Album Description
The soundtrack to the film version of Sid & Marty Kroffts gigantic children's TV hit HR Pufnstuf, the program that introduced psychedelia into the diet of English and American children in the late 60's early 70's. The soundtrack, written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel (Barbarella, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley) is a remarkable amalgam of bubblegum, psychedelic instrumentation and joyful knockabout songs including 'Zap The World', and the fine cass solo number 'Different' which is exclusive to this record. Punfstuf is full of great, clever, funny songs sung by Jack Wild, Cass Elliot, Witchiepoo and the cast. El. 2006.

For those of my generation who might be seeking a blast from the past, warm and fuzzy childhood nostolgia trip, don't bother!!! If it were possible to give this cd no stars, I would. There is only one song with Cass Elliot, that is marginal at best!! Save Your money for the DVD of the original series! Now I can see why I never saw this film, when it came out!!
Original soundtrack altered.......2006-06-08
I was happy to recently discover that the soundtrack of the 1970 film "Pufnstuf" had been released on CD. I was a huge fan of the show as a kid, and this was the first soundtrack LP I ever bought. Purchasing the CD allowed me to relive a bit of my childhood, without the pops and clicks from the scratches on my old vinyl album.
But I'm a bit puzzled by the fact that this CD release has altered tracks. Most of the tracks include passages where a bar or two of the music has been looped, adding a few seconds of repeated music for no apparent reason. The result is jarring for anyone that is already familiar with the music, and seems quite unnecessary. I've written to El Records to ask why this was done. Legal reasons?
AN ABSOLUTE "MUST" FOR FANS OF 70's TV, KROFFT, CASS, KITSCH AND TERRIFIC MUSIC!.......2006-03-27
You don't have to be a fan of the TV show "H.R. Pufnstuf" to appreciate this gem of an album, though fans of the series will enjoy it. It does not offer the catchy, peppy little ditties you heard on the TV show, but instead a rich, large, very 70's sound.
It's almost as if you're hearing the 70's careers of composer Charles Fox and lyricist Norman Gimbel in one sitting, because even though they had not yet written all of their signature theme yet, the styles and phrasing were already there in "Pufnstuf."
Just a few examples: the trumpet work in "Zap the World" is reminiscent of WONDER WOMAN; the lilting back-and-forth tone of "A Friend in You" is very much like THE LOVE BOAT; "Living Island" suggests LOVE AMERICAN STYLE; and the middle part of "If I Could" has elements of LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY.
The sound quality is very good, since the original vinyl album sounded pretty powerful to begin with, but I have a quibble with the producers of the CD because they decided to lengthen some of the tracks by repeating phrases. This is the case in "Living Island," "Witchiepoo's Lament," "Angel Raid," "How Lucky I Am," and "Charge." I'm sure their intentions were good, but it wasn't really necessary. However, the album is so good I gave it five stars for the being on CD at all.

A Fantastic Change of Pace.......2007-06-20
I was looking for a nice gift to send a friend when the song "Peach Window" started playing on my computer. The music is a quirky mix of pop and rock and it was like a breath of fresh air. I realized that it would be the perfect gift. I thorougly enjoy the entire album, and I can easily recommend it to family and friends.

This is one of the greatest unheralded albums ever released.
Brilliantly arranged and produced by the legendary Jeff Lynne and fabulous natural vocals from Julianna Raye this album still ranks as one of my favourite albums of all time.
Standouts include Limbo,Something Peculiar and Tell Me I'm Alright. If you like great pop music you'll love this.
They need to remaster and release it with bonus tracks as Jeff Lynne recorded 16 tracks in all with Julianna Raye.
We can only hope.
Extremely Disappointed!.......2004-07-05
I bought this CD after loving Julianna Raye's song from the movie "Open Range". I was extremely disappointed, however, with the amateurish performance on this CD. I couldn't find a single track that I wanted to listen to all the way through.

Terrific album full of great melodic pop songs masterfully arranged and produced by the genius that is Jeff Lynne.
Julianna's voice is superb, backed up by a bunch of top notch musicians including Jeff Lynne plays everything as usual, Richard Tandy(ELO keyboardist),
Mike Campbell(A Heartbreaker),Jim Horn
If you can pick up a second hand copy of this album do so as it has been unavailable for some time.
You won't be disappointed.

I was turned on to this disc from Julianna's song on the Open Range soundtrack (fantastic!) and had to find out more. After a listen to this CD I was hooked. One of the most talented singer / songwriters I have ever heard. Produced by the just as talented Ethan Johns! What a combination. I hope they do more together.

There is not a bad track on this CD, as far as I'm concerned. It's melodic, eclectic, evocative, and funny, too. Also a bit addictive. Such a rare combination you wonder why you don't get it pressed on you by all your friends. Maybe people didn't know where to file it, because it feels as much jazz as pop. In case that was the problem, I'm writing this review: buy it,--if you like music, you won't regret it.

GREAT! prog rock with a circus influence!.......2004-10-21
This and their other 6 or 7 cds are truly great. If you like quirky, short ,instrumental music that is composed with some european folk, theater and circus elements in it, than this is for you. You get original compositions and an array of 'weird' instruments mixed up with 'traditional' rock instruments. The melodies are not easy to forget once you listen to them a couple of times, yet there is always a new discovery with the each listen.
