Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

Disney's greatest hits, volum 3.......2007-05-13
This is one of the better volums for kids and for those who are
above 18 but still have some kid in them
Timeless Disney Music.......2007-05-07
Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.
Disney songs are the best.......2006-03-18
I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.
Great Disney Music.......2006-02-21
I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!
Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2.......2005-09-11
This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

Elton John doesn't seem like a natural choice to write for a Disney musical, but he rose to the task on The Lion King, transcending his usual penchant for the softest of soft rock. Sir Elton's collaboration with Tim Rice (former writing partner of Andrew Lloyd Webber) helps connect the soundtrack to the theatrical lineage of all Disney musicals--so much so that, like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King was eventually adapted for Broadway. Undistinguished songs like "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" are far outnumbered by stirring, stately tunes that lent the film so much of its sense of pageant and play. --John Sanchez
Customer Reviews:
fun but flawed.......2007-05-07
in 1994, the lion king came out and broke records. the film itself took in an astounding 312 million dollars in the us. that makes it the highest grossing hand-drawn animated feature EVER (an accomplishment that will never be toppled since niether disney nor dreamworks is producing hand drawn features any more). that year at the oscars it also won two awards for the musical score and best original song (three of its songs were nominated0. so how does the music really stand up compared to other disney features.
first off there's hans zimmer's score. his score is both powerful and moving. it brilliantly incorperates elements of local african music (provided and arranged by lebo m) these elements give it a great feeling of belonging not only to the film but to it's setting. without these tribal elements the score would have been far less compeling. one small problem is when the score abandons these elementsl; they're not carried through in all of the music. but its not enough to be a real distraction. the power of the score allows the listener to feel the wildabeast charging or smell the rain falling during the monsoon or experience the brilliance of the circle of life.
SCORE 5 out of 5
the songs had music by elton john and lyrics by tim rice. the following is a song-by-song breakdown.
THE CIRCLE OF LIFE - this is a great opening number with powerful vocals provided by carmen twillie and impressive african-inspired vocals in the beggining by lebo m. with the actual film, this is not only a moving but inspiring piece of cinema. even without, this is a great song that still gives me goose-bumps. this definately warranted its oscar nomination
5 out of 5
I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO BE KING - this is a really fun song by simba and nala along with zazu. its infectious beat and lyrics definately leave u humming. this may not be the most memorable song, but it definately captures the youth and innocence of simba at this point
5 out of 5
BE PREPARED - this is scar's big number so to speak. it features the hyenas in a very dark yet memorable song. the rhaspy vocals and wonderful musical arrangements make this a great piece that is both eery and impressive.
5 out of 5
HAKUNA MATATA - this is the second oscar nominated song, and although its fun buddy type number, it does get old and doesnt really age as well as the rest. this is honostly one of the weakest songs, believe it or not, its good but just cant really hold up to the other stronger pieces.
4 out of 5
CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT - here it is, 1994's oscar winner for best original song. honostly i feel that the circle of life deserved that award, but here's the song that got it. the film's version is very romantic, especially for featuring a couple of lions, timon and pumba's parts are funny, but it is simba and nala's portion that takes it home. btw elton john's version at the end is a definate winner.
5 out of 5
SONGS OVERALL - 5 out of 5
so if the score gets 5 and the songs get 5, why does the album only get 4? the answer's pretty simple. for the first time since 1989 with the little mermaid, two composers helped on this film. one provided the film's score and one provided the music for the songs. because two composers worked on this, it feels a little incohesive at times. this isn't really noticible within the film but on the soundtrack it definately stands out. elton john and hans zimmer both did a great job and the only really saving factor are the african rhythms that they both used. although this is a great soundtrack, that lack of unity does bring it down.
despite that minor flaw, this is a must-own for any disney fan or music fan in general. this is a great soundtrack that ranks right up there with beauty and the beast and must never be forgotten.
Simply Perfect.......2007-04-09
This is hands down one of the best Disney soundtracks ever! Elton John came up with some killer tunes here! The opening song always give me goosebumps!
Great Album!.......2007-03-31
This album is great, but I can't seem to find the part where simba and scar fight at the end. i was thinking it would be on "King of Pride Rock" but its not... so i'm a little disapointed in that. (thats one of my favorite scenes for some reason) other than that, i love the songs.
Wonderful, if only for the instrumentals.......2007-02-14
The songs with lyrics are cute and memorable, but the strength of this album is in the last four songs. Listen to "This Land" and it instantly transports you back to the scene with Simba and Mufasa laying under the stars, and then to the scene where Simba sees Mufasa in the clouds. Listen to "...To Die For" and you feel an intense claustrophobia as you relive Mufasa's last moments and Simba's discovery of his father. Listen to Under The Stars and you can practically hear Simba screaming, "You said you'd always be there for me!" And when King Of Pride Rock comes along, you can feel your heart swell as you see Simba take his place on Pride Rock. The instrumentals are incredible works of art that never fail to draw intense emotion.
Wonderful Soundtrack.......2006-11-16
I'm writing this review not of the release of this Special Edition, but of the music contained within. Disney's release and re-release of products is nothing new. It's one of the reasons that Disney is so strong in the market today. With that said, I have to admit that this is one of the best Disney soundtracks that has ever been cut to a disc. I never owned the original release of this music, so I'm glad that Disney did decide to re-release the original work with a few extras as part of the "The Lion King: Special Edition" release. Everything on here is wonderful, and the score itself was key to the development of the story. Selections such as "King Of Pride Rock" and "To Die For" encompass the emotional ups and downs of this film. Elton John's music is also wonderful on this disc. His most notable offerings are "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life." His only downfall is "I Just Can't Wait To Be King," which should have been left to the youngster who performed Simba's singing voice. It comes acrossed as forced by Elton John as he performs it.
The "extras" for this Special Edition include a mild and unnecessary remix of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "The Morning Report," which is included on the Special Edition DVD release. Neither add to the collection, but it is nice to have "The Morning Report" on the disc.
Overall, this is one of Disney's strongest soundtracks. In my personal list, I rank it in second place behind Phil Collins' wonderfully tribal "Tarzan" soundtrack. If you don't already have the "Lion King" soundtrack, I highly suggest that you purchase this special edition copy if you are a true fan of the film or of Disney soundtracks in general.
Highly recommended.

What's most astonishing about Woody Guthrie is the way he created a whole, complete, living world of song. People, places, great and small events, nature, poetry, visions: He was so much more than a working class spokesperson, though, as this collection shows, he was the greatest one America has known. This first volume in the historic reissues of Guthrie's Smithsonian recordings is one of the finest: Guthrie's voice and verbal brilliance were at their peak in the 1940s and songs like "Do-Re-Mi," "Jesse James," and "Jesus Christ" continue to influence songwriters a half-century later. --Roy Francis Kasten
Album Description
The first in a series of four, this recording presents many of Woody Guthrie's best known songs taken from the original masters. Included here is the original version of Woody's anthem "This Land Is Your Land," which contains never-before issued lyrics. A major force in the urban folk song revival, Guthrie created an intimate portrait of America - its land and people. He has influenced many contemporary artists, among them Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Billy Bragg, and Bruce Springsteen. During the 1930s and 40s, Woody Guthrie wrote more than a thousand songs, recording hundreds of them for Folkways founder Moses Asch. The surviving masters now reside in the Folkways archive at the Smithsonian Institution. Running time: 72 minutes; 36-page booklet includes historical and biographical notes on Woody Guthrie. Compiled by Jeff Place and Guy Logsdon. "The single finest Guthrie Collection Available." --Music Central
Customer Reviews:
best single CD of Woody there is.......2007-03-23
This CD, in my opinion, represents the most cutting protest songs Guthrie wrote and performed. "This Land Is Your Land," included here with the extremely rare extra verse version, presents the song as he wrote it--a searing stab at the caste system, buried beneath the beauty of America's plains and mountains. Heard in this light, the song to me is no longer the light-hearted children's song we learned in grade school--it is a frightening message delivered via Guthrie's razor-sharp wit. The song sounds stark, forbidden, stifled.
This album is the beginning of it all. The recording quality is dubious at times, and Guthrie's plaintative singing and guitar playing only add to the ambience. These songs aren't easy to listen to, but this CD is an essential component of any collection, ranking with the Sun recordings in historical importance.
A true legend.......2007-01-18
What can be said about Woody Guthrie that has not already been said, and probably better than I possibly could.
All I can hope to do is add my voice to others in praising a wonderful singer / songwriter / activist / human being, who was very much a concience for his day and for ours.
I was so pleased to learn that his series of Asch Recodings are available today on CD. His music is collected in the Smithsonian Institute,
Washington - and deservedly so. I love his easy style, it's like he is sitting with you round the fire just strumming and singing out his wonderful mesages. The messages are truly timeless.
He, Pete Seeger, The Weavers, Leadbelly, and others influenced a whole generation of folk - Dylan, Baez, and many others. Please keep them available Amazon. They are still important and relevant.
One Great immortal song.......2006-08-04
Music is like art. What appeals to one might not another. In this case I wanted his recording of This Land is Your Land which was resurrected during the last presidential campaign by JibJab. If you haven't heard their rendition, it's a must. As far as the rest of Woodie's songs I thought they were OK but nothing great.

A POPULIST SINGER FOR THE AGES.......2006-04-02
This review is being used to describe several of Woody Guthrie's recordings. Although I have listened to most of his songs and recordings these represent those that best represent his life's work.
My musical tastes were formed, as were many of those of the generation of 1968, by `Rock and Roll' music exemplified by the Rolling Stones and Beatles and by the blues revival, both Delta and Chicago style. However, those forms as much as they gave pleasure were only marginally political at best. In short, these were entertainers performing material that spoke to us. In the most general sense that is all one should expect of a performer. Thus, for the most part that music need not be reviewed here. Those who thought that a new musical sensibility laid the foundations for a cultural or political revolution have long ago been proven wrong.
That said, in the early 1960's there nevertheless was another form of musical sensibility that was directly tied to radical political expression- the folk revival. This entailed a search for roots and relevancy in musical expression. While not all forms of folk music lent themselves to radical politics it is hard to see the 1960's cultural rebellion without giving a nod to such figures as Dave Van Ronk, the early Bob Dylan, Utah Phillips, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and others. Whatever entertainment value these performers provided they also spoke to and prodded our political development. They did have a message and an agenda and we responded as such. That these musicians' respective agendas proved inadequate and/or short-lived does not negate their affect on the times.
As I have noted in my review of Dave Van Ronk's work when I first heard folk music in my youth I felt unsure about whether I liked it or not. As least against my strong feelings about the Rolling Stones and my favorite blues artist such as Howling Wolf and Elmore James. Then on some late night radio folk show here in Boston I heard Dave Van Ronk singing `Come All You Fair and Tender Ladies' and that was it. From that time to the present folk music has been a staple of my musical tastes. From there I expanded my play list of folk artists with a political message.
Although I had probably heard Woody's `This Land is Your Land' at some earlier point I actually learned about his music secondhand from early Bob Dylan covers of his work. While his influence has had its ebbs and flows since that time each succeeding generation of folk singers still seems to be drawn to his simple, honest tunes about the outlaws, outcasts and the forgotten people that made this country, for good or evil what it is today. Since Woody did not have a particularly good voice nor was he an exceptional guitar player the message delivered by his songs is his real legacy.
Woody's relationship with the American Communist Party while no secret is not widely known. Even Bob Dylan, a worshipper of Woody's in his youth, was not aware of it. What is interesting is that the subjects of his songs fairly closely reflect the party line as it changed to reflect the winds blowing from Moscow. Woody's best work is reflected in the Popular Front style of ` This Land is Your Land' when the party developed its class collaborationist policy with the Rooseveltian Democratic Party and accordingly all liberals were good fellows and true. The Hitler-Stalin Pact was not good news for his style. Political differences between us aside, listen to his recordings and learn about hard times and struggle.
Woody Guthrie... Start here..........2005-10-02
Woody Guthrie has become an indelible part of 20th century American history. Many probably romanticize his story well beyond the realities of his life, but Guthrie's influence remains strong and unyielding. Many also know of the mesmerizing effect Guthrie's music had on the young Bob Dylan (see Dylan's "Chronicles, Vol 1"). Others soon jumped on the wagon, and Guthrie ended up speaking to subsequent generations long after his death in 1967.
Guthrie sang folk songs. Some he wrote himself, some he borrowed from others. Doing this today would result in heavy brickbat throwing along with accusations of "rip off!" But in Guthrie's day folk music meant borrowing. Times have changed. Long before constrictive copyright laws and the bizarre idea that artists must possess 100% originality to have relevance songs roamed the land in many forms. Folk songs came with a collective license (somewhat similar to today's Open Source software movement). It was not unusual for a singer to take another singer's music and put it to his or her own use. Guthrie did this. In fact, even Bob Dylan did this here and there on some of his earliest albums and in his Gaslight shows. That was folk music then. So some of the melodies on this CD may turn up on other folk singer's albums of the day. But that's okay.
Nonetheless, Guthrie was a songwriter of startling orginality. His lyrics alone comprise one of the most impressive collections in popular music history. Their themes and subjects trace back to the themes of early American folk music. Guthrie sat comfortably in this tradition. But Guthrie stuck mostly to his times, and he absorbed the times and the people, especially the disenfranchised, and the legends of his own time. He wrote about the down and out, about scandals, about tragedies, and human nature.
This CD showcases Guthrie's amazing versatilty and range as a folk singer. Many of the recordings date from the 1940s (though for sme no recording date exists). Three versions of Guthrie's most famous song, "This Land is Your Land" sit between some two dozen of Guthrie's best and well known songs. The second version includes the "Private Property" lyrics (they weren't included in the original release of the song and they rarely get sung in contemporary performance). There are also songs for children ("Car Song", "Why, O Why?"), songs about World War II, Hitler, Charles Lindbergh (particularly his infamous visit to Hitler and the "America First" organization), the Spanish Civil War ("Jarama Valley"), American landmarks and landscapes ("Grand Coulee Dam", "New York Town", "Pastures of Plenty"), working (the hilarious "Talking Hard Work"), legends ("Jesse James"), lonliness ("Hobo's Lullaby", "I Ain't Got Nobody", "Hard, Ain't it Hard"), tragedies (specifically sunken ships; "When That Great Ship Went Down", "Sinking of the Reuben James"), and even Jesus Christ. Nothing from Guthrie's time seems out of his scope.
Guthrie's voice may not appeal to everyone. But it contains a drawl and an accent that speaks directly to the themes he sings about. Guthrie would not have "worked" as a swooning crooning nightingale (a similar argument stands for Bob Dylan's voice). His voice contains grit, experience, and unpolished raw personality. These aren't Broadway songs and Guthie was no Broadway singer. His songs spoke to the average person (and also to the Smithsonian Institution's Moses Asch who recorded these tracks).
Guthrie told it as it was. The song "Why, Oh Why?" says it best. In response to the impossible questions the song poses, Guthrie sings simply "Because, because, because, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye." Things are the way they are, but work and songs can act as a vehicle for change. Guthrie stands as a symbol of the meaning music can have for a person, a country, and a world.

Customer Reviews:
NOX ARCANA THE ULTIMATE MOODLIFTER.......2007-06-27
Theres not enough words to put down on what this group means to me....I wirte some of my best works by their music.
Vampire country.......2007-05-10
Books don't usually have soundtracks. "Dracula" definitely didn;t.
But when listening to Nox Arcana's "Transylvania," all I could think of was Bram Stoker's quintessential vampire, and the hauntingly creepy atmosphere of the book. The band forms plenty of rich neoclassical tunes, around a hazy storyline about (what else?) vampires.
It opens with a creepy organ, some smooth violins sweeping up from behind. A deep voice intones, "Darkness descends upon the land, wrap the world in night's black embrace... the restless dead stir within their ancient tombs, and creatures born of shadow rise to quench their savage hunger..." Imagine Bela Lugosi rising from a coffin.
It's followed up by some warmup songs -- the darkly enticing "Voyage," which expands out into an epic, eerie sweep, and the ghostly piano of "Gossamer Mist." The songs that follow are just as richly imagined -- ghostly fast-paced strings, magnificently dark organ and grim gypsy music, laced with church bells, shimmering vocals and ghostly little breezes.
Listening to "Transylvania" is like walking slowly through a cobwebbed, shadowy castle, and listening to Dracula playing a pipe organ in a dusty ballroom, with his brides singing accompaniment. It's not too hard to imagine that you're Jonathan Harker, after hearing songs like "Echoes From the Crypt."
Their music is an lush dusty tapesty of gothic instrumentation. Rich, hollow organ, shimmering harp, strings both windy and rapid, fast-moving percussion, a delicate piano, and some dark shimmers of keyboard all blend together into haunting slow-turning melodies. And as if that weren't good enough, they sprinkle the music with the flutter of bat wings, church bells, ghostly murmurs, and delicate music-box tinkles.
Fortunately Nox Arcana doesn't wreck all this eerie atmosphere with typical singing. Instead we get the occasional deep-voiced intonations, sort of like the introduction. And there are some delicate female vocals -- they murmur softly one minute, only to rise into echoing, wordless solos the next. It's absolutely stunning.
Nox Arcana's "Transylvania" does a brilliant job of capturing the ideal vampire-gothic atmosphere -- creepy and beautifully refined, with no kitschiness. The ideal soundtrack to Bram Stoker's classic (not to mention Halloween).
This soundtrack drains your blood dry, it's that awsome!.......2007-01-28
I have this one, its great. It's not only good for Halloween but its good for when you go to sleep at night, it actually puts you into another realm of dreams and nightmares. It helps you sleep and not only that, it gives you something to relax your body with. It's very good for one of those stormy and rainy or snowy nights. I am an artist and I use it to create monster theme pictures and other creepy drawings. It helps me put myself in that state of mind were I can listen to this and let my imagination flow. If you like this one you will really love the CARNIVAL OF LOST SOULS, WINTER KNIGHT. I still have to get the winter knight one. These soundtracks are classics, not that many peopl listen to them. They are for the soul purpose to escaping the real world and entering another of the bizzare and strange. They are just good to listen too, when ever you feel like it. But this is a good tool for some people who have trouble sleeping at night. But if you listen to the children of the night, and what lovely music they made, you will deffently get your money's worth on all 3 cd's Translyvania, Winter Knight, Carnival of lost Souls... It's worth it.
Wonderful Halloween Fare.......2006-11-01
You can hear a constant improvement in the musical quality of Nox Arcana's CD. This one, particularly, is a big step over Necronomicon. Not that Necronomicon is bad, but Transylvania is really good.
I'm glad I found Nox Arcana (quite by accident, I did a search for Halloween on Amazon and this was one of the hits) they are a treasure.
Yet another great album!.......2006-08-11
Nox Arcana is truly a original band for the era. The music is never boring and you always find something new when listening to it that you may not have heard before. Vargo is a very gifted artist in all the work he does and I for one am glad he formed his own band. The creative work behind the cd's really comes through not just in the music but in the album designs. Midnight Syndicate lost one of the most creative person's behind their success, but by starting the band Nox Arcana at least none of the fans are suffering. Keep up the great work and I look forward to the next album.

Salute to America.......2006-07-27
Very similar in quality and music to I Love A Parade and a very upbeat reminder of why we are a patriotic nation. The arrangements and quality of the songs are great.
A good choice but..........2005-06-29
It is not the best CD that I have bought but it is an honest one. The orchestration is good, the choice of tunes is excellent and the tunes are well played. As you know, it is always difficult to say : I like it or I hate it because hearing a CD is a question of personal point of view. In my case, I may not say that I like it or I hate it, I prefer some other orchestration but it us a good CD.
Ho-Hum.......2005-06-08
I wanted some rousing marching music. This album is half asleep. The sound quality is poor. Apparently Mr. Williams writes better music than he conducts.
"Boston Pops".. Alway's do the Job!.......2001-10-03
John Williams/Boston Pops.. Salute to America.
And they do! They salute America! This is a wonderful C.D
Battle Hymn of the Republic, is great..
New York, New York, will bring tears to your eyes!
12 renditions in all..
All these are performed wonderfully, and well worth the money!
I would recommend this to anyone who loves patriotic music, it will stir the heart and soul of Americans....
Full-Spirited.......2000-09-02
I'm a classical music/opera person for the most part. But I find this CD entralling. Even the organization of the CD is ideal-almost like a symphony--with the rousing Candide Overture and the musical medleys at the beginning, the patriotic songs as the B section, and the Dixieland and other music from American musicals to finish up. And I particularly like the orchestration of the medleys. A wonderful CD.

Customer Reviews:
Eeww!.......2006-06-19
This is like the music to one of those theme park Celebrate America type shows. The musical arrangements have that hokey, somewhat dated, overly sweet and enthusiatic feel I hate. I thought I was getting the standard versions of these songs but what I got was the cruise ship extravaganza, yuck!
this land is your land.......2006-04-17
to think that "this land is your land" is a patriotic song is laughable at best, however is a common misconception of the song. you'd think that the creators of this cd would research the songs they put on the cd a little more, and find that "this land is your land" is actually a protest song (original lyrics contained lyrics such as "on that sign there it said private property/but on the other side it didn't say nothing/that side was made for you and me", an obvious attack on capitalism".
America's Favorite Patriotic Songs.......2005-09-30
The title says it all.
Good old fashioned "goose bump" music.
Great Place to Start a Patriotic Music Collection.......2002-09-12
This choral collection features a majority of the best known and loved patriotic songs from our country's history. I'll admit I was a little leery of the choral part when I first picked it up, but I've found that, for the most part, it works really well.
It especially stands out on the acappella version of "My Country 'Tis of Thee." It's absolutely stunning. Other fun songs are "This Land is Your Land," which I really wasn't familiar with before I bought this, and a personal recent favorite song "God Bless the USA." I love having the "Armed Forces Medley" on here so I can learn these songs. And the instrumental arrangement on "Stars and Stripes Forever Medley" at the end has me taping my toes every time I hear it.
There are a couple missteps, however. I've heard better versions of "The Star Spangled Banner." I think one reason I'm disappointed with it is that they only include one verse. I love the other verses of our national anthem, and wished they'd included at least one more since they included multiple verses of all the other songs. Also, "If My People" and "God Save America," while find songs, just don't seem to fit here.
Overall, you can't go wrong with this collection. I'm just starting to look for patriotic music, and this has been a wonderful first CD.

Album Description
Featuring worship leader Robin Mark, this eagerly anticipated sequel to the best-selling REVIVAL IN BELFAST was recorded at the St. Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh, Northern Ireland. Hailed as the birthplace of European Christianity, its setting was a perect foundation for an album seeking a rebirth of passion for God in the midst of troubled times. Containing new songs of worship like "Come Heal This Land," "Lord Have Mercy," and "Take Us To The River," it is filled with messages of forgiveness and healing. Robin's remarkable vocals combined with singable Irish melodies make for a refreshing album with a strong message of hope.
Customer Reviews:
Come Heal This Land by Robin Mark.......2007-01-20
Robin Mark is a worship leader in Ireland, his music is very devotional
Beautiful.......2006-03-16
What is a missionary? Many believers define the term as referring to one who, through arduous toil, takes the Gospel to a jungle tribe in a third-world nation. Many fail to see the harvest that could, through perseverance, be brought about in the United States, Great Britain, and mainland Europe. Robin Mark seems to understand this truth. His CD "Come Heal This Land" captures an unquenchable hunger for revival throughout the world--from Western scientists and linguists who claim that reason can save them to impoverished nations that have never before heard the message of salvation.
The second track, "Take Us to the River", aludes to Revelation throughout. "Glory to the Lord Our God" is a beautiful, modern interpretation of Psalm 24. "In the Beauty of Holiness" is one of my favorite songs. I cannot here resist the temptation to type the lyrics to the chorus:
"So I'll pause at Your gates once more
As my heart and my spirit soar
And I'll wish I could love you more
My God and my King."
The other songs, too, are beautiful--particularly the slower tracks. Robin Mark's passion for revival is clear and fervent. I would recommend this edifying album to anyone with a heart for the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Best Worship Music - All Three Albums.......2005-12-05
Since first hearing Robin Marks' music in his first album, I have eagerly awaited his newer albums. Each one has been as good if not better than the previous albums. Wonderful to listen to and to sing along to. Wonderful praise music!
God bless Robin Mark.......2005-05-20
Robin has inspired our family with his music and we thank God for his passion for his saviour and inspiration to write such glorious songs of praise. This CD is exceptional. We loved Revival in Belfast expecially due to Days of Elijah. We love Come Heal this Land even more. "Take us to the River" is wonderful to sing along with and "Ancient Words" really makes us pause and reflect on our focus of the day.
We will never forget the opportunity we had to sing along with Robin in Belfast PEI and to talk with him.
he's done it again.......2005-03-01
Another treasure from Robin Mark, for the glory of our Lord and master. "Lord Have Mercy," and "forever," were also done by Michael W. Smith--and both to sensational effect. Our church does "Forever,"--not often enough. And what can be said of the title track "Come Heal this Land?" It's not just northern Ireland that he means--it's all this fractured world, with all its lost souls toddling towards destruction. That's who wants healing, and Robin Mark can approac our Lord and ask his mercy and be heard--like Michael W. Smith, but with a deeper, more booming barritone. If Roger Whitaker did Christian music--and what wouldn't we give to have him do so--maybe Robin Mark would have an equal. but alas.

The search for solace involves a difficult reconciliation of conflicting emotions, pitting one's need to grieve at odds with a heavy-hearted realization that life, however diminished, must go on. Using an audio palette of grays and dark blues, Michael Hoppe offers Solace as a balm for the soul during such times, "where the dark clouds in life give way to the glow of eternal hope and peace." The clouds never fully lift during the 12 tracks of Solace, which appear to progress in a stages-of-mourning manner. The effect can be moving, even lovely (particularly the grand orchestral opener, "The Majestic Land," one of four splendid selections involving the Prague Symphony -- recorded remotely via an Internet link, of all things). The prevailing mood is melancholy but not quite maudlin; two angelic arias ("Pie Jesu," which Hoppe had written for the memorial service of his wife's mother, and "Lachrymosa") are tearless, reverent expressions that aspire to the divine. The closing moment of "The Parting," a retooled but otherwise ordinary composition from 1986 that involves Vangelis, finally yields a sense of closure. For those in a state of bereavement, Hoppe's Solace may offer you comfort. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Inspirational.......2007-01-16
First track could be a county's anthem, very nicely performed. The remainder of album is inspiring, and much like Hoppe's other works.
Gorgeous Music to Work and Meditate to.......2006-10-19
I am seldom so overwhelmed with the beauty of a piece of music that I'm moved to tears. This does just that to me. Each track is as meaningful and beautiful wrought. Powerful stuff.
Heartbreakingly Beautiful.......2006-09-16
Michael Hoppe is a treasure. From his earliest recordings until his latest, Requiem, I have never been disappointed. Solace does not have one track that you will skip over. The soloists, where there are vocals, are superb and speak straight to the heart. Occasionally we are given a musical gift that lasts us a lifetime. This is one of those gifts.

A New Age Gem.......2005-09-05
This is a beautiful collection of New Age music that should please fans of the genre. Perfect for listening alone or with others. The music is soothing at times, but at others, is fervent and burning.
The first piece of this recording ("The Majestic Land") is like a throwback to "The Big Country." This being my first impression, I thought every other piece was going to sound like movie soundtracks. But no, the second piece proved me wrong. "So You" was like an unworded song of love, eternity, and promise. By the time of the third piece, you'll be burning with the passion and desire of the strings in "Romance for Violin and Orchestra." The pieces afterwards more or less delve into that rich and sometimes otherworldly territory that is New Age, reaching again into a certain height with "Jude's Theme" and "Nimbus," then coming into a prayerful respite in "Pie Jesu." These pieces are what really make up the theme of "Solace."
The last piece called "The Parting," is a very good piece for dispersing all that left-over burden we accumulated in a day's time. The first time I heard it, and afterwards, I felt like I was in the calm, sunny waters of the Greek sea, and swimming among majestic whales!
There is something for everyone in this recording. Solace does not necessarily mean to be alone, and the music here proves that it can be listened to in the solace of lovers, or a dear friend.
Fly.......2004-03-06
Fly away through the sky and let your imagination get a way from materialistic life. This CD is very Relaxing and Soothing especially when you listen to it outside maybe in the park. Have a nice time.

Customer Reviews:
Selections from the Greatest Voice of the Last Hundred Years.......2007-03-13
Mario Lanza was, arguably, the greatest tenor and greatest singer of this and the last century. It is difficult to appreciate him without listening to a variety of selections. This collection has some of his best recordings and exhibits the versatility and variety that he possessed that permitted him to "crossover" from opera to popular music with a ease.
I recommend this for those who already know Lanza to some extent but want to go into more depth and understand his marvelous skills.
A Must Have .......2006-12-12
I had forgotten what a beautiful voice Mario Lanza had. This collection contains opera and pop selections that exhibit the power yet sweetness of his voice. Fortunately, we have his CD's and videos so we can remember and listen to his gorgeous, vibrant voice and personality. I highly recommend this collection along with his wonderful movies, especially The Great Caruso.
The Mario Lanza Collection.......2006-11-10
I had forgotten just how beautiful a voice from the past was. It is a wonderful collection
The MARIO LANZA Collection.......2006-08-19
extract from most important LPs. Brilliant sound quality from RCA. Also included are soundtrack recordings from some of his movies. The are several reissues from Mario Lanza but this one is a collection you should have.
WONDERFUL!!!!!.......2005-10-19
The Mario Lanza Collection is a three CD set and it has 61 songs and they all sound great. The mastering on this set is excellent and the song choice is very very good. It would have been perfect if they added a forth CD with more Arias, Italian songs and Sacred Arias. BUT still this set is a great introduction to Lanza. Lanza's voice was powerful and beautiful; if you are a fan of great singing, you will love Lanza. Highlights on this CD set are; Be my Love, Because your Mine, Serenade, With a Song in My Heart, Temptation, The Lord's Prayer, Ciribirbin, O Solo Mio, Ariverducci Roma, and on and on. They are many many great songs on this set, and I highly recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
They Still Sound Wonderful!.......2007-03-16
This is a great folk-music CD. It is actually a live concert, recorded just a few years ago. Unlike so many "reunion" concerts, these acts feature the original voices and arrangements, and it sounds great! It's amazing that these people are performing 40 years after the songs were popular, and they still sound terrific! Even the Smothers Brothers repeat their unique humor... I had forgotten how wonderfully crazy they were! This is a very enjoyable trip down memory lane.

I came here to review the 2-CD set called "This Land is Your Land" that I got from PBS when this concert aired. Well, this LOOKS like the same CD, but is it? It's got the same cover and it's put out by Rhino, but my copy has another song between "Greenfields" and "This Land is your Land" -- and that's the song that made me want the CD in the first place. The missing song is called "Just Americans" by Randy Sparks and the Minstrels. When I heard this song on PBS, I literally cried. It's the only one of the plethora of "post-9/11" songs that I can relate to, because the words celebrate the diversity of America rather than assuming you have to be a redneck in a pickup truck in order to be patriotic. It even makes specific mention of Jewish Americans like me: "We wear yarmulkes and turbans and occsionally a crown, we wear straw hats and ballcaps when the home team is in town...") In my opinion, this song ranks right up there with "This Land Is Your Land" as the one of the finest of modern folksongs. It was also a high point of this concert.
So where is that song on this CD? Is the omission of "Just Americans" a typo here, or was it edited (censored?) out of later editions? For that matter, if this is a single CD "short version" of the PBS concert, then I would recommend getting the full 2-CD set instead. Mine has a total of 25 songs, including my favorite, "Just Americans."
Great music... disappointing package.......2003-07-10
The television show on Public TV was great, and this CD is just a part of the show that was recorded live in 2002. Although most of the songs on the CD were originally done in the 60's, many of the songs sound like the originals. If you enjoy 60's folk music, you won't be disappointed with the music on this CD. Unfortunately, the packaging is poor. Other than the list of artists and their songs, there are no liner notes or pictures of the artists. The inside of the booklet is completely blank. I've seen better booklets in budget CDs, and this was no cheap CD (costwise, at least). Rhino records usually has excellant liner notes. If the CD would have had a decent booklet with info about the artists and the songs, I would have given the package 5 stars. At least the music is great.
