About the Artist
Since its creation, Inca Son, with its traditional music and dance of the Andes Mountains, has flourished in America and has become internationally renown.
In 1991, INCA SON contributed to the Score of the PBS Series, "Columbus and the Age of Discovery." In 1992, INCA SON launched the "Year of the World Indigenous People" at the United Nations in New York and was recognized as being the best ethnic-music group. In 1993 and 1995, the Boston Music Awards nominated the group for its outstanding accomplishments. In 1994, INCA SON provided the official entertainment for the World Cup Soccer events and performed at the National Governors' Conference attended by President Bill Clinton. In 1995, the National Press Advisors of Peru (ANAP) bestowed the honary title of "Cultural Ambassador" to the director of the group, Cesar Villalobos. That year, the group received recognition by the Congress of Peru and was awarded the highly coveted prize, "El Sol del Oro" by ANAP. In 1996, INCA SON was part of the Official Entertainment for the Olympics in Atlanta, GA. INCA SON also received the "Certificate of Distinction" for its outstanding performance at the "Festival Mondial de Folklore, Drummondville," in Quebec, Canada that year. In 1997, INCA SON was awarded the Boston Phoenix Best Music Poll Award for "Best World Music Group" and was chosen to represent Peru in the Second International Folk Arts Festival of the CIS Peoples in Moscow, Russia, for the 850th Anniverary of Moscow. In 1998, INCA SON was selected to perform as the main attraction in "Ancestor of the Incas," the world's largest Peruvian Exhibition, in Memphis, TN. Additionally that year, INCA SON was selected as official entertainment for the National Folk Festival in Dayton, OH. In 1999, INCA SON received the prestigious Boston Music Award for "Best World Music Act," and was again nominated by the Boston Phoenix Best Music Poll Award for "Best World Music Group."
For the last ten years, INCA SON has been elected "The Best Andean Band of New England" by the Harvard Square Business Association. INCA SON has also received an acknowledgement and congratulations from the President of Peru, Alberto Fujimori.
