About the Artist
The Orpheus Male Chorus is the longest continually performing arts organization in the state of Arizona, performing continuously since January 1929. The chorus is joined on this recording by Jeremy Aye, baritone soloist whose appearances include the Opera Omaha and Symphony; The Kansas City Symphony; and the Arizona, Austin Lyric and Santa Fe Opera companies.

Product Description
Spanning nearly three centuries, the sea shanty has given birth to the mystique of the sea we all know today. These stories sung in a machine like rythm, helped pass the burdensome months with no sight of land. These songs of the sea have impacted choral music by becoming both a genre and a teaching tool. Our historical and present connection to male chorus music is evidenced by the very recent arrangements of ancient melodies and lyrics. This recording contains many arrangements by the duo of Robert Shaw and Alice Parker along with a haunting arrangement of Walt Whitman's poem "Out Of The Rolling Ocean".
