An unmistakeable classic. The Four Brothers have proven to be one of Zimbabwe's top acts, and their first "Best Of.." compilation surely does not disappoint. Filled with 16 glorious guitar tracks, Makorokoto will definitely get you hooked on the mastery of Zimbabwean guitar. This album is everything it is said to be.

Sweet Zimbabwean Soul.......2000-09-12

The Four Brothers, though not brothers, are four musicians very much in sync. Their line-up is simple: Bass/drums/lead/rhythm and vocals, backed up by a horn section on some tracks. Their strengths are that their sound is raw and soulful, and their compositions beautiful, ranging from the laid back GUHWA URI MWANA WAANI, to the frenetic WAPENGA NAYO BONUS. This CD consists of 16 tracks and contains very nearly 80 minutes of spirit-raising lyrics dealing with such human experiences as the destructive power of gossip, jealousy, unfaithfulness, the joys of love, marriage and parenthood, and most importantly, the celebration of freedom (MAKOROKOTO), all sung from the heart. The style is unmistakably Zimbabwean, and comparisons with Thomas Mapfuno apt upto a point. However these guys have a family likeness all their own.

Back In Time.......2001-02-23

I went back to my youth yesterday when I put on this upbeat CD. Once again I was sitting on a gym floor of a local college or in an auditorium chair, as I listened to the Brothers Four in person! I found myself smiling and singing along with four old friends. Their music is timeless and their voices - WOW!

Greenfields.......2001-02-04

I knew John when we were teenagers in the State of Washington. When I heard his hit, GREENFIELDS, I wasn't the least surprised. He was the singer at parties which were frequent occurrences in the Wenatchee Valley. When he danced, he had music in his feet. He would twirl his girl, in her full skirt with many petticoats around the dance floor in a flurry, always in time to the music. He was a fegi and was very proud of that accomplishment...

One of two Best of Brothers Four.......1999-12-18

This CD on Vanguard, is one of TWO that are out. This one is the "Best of", the other "Greatest Hits." This one is my favorite, although I have both. There are SEVEN songs on this CD that are not on any other. "Four Strong Winds" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

Great collection and excellent sound quality........1999-01-14

I have recently had a "return to the folk era" frenzy and purchased several of the Brothers disks. This is the best in my opinion. The hits here are the ones I remember the group being famous for. It's a fairly short CD, but what's there is good.
