Editorial Reviews
From the Artist
This CD is a project that spanned over many years. Some selections like "Time To Move Along" and "Mirror Mirror" go back as far as my college days in Winona, Minnesota. The songs on the CD represent my favorites to this day. Because of the intimate nature of the music in relation to my life, I wanted to do as much of the work on the CD as I could without the help of others. Beyond the drummer and bass player, I had some friends help with a few songs. All the guitar and vocal work is my own. "Moment Of Truth" means many things to me. The making of this CD had always been a life goal and I'm very pleased with the end result. Many defining "Moments of Truth" come into our lives each day. What we choose to do with them defines who we are.

They represent his journey through relationships, struggles, personal observations and his search for truth.

Album Description
MOMENT OF TRUTH is a giant leap forward in his career. Capturing all the power and energy of his legendary live performances, the new CD is the most guitar-driven, aggressive studio recording he has ever made. His vocals reach new heights of soulfulness and expressiveness; his guitar playing is ferocious and relentless, but when the mood calls for it, gentle and moving. But what really sets the album apart is the depth of Ellis' songwriting. The material deals in matters both personal and universal and runs the gamut of human emotions.
MOMENT OF TRUTH is Ellis' most wide-ranging and inspired recording.

Smokin!!!!!.......2007-08-01
Having never listened to Tinsley Ellis (I must be living under a rock) before, I was blown away. He has an awesome sound that reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Great vocals and guitar. Can't wait to buy more of his music.
RICK SHAQ GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "TINSLEY'S BLUES GUITAR SLINGING, IS AT THE TOP OF HIS GAME!".......2007-07-12
You'll never know, how happy I am to write this review on Tinsley's new CD. Tinsley, has until now, in my opinion, been a juke joint, club level, blues southern rock performer. But his performance on this CD, is first class, and in my eyes, Tinsley has now moved to center stage! As "Shaq's, The King Of The World Blues Reviewer's" loyal fans, know, I have described Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert Kings, unique string play, as "bending the strings", and I have called Buddy Guy's "snapping the strings". Well, Tinsley's string work on this CD, is so powerful, that on some songs, it sounds like he's got rocket engines attached to his guitar! I am officially christening, Tinsley's string sound as: "HEAVY STRING BLUES REVERBERATION!" A number of months ago, I was complimented by a Boston reviewer, because I didn't just give away 5 star ratings, like they were going out of style. So believe me, this is a 5 star rating. As Shaq always says: "You can't get the blues in 3-4 minutes!" This CD is loaded with two 6 minute plus songs, four 5 minute plus songs, and three 4 minute plus songs. Another area that gives me additional pleasure, is when an artist performs songs that he has written himself. It just gives the song a little more feeling and meaning to me. Tinsley has written 10 of the 12 songs on this masterpiece. Total running time 59 minutes. (NOTE TO AMAZON: I think it would be a valuable addition to your listings if you listed the lengths of the songs and CD.) In summary: I recommend this highly, and I hope for Tinsley's benefit, and mine, and all his new fans, that this CD is going to create, that he keeps releasing many more CD's of this quality, in the very near future. Welcome to center stage Tinsley!
MAY BE HIS BEST.......2007-07-12
Before this offering, I thought that STORM WARNING was Tinsley's best. I may change my mind. I will have to listen to this one more. It is certainly his loudest: listen to the samples. But loud does not mean better. Now someone like Walter Trout sounds great with his metal blues/rock sound, but, I think it hurts Ellis' style: his past music has a lot of softer parts, like EARLY IN THE MORNING. You feel that they are trying too hard to, maybe, get the younger listeners interested. What I mean is that Tinsley's style is not heavy metal. But I am not complaining. Every song is very good to excellent. The material is typical Tinsley Ellis: Robert Cray soul blues, blues, and rock. TELL THE TRUTH, I first heard on Jonny Lang's first record. Maybe Ellis is returing the favor for Jonny using his outstanding song, A QUITTER NEVER WINS, although I don't know if Ellis wrote TELL THE TRUTH. A couple of numbers I remember liking on this disc are, BRINGING HOME THE BACON, and YOU'RE GONNA THANK ME. SHADOW OF DOUBT is acoustic, and reminds me of Alan Wilson of Canned Heat. The audio quality is outstanding, although a little on the dead side. Tinsley's guitar playing is excellent but he seems to be rushing his notes. With some promotion, this release could put Tinsley into the big time.

JUST DID NOT DO IT FOR ME.......2007-03-01
now i admit, i love THE MILITIA. this is the song that i listen to this cd for. however, the rest of the album feels just so plain jane. i prefer their earlier material. that stuff was sharper for my taste. i do like their post MOMENT OF TRUTH stuff though with the exception of this album that proceeded this, THE OWNERZ. for me, gang starr is best when guru just lays down that deep gravy river flow to a dope, looped out track. if you like it, cool, but like i said, the earlier ones are the ones i put in my cd or cassette player.
Above the Clouds.......2007-02-23
I checked this out because I think Above the Clouds is one of the dopest tracks I've heard. Truth be told the rest of the album isn't close to that track. Sometimes Guru's lyrics are a bit whack-inspirational. They work really well when they fit into the beats nicely. Otherwise his lack of range is exposed. There are a couple throwaways like "the mall," but overall the production is good and everyone into hip hop should know "Above the Clouds."
Modern-day classic........2006-11-30
Gang Starr were one of the most critically-acclaimed, and recognized hip-hop groups in the golden-age of hip-hop, alongside acts like EPMD, Run-DMC, and Ultramagnetic MC's. The emcee/producer duo brought some of the most innovative music to come out of hip-hop's early stages, and attracted much praise from critics and fans alike. Although they didn't sell like a Public Enemy or an NWA, hip-hop heads and musical afficiandos alike knew that Gang Starr was the ****. However, they left the golden-age behind them after Hard To Earn, and went on a four year hiatus.
Within that time, Guru went virtually unnoticed, while DJ Premier built up his reputation with work on albums by the likes of Nas, Jeru The Damaja, Notorious B.I.G., and Jay-Z. He was acknowledged as one of the finest producers in the game, and everyone, underground and mainstream, wanted some Primo beats on their album. For good reason; I honestly can't acknowledge a single beat Primo's laced that has been, by any means, wack. He's not just consistent behind the boards, he's magnificent, and for the people that don't recognize Primo as one of hip-hop's finest beatsmiths, they quite honestly don't know a lot about hip-hop.
However, with Primo becoming such a high-profile producer, one had to question if he'd left Guru, and his Gang Starr roots behind him; well, Gang Starr returned in 1998, releasing arguably their finest album to date, Moment of Truth. Their sound had effortlessly evolved from golden-age pioneers, to modern-day hip-hop messiahs; at this point in time, they were both identified as two of the most influential figures in hip-hop's illustrious history. This album, Moment of Truth, only solidified their status further, and even pushed it a few notches above where they already were.
Guru's lyrics are still razor-sharp, and even if you dislike the King of Monotone's visceral flow, his words are sure to penetrate your mind, and keep you listening. Guru's mellow delivery is the perfect compliment to Primo's elegant beats, and together, the duo creates an album that, while shifting between dozens of moods, and concepts, is as cohesive as anything that's come before, or after it. There's twenty tracks on this album, and I can say without hesitation that each track is gold; something I don't believe I've ever been able to say about an album with such an exceedingly long track-list. There isn't a single misstep taken by either Guru or Primo, and no track overshadows the next, or falls below the standard set by the previous track; this is not just consistently dope, but as flawless as a hip-hop album can essentially be.
Guest appearances are brilliant, coming from the likes of the Wu-Tang's verbal assailant, Inspectah Deck, the rowdy MOP, the angriest emcee since Ice Cube, Freddy Foxx, or the Houston don, Scarface; each guest delivers a verse alongside Guru, and the chemistry, amazingly, is there on each track. Introspective cuts, such as "Moment Of Truth" and "Betrayal" make up a good majority of the album, while the rest is dedicated to lesser emcees who wanna step to Guru; however, Guru is able to switch up the topics so seamlessly that they never grow tedious.
This album may've come out in the Shiny Suit era, but Gang Starr, as expected, didn't confirm to these ridiculous mainstream standards; they just kept doing their thing, and that's why Gang Starr has remained one of the most influential groups in hip-hop's history, and seminal albums like this continue to drop from them. Pick it up, because it doesn't get any iller.
Gang Starr On Top Of Their Game (Rating: 10 out of 10- -5 stars).......2006-11-08
Back in 1998, fans were highly waiting for another Gang Starr album. And they got a pretty good one to have too. This album showed Premo and Guru at the peak of their game, back with their fifth album "Moment Of Truth". Pretty much everyone has stated the main points of this album, so there is not really much I can add that has not been said already.
To start with Guru. He really stepped his lyrics up from the "Jazzmatazz II" album as well as from the "Hard To Earn" album, and it shows in songs like the well known "You Know My Steez", and the title track "Moment Of Truth" realizing the truth behind many things going on in life. Some people don't like Guru, because of his monotone voice. Personally, I have no problem with that, because his voice fits well into the production of this album. An example of what I'm saying is on the song "Robin Hood Theory".
As for DJ Premier (Primo), what can I say? He's a genius. His beats are always on point. He always knows to use the correct drums and the correct drum pattern. "B.I Vs. Friendship" and "The Militia" are sone of those beats that he has been known for making. "Work" and "Loyality" is some of those beats that I'm feeling right now.
Guestwise never fails also. Many guest appearances are from the Gangstarr Foundation ('98). M.O.P. comes in and drops some rememerable verses on the track "B.I. Vs. Friendship". Feddie Foxx and Big Shug hook up with them for the song "The Militia". Krumbsnatcha comes in for the song "Make 'Em Pay". And I have to say that each guest artist brings their A game on this album, unlike those albums that could have been classics, but some of the guests came off wack. You will not find this here.
Well to some people it's a classic. To me there is one minor flaw on this album, and that is the out of place song "Next Time" towards the end of the album. It's not a bad track, but to me it just seems out of place (it's put between two mellow sounding tracks). Other than that I give Guru and Primo what they deserved on this album. If you want to hear Gang Starr at their peak, then I highly recommend that you snatch this one up. This duo has always came with some good music, but this album proved that are one of the greatest hip hop acts in the game. 20 tracks on this album, for a cheap price is one you cannot deny. Word.

Favorite Tracks: You Kow My Steez, Robin Hood Theory, Work, Royality, JFK 2 LAX, Itz A Set Up, Moment Of Truth, B.I. Vs. Friendship, The Militia, My Advice To You, Make 'Em Pay, Betrayal,Rest In Peace.
P.S.- Somebody had a Listamania list (I can't remember who) that said on "Make 'Em Pay" that Krumbsnatcha said "Give a F like Pizza Hut/I gotta stay Noidid" that the Noid was a Domino's mascot and not Pizza Hut...thats a good call there.

Timely Truth.......2007-07-25
Definately inspired by God and anointed. After watching this young man on TBN, I jumped up and did some quick internet research, before purchasing MOMENT OF TRUTH for my sons. They love 'Testimony" and "Who's That." It has proved to be a catalyst in bringing us closer and forced me to stop and pay attention to what and who was speaking into their lives in my absence. I was officially a "cool mom" after buying this album. This must be THE best combination of solid biblical content, christian values, percussion and rap to date. Even the grandparents are seriously appreciative of this music. My parents are really, really old school christian folk, so it is no small thing when I say they approve of DA TRUTH 100%! We bought all 3 albums from AMAZON. I also had the opportunity to rock this CD on a 18hr road trip with 5 impressionable preteen boys in tow. It was a magnificent witnessing tool. They not only listened, but experienced a time of worship that came about after hearing this album. This was the highlight of the trip since the oldest 3 accepted Jesus Christ as their savior.
Big.......2007-03-26
I listened to this on my best friend's ipod. It was deep. At last a gospel rap album which is for real. Talking about real issues and mixing Christ and the scriptures into it properly. My favourite tracks were (in no particular order):
The Jesus Anthem, My Story, N.F.L and Fourplay.
Now I've gotta go and buy this myself lol. Bless
YUP.......2007-03-11
This is a another must have for gospel rap. Tight beats and preaching blend seemlessly in this CD.
Wow.......2006-09-13
What a debut! The way this dude puts words together is amazing, and he preaches Christ at the same time. Can't beat that! Great song and production quality. Definitely worth the purchase.

I cant get enough of this music its makes me feel great i can enjoy hiphop music while still praising our heavenly Father !!!

OK so there's no Jeff Lynn but..........2005-08-24
this is everybit as good as any elo album. Obviously Jeff Lynn's great song writing has rubbed off on Bevan and co. I only liked 2 songs really well on the previous album ELO pt II (honest men and for the love of a women) and 2 more were very good and the rest were mediacore. But on this, their second album there is really only one song I don't like, there are 5 awsome standouts and the rest are very good.
I would rank this album about 4th overall ELO and ELO related albums after 'Out of the blue', 'Zoom' and 'Earthrise' - Tandy & Morgan.
Nice try but you are no E.L.O........2005-07-10
I agree in whole with Mr. Rizzo, these guy's aren't ELO. It is obvious that Jeff made these guys what they once were but without him, they are desparate. I know it sounds harsh but it is deserving. By using the name Electric Light Orchestra they should be held accaountable and to the standards that have been set while Jeff was a part of (the soul of) the group. If they were calling themselves by another name, then I could maybe appreciate thier work but until then......Not a chance.
Should not be listed as "E.L.O.".......2005-01-21
The most important point of this review it to let you know that this band is not The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) and Amazon is doing a great disservice to its customers by labeling it as such. This is a band led by former ELO drummer Bev Bevan and at various times in its incarnation has had a variety of former members of ELO. They call themselves "Electric Light Orchestra Part 2", though the labeling of most of their projects do not always make that clear. If you are truly a fan of the unique ELO sound that carried through their albums of the early 70's and into the 80's (and can even be heard on 2001's Zoom) then you probably will not enjoy this. That is because the unique sound of ELO was created by, sung by, and produced by Jeff Lynne (who is not a part of this outfit). However, if all you ever liked about ELO was the melding of rock and strings then perhaps you will find some enjoyment in this. As a fan of ELO since discovering them at age 11 in 1979, I personally find this recording a disappointment. In fact, I find the whole "ELO part 2" project disappointing.
Moments of brilliance...and then there are other moments.......2004-11-20
MOMENT OF TRUTH is an improvement over ELO Part Two's first CD, and it contains several outstanding tracks. The personnel here make a stronger case for this project being associated with The Electric Light Orchestra, though, sadly, anything without Jeff Lynne is just not ELO. The orchestral interludes included are a nice thread, and reminiscent of the ELO classic ELDORADO. Sir Louis Clark's involvement, as well as that of Kelly Groucutt and Mik Kaminski and Bev Bevan help to beef up the sound and the quality here. Eric Troyer proves himself a fine tunesmith and vocalist, and Phil Bates provides a suitably rough "rawk" element. Things kick off strong with the "Overture" and into the first single, "Breakin' Down the Walls," which has an excellent cascading chorus. Troyer's "Power of a Million Lights" would have fit in nicely on any of the classic mid-period ELO albums with a great melody and spine-tingling arrangement. "One More Tomorrow" is a lovely, big ballad that hits all the high notes. So far, so good. However, "Don't Wanna" is a slight step down, a rather trite rocker followed by the less-than-memorable "Voices." Groucutt presents a lovely tale with "The Fox," a fine narrative of high drama that again recalls ELDORADO. Another strong cut is "Love or Money," a gutsy ballad. I really love "Blue Violin," but wish it were fleshed out into a full song; instead, it slips by all too quickly. Sadly, the band takes a major stumble with the utterly stupid "Whiskey Girls," which trots out an amazing number of bad rock n' roll cliches, lyrically and musically. Groucutt comes to the rescue with "Twist of the Knife," a melodic mid-tempo piece and the band ramps up the energy for "So Glad You Said Goodbye," which is not remarkable, but is at least passable. Overall, this could have been a much stronger CD had "Whiskey Girls" been axed and "Blue Violin" expanded. As it stands, there is a lot to like about it and I suppose I would actually give it 3.5 stars. Just be prepared to skip a couple of cuts.
Worth the money if you're an ELO fan!.......2004-03-10
If you are a longtime fan of ELO, you will recognize some of the members of ELO Part 2 at the time this album was recorded: Bev Bevan (ELO's drummer); Kelly Groucutt (ELO's bass player); Mik Kaminski (ELO's violinist); and Louis Clark (the man who wrote the string and choral arrangements for ELO and the conductor of the symphony with whom ELO recorded its classic albums ["Eldorado" through "Discovery"]). Plus, this album features something that many of the later ELO albums lacked: a sense of fun and adventure!
This album is a must have for any real fan of ELO.

Album Description
Formed in May 2004, THICK AS BLOOD began as seven members forging ahead with a new band that will continue the tradition of South Florida Straight Edge. Harrowing vocals coupled with pummeling breakdowns will leave the listener longing for more. Their convictions infused with influences from today's heavy hitters such as HATEBREED, TERROR, and SWORN ENEMY will make sure they are a staple in today's hardcore scene. Since their inception, THICK AS BLOOD has been making waves not only at home, but on their lengthy tours across the East Coast. They have shared the stage with the likes of EVERGREEN TERRACE, UNTIL THE END, HOODS, and many more. THICK AS BLOOD has one goal in mind, and that is to get their music out to as many people as possible, while trying to be the best at what they do. In 2007, this seven piece outfit will be releasing their debut full length for Eulogy Recordings. Their posterity not only holds new material and extensive tour dates across the U.S., but a drive and will to push towards the top. One thing is certain; the future is bright for THICK AS BLOOD.

c-bo is a west coast legend and killa tay is cool too. yukmouth is all over this joint so i dont know why the dont list him as a main artist on the album but whatever... if you a fan of hardcore west coast street sh*t then cop this!
Solid album from Bo Loc & Tay - 4.5 stars.......2006-04-07
C-Bo is back again for about his 5th album in the last 3 years, this time with homeboy Killa Tay (who I've heard on over half a dozen of C-Bo's albums and never thought he was anything special). I have to admit I ws about to give up on his newer albums (this is the 16th album of his I own - 13 solo's and 3 group albums), but this is definitely his best album in the last 4 years. Only 12 songs, and C-Bo & Killa Tay are on each one, they have guests on 8 of the 12. Of the 12, 1 is a Classic, 9 are good and 2 are ok, none I skip over. Production is very good for 3 people I never heard of. Steve Vicious does 6 songs, Batkave does 2 and Cricet does 4. A nice album for their fans to have and better then most of his work lately.
#1 - 8 (f/ I-Rocc -- nice beat)
#2 - 8.5 (f/ Swoop G -- good beat)
#3 - 10 (f/ Tha Realest -- tight beat)
#4 - 9 (another good beat)
#5 - 8.5 (f/ Mitchy Slick & The Realest -- tight beat)
#6 - 8.5 (f/ Yukmouth -- nice beat)
#7 - 8
#8 - 8 (f/ Yukmouth)
#9 - 8 (f/ Smigg Dirtee)
#10 - 8 (f/ Yukmouth)
#11 - 7.5 (about how 911 is ajoke)
#12 - 6.5

Its aight. That's all........2006-03-25
Well I just checced this CD out and it's aight. C-Bo and Killa Tay are both good, but Killa Tay is gettin kinda repetitive and C-Bo is runnin out of fire too. Get C-BO Tales from the Crypt or Killa Tay Mr. mafioso, their two best solo efforts instead. There are a couple tight traccs on this one but overall it didn't impress me too much. The beats/production were a little too boring for me to really ride out to this one. It probably sounds better when you're drunk but my first impression is that this CD could've been better and they probably cranked it out pretty fast cuz Killa Tay's solo album just dropped too. That one is better than this, too.. "Flood the Market".. checc it out instead of this one too.
All in all this one would be low on my recommendation list.. but it's not bad.
OFF THE CHAIN WIT IT.......2006-03-22

Early Bogguss.......2006-08-17
I'm a huge fan of all of Suzy's work, but this is mainly slow, almost traditional country style and her weakest release, thus no hits off this one I believe. Even her weakest is very entertaining though. Worth the $2!

DID NOT RECEIVE WHAT THEY DESERVED!!!.......2007-04-10
I Have Been A DJ for 30 years and I have loved this album since it was released in 1978. It's very hard to find an album that you can enjoy all the songs!
One of the best vocal & music arrangements from th late 70's. This group did not receive the recognition it deserved. If you love Disco & not just a beat with voices, this is a great CD to buy! ENJOY!!!
