Pullin'." His inventive compositions build on the legacy of zydeco innovators such as Beau Jocque and Boozoo Chavis, and local favorites such as Keith Frank, while showcasing Sean's innovative vocal arrangements and his funk and R&B influences.

    This CD is great, but you really need to see these guys live. With their sweet mixture of funk, reggae, hip hop and groove, you are sure to be on the dance floor shaking what you got. This CD is diverse in style a keeps you wanting more. My personal faverites are "Retreat" "Red Stipe" and "Mojito" with their great reggae horns and hip hop lyrics. You can catch these guys playing all around the Bay Area keeping the ladies on the dance floor and the drinks flowing. I have only seen their CD for sale at their shows, but if you see it anywhere else, pick it up and enjoy this greast collective of music.

        Lou Dog rocks, he's created a completly individual style of music which cannot be matched. I'd advise anyone to listen to a truly undescribable album.

        For me, Lou Dog is not just a great singer but also a role model. Having listened to his music and having paid great attention to the lyrics, I find Lou Dog to be an amazing artist whose potential is unlimited. There are many great songs on this cd. A personal favorite is At Ease, which truly is an amazing song. In addition, The Second Time Around, Slowly Drifting, and Feelin' Fine are a few of my favorite Lou Dog Songs. Although Lou Dog is somewhat of a mystery, his music is incredible. Once you put on this cd, you will find yourself liking Lou Dog as much or more than any other billboard hit cd. Overall, I give this cd 5 stars. It has a wide variety of songs, each masterfully composed. I recommend this cd, whether or not you have heard of Lou Dog. There is no way to find the music that suits you without trying new artists, and if one should try any new artist, Lou Dog is the one.
