nice enough.......2007-08-02
relaxing stuff, averagely executed. listened to it twice, then off to a dusty shelf it went.
A Darkened homage.......2004-12-31
On first listening to this album, I was apprehensive. I am a fan of the Darkness, and believe them to be a ground breaking band. Back around the late 70's, music took a tangent. It went off into a strange land where fully grown adults wore clothes too big for them, and listened endlessly to pre-fabricated music. The Darkness are taking up from where the likes of Queen and AC/DC left off.
I was worried that the combination of the emotional strings could not quite leash the power and soul of The Darkness; that classic players could not translate thier power. On hearing the album, I realised something: Much alike permission to land, this too is ground breaking. It is the soft carresing hand of classical music reaching out to the arms of today. A bridge between the expert fingers of the voilin to the guitar. In more plainer terms, I was wrong.
The take on it is absolutely fantastic. Not only does it ensoul permission to land with the sensual sounds of the strings, but also manages to keep with the fun and excitement that The Darkness have brought to modern day music. An absolute must for any Darkness fan, or anyone wanting some real fun put back into thier ears. I myself can turn on any one of these pieces and float away into another level of adoration for music. This album truly shows the abilities music has to move you, it shows how music can be enjoyed and shows a true talent I have not seen for a very, very long time.

Someone who actually performs and writes all of their own songs...a rare find today, and always an accomplishment worthy of respect. This writer has a rare talent. His songs all are very different, yet when you hear them, you know immediately who you are listening to. Just like James Taylor and John Denver. They had their own style...and Doug certainly has his and it is unique. When I heard the John Denver tribute, I got an eerie feeling I was actually hearing John. Doug sounds amazingly similar yet it is obvious it is not contrived. I have never heard a more beautiful and magical tribute to John. This song makes the other attempts I've heard trite by comparison. I recommend this CD for anyone. It's kid friendly and I've used it's gentle ballads to put my kids to sleep. Enjoy!
A mesmerizing tribute to John Denver.......2001-01-25
So why hasn't this guy and this song taken every radio station in the country? Or why on earth haven't THEY taken HIM?! There isn't a bad song here. These are great Nashville songs with slick production, yet they aren't arranged like every other formula country song out there with the tiring pedal steel fills. This is original stuff and it's good. There's even some contemporary Christian/country here. After listening to "Fly-A Tribute To John Denver," I found I was in a trance-like state and didn't remember exactly what is was I just heard..but I could have sworn John himself was there. If you like ballads and you don't mind shedding a few tears, you'll very much enjoy this album. I never knew country could sound good without an electric guitar and a pedal steel..but this guy manages to pull it off.
