They are gone but not forgotten.. I'm a fan of the band and really like their sound and delivery.. A lot of great songs here..well recorded and exciting to listen to..Industrial sometimes gives the impression of tecno made up loops and stuff. Thats not the case here.. This is a real band and they have a lot to offer..recommended CD...Chris

This cd, for me, defines industrial.

Industrial is NOT another term for nu-metal, and it does NOT have to sound like NIN. Econoline Crush is a very good example of being industrial without sounding overly angry or Reznor like.

The band Econoline Crush are sadly no more now, but this record lives as testament that listenable and publically acceptable industrial rock, although rare, does indeed exist. It escapes me as to why this band wasn't more popular out of its native Canada.

PS: To get the full benefit of this cd, you will have to have a really good stereo, and listen to it a few times over. The songs are very deeply layered, and it will surprise you just how much new stuff you will hear each time you listen to the same track.

I had forgotten about this band. I had really liked the couple of songs from this album that were on the radio, but they didn't seem to get much momentum and just disappeared. It's a real shame, now that I get to hear how good this CD is. It's got great energy, and a lot of good songs. They show influences of 80s bands like U2, Simple Minds, and The Cult, but with a heavier 90s alternative edge. Considering that this can be picked up new for as little as a penny, there's no excuse not to own this.

If you like heavy industrial and/or alternative rock, this CD is a must. Great tracks are "Surefire", "Home" and "Sparkle and Shine". Perfect for the people who like Pitchshifter, Gravity Kills and Korn.

Another great industrial album for Econoline Crush fans is "Empty" by God Lives Underwater.

This is not a rock-out-with-your-c*ck-out cd. If you go into it for that, you will be let down. I would say that this is a good disc for fans of groups like Depeche Mode and Gravity Kills. Maybe KMFDM fans would like it.

Brand New History is a multidimensional outing that melds modern, classic, and alternative rock elements into a 12-song tour de force that at times is reminiscent of INXS, BTO, Nine Inch Nails, and the Cult (NIN's Chris Vrenna and the Cult's Billy Duffy guest here). Though Brand New History's musical salutes are palpable, Trevor Hurst delivers his vocals with a distinctive, soulful panache and there's a cohesiveness and originality to the band's soaring compositions, most notably the bold midtempo rocker "Make It Right." The vibrant, danceable "Flamethrower" contrasts nicely with the darkly aggressive "Trash" and, while the spooky syncopation of "By the Riverside" and lilting, Sugar Ray-ish "May I Go" are far from original, there's no denying their power. Programming, percussion, and the production savvy of Bob Rock (Metallica, the Cult) and John Travis (Kid Rock) add to the appeal of this excellent chapter in Econoline Crush's history book. --Katherine Turman

I've read the reviews some others left of this CD, saying that EC has done better - I disagree. I think this CD is in its own way, different but equally as good as their previous 2. Econoline Crush puts out a sound that no other band can claim to have -- their sound is truly unique, and their lyrics flow very well in most songs.

The two tracks that became moderately well-known radio singles, "You Don't Know What It's Like" and "Make It Right" were prodced by a different person than the rest of the CD and thus have a profoundly different sound - while these two tracks are good, they are more tailored towards marketing the band in a more mainstream way, so the songs, while original, are not as satisfying to me as the rest of this CD. Tracks like "Flamethrower" and particularly "Tomorrow Starts Today" have such fantastic medlys of sound and rhythm coupled with smooth lyrics that I personally can't help but sing along to make this one of my absolute favorite CDs.

I would definitely reccommend this album to anyone who likes industrial metal or techno-rock, but who is tired of the same repeated bland sounds over and over and song swith no meaning. EC has a sound that's all their own and despite what others have said, I think this CD reflects that.

On this cd, their sound contains pieces from many different elements, unfortuneatly mastering none.

This release is even weaker than their previous album as they forego rocking out completely. With out a really stand out track that truely rocks, this release is very easily forgettable.

Sadly, this band tries to copy several influences without trying to be creative on their own. Nothing orginial can be heard on this cd.

Nothing to hear here, move along.

...As for the music, well, I've heard better from Econoline Crush. Both "Afflication" and "Devil You Know" have greater consistancy from song to song. That's not to say that "Brand New History" is horrible - it has some good songs (notably "You Don't Know What It's Like", "Sinking" and "May I Go") - it just has some really forgettable numbers. If you're a fan, it's worth your time and money to buy "Brand New History". If you're intrigued by the band but are not familiar with them, try their other albums first.

I purchased this CD 'sound unseen', as the previous discs [notably Devil You Know and Affliction] were original, powerful ranges of sound which I kept spinning for days on end.
I was incredibly disappointed with Brand New History. EC has switched from industrial to pop-rock; however, the songs are not, taken by themselves, bad. One might expect to hear this CD churned out by any of the top 10 artists on the rock charts - which is the entire problem. Having come to expect a higher standard from Econoline Crush, I ended up with nothing but a Creed clone CD.
Better luck next time.

This is a great cd! They blend almost all kinds of music into one great CD. I got it yesterday and I have not stopped playing it.

This Cd has the crunch,and presence.. The Band is quite interesting and I enjoy almost all the tracks.. Real kick ass stuff.. If you like industrial rock this is a must have. Great tunes and very well recorded..Chris

I am a self-confessed EC freak. So I guess you have to take my 5 stars with a pinch of salt. But really this is a great industrial cd for those of us who don't really take well to the Reznor's or Manson's of this world. Even "hardcore industrials" should be impressed.

The whole cd from start to finish can best be described as "ambient". There's a certain Frontline Assembly quality to this album, and with good reason too because Rhys Fulber plays keys and produces it.

Nowhere Now is the single best piece of industrial rock that has ever graced this earth. Both lyrically and musically. End of story. Emotional Stain is the only song I have heard so far that fits the category "industrial blues"...I personally think a whole
cd of Emotional Stain-like songs would be considered revolutionary. Sycophant is a great high-energy rocker that'll be sure to get you up and headbanging. The rest of the songs are brilliant also but I don't want to take up too much space!

This cd, and their next cd The Devil You Know, are essential listening for any self-respecting industrial officionado.

5 out of 5 stars Their Most Cohesive Release.......2001-06-25

If you're looking for the best in industrial music, from the heart, without any homicidal, psychotic, or sadomasochistic tendencies attached, this is a fine example of it. The title of the disc describes its theme perfectly. The production is assisted by Rhys Fulber of Delerium fame and fits Trevor's voice, lyrics, and music like a glove. The mastering is an early Bob Ludwig effort.

To "A music fan from Connecticut": this album has absolutely nothing to do with the Nick Nolte film of the same name. You're looking for the soundtrack to that film, not this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Econoline Crush's most solid album.......2001-02-16

Unlike most reviewers on Amazon, I was familiar with Econoline Crush before I bought Affliction. Reasons for this are:

1. Econoline Crush is a band from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I'm also from the Vancouver area.

2. Econoline Crush had just released Affliction, and the singles "Nowhere Now" and especially "Wicked" were gettings tons of radio play on rock radio stations across Canada. Most American radio stations ignore Canadian rock bands unless they have amazing commercial success like the Barenaked Ladies or Bryan Adams. So if you're American, there's a good chance you've never been exposed to Econoline Crush. Here in Canada? They're quite big, and teenaged girls are in love with their lead singer, Trevor Hurst.

3. I was a fan of another Canadian band called The Tea Party, and Econoline Crush opened up for the Tea Party numerous times. I was able to see them live before I bought affliction.

So, now you're probably asking, "What does the album sound like? Is it any good? Is it a rip off of other albums?" Here's my opinion, with a few facts pulled in:

Econoline Crush were extremely influenced by rock and industrial bands. No, not industrial bands like NIN, but bands like Skinny Puppy and Frontline Assembly who were also from Vancouver. Rhys Fulber, who was a member of Frontline Assembly up until the late 90's, produced Econoline Crush's first album "Purge", but also played keyboards on Affliction, and toured with Econoline Crush. If you're lucky enough, you'll find a few Econoline Crush songs remixed by Rhys Fulber (Nowhere Now comes to mind). That's one reason why Econoline Crush have that industrial edge to them.

Affliction was recorded when all of the original Econoline Crush members were present. This is why I call it their most solid album. But not only that, but every song is strong, energetic and emotional.

Nowhere Now kicks off the album into an energetic frenzy. Imagine this song live in concert with the crowd pumping up and down. Blunt begins with a quick punch of a guitar riff, then slows down to a quiet rumble... until the chorus builds, and the chanting of "Nothing! Nothing! Nothing!" makes you just want to blast the song from your stereo! Wicked was the most popular radio single off of this album - starting out with industrial-type samples of drums, the fast paced chorus and the taunting, "you don't feel, you don't care, you're so wicked" in the chorus. Emotional Stain is a nice break in the album, as it lets go from that energetic frenzy and treats you with a blues rock song. Close is a dark, mellow song, with echoed vocals and sorrowful passion. Close was the other single off of Affliction that got adequate radio play in Canada in 1995. Blood In The River is about a dream that lead singer Trevor Hurst had, where he saw bodies in a river. This song was very popular in concert, where the crowd was singing along to the chorus of, "whoa... save my soul, save.. my.. soul..." Cruel World is more of a raw industrial-rock song, a song that was actually released on their first EP, "Purge", but on Affliction, the sounds are more full. Lost and Slug are some of my least favourite on the album because they become a bit like an angry repetitive rock song. Sycophant is one of the catchiest songs on the album, with guitar riffs that want you to bop your head in time to it. It's an excellent song to hear extremely loud! Affliction ends the album a bit more mellow and confused, almost like a reflection and a conclusion to an album of extreme intensity and emotion.

All in all, I'm surprised this album was never introduced to the American market, however, I'm glad it was one of the top albums in Canada during 1995 and 1996. Still to this day you'll hear those songs in Canada, and Econoline Crush are one of the bigger rock bands around that *aren't* the Barenaked Ladies. Don't expect any sissy music to come out of this band!

And to end my review, this is *not* the soundtrack to the 1997 movie "Affliction", so if that's what you're looking for, Econoline Crush's album "Affliction" isn't it! But for all those rock fans who enjoy such bands as NIN, Stabbing Westward, Frontline Assembly, Marilyn Manson, Tool, Incubus, A Perfect Circle, Kittie, Deftones, Korn and the likes... this album's for you!

      Econoline Crush as usual is coming at you with a heavy duty, knock you into a coma, hard rock blitz, that will surely blind the weak. The music is so invigorating. So... How should I say this? Amazing. Songs like Surefire will knock you into last week, and the guitar riffs are always present.
