About the Artist
If a tree falls in the forest, but no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Alexis Harte, a San Francisco-based songwriter and ecologist, has been writing and singing his own personal style of music for years, but we haven't been fortunate enough to hear it. With his debut album, Junebug (Mentlmusic 1004), he emerges from the woods with a wealth of experience--guitar in hand--telling stories of people and other creatures in complex and intimate harmonies.

Harte spent the last decade as a studio musician and a touring band member, supporting such performing artists as Deborah Pardes and Kristen Battersby. While living and performing in Brazil over 3 years, he absorbed various South American rhythms and has infused his unique brand of American folk rock with a distinctive Brazilian flavor. His study of classical and flamenco styles add further dimension to his sound. Harte has for many years supported and complemented the original work of other artists, while honing his guitar playing and songcraft. Junebug is now a perfect vehicle for him to take center stage. Hearing him play live--or settling into his music at home--offers a profoundly intimate and lyrical experience.

Under the company name, we have produced several media projects ranging from concerts to trade show booths; from web sites to product demos. We have produced 3 cds for Pardes, and have participated in several compilation projects, including

The SIBL Project. Also coming in December - a new CD from artist Alexis Harte. Our initial work in music has spawned into our love for things creative. This company supports our ability to get involved in all kinds of projects. Some work bends towards the corporate needing to bend towards the cool. Some work focuses on building community around the artists that need the support and the recognition. Some things pay the bills, some things feed the soul. It 's all about balance.

    This CD marks first recorded collaboration for Clarksdale blues veterans Terry Big T Williams and Wesley Junebug Jefferson takes listeners on an audio tour of the rough and tumble jukes and blisteringly hot cotton fields of Clarksdale, Mississippi. Meet Me in the Cotton Field features a mix of a cappella field hollers, acoustic country blues and searing electric workouts. The disc features tracks from two recording sessions held a year apart. The first session, held at Jimbo Mathus Clarksdale recording studio, found the duo performing acoustic numbers ranging from harrowing originals to blues standards. The latter session features Williams and Jefferson in raucous electric mode. Songs from this session approximate the ragged-but-right, heavily amplified style that the musicians bring to their live shows at Clarksdale jukes Meet Me in the Cotton Field represents the first widely available CD for either of Jefferson or Williams. Jefferson has been a mainstay of the Clarksdale blues scene since the 1960s. Big T has been playing blues for nearly 30 years and in the past decade, Williams has emerged as one of most fiery bandleaders in the Delta, known for his searing guitar playing and fierce vocals. With the release of this CD, these two masters of gritty Delta blues are ready to take their music out of the jukes and onto the world stage.

    In case you ain't never heard of junebug slim you need to get this cd. He represents the west coast to the fullest. He's the most underated rapper in the game today. Peep the songs "Slippin in the rain", "Midnight", and "Kilifornia"

          I saw Harte by accident in San Francisco and was just marginally impressed enough to buy this album - his performances of Junebug and Candy Ring are what did it. Ever since, each time I listen to the album I like it a little more, discover some new beauty in yet another song... The music is spare but lovely, the ingredients are few but the taste nuanced: it's very simple and clever... perhaps analogy would prove the best description. So, if you like, hmm, Joni Mitchell, esp Clouds or For the Roses; Paul Simon's b-sides, or his Rhythm of the Saints; and / or Louise Gluck's poetry, you'll probably like this.

          This is one of my favorite CDs in my collection right now. And each time I listen to it, I love it even more. Alexis' writing is simple and moving but not moody. It's just music that makes you feel good - like the kind of music you want to listen to at the end of a great, lazy day on the beach or the kind of music you want to listen to at the beginning of a Saturday when you have the whole day ahead of you and you can do whatever you choose. My tastes fall along Train, Dave Matthews, Liz Phair, Indigo Girls, etc., though I don't know how the artist would feel about any kind of comparison. And I don't even know how I feel about those comparisons because his sound is unique and very refreshing.

Check out the song Spiders...he wrote it when he was staring at the wall with a temperature of 104 degrees. Eeks. Support this man and buy his album! It's a good thing.

          I was so impressed the first time I saw Alexis perform live with his band. He is a talented guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. I was equally impressed when I listened to Junebug. This is a thoughtful, lively, carefully crafted album worth much more than the sticker price. I'm still listening to mine.
