Sweet Sweet Songs.......2005-09-26

I really enjoy listening to this singer. On this CD there are some exceptionally sentimental, sweet songs like "Love At The Five And Dime" and "More Than A Whisper." The latter is my favorite track on the CD: I hear feminine strength pushing through the sentimentality. Very charming. Some of the tracks are straight forward country and western music, like "Lookin' For The Time" which are not special to me. But I like these tracks too, they are mostly excellent for what they are.

I second all the other reviewers. To me, I find that this album puts Nancy Griffith in an exclusive class among the very finest of songwriters of our time. "Ponchartrain" does something few writers can do: write eloquently about the love of place, and to do it with melody that carries the words as freely as the spirit in those words. I WANT to see Lake Ponchartrain someday because of this song. There is so much going on in these lyrics... setting the scene with that other French-American locale, Montreal, and, like a lover who finds absence makes the heart grow fonder, realizes she must go back. In short, a simple sounding tune that is layered with a lot more than meets the ear initially. "Love's Found A Shoulder", is like diamond-cutting-- so exact in word choice that that the reult is so beautiful you cant really see the effort that went into it. Some day, as others have said, I really hope this writer gets a wider respect. Those of us who have found Nancy Griffith's songs know already that we have a found a true musical artist. I simply don't know of a better songwriter, regardless of genre or gender.

One of those 'must have' albums.......2002-05-26

Every song on this album is a story that invites the listener in to become a part of it. The songs are well-written, well-sung and well-produced. But the most important part of this album is Nanci's heart. Her voice seems to echo what she feels in her heart when she sings..and this album is one of the best she's ever done.

This band gets in your head!.......2007-05-12

Every incarnation of this core pairing (Ray Ketchum and Renée LoBue now with Sean Eden and Barbara Endes) has had the same effect on me. The songs are following me around everywhere I go after just a couple of plays. Elk City's uncanny ability to mix infectious pop hooks with musically challenging arrangements produce a range of interesting tracks that grab you instantly and still challenge your expectations enough to give the tracks their timeless appeal. Beautifully haunting melodies from Renée and flawless musical craftsmanship by the band!

"New Believers" is a true work of art!

Don't sleep on this album plese .......2006-06-11

As the first two reviewers said before this album is not getting the amount of airplay it deserves. When I first bought it. I bought it mainly because of the title track then as I began to listen to it every song ministered to me in it's own way. My favorites have to be Welcome in your Presence, Still Here, God Can, You Survived, My father knows and you are holy.

This album deserves a lot more air play then it has been receiving. If you are looking for an album that really ministers to your soul then this should be in your collection. The title song itself is enough for you to purchase the album. I know that even though i went through a lot of hard times in my life, I am still a survivor. James fortune & Fiya keep ministering and letting God use you.

It seems like a lot of people are sleeping on this album. When I heard the title track "You Survived" on the radio over a year ago I knew I had to find out who the song was from. WHen I finally got the CD it really ministered to me from day one. It is such a uplifting album. I think it's great for young adults, well I think everyone can recieve something from this album. "God Can" is another uplifting track. Also, "I'm Still Here" really spoke to me, because I am a college student and it always seems like something, whether it be financially, in classes, with time or anything is going wrong.

Love the CD, I hope others will pick it up and I pray that is ministers to them like it did and continues to do with me.

Excellent album. Upbeat tracks and lively music for young christians as well as the young at heart.

Hottest gospel project since Tye.......2005-08-27

Wow. What more to say than wow. This album is mad hott. If you like gospel and you like some hott cats usin their musical gifts to the fullest, then this album is for you. Excellent vocal talents featuring Shawn McClemore, Nikki Ross Turneley, and EB layin down the 16 bars. This is one of the HOTTEST gospel joints goin on right now. Also in this album is the work of keyboard player Terrence Vaughn, who is a phenominal keyboard player. Terrence helped produce this album, and works with LL Cool J and Brent Jones. All the players on this CD are top notch musicians. Best of all James keeps it real and tells it like it is, his lyrics are down to earth and for real. You gotta love this CD for what it is, and for the incredible talent displayed throughout each track. Two hott tracks to check out are "Praise Anthem" and "Dance (remix)". The best thing I can compare FIYA to is Tye Tribbett and GA, or John P. Kee. If you like gospel this is the CD to get!!

No praise is too high........2005-05-10

This duo, Craig and Cynthia, are welcome to crash in my town anytime !

Hard to know what label to attach to this music -- Americana, Folk/Rock, Country/Folk or perhaps the latest manifestation of Cosmic American Music ? Thing is - I don't know if they are Americans but I'd like to think that the Great GP would have approved and loved this wonderful album.

The nearest stuff I could compare this music to is probably Buddy & Julie Miller's recent joint efforts. Beautiful harmonies; I could listen to Cynthia Frazzini's voice all day. Strong melodies; there's a quaint old word for you, but it's very apt, I assure you and not a weak track on the album. The only familiar song is a (good) version of that ancient Dylan classic Subterraenean Homesick Blues.

I've just ordered their only other album, 2003s "ROW" on the strength of this one; if it only turns out to be half as good, it'll still be worth it, I reckon.

Okay...so... Ska is not as popular as it was a few years ago. But I love this CD. I heard it a while ago and finally found it here on Amazon.

I am a pre-school teacher and the kids love it. We play it during games and while doing "Freeze Dance".

The music is lighthearted and fun. But the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that all the songs sound similar. Not alot of variety. They did do my favortie Christmas song, though... "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen".

Funny Christmas album.......2003-12-25

When I first saw this album among the other xmas albums.
I thought this has to be a Ska album so I listen to it.
and I got chocked it really good.
They have some famous xmas songs like deck the halls and jinglebells wich they play in skapunk beats.
They have also made some own xmas songs like birthday party.
It's about Jesus birthday party.
I really like this album it's good if you like Insyderz or Supertones.
Buy it.

I recieved this for christmas two christmas's ago and was very surprized at what i got. I had heared other songs from BOB such as Missions Trip To Mexico and Homeschool Girl which made me think bob would be something that i'ld like to have on my wish list. The cd is insainly lively *a good thing* and something great for those hyper christmas mornings. but i was sortof dissappointed that most of the songs sounded generally the same and in certain songs the girls tone wasn't very pleasent. don't get me wrong the cd was great what other group of 15-18 yr olds could make two cd's (20 songs) that are all ska and they sound somewhat different? if your a ska fan or punk fan go ahead you'll like it but if your more pickie and only like mxpx b/c they have some radio play b/c "it sounds like blink on that song" then this ones not for you ~:)

Spirit Lifting CD.......2005-04-07

I was blessed to see Ms. Waters in Dallas TX at the Potter's House when she came as a guest of Donald Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers. He introduced her as a close friend. She sang 'Uzziah'. He then encouraged her to sing 'Victory'. The song resonated in my soul so I was sure to find the CD when I returned home. This CD has blessed me for the past 3 years. Every song takes me one step closer to the Father. I've listened to the CD on the way to work and at my desk. I was led to listen to it last week. Later when reading my e-mails, I learned that Brenda has been gathered to her people. Her voice is indeed a gift to all of us who have heard her and continue to be fed by her CD. If you don't have it, I would get it while it is still available. It will lift up your soul whenever you are afflicted with the spiritual blahs. I thank God that I was blessed to see her sing in person and I thank him again for the CD.

My condolences goes out to Hedrick (Brenda's daughter) and to the family of Mrs. Waters, who passed away March 17,2005 which was 2 years to date from my father's death. The gospel world is saddened at the loss, but Heaven is overjoyed to gain a soldier winning the battle. I remember Brenda when I was in my early teens. She used to come to North Carolina and do workshops as well as just come to visit a group that my father sang with called the Bethel Male Chorus who, in their time, was one of the local elite gospel groups. I remember her sense of humor, yet seriousness when it came to singing for Lord. I remember one time I was in a rehearsal she was teaching. I was talking and not listening and she called me out...my father's name was Eddie and she would refer to me as "lil eddie" Being so young, I was embarrassed and a bit upset at her for chastising me in front of all those people, but she never apologized. Later that night when it was time to perform she saw me and gave me a kiss on my cheek and said "lil eddie I know you mad at me but I would rather that than God not being pleased with us. He deserves the best that we can give him and that's what I want you to remember baby" Now that was atleast 20 years ago and to this day I'm thankful for that influence which helped me as a gospel writer and minister of music. I advise everyone to get this cd. She not only was a good singer and musician, but she lived what she sang about in her songs. I love you Brenda. Hug my daddy for me and I'll see yall one day....

The Best of the Old and New Sounds of Gospel.......2000-06-28

Brenda Waters-Belivers and Friends is a fine addition to your gospel collection. She infuses the best of the old and new sounds of gospel. She has learned well from the old masters, James Cleveland and " The Mastro" Thomas Whitfield. "Victory" is the return to the traditonal gospel sound of the Donald Vails Choralers and James Cleveland and is this CD's signature song. It has a rousing, driving chorus that will make you get up and shout "Victory"! Another standout tune is "Absent from the Body". This song brings you into the prescene of the Lord and is a must while driving to work or on long trips. It is soothing and uplifting. "First Giving Honor" is a toe tapping, hand clapping, get up and shout Halleluia song. You just can't keep from giving God praises while listening and singing. "Stand" features the well trained choir, trio and a phenomenal solist that hits glass-shattering high notes and the choir and soloist, Brenda Waters sing an impressive choral round. This CD is a must for any music collector who wants the best of the old and new. It does what gospel music should do: Bring the good news of the gospel in song. Brenda Waters sings, plays and directs the choir on this CD. She is a mastro in the tradition of Thomas Whitfield and Richard Smallwood and she is at the top of her craft. Brenda is the consumate artist. She does it all and she does it all very well. I think the greatest testament to this CD is that it blesses me and brings me into the prescence of the Lord everytime I hear it. This CD is not to be missed!

Powerfully Blessed and Anointed Project.......2006-07-01

This project is so anointed it has really blessed my life. The song "All The Way" is so soulful and has really encouraged me at cruicial times of my life and the song "No Prayer" is a cry to the nation that very one needs to hear it simply says the problem with our nation is "No Prayer". I have had the opportunity to see Johnathan Dawson in concert with JMoss, Isreal, and others; he was outstanding and the audience stayed on their feet praising the Lord. This is a must have project and I can see Johnathan in concert over and over again, his performance really touches the soul.

This is a great album. It has lots of great songs such as "Thank God For Believers" as well a my personal favorite "Wherever You Are." He can also crank out a good up-tempo tune like "I Might Even Quit Lovin' You." A great all-around album. Keep it coming, Mark!
