Tom Paxton is often thought of as a topical songwriter, but his best- known songs are about such timeless themes as heartbreak ("The Last Thing on My Mind"), lost friends ("Ramblin' Boy"), and drinking ("Bottle of Wine"). This last tune is the only old one on Wearing the Time, but it sets the tone for a project that emphasizes the universal qualities in Paxton's music. A few numbers are too sleepy and sensitive for their own good, but the bulk of the collection is imbued with the gentle melodicism and understated description that have made the singer a folk-music legend. --Geoffrey Himes

Spectacular Paxton.......2000-06-03
Tom Paxton is a great musician and poet. The songs in this album are among his most beautiful and lyrical. He's been through a full life and you can hear it in his songs. This CD isn't as political or hilarious as some of his others but the songs have a wide musical and emotional range. It's not just Tom and his guitar this time. The texture is rich and rhythmic and for an added bonus, the wonderful Iris DeMent sings back up! A FABULOUS CD. He's a real troubadour. I never get sick of this CD.The songs are amazing.

Pure Paxton at his best.......1999-04-12
I've heard Tom Paxton live about 15 times. This cd is close to a live concert. His voice is uncluttered and strong. This CD has the touching, loving songs and the hardbiting social comment which Tom thrives on. His politics is a little far left but he is usually right on target. If you've never heard of him, you'll think, "Where has this guy been."
