Joan Morris and her husband, composer William Bolcom, take another trip back to the early days of Broadway musicals and earlier. In the same groove as their earlier albums, After the Ball and Vaudeville. A great addition to your collection if you love this kind of music, performed the way it was meant to be heard.

Back in 1974, mezzo-soprano Joan Morris, and her husband, William Bolcom, recorded "After the Ball," a collection of turn-of-the-century popular songs, some of which hadn't been recorded since the early part of the century, if ever. Now, after bringing their talents to the music of Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, and most recently, Vincent Youmans, they return to the turn of the century with this delightful collection. Note: no compromises were made with the original turn-of-the-century lyrics; this CD is not for those obsessed with "political correctness." But then, those obsessed with political correctness generally don't have much taste, anyway.

Perhaps I should start by admitting a bias: Many years ago, lying on Boston's grassy Esplanade by the Charles River on warm summer nights, I learned what a symphony orchestra should sound like, with Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. Those concerts were free; these seven compact discs are not--not quite. But for any lover of light classical music, they are certainly one of the best buys available. The orchestra (essentially the Boston Symphony) is one of the world's greatest; the music, from Smoke Gets in Your Eyes to the Goyescas Intermezzo and Ride of the Valkyries is instantly enjoyable and permanently valuable; the conductor is at the same time genial and exacting, convinced that any music you play, no matter how frivolous, deserves the best you can give it. --Joe McLellan

Now, if you are a music-lover, and you like The Boston Pops & Arthur Fiedler. You should get it as soon as posible.

Definitly one of my favorite classical CD's....has a bit of everything, and it's all extremely well played and recognizable. I never go on car trips without it with me. If you buy only one classic CD (set), THIS IS IT!

On paper, a six volume cd of the "best of undergroud" rappers representing every area of the country sounds great. In the stereo, however, it just falls short. First of all there is waaaay too much no limit stuff. The last time I checked, Master P wasn't anywhere near the best that hip hop has to offer. There are far too many songs on this six disc set that are just filler. Some of the best tracks are those by E-40 and Suga T. In short, no true head will nod to these trax cause they ain't bangin'. To all those Versace and Cristal, make money wannabees and the bout it bout it rowdy bounce fools that buy no Limit. this is for you

I HAVE LISTENED TO THIS 6 CD SET AND ONE ARTIST ON THERE BY THE NAME OF "SWEET" CAUGHT MY ATTENTION... THE SONG IS " G~RIDHA " I JUST WANT TO GIVE THAT BRUTHA HIZ PROPZ ON THE CD...DOES "SWEET" HAVE ANY OTHER SONGS OUT THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF ?? I'D LIKE TO HEAR ANYTHANG BY HIM.... HE HAS A DIFFERENT KIND OF SOUND AND I THINK HE'S GOT HELLA TALENT!

I don't understand why any Sable didn't receive more radio play. Her voice is outstanding. I had the pleasure of hearing her sing Amazing Grace a cappella and I was mystified by the purity and power of her voice. Old Times' Sake is packed full of hits. Her remake of Love Come Down is great. No more is soulful. Just buy the CD and hear for yourself. I've had the CD since '94 and my husband and I still listen to it.

    This is a record that we all look for. Intense, musical and engaging. Where is the art of songwriting progressing to?
    Getting Closer and The Grey are the best examples of songwriting that I have heard in quite some time.
