        Album Description

        L'ANGE VERT plays an energetic celtic-rock sung in French, benefiting from incisive guitar soli. The Green Angel from Britanny enjoys combinations between traditional instruments (Bombarde, harmonica, violin…), electric rock energy and and sailor songs. The result can be compared with the works of CABESTAN, TRI YANN or BLANKASS. The musicians also play other themes more sophisticated and delicate, evoking those of Dan AR BRAS or GWENDAL. "Le Sang Des Hommes" has been recorded in 1995, "Les Armes De Bretagne" two years later, and "Tempêtes Et Châtiments" in 1999. "Vol De Nuit" is the first evidence of the incredible power shown on stage by the band, and has been published that same year. Those melodies will follow you on the seven seas !

        4 out of 5 stars spirited Breton folk rock .......2005-01-22

        L'Ange Vert records on Ethnea, a branch of progressive rock label Musea, and some of the more adventurous spirit permeates their debut album. Brittany should not be overlooked as a hotbed of high quality contemporary folk simply because of the language, which in this case happens to be French rather than Breton. And L'Ange Vert's enthusiastic take on the style should not be missed. The vocal and instrumental versatility are worth particular mention. The title cut is a potent ant-war diatribe whose chorus bemoans the blood of men and the body of women, and the three short parts of the "Je Pars" suite are as progressive as the genre gets, but there are lighter ditties as well, such as the opener "Marins de Coeur et de Fortune". True, the band sometimes strays a bit too far from its roots, notably in the 13+ minute "Les Yeux du Naufrage" which suffers under the weight of its own ambition. But on the whole L'Ange Vert knows it many strengths and has produced a class recording. Their subsequent albums rock a bit more but are also worth checking out.
