About the Artist
Spicy rhythms, imaginative wordplay, and a sincerity of sound crafted on real instruments unify and diversify the artistic palate of the Buddhacrush. Their yin and yang cultural stew doesn't just stick to the recipes but feasts on funky pop songs mixed with jazzy improvisations and wild immediacy. The band's ingredients are certainly irresistible! This sextet began forming in May of 2000 and features recent Rosebud member Ian Berry on guitar, violin goddess Amy Price from Celtic greats Gordian Knot, jazz/rock bass master Tom Jenkins, nationally known rhythmist Joseph Jackson shines on drums and vibes, former Zealots front man Tim McGlashen sings, plays guitar, and percussion; and local sax legend “Skeets” from jam band Pot Roast and reggae act King Cobra sweetens this melodic pot. The Buddhacrush songs are a truly synergistic pop/jazz/funk melting pot, drawing on a variety of influences and meshing organically into a voice that seems natural, not contrived. “We are first and foremost songwriters,” states Tim, “And our songs continue to deepen the raw emotional style and musical power this group inherently possesses.”

    5 out of 5 stars Sparkling Debut.......2002-07-16

One of the most compelling bands to emerge from the Houston music scene in recent years, the Buddhacrush creates magnificently crafted, richly textured songs. A blend of stylistic influences such as rock, pop, jazz, blues, and soul, the music is richly textured, and the lyrics are intelligent. The classic rock format of lead guitar, bass, drums, and vocals is augmented by the sultry interplay of violin and saxophone. Fans of Roger Daltrey and Rod Stewart will love Tim McGlashen's powerhouse vocals. The passion and talent of all the musicians is evident. This album is a sparkling debut by a band that is truly a rising star.
