About the Artist
Carmela is an accomplished singer-songwriter and composer. With over 50 songs in various genres, she has a marked preference towards the styles of country-pop and folk music. It's quite a curiosity that in a country such as Uruguay, South America she has felt the instinctive vocation to create melodies which are related to specific regions of the United States.
Her melancholic and heartfelt lyrics lie in the richness of her music and the colours of her voice. From a young age, this remarkable artist has received important acknowledgements in her country and has made artistic journeys in Sweden, Corcega and Rome.
She has written songs in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, but much of her music is in English. This is her third release. The first two albums "Entre Nosotros" and "Siempre Serà" were both sold in South America.
Product Description
A preview from her upcoming full-length release, this EP showcases the talents of this exciting new voice from Uruguay. With a distinctive Americana flavor, reminiscent of artists such as Nora Jones, Bonnie Raitt, and Joni Mitchell, Carmela Barbé brings her heartfelt music and lyrics to life in "To Remind You".

When one thinks of musicals from Hollywood's golden age, the initials MGM come almost instantly to mind. Indeed when veteran song-and-dance man George M. Cohan was negotiating a film based on his colorful life story, his first choice was Metro--until a falling out with studio chief Louis B. Mayer. But L.B.'s loss eventually became Warner Brothers'--and film history's--gain when the Burbank studio's Cohan musical became a massive, patriotic hit in the opening months of World War II. As chronicled in this vibrantly restored, first-ever complete soundtrack for the film, it was a compelling twist of fate. James Cagney turns in one of the screen's most ostensibly unlikely--and ultimately indelible--musical performances (netting him his only Best Actor Oscar
®), teaming with studio music director Roy Heindorf to update Cohan's once-quaint turn-of the-century patriotic ditties ("You're a Grand Old Flag," "Over There," "Yankee Doodle Boy") and infectious vaudevillian chestnuts ("Give My Regards to Broadway," "Harrigan") with bracing dollops of the studio's '40s orchestral sass--and, just months after Pearl Harbor, some crucial historical parallels. Also included are four bonus tracks that remarkably survived the film's preproduction, including an outtake of "You Remind Me of My Mother" and voice-and-piano-only rehearsal versions of "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "You're a Grand Old Flag" that further underscore Cagney's deceptively effortless ability to sell a song despite his limited musical gifts. It's a long overdue showcase for a true American film musical gem. --Jerry McCulley

Yankee Doodle Dandy Review.......2006-11-03
It's an old movie with an old soundtrack, but I loved the movie, I love the music, and I'm very happy with my purchase.
Yankee Doodle Dandy.......2006-06-30
Excellent in black and white and color. James Cagney also got a medal from a President. (President Reagan!} If you like entertainment...this is it!
Amazing! Wonderful! Just buy it - you won't be sorry!.......2005-03-05
I am so very glad I bought this CD. I own the DVD of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and watch it all the time, so I almost didn't buy this, wondering if I really needed yet another CD.
Well, thank God I didn't pay any attention to that dumb idea!
If you love "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and Cagney, you just have to buy this soundtrack. It's like being able to take the movie with you anywhere ... it's not just the songs - as others have said - but also includes bits of Cagney's voice-overs, even the tap-dancing from the end of "Little Johnny Jones." And since the audio system in my car is better than my TV's, it all seemed even bigger, richer and better. (George M. would love that!)
Wonderful, wonderful stuff!
What a find!!.......2003-06-15
I haven't been able to see this movie on TV since Turner bought it (don't get TCM), but if you've seen the movie several tims, as I have, listening to this CD is very nearly as good as watching it all the way through. (I'm so delighted with it that I'm even willing to forgive TCM for putting a paper ad inside with the disc.)
Monumental effort must have gone into this soundtrack, given the age of the original recordings. The tracks here are crisp, clear, and bright, with no evidence of how long ago they were first put down. The editors were also generous in their inclusion of dialogue that ties some of the tracks together (for example, we hear the man tell Johny Jones to watch for the skyrocket, then we hear the skyrocket as it leads into "Give My Regards to Broadway"). There are a couple of places where the endings are slightly abrupt but this is because, in the movie, the music fades into extended dialogue.
The only bit of dialogue I expected to hear in a song, but didn't, is in "Over There" near the very end of the film, when Cagney/Cohan has fallen in step with the soldiers going off to WWII, as they're singing "Over There", when the soldier nearest him says something like, "What's wrong, old timer, don't know the words?" and Cagney says, "Seems to me I do" and starts singing along. That's minor and pales next to how wonderful the rest of this soundtrack is.
One of the biggest treats on this CD is that we get to hear some of Cagney's tapping, notably in "Give My Regards to Broadway", "You're a Grand Old Flag", and - one of my favorite moments in movie history - when he dances down the White House stairs to "Yankee Doodle" near the end).
The outtake is not a humorous one, simply a track they decided not to use. It and the rehearsal tracks are all just the performers voices with piano accompaniment. I especially enjoyed hearing Cagney rehearsing "You're a Grand Old Flag".
If you like Cagney, if you like Cohan's music, if you like movies "the way they used to make them", or if you're not ashamed to get a little choked up with patriotism once in a while, you will not be disappointed in this CD!
A Soundtrack Every American Should Own.......2002-09-23
Finally! If you own that Hollywood Soundstage abomination of the "Yankee Doodle Dandy" soundtrack you can finally pitch it. Here is the real article. Rhino (Turner Classic Movies Music) lovingly restored the music from the beloved "Yankee Doodle Dandy" motion picture starring James Cagney. This soundtrack sounds astonishing considering it's 60 years old. It's very obvious some loving care was taken in it's production for which we all should be greatful. The liner notes also are great with informative text and wonderful photos from the movie. The marvelous George M. Cohan songs gives one goosebumps and bring tears to the eyes. We all need this type of patriotic pep rally, especially in these tough times. As I've said, this soundtrack belongs in every American's home just as much as that "Grand Old Flag"! I believe there are plans to release the movie on DVD, hopefully soon.

Perhaps I should start by admitting a bias: Many years ago, lying on Boston's grassy Esplanade by the Charles River on warm summer nights, I learned what a symphony orchestra should sound like, with Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. Those concerts were free; these seven compact discs are not--not quite. But for any lover of light classical music, they are certainly one of the best buys available. The orchestra (essentially the Boston Symphony) is one of the world's greatest; the music, from Smoke Gets in Your Eyes to the Goyescas Intermezzo and Ride of the Valkyries is instantly enjoyable and permanently valuable; the conductor is at the same time genial and exacting, convinced that any music you play, no matter how frivolous, deserves the best you can give it. --Joe McLellan

Pretty good.......2004-01-21
Yeah, this CD's pretty good. Actually, the CD is great! Too bad there aren't any available! Good thing I already have a copy. I wonder if she has a website? I bet you could find one there. hmmmmmmmm.
Worth a try.......2003-12-05
I bought this album because I was off sick at home and watched The Bread, my sweet on Sky movies. As the credits rolled a voice drifted in to my ears that I had to hear again. I flopped off the sofa to check for the soundtrack listing and saw the name. In my weakened state I managed to get on to Amazon and find one album without the track I'd just heard but thought I'd give it a try anyway. I'm glad I did. What a fantastic voice! If someone doesn't sign her soon and get her music out to a much wider audience I'll start a record company myself and do it. C'mon all you record company types! I'm living proof that you can sell Rachel McCartney in the UK, just get more of it out here. Rachel, good luck and let's hope that you're a household name across the planet by this time next year! By the way, I really liked the album too!!
Soulful folk singer.......2003-05-02
I just bought this CD from the sidewalk during a break when Rachel Mccartney (and a bandmate for some songs on clarinet - a nice selection to go with the acoustic guiter) was singing and playing for free in Harvard Square in Cambridge. I'm from Seattle and was visiting on business that day and had the evening free to wander and enjoy the vibrant local scene. Rachel will undoubtedly break-out to be quite popular and probably just needs to get signed to a big label for this to happen. This recording features 8 extremely catchy songs with Rachels soulful singing and some complementary instruments. The recording quality is good but could have benefitted from better mixing/recording - however, I like this recording personally and am giving it 5 stars because it captures the raw street-performance essence of that evening I first heard Rachel and co. in Harvard Sq.
A great CD for lovers of folk and female rockers.......2002-12-18
Rachel McCartney is a wonderful singer/songwriter from the Boston area. I had the pleasure of seeing her and purchasing this CD last summer. As comparisons go, which I hate to do because sometimes they miss, I'd compare her to Shawn Colvin, Ani DiFranco, Sarah Harmer and Bonnie Rait. Rachel is a true talent...a strong strummer on guitar with a booming, but sensitive voice. Sometimes bluesy, sometimes rocking, Rachel sings about relationships and dealing with thier peaks as well as their valleys. She sings openly about her beliefs and struggles. I would recommend this CD, but most of all, look for this artist to break out in the near future.

Great for any NB fan.......2004-12-26
I have received this CD and this has probably gotta be one of the best SQTs I have heard. Todd Rubenstein's renditions of the big hits of "Leader of Men", "Someday", "Too Long", and "How You Remind Me" are done in perfection. With mr. Rubenstein doing everything except the 1st violin, which is also professionaly done. I personally enjoyed this CD and any NB fan would, too.
A Glass Of Wine & Nickelback.......2004-04-07
Enjoy a good bottle of wine at candlelight with your rock & roll chick and show her how you've got a little bit of style. This is a damn good CD and it has made me feel like I've got a little class, too!
Great CD!.......2004-04-05
I really like this series of stuff and especially this particular producer. I have the String Quartet Tributes to 3 Doors Down, Audioslave and I just got this CD and the Rush one. Nickelback's songs just sound great like this! How You Remind Me is first and has a lot of extra instruments and is like an orchestra on serious steroids. Good Times Gone reminds me of something out of a movie. They made it have a couple new parts that are really cool sounding and creative. Do This Anymore is KILLER! The album also has my other most favorite NB songs.
Never Again (which totally freakin' ROCKS!)
Someday
Throw Yourself Away
& Woke Up This Morning
There's an original song that's pretty good too, but I don't know why they put an original song on the NB tribute, unless it was written for NB or something. Nevertheless, if you want a great CD and a great way to listen to NB, you won't be dissapointed with this one. Five stars all the way!
WOW!!! --- FANTASTIC!!!!.......2004-03-31
This is the most incredible CD I have ever heard!!!
It is simply amazing!
I heard about it at a Nickelback concert.... Chad Kroeger (NB's singer) was talking about it during their set. He said it was awesome and that he was honored that someone thought enough about NB's music to pay tribute to them in this way.
After I got my copy and listened to it, I had to come in here and let everyone know that this is the most incredible CD I own. It is SOOOOOO AWESOME!!!
Every single song sounds like the original and has the energy that Nickelback puts in their music, but it is performed by an orchestra, without singing.
I love this CD, my boyfriend loves this CD all my friends love this CD and my Mom loves this CD (the only one I have that my Mom likes).... How cool is that?!?!?
Thank you to whoever the people are that made this CD. It is now my favorite CD I own.
A great cd if your open to new things.......2004-03-28
This cd is extremly enjoyable if you can stand more than one type of music. The tribute songs sound very close to the original. I like it more than the original, by far.

Album Description
Many Voices is the CD debut from Vermont resident John Sullivan. Sullivan, in late 2003, performed with Badfinger and Jon Butcher during some East Coast concert dates. Many Voices is an appropriate title for a CD which sometimes reminds one of later day John Prine, the alternative rock of the Foo Fighters and there is even a techno sounding tribute to George Harrison (India Crys). Sullivan has over 30 years of experience making music, even though this is his first "official" release. According to Sullivan, "Now just felt like the right time for my original songs to be heard. And the flood gates have opened because I am already working on my next CD." For those willing to take a chance on this "new" artist, you will be rewarded with a great CD and you'll wonder why John Sullivan took so long to let his "Many Voices" be heard.

Album Description
"Closer To Nowhere" is a collection of songs from the Michigan based duo Aloft. From the opening guitar sounds of "Dizzy", the listener will soon understand that a musical journey has begun. Steeped with sounds and imagery of days that have past, Aloft has created an album that pays tribute to the styles of the records that you used to play. "Closer To Nowhere" is an album that permeates into the collective thought while exploring themes of spiritual quests, life experience and human emotion. The tracks "S.O.S." and "Blind" are the standout pop tracks that resemble the early FM radio single sound, while as you dive deeper in, songs like "Cactus Cross" and "Tilt" have a powerful sound and passion that evokes images from within. The unique thing about this album is the ability to apply it to one's life. Not so much is this band ready to conquer the world as they are intent on the listener viewing into their own.
Customer Reviews:
Buy this CD!.......2005-02-05
I'm not a very good reviewer, but this CD is so wonderful that I have deicded to give you my impressions of it. Well, first of all, any CD that leaves you singing the songs long after you have stopped listening to them must be good, and this one is no different. The peppy melodies that Billy and Todd bring to this CD are outstanding!!! The two best songs, in my opinion, are "Closer to Nowhere" and "Cactus Cross." I just keep playing them and singing along. If nothing else, listen to these two songs and you can just feel the talent of these two men.
While I was listening, I was trying to compare this artist to others, but I couldn't do it. Why? There are so many I could compare them to, that I would need a pad of paper to keep up. I don't say that in a negative way, I say that in the way that they sound like the best of many groups. Really, I think you should buy this CD and then you could say that you owned the first "Aloft" CD before they became famous. Great job Billy and Todd and keep up the great work! I look forward to the next one.
Take A Chance, I Did.......2004-11-20
When I read about bands like Wilco and Radiohead writing, recording, deconstructing and rearranging their songs to come up with something new, I get a little bit sick with all of the manipulation. Don't get me wrong, Wilco and Radiohead are two of my favorites, but there is an obvious difference between a constructed album and a deconstructed album. Pink Floyd's longer jams, like "Meddle", are constructed; they are built layer by layer by musicians with ears that somehow mix sounds that are oil and water to the rest of us. The "modern-rocker" in me appreciates the visions of Jeff Tweedy and Thom Yorke, but the classic rocker in me yearns for the warmth of well-crafted melodies, un-"enhanced" by the clever manipulation of sound, post-recording.
As I sit here listening to Aloft's "Closer To Nowhere", the classic rocker in me is thoroughly satisfied, (and dancing some in his chair). The modern-rocker in me is firmly planted, riding on lush, flowing carpets of sound through a universe crafted by Billy Mrak and Todd Brasseur, (aka Aloft), that rivals a trip to Wonka's factory. If we're talking about ear candy, Aloft is Wonka, and I'm the Candyman peddling "Closer To Nowhere" as a new chewing gum containing an entire meal. Track six, "Cactus Cross" has just begun, and I'm stuffed from the meal already, but it tastes so good, I can't stop eating. Each song is my new favorite as it plays, all the way through to "Yellow Light", my first favorite upon my first listen. I honestly can't say what my favorite song is now. I can't have one without another. I need the whole album!
Please listen to this album through headphones, alone, with the time and attention to take it in. It's not a self-indulgent, sparse, rookie debut. "Closer To Nowhere" sounds like a fourth or fifth album, not a first. It is Aloft's "Unforgettable Fire", their "YankeeHotelFoxtrot", on their first outing. Everything about is mature and refined. Billy, Todd, with two months to go, "Closer To Nowhere" is my Number One album of 2004.
