About the Artist
David Houde is an accomplished singer, with performance credits that include master chorale, orchestral, and recital work. He has performed with the New York University Chorale (soloist, European tour); the Handel Society of Dartmouth College (Carnegie Hall tour with the New York Pops Orchestra, Skitch Henderson conducting), and the Minnesota Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Eiji Oue. In addition to classical repertoire, David has extensive performance credits in theater and studio work.

Product Description
"The Painter's Eye" is an intimate project, a collection of ten original songs from an important new voice. As a songwriter, David Houde (pronounced "Hood") draws on varied musical influences; seventies folk masters like Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, and James Taylor were key influences on several tracks, with other songs owing a debt to the jazz world and Houde's extensive background in classical music. At times sweet and simple, with acoustic folk guitar and lovely harmonies, and at times dramatic, with soaring cello, piano, and David's clear tenor voice in rich orchestrations, "The Painter's Eye" is an entirely holistic piece despite its changes in musical coloring. David enlisted Emmy-award winning engineer Fred Vogler ("The Barbra Streisand Tour, 1994") to capture the varied nuances of the music, a challenge met with the addition of Fred's considerable talents.

These are songs of love and family. Children, parents, brothers and sisters. Friends. Lovers. All are the fabric of the work, all have a story to tell. In "Moments Of Grace," the cd's first track, Houde sings of fleeting moments that define who we are, from 'hearing a story on daddy's knee' to 'the nights you dreamed of how you would wed.' In "This Child" a baby is welcomed into the world, not just by a parent, but by a community, a 'circle of brightly colored light.' The heartache of love lost is poignantly explored in "Silent Prayer," and in the title track, "The Painter's Eye," David asks art, and in turn, the artist, to step in with answers to the questions that can otherwise be too painful to ask.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Gift for a Family-time: Marriage; New Baby etc.......2001-01-30

This beautifully worked CD is one that would be a perfect gift for someone who is getting married, celebrating an anniversary, Mother's Day, or adding a child to the family through birth or adoption. The words of the exquisite songs are beautifully performed by the artist-composer and the arrangements are perfect!!!! I have played it over many times as I sit with my family on a Sunday morning reading the newspapers or as I wind-down from the day's work. It is always powerful, yet surprisingly soothing. I know that it will be a gift I give to those I care about.

5 out of 5 stars The Painter's Eye.......2001-01-16

This piece of art is not only musically beautiful, but photographically unique in a very touching way. It's beauty will bring honor to the musical world. Listening to David Houde's first work has been a privilege to the spirit and the heart. It is with true awe of talent that I am writing this review. He not only captures the heart of family life, but that of a love life, with its losses, lessons, and its sheer magic. It makes you remember how wondrous life can be. What he has brought to the piano, with his tenor voice joining in, is only the best of what someone will seek out when they need a MOMENT OF GRACE! I sincerely hope that this project will bring the masses to David Houde's musical talent and the sheer joy of listening to his ability, not only as a musician, but as a performer.

5 out of 5 stars TAPESTRY OF AN ARTIST.......2001-01-14

AFTER ONLY AN INITIAL SAMPLING OF HIS WORK, IT IS APPARENT THAT DAVID HOUDE IS TAKING A PERMANENT PLACE IN THE MUSIC WORLD. AFTER FURTHER REVIEW, IT MUST BE SAID THAT DAVID WEAVES WONDERFUL IMAGERY THROUGHOUT THIS ALBUM. EACH SONG TAKES THE LISTENER ON A FURTHER EMOTIONAL AND VISUAL JOURNEY WITH THIS IMMENSELY STRONG TENOR, PROVING THAT THIS IS JUST THE FIRST OFFERING IN WHAT WOULD HOPE TO BE A BRILLIANT CAREER FOR THIS CLASSICALLY-TRAINED ARTIST.

5 out of 5 stars Extaordinary new voice.......2001-01-02

David Houde's pure voice captures beautifully the emotional tapestry woven throughout this CD. The song 'This child',is particularily poignant. The love that is expressed for this child is what one hopes for all children to recieve as they enter this world. It spoke volumes to me about my love for my babies. Be on the cutting edge and buy this CD today. Just beautiful.
