About the Artist
John Larkin teaches genetics and does research at Louisiana State University, and has played fingerstyle and flat-picked acoustic guitar for 27 years in styles ranging from country blues to contemporary fingerstyle and jazz. He mostly listens to international of all types. Asghar Naqvi, the drummer, has played in several rock and jazz bands around Baton Rouge, teaches drums, and has the most performance experience of the group. He is Pakistani-American, and knows some Pakistani drumming as well. He has recently started medical school in New Orleans. Ozan graduated from LSU with a Masters in Petroleum Engineering in May, 2000, and has returned to Turkey to work with an oil company, although he is a truly incredible musician. His voice is at least as good as his saz playing!
Product Description
We play a unique hybrid of Turkish folk music and contemporary American folk music. About a third of our songs are traditional Turkish songs, and the remainder of our songs are original. Our sound results from blending the sounds of the saz, a Turkish long-necked lute, with finger-style acoustic guitar, accented by Eastern and Western percussion styles. Our goal has been to respect our various musical heritages while exploring new frontiers.
