Trailer Park Musical a good hear........2007-05-15
This musical is a good laugh and can bring up the spirits of any musical theatre buff. The voices are excellent and they showcase a great characterization of the personages represented in the show. It is a CD that entices the listener to go ahead and get tickets to the show and go see it. Also a personal acquaintance of mine Leslie Kritzer does a phenomenal job on the CD.
A Tornado of Fun!.......2007-04-10
This seems to be my year for finding recordings of lesser known musicals that are just awesome. It started with buying Zombie Prom, and continues with The Great American Trailer Park Musical!
But this show is just all-out fun! The tunes are catchy (I got one of them running through my head, right now) and the lyrics are quite clever. The three main ladies become the Greek chorus, telling us about life in their trailer park, Armadillo Acres, located in Starke, Florida. The show then focuses on one agoraphobic housewife who hasn't left her trailer in 20 years, and her husband who has had enough and starts fooling around with a stripper who is on the run from her boyfriend. Sound crazy? It is! And a whole lotta fun!
Yes, there are some explicit lyrics, but nothing excessive. So do yourself a favor and give this album a listen. You might just want to move into your own "manufactured home" before you know it.
One Of My Favorite New Musicals In Years.......2007-01-31
When I tell people about this show, I tell them it is far better than it had to be... With a title like that, the audience draw is already built in, but with great songs and a very clever story (without ever being offensive or degrading) this musical is a fun hit. And while it is not the old-school "Okalhoma" style musical, there are a lot of musical niceties about the show - layered melody lines, tight harmonies and clever clever phrases and lyrics. I fully recommend it.
The show (and Recording) ROCKS.......2006-09-26
The whole point of theatre, even in a tongue-in-cheek satire like this one, is to have some sense of truth. The "Great American Trailer Park Musical" completely hits the target dead-on. With it's ridiculous pop culture references, use of white trash musical pastiche (honky tonk country, corporate rock, wedding disco, and the like), and general use of bad taste in a visual (and audio) aesthetic, the show is one loaded joke that never tires. And the over the top performances, all grounded in this evident truth, provide an evening of Laugh after Laugh - more so than similar pieces like "Urinetown" and "Altar Boys".
Sure the language, for those who have expressed concern in above reviews, can be strong at times. But never is the language used in a matter of fact fashion. For those who have ever even remotely hung around a trailer park (as it quite Clearly states in the TITLE) or even around those who inhabit a Sociologists Jackpot of research, You know that crude humor and strong language are staple of the norm.
"Oklahoma" and "Cats" this show is not. However, "Great American Trailer Park Musical" is a definite piece to listen and pay attention to. With the general climate of new musicals to be either repackaged musicals from movies (Wedding Singer, Hairspray, Footloose, etc) or jukebox musicals (Mamma Mia, All Shook Up, Hot Feet, etc) - there is a new genre that is emerging, the "in-joke" musical. Trailer Park, Altar Boys, Spelling Bee, and title of show are examples of this. These are shows that blur satire and exaggeration with real life all the while dealing in a specific subject matter.
"Trailer Park" is a hip, new and exciting piece of music theatre, even if not groundbreaking. For those who like to play it safe may I suggest the "20 Great Broadway ShowStoppers" CD - all songs are from 1932 to 1949. You will be sure no profane language will infect you there.
Wasn't That Funny.......2006-07-29
I gave this a good listen, but did not find it all that funny ... or memorable.

Michael Peloquin Blasts!!!!.......2002-11-29
Long-time Bay area sideman Michael Peloquin steps out into the limelight on this, his debut solo CD. Featuring a cast of some of San Francisco's to musicians, including Tommy Castro and Stve Freund, Peloquin absolutely blows the listener away with amazingly tight horn arrangements and a blistering hot rhythm section.
Peloquin shows us unequivacobly that he can sing as well as he plays sax and harmonica. He never overdoes it and any of the songs. The songwriting is worthy of any of the great R&B masters. If you haven't had the chance to tune into Michael Peloquin yet, I definitely suggest that you give this CD a listen.
Oh My Oh My - What a disc!.......2002-05-19
This is a such a good disk I do not know where to begin other than this disk has been played nearly everyday for the past four months. The only other recordings to have this distinction are Miles' Kind of Blue and Coltrane's A Love Supreme.
This recording shows why Michael is considered one of the top harmonica players in the world today. Michael Peloquin's harp technique and musicianship is rivaled by maybe one other harmonica player in the history of the instrument. This guy is definately one of my favorites and that's only part of what he does....his song writing, vocals and sax playing is equally stellar.
From funk to deeply moving blues this disk has it all and I after months of owning this disk I STILL get goosebumps everytime I have it on.
Michael, you simply rock!
As any clown will plainly be able to discern,.......2002-04-21
you do not have to be a 20 year veteran San Francisco Bay area
music scene to able tell Michael"Grumpy"Peloquins planet is far
from flat. It's well rounded and filled with intelligent life.
You'll be getting out the "air harmonica" after the first tune.
Don't let the cover mislead you.......2002-04-20
This is a fine, fine collection tunes by one San Francisco's
premier musicians. Michael"Grumpy" Peloquin is a player whose experience shows. I enjoyed his first solo effort throughly.
Rare skills are on display.
This is a must have........2002-04-12
This CD is a tasty combination of all of Michaels abilities as a
writer, arranger, player and vocalist. His 20 plus years of experience in R&B meld into a CD where every track is fresh, different and exciting.
His harmonica playing especially sets him apart. One listen and you'll see why he earned the title of Hohner World Champion in 1997. Combining a very advanced technique called overblowing, he takes the instrument to new heights.
I would urge everyone to make this CD a part of their collection.
It is always on the top of mine.

Two Dylan Records full of Heart, Soul, Love and Pain.......2006-09-12
Another Side of Bob Dylan I Was So Much Older Then
For me "My Back Pages" is the best song on "Another Side," because it so captures the way I felt when I was growing up. I knew so much more than my mother, really I did. But you know how it goes, as you get older, you realize just how much you didn't know and I didn't know a lot and Bob Dylan really nails this. "It Ain't Me, Babe" is probably the most famous song on this album, but there are others just as good, like "To Ramona" and "Ballad in Plain D" for instance. And, of course, I have to mention the ultimate protest song, the ultimate political song, "Chimes of Freedom." If that song doesn't make you want to rages against the establishment and try to make a difference, nothing ever will.
Blood on the Tracks Songs of Love and Pain
You can really feel the emotion in the songs on Blood on the Tracks, especially "Tangled Up in Blue" and "If You See Her, Say Hello." But for me the song that really sums up the way Bob Dylan was feeling when he put out this album is "Buckets of Rain," because this album is certainly full of buckets of tears. Bob Dylan's voice is in pure form on this album and the two bands that back him on the songs really seemed tuned into what Dylan is singing about. These songs of love and pain are certainly some of Bob Dylan's best work.
Masterworks by a Master Poet.......2006-08-27
"Another Side" is one of my favorite Dylan albums. I must confess, I really, really like his early stuff. I love the anger in his voice back then. Yes the stuff that comes later is very good, especially "Blood on the Tracks" which kind of reminds me of "Another Side" in a lot of ways, but this record, the last acoustic record Dylan will do for a very long time, is something very special. "Chimes of Freedom" is my favorite all time Dylan song and like "The Times They Are A-Changing," it still has meaning today. It Ain't Me Babe" is sort of like a love song in reverse and you can't help but love it.
Where as I thought "Another Side" showed an angry poet, this record shows us the same man, grown older and full of pain. Some of the songs just want to make you cry, they are so good, so personal. It's really hard to praise "Blood on the Tracks" enough. It's one of the best records ever made. The imagery in "Tangled Up In Blue," will stay with you long after the record ends. "If You See Her, Say Hello" will move you as will "You're a Big Girl Now." "Idiot Winds" will haunt you and "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts," will excite you.
Both the records in this set are simply outstanding. A couple of my favorite two Dylan records, that's what these are. Both simply masterworks.
We Were All So Much Older Then.......2006-06-02
I cannot describe the words and imagery conjured up by Bob Dylan in the song, "The Chimes of Freedom" on "Another Side." This is certainly on of the best songs, he or anyone has ever penned. You can find as much or as little in this song about America then and now, yourself then and now, things too numerous to mention walk through the phrases, words fail me, but they didn't fail the young Bob Dylan. Get this record, play this song, you'll see what I'm talking about. "I Shall Be Free No. 10" is a humorous rendition of Dylan's view of America. Some of the images and people mention might not be known by the children or grandchildren of the Boomers, but you can Google Barry Goldwater and the like if you want to get this funny song. At times, because Dylan goes between humor, protest and love songs, this record might seem a little uneven, because, for example, you're still laughing at "Motorpsycho Nitemare" when all of a sudden you're jerked right into the very serious, "My Back Pages." Didn't we all know more than our parents, weren't we all so much older then.
From the first chord of "Tangled Up In Blue" on "Blood on the Tracks" you know you're listening to something special. The song draws you in, sends chills up your spine, it's so good. Then it chews you up and spits you out right into "Simple Twist of Fate", another chiller of a song. I've read that Dylan was going through rough times when he recorded this record and in typical Dylan fashion he's put his life on his sleeve for all to see. He's in pain and you really feel it when you listen to these songs.
Two Very Good, Gut Wrenching Records.......2006-06-02
There are so many sides to "Another Side" that I hardly know where to begin, other than to say that I absolutely loved it. There is a lot to learn here about the times then and how they haven't really changed all that much, but you get that a lot in early Dylan records. Also, traveling salesmen should never, ever take a shower with the farmer's daughter. How could you not like a song where a farmer accuses a salesman of being an "unpatriotic, rotten, doctor, commie rat." Then of course there is the haunting, "To Ramona," the prophetic "Chimes of Freedom" and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention "I Don't Believe You," a song about a lad who has been recently dumped, but can't get over the girl even though "She acts like we never have met." I'm not very fond of "All I Really Want to Do." For some reason I keep picturing Sonny and Cher when I hear this song. I loved all the other stuff on the record though. There are many sides of Dylan here, his protest songs, which we won't be seeing very many more of after this record. His humor, which we well see more of later on. His piano playing, which also we'll be seeing more of and his ability to turn out a love song, which we will certainly be seeing more of.
"Blood on the Tracks" is an album of broken love. There is so much sadness here. But there is also the best cowboy ballad on this record since Marty Robbins' "El Paso" and "Big Iron." "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts" just goes on and on, seemingly without end, then poof, it's over and the Jack of Hearts has gotten away with all the cash. You need a refreshing, uplifting song like this to balance out all the heartbreak. Once again, Bob Dylan has proven that he is the absolute best at whatever he attempts. Once again he's turned out a record that once listened to, becomes a part of you. It seems he's done that a lot, is still doing it.
A Couple of Bob Dylan's Best.......2006-06-02
I read somewhere that "Another Side was recorded in one night while Dylan and crew were drinking cheap wine. I don't know if that's true, but I have to admit sometimes on this record Dylan does sound like he'd been drinking a bit, especially during "All I Really Want to Do" and Dylan's piano playing on the record does remind me a bit of Honky Tonk, the sort of thing you might find in an old western salon. Still, it's a great album that showcase's not only Dylan's piano playing, but his humor as well, which you can see in "Motorpsyho Nitemare." And if you've got a free seven minutes or so, you should give them up and give a good listen to "Chimes of Freedom" a song that's like so many of Dylan's songs, as relevant now as it was back then.
And also, still very relevant is Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks." I must have worn out a dozen copies of the record before I got the CD and I've gone through a couple of those. "Blood On the Tracks" simply never gets old. It's as fresh now as the day Bob Dylan recorded it. It sends chills up my spine every time I hear it and I can't hear it enough. I play it in the car, at home, have it on my iPod and on my iBook. This is the kind of record that sets the standards for all the rest. It's on the top of the heap, rivaled only by Dylan's own "Highway 61 Revisited", "Blonde on Blonde," the Rolling Stones powerful bootleg "LiveR Than You'll Ever Be and the Beatles' two wonderful records, "The White Album" and "Abbey Road." That's a pretty powerful group of records. You should own them all, "Blood On the Tracks" especially.

Album Description
The Side Effects of Dying, the debut CD from the singer/songwriter duo Reynolds Robinson, offers a very tongue-in-cheek look at Pam Reynolds' benchmark clinical death experience case that continues to rattle the foundations of science worldwide.
Since 1991, the name of Atlanta-based Pam Reynolds has been synonymous with consciousness research. Television, print media and radio, both here and abroad, have detailed Pam Reynolds and her groundbreaking brain-aneurysm case. Before her clinical death experience, Pam was a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, orchestrator and songwriter.
On The Side Effects of Dying, Pam has partnered with critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Rob Robinson. A Mississippi native now based in Nashville, Rob wrote and produced three CDs with his jazz/rock band, Fearless Freap, and later formed the group Whirlybird, which released a CD that charted at college radio and Modern A/C. Pam and Rob began writing together in 2003.
The Side Effects of Dying was mixed by Rodney Mills (Atlanta Rhythm Section, Sheryl Crow) and takes the listener on a journey to the edge of consciousness and back again. Among its many highlights are the first track, "If I Live Through This," a humorous, cautionary tale about why you should never pick up women at the state fair; "Young Avenue" welcomes you to your independence with reckless abandon; "The Crying Fields" is an introspective look at the search for forgiveness; and "What Are We Waiting For?" challenges every fear that ever held you back. Two of the songs on the CD, "Coming Back to Life" and the title track, focus on Pam's near-death experience.

Heart Music.......2005-11-04
What can I say about this music? I'll not pretend to be objective. I'm a Near Death Experiencer and I find my emotions and memories being taken in some colossal hand and squeezed; sometimes tearfully, sometimes wistfully and sometimes with humour. I love the immersion that only music can engender, being at once dispersed into the field of melodic imagination and simultaneously present, riveted to the words themselves, startling into recognition that which is simply *there*. It's sung with a curiously intimate inflection that is usually associated with conversation. LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Entertaining, pure solid sound.......2005-11-02
I like this sound and I have to listen to it when I come in from the office. Even though I'm in the City, I'm transposed to the country roads with the top down and the sound turned up as high as it can go. Ah, what fun. The Side Effects Of Dying with Reynolds/Robinson is a definite for my Christmas lists. And it was inspired by a true story. What a story!
