Album Description
Hayley Westenra's new album Odyssey was always going to be a different proposition to Pure, the record-breaking 2003 collection which marked her international debut. A lot has happened to the young New Zealander over the past two or three years--and those changes are clearly reflected by a record which encapsulates her growth from a budding teenage prodigy into a mature young woman.
Now, at 18, Hayley is ready to show the world how much she has grown up, both as an artist and as an individual. Fans of Pure will be pleasantly surprised by her new album. Her wonderful voice retains its crystal-clear purity, but Westenra's singing is now richer and more rounded than before. Touring the world and singing in some of its greatest concert venues, such as the Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, and Carnegie Hall, has worked wonders for her confidence. Suitably emboldened, she has embraced an even wider range of musical styles including classical, hymns, folk and pop.
"I was happy with Pure at the time, but I've moved on so much," says Hayley. "It's really exciting to have something new out there for people to listen to. I wanted to make a record that represented me as a person. And I think I've improved as a vocalist."
Variety is certainly one of the keywords with Hayley's new album. When she first entered a recording studio in New Zealand as a 12-year-old, Westenra restricted herself to classical pieces and show tunes. Now, in addition to impressive takes on classical works, Hayley uses her new album to perform an inspired cover of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" and has arranged and written much of the material. "I like to push myself, and I'm now confident enough to try different things. I have been much more involved behind the scenes with this album--I wanted to put my individual stamp on each song."
With her career stretching out promisingly before her, Hayley is also keen to continue experimenting. She is still primarily a classical crossover artist but she also wants to keep broadening those musical horizons. Three years after her international debut CD, Hayley Westenra is still pure: she exudes pure quality and she remains pure class--but her musical journey continues with her new album Odyssey.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful melodies.......2007-06-08
This is a wonderful CD with beautiful melodies. Hayley Westenra has a very pure voice and sings right on key. The melodies are very relaxing and the musical settings are well arranged.
Hayley Westenra - Odyssey.......2007-06-08
Pure, crystalline, angelic voice. Gorgeously produced. "Prayer" is stunning. "Both Sides Now" wonderful. The rest is good but not her best song selection. When I first heard this girl on the "Celtic Woman" tour I was totally blown away. None of her CDs will disappoint!
Very soothing.......2007-05-14
Hayley Westenra's Odyssey is a very beautiful CD. If you switch on your walkman and listen to the CD's tracks non-stop, you'll soon feel like you're flying in Heaven. It's very soothing and heavenly. It calms you down, without causing you to feel lonely or sad because you're listening to it in solitary, like other vocal or classical songs do sometimes.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested. Quanta Qualia and Ave Maria are my most favourite tracks. Quanta Qualia is pure magic! I really feel as if I'm flying in Heaven when I listen to it.
very good pop singer voice.......2007-05-13
the selections were tasteful and varied. the singer has a very good pop singer voice. i would have liked some voice variation between songs. all were sung in exactly the same style. good singing but without tonal variation the disk tends to be bland. i hope that as she gets more exposure she will vary her voice to make the songs stand out individually instead of letting them blend into one song on the disc. i would rate this 5 stars except for that major fault.
Voice & level head deserve high marks .......2007-04-20
Not only has Hayley Westenra's voice remained "pure", but her good sense and sensibilty has stayed intact when so many similar young performers have gone over the deep end with extreme behavior and disreputable remarks. On this CD Miss Westernra covers a number of songs in her own special style, such as excellent versions of "Prayer", "May It Be" and "Both Sides Now". I hope to hear her renditions of more such tunes, old and new. I would like to hear her sing songs like "Yesterday", "I Still Believe in Love" and All I Know. She has a way with her soaring vocals that never lets the listener down.

If the comics on Saturday Night Live ever wanted to spoof the current line of mascara-painted '80s revivalists such as the Killers and Bravery, it's unlikely their efforts would be nearly as successful as She Wants Revenge. It's not that the Los Angeles duo made up of party DJ Adam Bravin and former De La Soul copycat Justin Warfield means for its self-titled debut to be funny. But the group's one-note impression of dark new wave acts like Joy Division, The Cure and Bauhaus is just so blatant--from the ominous bass-lines and fawning band name (Peter Hook's New Order side project was called Revenge) to song titles such as "Tear You Apart" (Ian Curtis fans would be right to notice the similarities to their beloved "Love Will Tear Us Apart") and Goth 101 lyrics ("Take your hand, and smack me in the mouth, my love") -- it's hard not to laugh. --Aidin Vaziri
Album Description
Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin (aka DJ Adam 12) met as kids in the San Fernando Valley in 1986. Growing up listening to everything from Run DMC and Public Enemy to The Cure, Prince and Depeche Mode, they would each develop as musicians, djs and producers, pursuing critically acclaimed careers, each in their own right. They assembled a live band to accompany them, and after only 3 mind-blowing hometown shows, set out on two legs of the North American Bloc Party tour. Since then they have played in the UK, and have begun to amass a sizeable local following in Los Angeles, opening for such acts as The Raveonettes, Moving Units, The Kills, Bloc Party, and OK Go.

Not All Bad.......2007-07-30
Let's just say that when I went to a Depeche Mode concert, She Wants Revenge was the warmup. I really loved the first song they've done, which is 'These Things' and well, you can say I purchased their album months later.
First off, I am tired of hearing it's a ripoff of other bands before, but to be honest, every band latches off of another band and She Wants Revenge is no exception. Actually, I'm not sure waht it was they were trying to strive for in this album, and everything does get repetitive after a while, especially when the lead singer has an odd nasal voice. They try too hard on several songs and fall flat on a few others, and the only songs worthwile are 'These Things' and 'Out of Control' and only enjoyable for the first few times before they lose their muster, and you're reduced in looking for something else to occupy your listening time.
Granted, She Wants Revenge isn't bad, just terribly average.
Excellent Gothic Music.......2007-07-25
I know I'm a year late but I thought this awesome style of Gothic Rock was not around anymore. I happened to stumble on this group by mistake. All I have to say is that this is AN EXCELLENT ALBUM. I love the driving baselines of "Red Flag and Long Nights", and "Someone Must get Hurt". My favorite tracks are "Red Flag and Long Nights", "Out of Control", "Sister" and "Tear You Apart". Heck, the entire album is good.
In all this group captured real gothic rock the way it used to be and SHOULD BE. Marylin Manson is NOT gothic rock. Rob Zombie IS NOT gothic rock. She wants Revenge is gothic rock in the 4AD style and these guys get an A+ for their music.
Finally, this is refreshing dark music from the crappy Brittney Spears, Outkast, Justin Timberlake, and Beyonce baloney I have to put up on every stinking Top-40 station. A+ to She Wants Revenge. I hope they can put another album out.
I love this album.......2007-06-27
This album has all kinds of evil, hate-filled lyrics, but the music is just so darn catchy! This band just kept growing on me until I had to run out and buy the album. If you like Interpol, Editors, or that style, this is for you.
STOP bickering.......2007-06-26
It's just as annoying as the Muse vs. Radiohead fan-clash.
Stop and shut up. You don't need to come rushing to a SWR CD to write bad reviews just because someone said it was better than your favorite band. If you disagree, disagree and that's enough.
I like SWR a LOT. I think all of the bands that "sound similar" are good, it's just that SWR is exactly the style of that type of music that I like.
They have a good sound, I like it. Unfortunately, all of their songs have pretty much the same sound- but AGAIN- I still like it.
But enough of the 'She wants revenge copied ____ because ___.'.
No one gives a hoot!
Lots of bands sound like other bands. And though there are some similarities, there are some HUGE differences.
Example being Radiohead vs. Muse.. they had like one similar song and have some similarities with the voice, but their styles of music are TOTALLY different.
C'mon. Leave SWR alone. It's like two older guys who like writing and music and finally decided to make a band. They're not the best, they're not the worst. It's a matter of opinion. You like it or you don't.. just like any other band.
But one thing you can't deny is the fact that the lyrics in She Wants Revenge music are very, very good. There's always an interesting story or something. That's the main part. The music accompanies it well. It's incredibly catchy at times.
Well, their new album is coming out this fall. Hopefully it will be better.
GREAT ALUBM!!!! one of my top 5.......2007-06-21
what can I say, if you like Alt rock/indie. You have to buy this CD!!!! This is one of those rare albums that doesn't have a bad track on it. You can put the CD in and let the whole thing play with out having to skip crappy songs. these guys have a great sound and i cant wait to hear their new album! plus i met these guys in Tokyo last year, they are down to earth and really cool.

Not content with the simplistic "crossover" formula, superstar tenor Andrea Bocelli has been pursuing alternative paths since he emerged as a vocal phenomenon in the mid-1990s: operatic classics and contemporary popular song. The singer's last few albums have showcased his love for the former (including homages to his beloved Verdi: the Requiem and Verdi aria collection). But Cieli di Toscana ("Tuscan Skies") marks a triumphant return to the pop idiom last explored on Sogno, offering a highly varied series of the kind of beautifully crafted contemporary melodies that initially won Bocelli acclaim.
The familiar cast of songwriter-collaborators (including Francesco Sartori, responsible for the smash success "Time to Say Goodbye") mixes with new blood; Bocelli himself unveils his songwriting talents on "Il Diavolo e l'Angelo." It's a highly produced affair, but behind all the gloss, Bocelli sings with a newfound, relaxed, even mellow quality. There are intimately touching moments--"L'Incontro," a tribute to his first son featuring Bocelli's own poetry as read by U2's Bono--as well as soaring flights of lyricism (the duet "L'Abitudine" with Italian singer Helena). And on "Mascagni," with its quotes from that composer's operas, Bocelli makes another nod to his classical affinities. But whatever the style, Bocelli is a singer who knows how to go straight to his listeners' hearts. --Sarah Chin
Album Description
Exclusive UK version of Bocelli's third pop release includes the exclusive bonus track 'Tornera La Neve' and CD-ROM. The album also features 'L'Incontro' a duet with Gerard Depardieu. David Foster co-composes some of the tracks on this album as well. 2001.

Just what it says. See my other Andrea Bocelli reviews to get the idea I really like this guy.
Emotional therapy!.......2007-05-14
"He is all heart; there's no pretense. You can feel it." No kidding. These were my mom's last comments about Bocelli two months before she left earthly existence.
This album helped me process a lot of emotional residue affiliated with the strain of difficult dynamics between my mom and myself.
Don't get me wrong. The music isn't sad; it's pure heart and emotion, so it may evoke emotions. The last cut, "L'Ultimo Re" is gorgeous with the way his voice soars!
E.A. Davis, author: Waiting for Wings: Accompanying a Parent to the Edge of Life
Great music!.......2006-12-18
I bought the album before listening to any of the songs, because i'm a Bocelli fan. I was not disappointed. Wonderful melodies, beautiful voice. My personal favourites are Melodramma, Chiara and Resta Qui, but this is a great cd overall.
Cieli di Toscana.......2006-08-25
There is no other voice quite like Andrea's voice. I keep listening to this CD over and over as some of the songs just touch my heart, both with his voice and the written arrangements. One of my very favorites from Andrea. He has the same qualities to his voice with popular songs as he does with opera. When following the English translations in the CD case, the message of each song becomes very clear through the inflections and tonal quality of his voice.
LOVE IT!!!!.......2006-08-25

Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

Timeless Disney Music.......2007-05-07
Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.
Disney songs are the best.......2006-03-18
I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.
Great Disney Music.......2006-02-21
I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!
Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2.......2005-09-11
This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

I simply love it. Cyndi Lauper rocks!!.......2007-05-27
this is her best album in my opinion.
An essential.......2007-05-21
One of the greatest female artist albums of all time, in the pop/rock genre. I have never tired of listening occasionally. (The haunting "Time After Time" is one of my favorite tunes of all time).
Nicely remastered and there are 3 bonus tracks of live performances of songs that are on the original album playlist: "Money Changes Everything", "She Bop", and "All Through The Night". I prefer the studio versions, but they are on there too. If you are not familiar with this album, I'll just say that there's something there for everyone. Not much "filler" here.
The original recording quality was exceptionally strong in my opinion, and I'm not quite sure if this reissue is of that level. But it seems to be quite good and this is certainly a 5 star product.
Recommended.
Cyndi Just Wants To Have Fun On Her Debut Album.......2007-04-29
This is Cyndi Lauper's debut album, released in December, 1983. This album catapulted Cyndi into stardom with such hits as "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "She Bop" and "Time After Time". As of 2002 & counting, it has sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. The album peaked at #4 on the U.S. Billboard pop albums chart. With a series of quirky videos, Cyndi dominated MTV for several months. Her bizarre fashion, consisting of multiple layers of thrift store clothing and dozens of accessories, influenced fashion for the last half of the 1980s. "She's So Unusual" received mixed reviews on it's release (it's sole Grammy was for Janet Perr's Album Package). In recent years, however, the album has been re-appraised by the music media, and songs like "Time After Time" are considered pop classics. In 2003, the album was ranked number 494 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Highlights include every song, especially the first six. The three live bonus tracks, even make it more special.
P.S. - Better late then never.
Blast from the Past.......2007-03-11
Listening to this cd brought back fun memories.
This cd is one of cyndi's best.
Still Cyndi's best............2007-02-19
I'll never forget the first time I heard "Girls (Just Wanna Have Fun)" It was 1983 and I was just out of Junior High. I thought it was a bit cheezy at first but then it grew on me. Still does, in fact. Then I bought the cassette. When I heard "Money Changes Everything" I was mezmoried. WOW! This album rocks. There were times when listening to the entire album a few times in a row was not unusual. So when it came time that I bought a cd player this was one of the first albums I got. All of the songs on here are classic 1980's. Even her little diddy "He's So Unusual" is great, complete with 1930's style. "Time After Time" still brings a tear to my eye with it's haunting backround and wonderfully sung vocals. This is Cyndi's defeying moment! But my favorite track has to be "She Bop" With it's classic 80's style synth and Bangles influencing chorus this track rocks. Way to go Cyndi. You have created a masterpiece!!

If you think you've heard Handel's "Ombra mai fu" (known as his "Largo") so often, and in so many different arrangements, and sung by so many different voices, that you can no longer be moved or surprised by it, think again. This CD of Handel arias, mostly from his Theodora or the cantata La Lucrezia, ends with "Ombra mai fu," and as sung by Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, it is so tender, so beautiful, so impeccably shaded, that you'll think you're hearing it for the first time. But that's only four of this disc's 67 minutes---a follow-up to Hunt Lieberson's extraordinarily successful CD of Bach cantatas. There's not a dull or disinterested moment to be heard anywhere. As the violated Lucrezia, Hunt Lieberson alternately rages against the man who raped her and turns her grief inward; the former is terrifying in its intensity, the latter makes us almost feel as if we're eavesdropping. The five arias for Irene, Theodora's friend, confidante, and the upholder of Christian beliefs are all magical prayers or statements of faith, and from Hunt Lieberson, they become real, with each word honestly conveyed and colored. The voice itself is unfailingly beautiful---warm, lush, never forced, agile when necessary---and her breath control is stunning. She is backed ideally by Harry Bicket and The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the string soloists in the ensemble---the viola da gamba player, lutenist, etc.---are as gifted as she is. If you want proof that Handel was a great dramatist with a special gift for communicating emotion, all while listening to sublime sounds, this CD is a must. --Robert Levine

A Legendary Singer........2007-03-07
I simply don't have the heart to review Mrs. Lieberson's works.
If we call Ms. Bartoli a 'great' singer, then the description of 'legendary' more aptly depicts Mrs. Lieberson.
If ever a truly good artist lived, Mrs. Lieberson is one such.
The only singer that could be recalled singing in such style is Teresa Berganza; but still, they are different.
This is one of my favourite interpretators of Haendel. Having been 'treated' by those coloraturas of arias of Haendel's period by Ms. Bartoli and others, I find the singing of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson a great relief - at last, this is what Haendel would want it to be. And I equally enjoy the singing of soprano arias by Mrs. Lieberson - the timbre is warmer, but still with all the shimmer - so different from the dark mushy tones of other celebrated 'lyrical soprano' around.
Don't want to say more. Mrs. Lieberson's leaving last year is too heavy a news for me.
Lorraine Hunt Lieberson's Bach: The mind of God revealed!!.......2007-01-06
These deeply felt performances of two of Bach's most moving cantatas show this transcendent singer's combination of emotional honesty and profound musicality, all combined to reveal the very mind of God through divine redemption from suffering. The disc is to be treasured even more in light of the Ms. Lieberson's recent untimely death from cancer. I'm an agnostic, but this music makes me envious of those who can believe. Roy in Pope Valley, California
Glorious singing to treasure for decades.......2006-07-11
By any measure, America's Lorraine Hunt Lieberson is at least the equal of Italy's premier diva, mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, although she does not have the same superstar status. It is difficult to recall past mezzos with clearer enunciation of English text, (as favoured in nine excerpts from Theodora), the richness of voice, displayed in full-throated fortissimo and sharply contrasted pianissimo of utmost delicacy, evokes fondest memories of the tragically doomed Kathleen Ferrier. Masterfully chosen to display every facet of Hunt Lieberson's consumate command of Handel's dauntingly difficult music, the disc's repertoire - recitatives and linkig arias from the operas Theodora and Serse, and the cantana La Lucrezia - is stunning. An unsung mezzo who makes the senses tingle!
Lorraine Hunt-Lieberson (1954-2006), supreme Handelian.......2006-07-06
I have never heard a voice purer of tone, more flexible in phrasing, and so gorgeously produced in a homogeneous column of sound such as this artist in Handel's repertoire. It is very tastefully sung (unlike a certain person whose name begins with R and ends with enaaay Fleming) and so dramatically touching that one could not help but feel that this repertoire finally has found its instrument. And how sad it is to know that this instrument has passed away two days ago. Lorraine Hunt-Lieberson died two days ago in her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico of breast cancer. It is such a huge loss to the opera world, as she is an artist who is still experiencing the prime of her career. The voice is just so beautiful, the tone so pure, that I lament that we can no longer hear any great roles from this artist. She will be missed.
The Stellar Hunt Lieberson.......2006-03-19
Simply put, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson is one of the very best classical singers alive. She combines vocal elegance and purity with an emotional delivery that raises her above the crowd of technically proficient singers who just don't possess her depth of musical understanding or emotional commitment. Hunt Lieberson is a true artist who resists easy classfication except to say she is perfect in what she does.

Album Description
Produced by influential multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell (the Cold Mountain soundtrack, Balfa Toujours, the Tim O'Brien Band), She Waits for Night captures all the grace, intensity, and charm that has already endeared the multitalented, all-girl string band Uncle Earl to all who have seen them in concert. It's a soulful mix of original and traditional songs boldly bringing old-time music into the new millennium. Ranging from full-bore string-band stomps ("Walkin' in My Sleep," "How Long") to aching ballads ("Willie Taylor"), from driving gospel standards ("Warfare") to disarming a cappella originals ("Divine"), the performances on She Waits for Night find Uncle Earl building upon centuries of tradition to create their own uniquely modern sound.
The "g'Earls" are: Kristin Andreassen (guitar, clogging, vocals), Rayna Gellert (fiddle, guitar, vocals), Sharon Gilchrist (bass, mandolin, vocals), KC Groves (mandolin, guitar, vocals), and Abigail Washburn (banjo, vocals).

Every CD is worth every penny.......2007-07-21
The inspirational anthem "Warfare" is the cut that I always set on "repeat" for at least 10 times every time I play this CD. It and "Take These Chains" make it worth every penny. Unexpectedly, I was astonished to realize it is conceivable to think that during this nation's slavery era (before it was abolished), the captives whose masters were never cruel COULD HAVE BEEN patting their shackled feet when they heard fiddles playing jigs and folks square-dancing in the mansions. Those slaves who ultimately gained freedom endured only through faith, hope and music. Thanks, Uncle Earl.
wonderful folk.......2007-06-08
it is the kind of music I love, especially with the beautiful female vocals, it makes me as happy to listen to as Mike Oldfields moonlight shadow back in the 80's. It's also a good loader for my own creative batteries, working as a painter and a writer.
A beautiful slice of Americana pie.......2006-01-19
A very impressive album featuring the fiddle of Rayna. One of the strongest old-time groups out, they really have an authentic, tight sound that is unlike most other groups that play old-time. I saw them live and they are just as good in person as on record.
A New Look at Old Music.......2005-12-18
For a style of music that's so supremely rooted in homespun traditions, front porch gatherings, and community, bluegrass has slid on keeping women active in the fold. Even women stars like Adrienne Young and Laurie Lewis tend to have all or mainly men in their backing bands. Not so for Uncle Earl, an all-female supergroup playing some of the most forward-thinking, progressive old-timey music you can get out there right now.
The troupe a quartet (now a quintet on tour) who play originals and traditionals with a distinctly acoustic mindset that isn't shackled to twang of the past. Though there is no doubt the group is playing bluegrass, they bring in hints of jazz, blues, Cape Breton music, and more in the progressive acoustic mold. Even better, all members of the group are also confident artists with careers apart from the group--we get the benefit of strong soloists who aren't going to be subverted by their own egos.
Original songs like "Pale Moon," "Divine," and "Take These Chains" give group members an opportunity to strech their legs as innovators and rotating group leaders. But the solo mindset under these tunes is carefully balanced with old traditionals like "Willie Taylor" and covers like "There Is a Time" which allow the members to vanish into a greater whole. The interplay of these forces creates a complex tapestry of sound in which no single creative voice dominates the others.
This is the third album issued under the Uncle Earl name, though it's the first to go into wide release. Not only does it serve as an excellent introduction to the band, it can turn the audience on to the individual members, most of whom have their own work out as well. (Abigail Washburn is definitely the star of the group, but I'm fond of Rayna Gellert's distinctive and resonant voice, and her sharp fiddling.) If old-timey music has a place in a hip-hop world, these skilled and active women will be at the keystone. Look for more from them in the near future.
Superbly Fresh and Unique American Music.......2005-11-10
Women have long held important roles in rural American songwriting and music-making. This group of young women are worthy successors. Far too original and ambitious to be simply keepers of the flame, Uncle Earl makes old-time music that's undeniably contemporary. Their topical songs weave stories grounded in today's realities. And their expansive repertoire of old-time cover tunes inspires the classics with the living essence of our time. Frankly, I bought this one on a lark ... hoping for the best. And I got the very best indeed.

Product Description
On the heels of his most recent album, Subtitulo, Josh Rouse forms a new side project featuring his girlfriend (artist Paz Suay) under the name, "She's Spanish, I'm American". The five-song EP features playful duets between Josh and Paz as they share stories from their adventures together. The songs give listeners an upbeat, refreshing sound, full of light-hearted lyrics laced with lots of romance. "I thought it would be fund to do something with Paz cuz I like her voice. I like female singers with accents and I had some songs I thought she would sound good on. We both like to come up with cover Images so it seemed like a perfect reason to start a project." Rouse stated. The initial recordings were done in their apartment in Valencia this summer, upon returning from several months of touring in support of Subtitulo; Paz shared, "spending some time on the road during the last US tour was a great and fun experience. So, when Josh came up with the idea of doing something else together; as a collaboration, it sounded very good to me." They sent several tracks back to their friend in Nashville, Daniel Tashian (who has written and played in Josh's band in the past) to add live drums, keyboards and guitars.

WOW! What a nice surprise!.......2007-06-13
Car Crash and The Ocean Always Wins should definitely be on the radio. The other songs are way above average, as well.
Josh and Paz - if you read this, you should DEFINITELY keep this up - you're seriously on to something.
I couldn't be happier with this, but it's more poppy and different from the Josh Rouse CDs, but if you're a JR fan, I don't see you being disappointed!
Not Josh's best but still great.......2007-05-24
This is not Josh Rouse's best album, that would be "Nashville," but hey it's Josh Rouse so it's still pretty good. I enjoyed hearing the interplay with Paz Suay, his girlfriend, and she's got a pretty nice voice herself. This is a nice little EP.
wish there was more of it.......2007-05-15
i love josh rouse, first time hearing the female artist, now a fan. wish it were longer!
Hopefully this is a sign that we can expect more from the two of them together........2007-04-13
Well if your first thought is anything like mine, let me calm your nerves - this album features neither DJ Jazzy Jeff nor the Fresh Prince. What? No love for a He's the DJ, I'm The Rapper joke? You're right. That was bad. Ok, so rather than that actually being my first thought, I have been excited for this EP since I heard it was being made. Josh Rouse and Paz Suay are back at it...musically. After what I consider a successful first collaboration on Josh's latest album Subtitulo, the two teamed up for five more songs. This is a great EP.
01. Car Crash I love the jazzy beat to this song. It is a little higher tempo than material Josh has done before and despite the morbid lyrics about wanting to die in a car crash, it makes for a very refreshing sound.
02. Jon Jon They waste no time before jumping right into the second track. Everyone has a friend named Jon Jon who seems to always be in trouble and can't find his way out of a bottle right? Me neither, but this is another optimistic tune with less-than-optimistic lyrics. It is probably a theme we should get used to on this short album, especially since we're two for two on songs I like. Paz handles this one alone vocally.
03. The Ocean Always Wins A little backstory here is that Josh Rouse and Paz Suay were living in two separate places on separate continents and had agreed to move to New York City together. Before she had a chance to leave to meet him, he surprised her by moving to live with her in Spain. This song is either an accurate or fictional account of someone who is about to cross the ocean to be with the one she loves. It is beautifully sung and could put Paz Suay on your list of favorite female vocalists.
04. These Long Summer Days Josh Rouse re-enters the album vocally here. I like this song a lot. As we approach the comfort of the warmer months this is a gentle reminder of the carefree feeling summer brings.
05. Answers Josh Rouse has a very delicate and comforting voice. He showcases it very well here. I like this song, too, but just not as much as the other four on the disc. He gets a little more experimental with the sound on this track and it doesn't do much for me.

In the short time since they grouped together a few years ago to form their sensationally successful trio, the Irish Tenors have already put out an impressive array of recordings and DVDs, including some bona fide gooseflesh-inducing live concert performances. So, if you still have the enviable pleasure of discovering these amazing vocalists--or want to turn a friend on to their musical charms--this compilation CD will do the trick nicely. It brings together such classics as "Danny Boy," "Toora Loora Looral," "Last Rose of Summer," and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" (featuring John McDermott)--all rendered with the kind of passionate, heartfelt, and harmonious crooning that is their signature style, whether they're singing as an ensemble or as highlighted soloists. And even if you have the complete Irish Tenors, this anthology includes several numbers not found on their previously released CDs. Hard to think of a sweeter treat for a fan of singing too good to ever go out of fashion. --Sarah Chin

Irish at it's best........2007-05-07
This album is really the number two album from this trio. It is very good and well worth the investment. The five star album by The Irish Tenors would have to be Heritage. Both albums rate high in my book.
Irish Magic.......2006-08-21
This is my first CD of the Irish Tenors. And what a joy! I played it as soon as it arrived. I like the blend of their voices, the passion and enthusiasm they bring to this CD. What I find is a real treat is the words to all the songs are in the booklet.I love this CD.
Just got your Kleenex.......2005-12-25
I suggest a box of Kleenex for each person in the room when you play this CD or VHS recording. Mom won't let me play it anymore because she...well, you know what I mean.
Wonderful!.......2005-12-12
When it's cold and frightful here, I play The BOYZ!
So wonderful. So much fun.
Up here in backwash Maine, there ain't much, believe me. But these guys are great. Sincere, care about what they're doing, true artists.
Ah, to go to Ireland again. Well, not unless the price of natural gas recedes!
The Very Best of the Irish Tenors is just that!.......2005-01-22
This recording is wonderful. Ronan's "last Rose of summer" is unique, the Percy French medley shows all three in great voice, Finbar's Maggie is wonderful and the laurels have to go to Anthony for his magnificent rendition of "She moved through the fair", wow!!!!
Well worth buying.

Very happy with this purchase and the price. Good soundtrack if you enjoyed the movie.
Great....but could have been better........2005-03-12
Loved the movie. Love this soundtrack. However... one of the best moments in the movie is the big lawnmowing scene with the terrific Gene Krupa song "Drummer Man". What a travesty that the song is not on this album. I was hoping the reissue would have it but sadly, just like my original vinyl copy, the song is absent.
Still a wonderful collection of music from an excellent movie.
A classic!.......2003-08-14
"IT'S GOT A PLASTIC FLYWHEEL!" Very good soundtrack to a very funny movie. A couple of the songs are real gems and the rest will take you back to the sound of the mid-80s. This CD used to sell for a pretty penny on ebay which no doubt helped prompt its re-release. Buy a copy or two before it goes out of print again.

A masterful collection for its time........2003-03-29
I'm one of the myriad of listeners who once had the original copy and let it slip through my hands in a "temporary lack of judgment" (sold it for chump change to a used-CD store clerk who probably listens to Sum-41 and thinks John Hughes is a dead president). In any case, over the ensuing years I've come back to my senses and recognized this album for its inherent pop value. No, it's admittedly not "essential" by anyone's standards, save the few who fell in love with it on emotional criteria alone. But it's a fine pop classic. Particularly attractive on this album are Everything But the Girl's "Apron Strings" (presented as an alternate version not found on any other album on the planet), Carmel's "It's All in the Game," and that forgettable 80's product by Dr. Calculus. Though Carmel's song apparently appeals more to me than to most other listeners, EBTG's "Apron Strings" was a hands-down favorite across the board. We can be grateful, however, that XTC and General Public's Dave Wakeling are still here, supported by Kate Bush's immortal "This Woman's Work" (an undeniably touching moment in its own right). IRS Records had a gem on their hands back in '88, and despite the contractual red tape it must've taken to set this in motion, we should be grateful that Hughes Music issued this re-release 15 years later. In light of today's dime-a-dozen movie soundtracks, this compilation is a fading glance backwards at something now unacheivable. If you ever come across my original copy of the "She's Having a Baby" soundtrack in your local used CD store, pay the man whatever he's asking for it, take it home, and wear it out. In the meantime, buy eight or nine copies of this one here (it's identical to the original!).
