About the Artist
"A story! A story! Let it come. Let it go."
This ancient storytelling call beckons listeners to enter the imagined worlds of storyteller Rose Anne St. Romain. With playful gusto and elegant grace, she wraps the spoken word around audiences of all ages, reaching minds one story at a time. Since 1982 St. Romain has been entertaining and educating children and adults through the art of the spoken word. St. Romain has presented over 2000 performances and workshops throughout the United States.Romain recently performed at Margaritaville / Universal Studios and the show was broadcast live on Radio Margaritaville. She has toured with Buffett, telling stories to parents and children prior to his rock concerts.
St. Romain earned a masters degree in Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University after completing a masters degree in Oral Interpretation from Southern Illinois University. She has diverse performance credits. An annual performer at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival sine 1995, she has also facilitated numerous book discussion series for the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. She has conducted workshops and performed for Indiana's Noble Tales Festival, Oklahoma's Norman Mardi Gras, North Carolina School Library Association, International Reading Association, American Association of University Women, L.S.U.'s Dept. of Library and Information Science and L.S.U.'s Education Dept., Louisiana Library Association, Louisiana Association of Early Childhood Educators, and for hundreds of schools and libraries.
Born and raised in the little French-speaking town of Mansura, Louisiana ("...population 2000 with cows," she says!) St. Romain's French heritage is apparent in her dramatic upbeat style. Telling stories was integral to daily life in her family of ten people giving her roots and knowledge of the power of the spoken word.
"Stories are part of an ancient, natural, and universal tradition," St. Romain says. "The human brain seems to be be wired to receive, store, and recall stories. Before the invention of the printing press in the mid- 1400's, people primarily depended on memory and the spoken word to record and pass on laws, religious beliefs, customs, and traditions. This information was frequently framed in a story. In other words, for thousands of years, storytelling and story listening were as integral to daily life as reading the newspaper, watching television, surfing the Internet, or listening to the radio is today! These modern media tell stories and record information, but they do not provide interpersonal connections for us. Storytelling does! Whether the story is a folk tale or a personal anecdote, stories bond us to each other in uniquely powerful ways ."

Product Description
Rose Anne St. Romain's adaptations of these tales were born in 1989 and evolved over the years as she traveled Louisiana's highways, byways, bayous and back roads telling these tales along the way. The French cultures of Louisiana gave us the word "lagniappe" which means "a little something extra that is unexpected." Because of its rich cultural heritage, Louisiana abounds in "lagniappe" (pronounced "lon-yop.") Louisiana's abundant waterways attracted native peoples, adventurers, outcasts and folks from all over the world. Its numerous rivers, lakes, bayous, swamps and marshes provided water, food, transportation, trade routes and products for early settlers. And for thousands of years, the waterways flooded annually, depositing rich topsoil over the lowlands, furnishing the "groundwork" for farms and plantations. These stories reflect elements of a few of Louisiana's cultures and are filled with images encountered by early settlers.
