I wasn't expecting to have 4 discs for this price, and the music is a quality selection of film music, giving a good scope of the genre, and a very listenable transfer.

This collection is bound to capture your heart and evoke a tin ear on successive tracks. I found much to like and some duds - easy to skip over.

For the price, this CD is a great bargain. The musical selections, as you might expect, are mixed in quality ranging from extraordinary to so so, the balance being worthwhile and interesting. Sonically the CD is excellent.

I have been listening to great scores for many years and this collection is truly inspirational in so far as the choice of different scores takes you on a journey of listening pleasure matched by only a few collections.The price is incredibly reasonable for hours of listening pleasure. Don't pass this one up

From the album's volcanic cover art, one might not know what to expect here, and at first, I wondered if the artwork was the best choice for representing the acoustic landscape to be discovered within. Much more autumnal than tropical (not tropical at all, really, at least to my ears), this is the perfect soundtrack as summer settles into fall. However, Bobby Reid's sax certainly spills at time like hot lava on its way to the sea, sparked by other guests onboard, and some songs do surge at times with a wonderful, earthy energy and raw power. Yet, it all eventually finds its own level in a tuneful pool of bliss. This is melody with a mission, and with the oars in these skillful hands, this musical river is an enjoyable ride from start to finish.

Some of you might recall Paul Reisler's work with previous incarnations of the band "Trapezoid." Trapezoid delivered several harvests that easily fit-in with the early Windham Hill / Narada genre of "adult contemporary," "living room music," "folk-jazz," "folk fusion," or "American acoustic." Whatever you call it, this album continues in that same vein, with ever-interesting composition, masterful arrangement, excellent playing, and well-balanced production. Mainly an instrumental outing, the one vocal track, "Peace of Wild Things," featuring Leslie Tucker, is a quiet, sentimental gem. I've had that track on repeat in my car for a couple of days now.

This album truly deserves a much wider audience than what I suspect it's currently getting. Fans of Trapezoid, Paul Winter, Daryl Anger & Mike Marshall, Shadowfax, Barbara Higbie, Ira Stein & Russel Walder, or Tingstad & Rumbel, can order with confidence!

3 out of 5 stars Intelligent instrumental music.......2003-02-28

Plainly said, this is a good CD. It works as both pleasant background music and as interesting listening for a music enthusiast. Not astounding music, not entirely unique, but not boring either. Sadly, because of the label on which this record was released, it often gets lumped with all that new age [stuff]. The difficulty, of course, is in trying to classify instrumental music that is neither jazz, nor orchestral, and not sprinkled with fairy dust. If you're looking for smooth, non-offensive, intelligent music without sinking to a Kenny G. sort of level, then Reisler and Read are your men. Bobby Read was the guitarist in the original Bruce Hornsby band, and his playing here is as good as on any of those Hornsby records. The tracks with violin accompaniment are a little reminiscent of a Canadian band from the 1970's called Conventum. Unfortunately, Conventum's records are not currently available on CD. For more music like this try a Canadian music label called Actuellecd.com. Overall, this CD is worth the price of purchase.
