Great for yoga and/or meditation. The only thing I'd change is the talking on the last track--I find it's distracting. Otherwise, I'd rate it five stars. My classes love it.

There's too much caterwauling in this one. Not for meditation, maybe as a quiet background for ambience, I dunno. It didn't quite inspire any transcendental experiences for me.

I like this album, it is soothing and meditative. The music is compelling and the vocals are pleasant. Unfortunately, I can't give it a higher rating, because some of the Sanskrit words are incorrectly pronounced. I'm not trying to be picky, but you'd think that Deborah who's written a book on healing music would know how to pronounce the lyrics of her songs. With that in mind, the album is quite good.

The album is very enjoyable to listen to. If you like a meditative type of music. Several songs are chants (or mantras) that have been put to music. I liked this one very much.

I learned to pronounce Divine names I read in spiritual books,
but never heard chanted before, from this CD.
As a woman, following the voice of a women guide
was easier for me to echo, then male chants.
It is the perfect CD to play and chant along while ringing
my own crystal bowls and sets a relaxing, prayerful mood
before going to sleep, for me.

This might just be the Hildegard CD you're having if you're having only one. Unlike CDs by the better-known Sequentia and Gothic Voices--all superb and highly recommended--here we get Hildegard sung by one voice, that of the lovely Rosa Lamoreaux, whose natural, warm, unaffected, but dramatically involved presentation keeps the listener riveted. She is supported by Tina Chancey and Scott Reiss (known collectively as Hesperus), who entwine the vocal lines with music for recorders, hammered dulcimer, vielle, viola da gamba, and other instruments--as well as performing three solos. Recorded in a soft-focus acoustic, this disc surrounds you with delicacy, devotion, and elegance--much the way Hildegard might have wanted it. This cd contains some of the most beautifully crafted and "luminous" music that I have ever heard. The quality of the musicianship is exquisite; the vocals and arrangments are superb. Is it possible to give a product ten stars? If so, then this recording deserves, at the very least, that rating.

Voice and spirit of the angels!.......2004-02-27

This CD is a most heavenly creation of voice and music with Soprano Rosa Lamoreaux having the voice of an angel. It was like being lifted to heaven on angel's wings. I took this CD with me to the hospital when I had serious surgery recently. When the pain was at it's worst, I put this CD in my CD-walkman and was peacefully lulled into a most calm state. This was one of two CD's that I listened to while in the hospital, the other was Hildegard von Bingen: Ecstatic Chants, which was truly a CD of healing voice and music as well and also one that I highly recommend.

Soprano Rosa Lamoreaux has the voice of an angel and takes the listener to another plain in this magical recording. Hildegards music is universal and combines the wonderful detail of medieval precision with the soothing elements of chant.

This recording should be bought by anyone who enjoys early music or chant or the lyrical tones of a beautiful voice.

Lovely and meditative.......2007-05-14

This is a basic rosary CD with the recitation only. There are no Bible references, just announcements of each mystery.

You just can't have too many rosary CDs! Each is wonderful and unique and lovingly carries us to the Blessed Mother. I own and play several rosary CDs and this is one of my favorites. Ms. Harris's voice is sweet but it sounds to me sometimes like she's trying to alter her natural voice to come across as being sweet and angelic. I prefer a more natural speaking tone. Personally, I prefer the different priests' voices and recitations. The glorious mysteries are led by a priest whose meditative style of recitation can transport me to the sublime realm - and I have to be careful when playing this in my car while driving!

I would rate this CD as 5 stars for the priests and 4 stars for Ms. Harris.

best rosary audio cd.......2007-05-08

My husband and I listen to it daily. There are alternative voices and spiritual music as background. The pace is perfect. i.e. not too fast nor too slow. It is a great way to recite the rosary while you are commuting!!

Good Content but Diffiult to Hear.......2007-04-15

I love the meditations and fruits of the mysteries on this CD, but it is difficult to hear at least half of the priests, due to either the quietness of their voices or poor quality sound recording. I always have to adjust my speakers as well as increase the volume in order to actually hear the words. On one of the mysteries (I think it's the last one), in the middle of it I actually have to do even more adjusting because it keeps getting lower and lower in volume.

So I recommend this CD for it's content, but only if you don't mind fiddling with your stereo knobs a lot so that you can hear what's being said.

I ordered this CD to use for my daily Rosary that I have started to do again in my walk of Faith with God. The music in the background is wonderful. It does not distract in any way at all. The 4 priests along with Gretchen makes saying the daily Rosary a very easy thing to do filled with Grace and the longing to continue to pray the Rosary as our Mother Mary would like for us to do. You won't be disappointed in Gretchen's Rosary CD. You will love listening to her voice and praying along with her too. Enjoy!

If you are tired of the same old thing and are looking for something to immerse your self in then this is one of 2 albums you must own.

Barbara Cohen - a folk singer by trade melds pefectly into the rhythm's created by Paul Robb.

Long before Evenescence blended Classical Singing with Heavy metal Music,
Luminous (a.k.a. Brother Sun Sister Moon) Blended Techno and Trip-Hop with a Folk singer to make some of the best and most interesting music that I have come across in years.

Beats, drama, and the finest voice..........2003-05-02

Here, save yourself some time: don't read my review, just purchase this CD. You will like it.

Being a longtime fan of 'trip hop' and the like, it took me 5 seconds to fall in love with this set of songs. It has a nearly perfect blend of creative songwriting, hook-laden melodies, intriguing use of instruments (both electric and acoustic), and the strongest, most bewitching lead vocalist I've heard in years.

"Los Angeles" kicks things off with a hard, pounding, dramatic beat interspersed with snippets of classical instruments and just the right amounts of electric guitar. And did I mention how wonderful the vocalist is?

"Portlandtown" packs an emotional charge and somehow manages to make you feel the pain, loss, and firm resolve of the protagonist. The song chugs along toward the dramatic conclusion, and you're carried along to the end.

"Hummingbird" is the track that utterly floored me. Orbital lends their talents to the songwriting/mixing side of things here, which results in a fine musical pastiche. But when the singer cuts loose with her soaring vocals... I got chills.

"Marigold" is another chill-inducing song, slower in tempo, with heartfelt vocals that grab your attention first, then your emotions. It's a heart-rending love song, sung in such a way that you BELIEVE what she's saying.

"Motorcade," "Salem," and "In Love With Pain" round out the absolutely amazing set of tunes.

Seriously, this is some of the most creative, melodic music you could find in this genre. The lead singer is just so good. Her voice has a depth and maturity that are completely lacking in many other groups. Like another reviewer here stated, she could sing the phone book and I'd be enthralled.

Try it! You won't be disappointed!

In Love With Pain.......2002-04-14

Luminous was a happy accident that I stumbled upon. The album cover intrigued me. It had a gothic feel to it. What sold me was that there was a track on the album that the group collaborated with legendary act Orbital ("Hummingbird"). Plus there was a brief description on the wrapping that this was an electronica album with hypnotic melodies. Before I listened to the cd itself, I automatically knew that this was going to have a trip hop edge to the music. After listening to the album, I can't say that the music is completely trip hop music but there is obvious trip hop influences in it. Barbara Cohen's voice is warm and inviting. She has a gorgeous voice and it fits perfectly with the music. She could sing the telephone book and I would find it fascinating to listen . Barbara also plays the mandolin and guitar. The sampled, synthesized electronic beats provided by Paul Robb is enchanting. Their self-titled album is an eclectic collection of music that blends live instrumentation with samples and synthesized electronic beats which you don't hear very often on a lot of albums nowadays. There were moments when I was almost able to recognized the samples used in the songs but unfortunately having the rotten memory that I have, I couldn't place the samples to the song but I know that I sworn I heard a Madonna sample used on this album. The more I have listened to this album, the more I have fallen in love with the haunting vocals of Barbara Cohen and the sampled, synthesized beats provided by Paul Robb. Simply an enchanting album.

A genre-defying, aurally dense album that stays with you.......2002-04-12

First, there's Barbara Cohen: she is a singer of remarkable credibility, range, maturity, and charisma. (Her voice is simply gorgeous; I'd listen to her sing nearly anything.) Next, Paul Robb complements her voice perfectly with his eclectic and beautiful sampled and synthesized instrumentation. Finally, the two of them together write songs that are thoughtful, original, and danceable.

I really, really, really like this album, and allow myself to listen to it only once or twice a day so I don't start taking it for granted. And all of this, by the way, applies equally to this album's predecessor, "The Great Game" (which Ms. Cohen & Mr. Robb released under the band-name "Brother Sun Sister Moon").

Excellent album!.......2002-04-12

This is an excellent album. The songs are extremely well crafted, and the production is amazing. The whole record combines cool beats, captivating sonic textures and amazing vocals. Barbara Cohen's voice runs the gamut from cool and sedcutive to haunting and full of anguish. This is the kind of CD you'll listen to again and again.

This is my favorite of her two Albums and one of my favorite CDs in my entire collection. I love devitional music, and this album is totally upbeat with tastefully interwoven Flamenco guitar, Indian Percussion, Tablas, among more modern sounding back-beats, and dance grooves. Perfect for meditation, Yoga, and even Just Getting Inspired. To me this Album has a whole lot of Aries/Libra Balance about it. It has a very FREEDOM LOVE feeling about it and yet it is very clear, balanced and awake. This album, I hated the first time I listened to it! So I sold it. The second time I listened to it, I was absoluetly shocked to Love it, and It is now one of my most favorite albums, and more frequently listened to, without ever getting sick of it. Maybe that is how I love it so much. Somehow this album merged with me in a non-conscious way, and totally snuck up on me! Wow, A very magical abum of peace and freedom in Devotional Modern Style~ very Very Highly recommended.

This is a good CD, but her previous CD, Ocean of mercy was much better.

To summaries in one sentence, this CD simply dose not have the energies of Ocean of mercy, and in this regard it is very disappointing!

A totally relaxing experience.......2004-07-25

I'm not really into music that has a lot of chanting in it except maybe for early Enigma music. Then I heard Jaya Lakshmi on "Buddha Lounge 2" last year with the beautifully hypnotic "Sundara". I found myself playing that particular song over and over. Today I was listening to samples of Jaya's second album "Jewel of Hari" (which also contains "Sundara") at a major bookstore chain. I found myself enchanted by the Asian-influenced melodies and Jaya's hypnotic chants. Jaya Lakshmi has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Her vocals do not overwhelm the lush melodies throughout the cd. All the songs took my breathe away. I loved the title track "Jewel of Hari" which is a gentle, lush acoustic folk/new age song. It was so light and gentle it could literally float on air. The second I heard the first song "Radha Pranam", I knew my ears were in for a treat. I was hooked on Jaya's music right then and there. Picking a favorite song off this enchanting cd is so difficult for me because I love all of them in their own unique way. "Ramachandra" is ridiculously catchy, I found myself humming along to the song. Most of the songs are written by Jaya herself but there are a few traditional chant songs like "Bhaja Hure Mana" and "Bolo Sri Krsna". The arrangements on all of the songs is nothing short of stunning. All the instruments on the cd ranges from modern acoustic guitars to more traditional Indian instruments like the tabla and sarod. I almost wanted to started dancing to this cd or practice yoga when I was listening to this cd in the bookstore. The music captivated me the same way that I was captivated by the Buddha Bar series. Krishna Vallabha's deep spiritual connection is reflected in her beautiful voice and lovely musical compositions. As a yoga instructor I use Krishna's music to set a sacred and loving space for practice. My Goddess Circle is currently learning the music on the Jaya cd so that we may join in the celebration of these Divine love songs. Gorgeous vocals!.......2005-04-08

I listen to her music all day in my home, in my car and at work (i'm a massage therapist / yoga teacher). Krishna has a special purity in her voice, a natural devotion that I have not heard in any other kirtan / chanting cd. She is a rising star. I highly recommend her cd.
