The five instrumental tracks at the end of A Family Christmas are a great idea, providing listeners with their own karaoke Christmas. Along with some old favorites, Markus includes a spunky Latin number, "Felix Navidad," written by Jose Feliciano, while "Mele Kalikimaka," a Hawaiian song, also pleasantly swings the music away from the traditional. There's also a clever rendition of "The Twelve Days of Christmas," which swaps singing swans, golden rings, leaping lords, and milking maids for discipline tactics such as time outs, dirty looks, and the like. The song, however, does send a sentimental note, as does Markus's seasonal selection, the warm "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Sure to be family holiday favorite. --Martha Johnson

Great album...get the Razor & Tie version.......2007-03-14

If you are a fan of those great early Partridge Family albums, then you owe it to yourself to get these, the 1993 Razor & Tie versions and not the recent re-masters of 2000 and 2003. Why? Razor & Tie did not tamper with the sound quality, as a result, Razor & Tie CD's sound like the records you remember. I made the mistake of buying the re-masters thinking they would sound even greater; NOT!

Fantasic 70's Christmas Music.......2006-11-30

This is a truly wonderful Christmas album, CD, 8-track, whatever - I personally own all three. This is a great album for those of you who just enjoy Christmas music, but particulary Christmas music originating prior to 1980. This is not hokey at all, but a truly pleasant listening experience. All of these songs are warm and merry without being trite. Regardless if you were (or are still) a Partridge Family fan, consider this album for your Christmas library. You won't be disappointed.

Priceless, at any price.......2007-07-06

Years ago, watching peter Jennings cover the funeral procession of Princess Diana, my soul was captured by some hauntingly beautiful music that at times played in the background. So began my mission to find out what it was, who wrote it and how I could get it. After some correspondence with the network I was put in touch with the woman who "put together" that part of the programming. All she could remember is that it came from the movie "Black Beauty". THEN I found out how many versions of that had been made lol. With determination, I finally found it, and had a local music store order it for me.
There are no words to describe what this music does to me. I did try listening to some of the other tracks, but they didn't even come close. I rate this music right up there with the 1971 score for "Jane Eyre" by John Willams... and that's pretty high :D

Very nice overview of Elfman work. Insufficient by itself but worth having along with the full soundtracks. Bonus disc is a nice extra.

I Love Danny Elfman's music so much that I have started my own collection of the soundtracks that he composed. For a while, I was trying to find the "Beetlejuice" theme song from the TV show, but thanks to this release, I finally have it!!! Keep up the good work Elfman!

Music For A Darkened Theater, Vol.2 is a great cd!!! I love all of the tracks on both cd's,but my fav. ones are the t.v. scores and the This Is Halloween demo!!! If you love this,then i recomend looking at all the actually albums on this cd and his other works!!!! good job,Danny Elfman.

Bring on Volume 3.......2005-05-04

The liner notes and "This is Halloween Demo" on this compilation are well worth the CD price by themselves. Danny comments on each of the tracks on the CDs which is a rare and ego-free look at what a composer thinks of his own work.

Edward Scissorhands is magical, Black Beauty is a rollercoaster of emotion, and Dolores Claiborne makes me want to find the nearest piano. This is not a "Most Popular" compilation, rather it aptly showcases Danny Elfman's (and Orchestrator, Steve Bartek's) brilliance and wide range of style.

Every suite has an Elfman signature, such as the layered complexity which never sounds overdone, or the use of a choir as an instrument.

This (and Volume 1) are examples of the work of a modern day composer who consistently stands out as one of the best.

If you like this and have the spare cash, grab the individual scores from some of the movies he has worked on, including "Men In Black", "Spiderman", "Batman", "Batman Returns", "Nightmare Before Christmas", "Edward Scissorhands", "Mars Attacks" and so many more.

Anyone who's seen Kirk Franklin live knows that he's a powerful entertainer and an animated gospel singer who brings the church and the word with him wherever he goes. Christmas is Franklin's testament to faith and a showcase for some of the finest gospel singers in the Family as they soar through standards such as "Silent Night" and "Go Tell It On The Mountain," along with less familiar fare such as "Now Behold the Lamb" and "They Need To Know Him." Franklin's no gospel purist, however, whether he's charging through a hymn or telling that "Jesus Is the Reason for the Season." He interjects R&B and bits of hip-hop phrasing and jazz into the works. All of it makes for a rousing good time, one that almost turns a studio recording into a live front-pew experience that few Christmas records even come close to delivering. Form the first time I heard this CD. And heard many church choir doing "The Lamb of God". I knew that this CD would be a special one.
This CD is one that you should have in your collection. All of the songs on this CD, is worth having. From "Silent Night" to the last song "Silver & Gold - Remix" can be played each and every day. That is why I say, "These songs can make everyday Christmas" Give it a listen, and You'll see what I mean.

This is my favorite Christmas CD by far. I've had to buy it on 3 different occasions because it's enjoyed by so many in my family that it seems to always come up missing at the end of the holidays. The fact that I've been willing to buy it again and again is a testament to the power that radiates from the songs on this CD. The arrangement is imepeccable with mix of down home gospel as well as up tempo contemporary songs of praise, all the while keeping with the messages of the true meaning of Christmas. I will buy it again and again if I have to. Thank You Kirk Franklin and the Family for putting out a masterful, classic piece of work.

The best version of Silent Night on record.......2006-12-21

The first cut, Silent Night, is worth the price of the CD. I'm not a gospel music fan but I love about half the songs on this CD. Jesus is the Reason, O Come All Ye Faithful, The Night That Christ was Born and Silver and Gold are the other songs I like. Kirk Franklin and Family are a nice contrast to Robert Shaw Chorale during the holidays.

I have been hearing songs from this album for years and I finally got a copy of my own. As my boyfriend and I finished up our Thanksgiving by putting up the tree this CD set the mood. Once you pop this CD in it takes you to a place where you don't feel ashamed to praise Gods name. This CD lifts you up and really tells you about the real meaning of Christmas. This CD is powerful, one of Kirk and the Family's best (even though they are all good)! Whether it's 1996 or 2006 this CD is still one of the best Christmas albums ever!!!

Not as much of a hit as I thought it would be.......2007-01-10

I purchased this CD for my 7 year old daughter. She loves music and singing. I thought she would play this cd a lot more during the holiday season. I even thought she'd use it with her karaoke cd player. She did not. I'm not sure why. I thought it was a nice sounding cd. I'm a Disney lover so I'm not disappointed. I just thought it would get a little more playtime.

I purchased this album expecting all songs to be sung by Mickey and co., but I was wrong. An overwelming majority of the songs are just by no name singers. Some of the arrangements are fun, but if they were all by Mickey it could have been even more fun.

After seeing the film and loving the music i was very excited to purchase the cd. Upon receiving it I was very dissapointed. The CD is actually only the classical pieces composed especially for the movie. The actual songs played in the movie like, "Fooled around and fell in love" are not on the CD. If you want the CD for that music don't bother. I do like the music but an entire CD of almost the same song played fast then slow is not what I was after. I do have a baby and it puts her to sleep so it wasn't a total loss.

Very Disappointing.......2006-06-02

The best thing about this movie was the sound track. The movie itself is very disappointing. I expected more comedy after
seeing the trailers. It is very predictable and the change
that Sarah Jessica Parker's character goes through is totally
unrealistic. I'm glad I didn't see this at Christmas when
it came out - one of the story lines is depressing.

Great for Sinatraphiles, if not keep an open mind.......2006-10-24

This album is really a treat for those of us who can't get enough of Sinatra during the holidays. If you don't fall into that category, you may still enjoy it. The truth is, you probably know if you'll like it or not just by looking at it. I got it last year, after hearing some of the cuts from 2004's Christmas Collection. Some would contend that the best of SFWYAMC is sampled on that collection, but I feel the concept works better as a whole. I like the play between family members on the joint efforts, and most of the songs are pleasant. Most people think this is the definitive version of the Christmas Waltz and, although I disagree, I demur. Save this for last in your Sinatra C-mas purchase list, not because it's worse, but simply because if you don't like the others, you certainly won't like this. If you like Frank at the holidays, GET IT NOW, and make up your own mind. I recommend this cd.

Sock it to us, Santa!.......2004-12-13

This is a 24 Karat Gold CD, so it costs more than the average CD. I honestly can't notice any difference in sound quality between gold CDs and regular ones, but maybe that's just me. But gold CD is the only way this album is available, so it's that or nothing. It's a decent album, with Christmas songs by Frank Sinatra and his three kids. Three songs are sung by the whole family, with "I Wouldn't Trade Christmas" being the best one. Frank sings two songs, "Whatever Happened to Christmas?" and a remake of "The Christmas Waltz", both of which are very good. Nancy sings two songs, which are pretty good. Tina sings one song, which is okay. Tina actually sounds a lot like Nancy, but with an untrained voice. Nancy and Tina also sing a duet together, which kind of sounds like Nancy with her voice double tracked. And then there is Frank Jr., who sings the okay "O Bambino". This isn't the greatest Christmas album ever, but it's certainly passable, and Sinatra fans will probably enjoy it.

Wonderful Memories.......2003-11-15

When I was a kid growing up my dad bought this album on 8-Track tape and I must have played it till the tape broke - O Bambino and The Twelve Days of Christmas just to name a couple - all of the songs are wonderful. I'm so glad I found it again, now my children can enjoy it too (Tradition!)

NANCY Shines On Christmas CD.......2002-11-28

This is a wonderful collection of Christmas Songs as sung by the members of the SINATRA clan. Nancy does a terrific job on her songsand is especially moving on the tune IT'S SUCH A LONELY TIME OF YEAR. She leads the way on songs such as O Bambino (a duet with Tina Sinatra, who does an ok job with her vocals). Frank Sr. of course sings well on THE CHRISTMAS WALTZ and Frank Jr. certainly does a fair job with SOME CHILDREN SEE HIM.But it is Nancy who really makes this CD worth adding to your Christmas CD Collection. It would be nice if Nancy would do a solo Christmas CD but for now, it is great that this CD has been issued.Listen and Enjoy!

Being a Sinatra fan, I was delighted to find out that the long out of print Sinatra Family Christmas Album was available on CD.
Not your usual holiday fair, but nonetheless, a valuable gem for Sinatra fans. Standouts include Jimmy Webb's "Whatever Happened to Christmas" sung by Sinatra senior, "Its Such a Lonely Time of Year" sung by Nancy and "Some Children See Him", sung by Frank Jr. The songs sung by the family are also enjoyable. My least favorite is Cahn and Van Heusen's adaptation of "The 12 Days of Christmas". All and all a delightful holiday treasure for Sinatra fans.

A new musical Christmas tradition.......2004-12-14

This recording was my first experience with the Trapp Family Singers (other than knowing the story from The Sound of Music). I cannot state how pleasently surprised I was.

First of all, the technical quality of the recording is extraordinary. The selections were originally mastered between 1951 - 1953 by Deutsche Grammophon. Yet, despite the early dates, they sound like they were recorded yesterday.

The performances are even more extraordinary. The a capella settings of these traditional Christmas songs are rich in harmony and performed with a clarity rarely heard today. Of particular interest is the Michael Praetorius setting of Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen (Lo how a rose err blooming), Deck the hall with boughs of holly, and the Bach setting of Lobt Gott, ihr Christen alle gleich.

The family is conducted by Dr. Franz Wasner and the enclosed booklet offers a wonderful history of the family by writer Steven Ledbetter.

Overall, this recording has quickly become a new Christmas favorite of mine. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Christmas Songs from Many Nations - Flawlessly Sung.......2004-10-14

The first 18 tracks on this CD are from an LP of the same name that was a family favorite of ours since the 60s. The vocals are very precise, with noticeable German accents (especially on "Jesus Rest Your Head"). The Trapps, directed by Fr. Wasner, perform songs from their native Austria, including the hauntingly beautiful Scheibendudler (a kind of solemn jodler). Some listeners may not much like their rendition of traditional English or American songs (Deck the Halls, Jesus Rest Your Head). The less familiar Latin and foreign songs are a real treat. Favorites are "A la Nanita" (Spanish), Nu ar de Jul Igen (Swedish), and "Zu Bethlehem Geboren" (German). Most songs are done a capella, although there is recorder accompaniment on one or two. A songbook containing the first 18 songs with music is available from Amazon. All in all, a fine recording and great change of pace from the more usual Christmas music.

I fell in love with the Christmas song Dominic the Donkey after hearing it on the radio. I searched everywhere to try to buy this CD, but was unable to find it. I was so excited when I finally was able to purchase it so I would be able to hear my favorite Christmas song over and over!

Wonderful Christmas Compilation! .......2005-11-26

This CD is a perfect mix of Christmas favorites! My four-year-old daughter loves it. We sing along to all of the songs together. Dominic the Donkey reminds me of my childhood with my Italian grandparents enjoying Christmas. It is such a cute song for the entire family! And Feliz Navidad is great to sing along to as well. To balance out the catchier tunes, there are classic, beautiful Christmas carols to enjoy the true meaning of Christmas. I highly recommend this CD for the entire family to help celebrate your Christmas season!

KROQ is a legendary radio station in Los Angeles. Kevin & Bean are the drive time deejays on the station. Between 1990 and 1996, KROQ and Kevin & Bean released a Christmas cassette every year, featuring songs and comedy sketches, some of them performed by well known performers. In 1997, this CD was released featuring the "best of" the cassettes, plus a few new recordings. Most of the songs are good, and many of them are unavailable anywhere else. And the comedy sketches are funny. And where else can you find Johnny Cash, Cindy Crawford and Snoop Dogg on the same CD?

Great stuff! My one concern for it, though..........2006-08-18

...is that Michael, Andrea's brother, is a bit fey. Since there are already two stunning women's voices featured, did we really need what seems like a third? There are some lyrics where clearly it's clearly a man singing, yet it sounds like Andrea's daughter. All I'm saying is Michael could use some testosterone injections.

And it would have been nice had there been one Hanuchakah song added. (My personal choice would be "L'chaim!" from Fiddler on the Roof)

Andrea McAredle's Family Christmas is a fabulous Cd and a must have for any holiday collection! Her voice is amazing and I belive that she has more talent than most artists out there. Andrea McArdle's Family Christmas is a wonderful Christmas CD. The most obvious reason to by this CD is that you are treated to the clear, powerful, beautiful voice of Andrea McArdle. Ms. McArdle's voice is absolutely mesmerizing from the high energy opening "We Need a Little Christmas" to her absolutely gorgeous rendition of "The Christmas Song." Ms. McArdle has the ability to fill a song with an array of emotion. She has complete control of her voice with the skill to go from a breathtaking whisper to an unbelievably strong belt. Ms. McArdle is truly one of the most gifted artists of our time. Not only is Ms. McArdle extremely talented, she is part of a very talented family as well. The music on this CD is beautifully and creatively arranged by Ms. McArdle's husband Edd Kalehoff. Ms. McArdle's daughter Alexis Kalehoff has a beautiful, natural voice that is sure to become even more enchanting as she matures. Michael McArdle, Andrea's younger brother, is very, very good. Michael has several high energy Christmas songs that show off his impressive tenor voice. I would not be a bit surprised if we hear more about Michael in the years to come. I strongly recommend buying this CD. I have owned the CD since December 1999 and I still find myself popping it into my CD player in April! If anyone needs one more reason to look forward to Christmas, well here it is, Andrea McArdle's Family Christmas. This CD will bring you and your family pleasure for years to come and will be an excellent addition to any Christmas CD collection.

Andrea Does It Again.......2000-03-16

I bought this CD the minute I found out about it's existence. Once again, Andrea McArdle has a winner. This time she shares the stage with her daughter Alexis, her brother Michael, and a wonderful childrens chorus. My kids and I have been listening to this CD non-stop for the past two months -- and Christmas is long gone. The selection of songs is fabulous, the arrangements are great, and anything Andrea sings is pure heaven.
