Cool music, good cause.......2006-09-30

I found out about this album because I'm a huge Sheryl Crow fan, and even though I already own her version of "The First Cut is the Deepest" (her contribution to this album) on her greatest hits, I picked it up because there are a bunch of other bands I knew I liked on there, like Lenny Kravitz, the Dixie Chicks, and Eric Clapton.

Plus I read that the proceeds are going to charity. I looked up the TJ Martell Foundation on the web and they seem to be an admirable organization, funding research for leukemia, cancer, and AIDS. Cool music, good charity. Definitely an easy way to spend some money on a CD and donate to charity at the same time. I felt really good about buying this :) Besides the cause that proceeds are going to, this CD is a nice mix of cover tunes that you have probably heard here or there on the radio when they were released, but haven't since. I like this music a lot. It makes me feel good:) A great compilation CD for the car...we play it a lot when I'm driving around with my friends:) Standout tracks are U2's version of "Everlasting Love" and of course Sheryl's version of "The First Cut is the Deepest."

Covered Down.......2006-09-15

This past year, there have been numerous singers who've done horific cover songs of great acts, like the sleezy Paris Hilton and her horrific, disgraceful rendition of Rod Stewart's Do Ya Think I'm Sexy. There also have been more artists that've made samples of those great songs that also have been in need of improvement like Rihanna and her sample of Soft Cell's Tainted Love for her song S.O.S., or Beyonce' and Jay-Z for Deja Vu, which actually samples her solo smash Crazy In Love. Well, now a compilation album has emerged that tries to take you into numerous covers of songs, but does it really stand out?

Between The Covers is a compilation album that features numerous artists and their editions of cover tracks. All in all, the record is very mixed with tracks that were recorded years earlier as hits while other ones are very meek and don't bring out any promise at all. The alb um includes classics tracks from Rod Stewart with his great cover of Tom Waits' Downtown Train, the embattled Dixie Chicks who came back strong this year, with their delightful Fleetwood Mac cover of Landslide, and Lenny Kravitz with American Woman. While those classics stand out, the rest of the record feels a bit more obscure with tracks from The Bacon Brothers, If I Need Someone, and Tori Amos and her cover of the Nirvana smash anthem Smells Like Teen Spirit.

All in all, Between The Covers isn't really a definitive compilation record, but it has some highs, and a lot of lows. I absolutely suggest you try another compilation record like Billboard #1's: The 70's, or Pure 80's #1's instead, which were released earlier this year. Those are much better records than this cover record stands out.

Another Uplifting Collection by A Heartfelt Duet.......2000-03-02

The wholehearted vocals and lyrics on this album will make you want to play it again and again. The album offers more peaceful and uplifting music from the duet who's love for each other and their music will inspire you in many ways. A must-have for anyone who treasures positivity and passion in music. Williamson and Fure's voices, once again, blend together in harmony perfectly.

Between the Covers is an incredible and beautiful work of art. The voices of Cris Williamson and Tret Fure blend together perfectly making this one of their best CD's. Cris and Tret are master story weavers and can work magic with words and melody. Every single track brings something special and each song has found a way into my soul and has forever changed me. This is a "must have" for every music collection.

This album is a beautiful testament to the special personal and professional relationship Williamson and Fure have with each other. It is a perfect blend of romance and Rock n' Roll. Highly recommend it!

What music, what voices..........1999-03-24

This was my first Cris & Tret CD and I fell in love with their music, their voices and their words -- what a joy to hear words and music so lovely and so rich. There is nothing typical about the songs they write and sing -- each is a delightful original, so unusal in today's world of predictable lyrics, sounds, and themes in mainstream music.

The CD Between the Covers is full of wonderful and romantic music from start to finish. Cris and Tret have put together music that is full of fun and love. If you are not familar with thier music this is a perfect CD to buy. I can not wait until thier next CD released in early 1999.

Album Description

Fourth Ray Productions was created by the artists, Carolyn and Cynthia, to record new works and lesser known works, for the smaller idiom of the violin and viola duo. There are many works for this combination, but not many have been recorded, except the most well known, like the Mozart Duos. This allows us to bring out the known repetoire and also to introduce new works, such as several of the pieces on this CD, String of Pearls. We hope to add several more of these works soon.

String of Pearls is a delightful CD! The violin and viola sounds of Carolyn Osborn and Cynthia Morrow truly touch the soul of the listener as they connect the heart with the rest of one's being. I am glad to have found this creatively arranged and orchestrated collection of music. In the aftermath of September 11 and these times of so much uncertainty, fear and doubt, it is uplifting to hear these kinds of serene and calming melodies. I recommend spending an hour with attention focused away from the fear-driven news media, and focused instead on listening to String of Pearls and intending peace for all on our planet.

This cd's lofty amibitions were not lost on me. I was truly touched by the masterful playing. It is obvious that these women are extremely accomplished on their instruments! I look forward to more recorded music from these two.

Wow, what a neat collection of duets! For those who like string ensemble, violin/viola music, or just good music, this CD is truly a treat. The two artists blend incredibly well, and the music selections they picked for this CD are fun and light, yet very cultured. I highly recommend this CD!!

Amazing Singer.......2005-03-18

I really love this album. I bought it on an off chance - being an American, I was not terribly familiar with Wet Wet Wet when I bought this album - I just thought it was an interesting choice of material. Over all - it's a great album with some stellar stand out tracks, and of course one or two that don't work QUITE as well - but even those are still not bad. Particularly I like his cover of Brand New Start - I think it's better than the Paul Weller origial. I also like his Beatle's cover Don't Let Me Down and Neil Young's A Lot Of Love gets a fresh new treatment. Sadly his version of Leonard Cohen's Suzanne is one of the weakest tracks on the album (I love this song - Listen to the Esther Ofarim recording - it's one of the best out there). Also not working so well is his voer of the Pretender's Brass in Pocket - it's just strange to hear it sung by a man.

Over all - if you've never heard Marti Pellow - go ahead and buy this album - it's a good bit of fun, enjoyable rock and roll by a Scottish lad with an amazing amount of soul in his voice.
