When did you last attend an accordion concert with 4 artists.......2001-03-12
Several years ago I heard Daniel Thonon and 3 other equally fine accordion players perform locally in concert. Accordion music has a vibrant life on its own, as a centerpiece, not just backup to polkas or schmaltz of another sort. So I was thrilled to hear cafe music, celtic music, and original music all coming from the accordion and its relatives. The players were all rather short and ample, vigourous men (only men in this concert) whose accordions seemed comfortably attached to their personages. When it came time to choose a CD amongst the artists, I chose Daniel Thonon's. His CD contains music with which I had little or no familiarity but love just the same; and there is backup provided by flute, guitar, cornet, bass, recorder, harpsichord, bagpipes,etc. But Thonon is the star. You may have never heard anything quite like this, and it is a superb CD.
