About the Artist
So I bought this Gibson guitar about five years ago, hoping that it would serve as release from the difficult academic course of graduate school. At the time, I wasn't really a complete novice, because I had played some guitar as a kid and there was some residual musical theory in my head and string skills in my fingers. Strummed for a little while, playing the three and a half songs I knew over and over again to no one sitting in my living room. Said to myself, "I'd be happy if I could only write one damn song." So long as the song wasn't a bitter tune about lost love or a pathetic one about finding it. Here I am now, some years later, and I've got about twenty songs. Some bitter, some pathetic, but mostly a fair representation of my musical influences, which include the likes of James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet, and the ever-famous Harry Chapin (penned "Cats in the Cradle). My Mom tells me that I'm one of the best musicians she's ever heard and there was a guy who heard me play at a Barnes & Noble feature gig one night who told me that he liked my stuff. This is cool, because the day job entails being away from my apartment ninety or so hours a week, working with children who insist on sticking bugs in their ears, getting Chicken Pox, and, at times, dying unexpectedly. It's nice to come home and play. I am originally from North Miami Beach, Florida (since renamed Aventura) and spent my formidable sex, drugs, and wasting-time years at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. After spending a year working at in a chemistry lab that would have made me rich if I stayed on (sold the 50-cent stock options for $70 each some time ago), I took a trip to Tampa, Florida for four years where I basked in the glory of medical school and somehow didn't miss a beat with my good times. Now, I've landed up here in the Arlington / D.C area and on those nights I don't sleep in a hospital room smaller than your walk-in closet, I am home watching the Learning Channel, playing guitar, and eating handfuls of Honeynut Cheerios. Enjoy the disc and invite me over. It'll be a good show. BFine
