Editorial Reviews
Downingtown Ledger
"...strong guitar work that contrasts their sweet melodies. Perfect harmonies and engaging lyrics with a solid and entertaining beat."
Product Description
backflipannie's second CD release. An interesting blend of acoustic guitar sounds and harmonies with subtle additions of piano, horn, and saxophone. Fuller instrumentation on this CD as opposed to the simpler acoustic style of "Open Cases", their previous release.

John Williams' lovely and moving score for the sixth Star Wars film brings thirty years of collaborating on George Lucas' beyond-popular intergalactic franchise to a close. (Is this really the end of Star Wars? Can't Lucas and Williams work together on a prequel to these prequels? Let us hope so, and that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere near it.) As this music accompanies the most exciting Star Wars film in many a moon, the soundtrack itself is more fun, more evil, more nasty and bumpy. Many of the heroic, anthemic themes woven throughout Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith will necessarily be familiar to any fan of the series, from the "Imperial March" to the main theme. It's remarkable how stirring the latter can be, no matter how many times you've heard it, and even for those who do not have all their money invested in S.W. memorabilia. There is a lot of new music here, and the lush, extensive range of both Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra is on display, most notably in the menacing, percolating "General Grievous" and the rousing "New Hope" end theme. --Mike McGonigal

Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V).......2007-06-21
product: Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V), included as bonus disc in Episode III soundtrack.
The bonus dvd with this soundtrack was the reason I purchased. I enjoy film soundtracks, and science fiction, but this dvd was a real highlight for me. I got the soundtrack cd out of the local library. The cd was missing from the case, but I found this wonderful dvd instead that I went out to purchase later.
With optional segments of dialog from Ian McDiarmid, this film is a stunning visual and musical overview of the full epic story of episodes I-VI of Star Wars. For those of us who felt that eps. IV-VI fell short of our expectations, this film presents them well as parts of the whole story. The Musical Journey also stands as a summary of the entire SW opus for someone who is not familiar with the Star Wars characters and plot. Highly recommended.

Not one of his bests, but very close.......2007-05-21
The Episode III soundtrack is very good. Not great, but very, very good. You can tell that Williams is getting old, but he still manages to weave together a very memorable score.
My favorite tracks are "Battle of the Heroes," "Anakin's Betrayal," Palpatine's teachings, "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan," and the "Immolation Scene."
The others are very good as well, but these are especially nice. "Battle of the Heroes" is Dual of the Fates for Revenge of the Sith. "Anakin's Betrayal" is a very sad track that is, in my opinion, one of William's most powerful pieces. "Palpatine's Teachings" is really, really neat. It's very dark and moody, a perfect piece for the evil emperor. The only weird thing is the end. "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan" is the action piece that plays during the battles of Anakin and Obi-Wan, and Yoda and the Emperor. Finally, "The Immolation Scene" is another sad piece, even more so than "Anakin's Betrayal."
Although I really like this CD, there are some things that are missing (as usual). First, the whole sequence where the droids are looking for Obi-Wan after he was shot. You see Obi-Wan in his ship with Senator Organa on the Hologram (or whatever it is), and Obi-Wan says that his clones turned on him. That was some pretty awesome music that OF COURSE was left out of the CD. Then there was Dual of the Fates in the movie, but completely absent from the CD. And probably the most annoying was that whole piece of music before Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. It was so touching and sad and I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT IT OUT! Absolutely amazing. Also, did anyone notice that some little bits were cut out? For example, in Anakin vs. Obi Wan, they cut out about a second or two of choir. What?! What the heck is with that? It's when Anakin is running on the long thing and jumps on the droid on the lava. Also, there was some pretty cool drumming when you see Yoda and the Emperor fighting, and you can see the whole stadium (the big room). There's also drumming in "Enter Lord Vader" that is muted in the soundtrack.
Oh well...if I'm going to collect movie scores, I'm going to have to get used to the fact that in almost all cases there's not going to be every bit of music. I've experienced this in both Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park I (there was very little left out on this score), and almost everything else. At the moment, I'm just waiting for the 22nd, for the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 soundtrack. It's gonna be amazing.

John Williams' finest work.......2007-04-20
There is little more I can say that hasn't already been said about the soundtrack to Episode 3, especially what Amazon contributor Dan Mohr wrote in his review of the soundtrack on 2/2/2006. His review captured almost all the thoughts, feelings, and emotions I had when I first listened to the soundtrack, and was, IMO, the best review of John Williams' greatest masterpiece.
Having said that, I will say that few soundtracks have ever so perfectly captured the underlying emotional currents of their respective movie; in the case of ROTS, the contemporaneous tragedies of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, the extermination of the Jedi, and the rise of the oppressive Empire. The listener is confronted with the depth and totality of the evil that has beset the entire galaxy to a degree that the film could not reach in only 2 hours.
Bravo, Dan Mohr, and BRAVO John Williams!
A Great Conclusion to the Prequel Trilogy.......2007-04-07
This is a great work of art. I rank it 4th among Star Wars soundtracks after A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Phantom Menace. I had a hard deciding which I thought was better, The Phantom Meance or Revenge of the Sith, but I decided that The Phantom Menace lays the foundation for so much that is in this soundtrack and is thus the more masterful work. But that doesn't mean that this score still isn't great. Every piece is a thrill to listen to and pace never lets up. "Battle of the Hereos" is an amazing piece and the rendition of the "Funeral Theme" from Episoded I captures the film's tragety magnificently. Also I do not think John Williams could have portrayed the Jedi's extinction more perfectly than he did in "Anakin's Betrayal". This is without a doubt the best score of 2005 and one of the best of the decade.
Williams is slumming it.......2007-04-01
Williams's score for Revenge of the Sith is almost entirely overbearing, lacking any emotional subtlety. The music is overcomplicated and even a bit confusing, especially in the tracks that correspond to action sequences in the movie. His overuse of choral tracks and vocals is too bombastic and irritating to be listened to without the explosions and laser blasts of the soundtrack to soften them. (Yes, this music is actually softened by the sounds of warfare.) Worst of all, much of the music has simply been lifted from earlier scores. At times his self-imitation was so blatant that I actually wondered whether the editor who had complied this score had made a mistake and I was listening to The Empire Strikes Back or A New Hope. Also suffers from not including the entire score, in some cases cutting out musical segues in obvious and awkward ways.

After playing henchman on Jeru the Damaja's first two albums, Afu-Ra steps into the solo spotlight with this solid effort. While Jeru himself is missing from the proceedings, for those already familiar with the Afu-Ra, many elements of previous outings remain. His lyrics are stacked with the metaphysical and mathematical content that blesses the singles "Whirlwind Thru Cities" and "Defeat," and as a satellite member of the Gang Starr Foundation, Afu-Ra wisely retains the services of DJ Premier as executive producer. Despite the presence of other beat merchants, the uncompromisingly hard-boiled beats bear Premier's trademark, and he also deserves credit for the shrewd recruiting of collaborators such as the Cocoa Brovaz (on "D & D Soundclash") and M.O.P. (on "Warfare"). Afu-Ra's earnest dispensing of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding at times becomes repetitive in both delivery and content, but the presence of other voices and the above-par production cleverly disguise the monotony. --Del F. Cowie

GOOD SPIRIT,WACK LYRICS.......2007-06-03
I LIKE AFU RA'S SPIRIT, BUT DA KID CAN'T RHYME. HIS FLOW SOUNDS TOO AMETUER
HE HAS NO RHYTHM IN HIS VOICE. C'MON, THIS DUDE SAYS STUFF LIKE " I ASSASSINATE LIKE TOXIC WASTE"--WAAAACK! HIS BEATS ARE KIND OF CORNY TOO.
I DON'T KNOW HOW THESE OTHER REVIEWERS ARE GIVING HIM PRAISE. I UNDER-
STAND HE'S TRYNA REP REAL HIP HOP, BUT IF IT HAS TO BE THIS WACK, PASS ME
A MASTER P ALBUM. IT'S FUNNY, EVEN THOUGH HE'S UNDERGROUND, HE'S MORE
POPULAR THAN SUPERIOR LYRICIST SUCH AS MEGALON & PUNKINHEAD.
High Energy .......2007-01-03
I like Afu-Ra ever since I heard him with Jeru. I will say that Whirl WindThru Cities is my favorite cut on the album it makes your head bounce that's for sure. Overall this is a pretty good album not a classic but a solid effort.
Afu-Ra - Body Of The Life Force.......2006-03-10
A very ill album. Afu-Ra gots the illest emcee voice. Makes me want to start flowin with him. Really ill production on the album also, real hiphop beats. Afu-Ra gots style in rappin and he shows it here. This album gots a pretty high replay value to it. Hes the type of emcee that could flow to any beat. But the major ups in this album is the beats. Only if all rap had these types. But people are feeling more bubblegum beats these days. If you want to check out some real hiphop that you wont be dissapointed with after buying, then I highly recommend that you cop this album! You wont be mad you got it, cause its that good! (...)
Mad skillz .......2005-01-20
This album is series his lyrics are crazy, he's underground and keeps it that way cause he's real. whirlwind through cities if you don't no now ya know go out and buy it...
If only Life Force Radio was as good as this.........2004-11-01
This album is completely off the hook, but than all the junk we hear today on the radio. Afu's talent here is incredible. It's just a pity his 2nd album "Life Force Radio" wasn't anywhere near as good as this. Anyway, the best song here is Equality, which most have probably already heard. Other notable tracks are All That, Soul Assassination, Bring It Right, Caliente, Defeat, Self Mastery, Warfare, and the GZA collab, Bigacts Littleacts. I recommend this to all hip-hop heads, because he is so original and has a lot of talent, which is displayed here.

Not to be missed!!!.......2007-04-30
This CD is simply excellent! Anybody who ever cared for TV soundtracks should give it a chance. The only better thing is Barry Gray's music for "UFO" TV series, which has been promised from Silva Screen (and has been published by "Fanderson" and since sould out). So, whatever somebody think of the series, this music will not fail to delight. Impressive and nostalgic, mysterious and enthralling, this music really deserves to be heard by everybody.
Great year one compilation.......2007-01-09
This remastered version of Space:1999 year one or series one sounds excellent. It is very clear and you can better appreciate Barry Gray wonderful job.
If you are Space:1999 fan, it is a must have.
An Excellent CD.......2006-07-27
Talk about bringing back memories. The music is crisp-clear & updated. For the 1999 fans-this is a must have.
Fantastic Future Score.......2005-04-01
Space:1999 - the series - may be one of the most controversial SF shows ever. People either love it, or they hate it... there seems to be little middle ground. As a kid I was thrilled with the series, although even then I could see the weaknesses in science, story, and characterization. But from a purely visual and aural standpoint, the first series rarely disappointed.
Especially when it came to the music. As many fans know, Barry Gray scored only 4 episodes - the rest being rounded out by reusing his cues for those episodes, plus liberal doses of library music. This disc gives a good overview of the magnificent music written specifically for the series, as well as a sampling of some of those library cues. As a previous reviewer said, the ultimate soundtrack to the series was released several years ago by the Fanderson organization ( which one had to join as a member to be able to order ) and is sadly out of print. Copies can be found on the internet, often selling for prohibitive prices. Unless you are a diehard collector, willing to shell out a good sized portion of your paycheck, this single disc is the way to go.
Sound quality is superb, and in some cases surpasses the previously mentioned two disc set, as several of the tracks have been remastered to remove wow, flutter, and distortion that could be heard on the Fanderson set. The main title was remixed to make it truer to the on-screen version, and the tracks from the episode "Black Sun" are in stereo on CD here for the first time ever. The previous release featured the episode's complete score, but only as a monophonic version, as many of the multitrack masters for that particular episode have been lost. For that alone, this disc is worth owning, even if you have the Fanderson set.
However, it is Gray's music that is the true reason to own this soundtrack - regardless of your feelings about the series. Full bodied, sweeping, emotional and grand... not at all your typical seventies television soundtrack. Years before John Williams revived the popularity of orchestral scores for science fiction projects, Barry Gray was filling small screen speakers with epic music that would have sounded perfectly at home in a motion picture theatre.
Space 1999 Year One Soundtrack Available Once Again!.......2005-03-09
I give this soundtrack 5 stars only because the soundtrack is awesome, but if you want a more complete compilation, you need to find the Fanderson version.
The year 1 music definately set the tone for the TV show back in 1975. It gave it beautiful character and feeling for the show. It was ashame that for the second year that they had changed so much (even the music) and lost that character and feeling (but that is a whole other debate).
In 1976, RCA records released the year 1 soundtrack with a beautiful gate fold cover and for about 20+ years, that is all we had, until Fanderson. The year 1 soundtrack is no longer available through them, but it is the most complete. This CD, however, does well to capture the feeling of year 1 and does throw an additional track for you sun bathers out there. It is a nice 30 year anniversary gift to myself. Happy 30th Birthday: SPACE 1999!!!

This Blows Your Mind!.......2001-08-21
SERIOUSLY, it's a trip! Soundscape UK can cover a broad range of Jazz. Life Force is it! The Journey Within and Inner Space will truly take your mind for a ride. Their trippy acid funk is like no other. If I had to describe it, I'd say it has an electronica mix of Herbie Hancock, George Howard, Roy Ayers, and Guru styles. But, actually, it's none other than Chris Bangs' innovative style. Also, check out Surreal Thing by Soundscape UK and Fingalikkin' Good by their other name, Yada Yada. Mystic Vibes on that CD has that genuine Soundscape UK trippy acid style that will blow your mind! Chris Bangs is da man!

Is there such a thing as 'soft' funk?.......2001-05-04
This is an interesting CD in that it combines mildly funky beats with warm sax and a Wes Montgomery guitar sound. It's a little too soft in places for me, I like things that swing a little more. I think it's the drum machines that turn me off. If you like this CD, you might also try: 3rd Force "Force Field" or Duboniks "On the Vibe". If you want something that's truly funky/jazzy, try Greyboy Allstars or Stanton Moore. Happy listening!
One of my best "fussion-jazz-funk" CD's in my collection.......2000-09-23
This album blows a cool breeze of innovation right in your face. The mix of jazz and funk with some electro beats give to this CD a unique taste for your delicate senses. A true "5 star" work for people with good taste for the music.
Bangs and Talbot cook up some tasty Jazzy / Bossa flavors.......1999-02-20
Melodic and Funky, great structure to these instrumental numbers. If you like Incognito's 100%, you'll love this gem. Rita Campbell adds a powerful vocal, on "I'll be around", you'll catch yourself humming along. Check out their Surreal albumn too, it has more vocal tracks and comes on stronger.

review from Synthesis.......2005-11-17
Psychedelic/hip-hop/jazz-funk approximates what you will find on this groovy two-disc set. With instrumental flashes of the Zap Band and a voice akin to Barry White's (though higher-pitched), Trible and friends produce dynamic tracks that will challenge assumptions. Hippy and hipster sets will accept this record immediately, but it might take the hardcore hip-hoppers a little longer. They, like all people, need to take Trible's message to heart: "It's all about love, peace, unity and havin' fun." Perhaps that's why the trio included the second disc of instrumentals; to draw in rappers thirsting for innovative beats who might not have picked it up otherwise.

Album Description
"AIDS Wolf formed eighteen months ago, and they've already been the subject of polarised debate between two Pitchfork critics. Last year a photo of their spastic live show headed a New York Times article on the Montreal music scene. They've been name-dropped in Spin. And all this happened without an album to their name." - EXCLAIM
"Athletic Automaton rock a sick dynamic that is all about sustain, twisting your mind and expectations past the breaking point. Their riffs and grooves are minimal, the lyrics occasional, and the tension they bend so well is a definite, and most welcome, constant." - SKYSCRAPER
In the wake of their respective debut albums, Providence's Athletic Automaton and Montreal's AIDS Wolf came face to face, stripped bare of armor, wielding weapons of choice. With the battle lines drawn, each band tallied forcefully, committing individual tracks to tape. But as the war waged on, members defected from side to side, new alliances were formed, and the hard lines blurred. What emerged from the battlefield was an entirely new entity: bloodied, unbowed, and undefeated.
Recorded by Patrick Crump in Rhode Island and Radwan Moumneh (Cursed, Ire and the Black Hand) at One Hundred Sided Die in Montreal, Skin Graft Records presents Clash of the Life-Force Warriors on dueling formats: as a compact disc and gatefold-sleeved vinyl LP, intimately designed by Montreal's Seripop.
Athletic Automaton is guitarist Stephen Mattos, formerly of Arab On Radar; and drummer Patrick Crump, Pellum 123 expatriate. AIDS Wolf is concussionist Hiroshima Thunder, singer Special Deluxe, and guitarists Barbarian Destroyer and HIM, The Magi. AIDS Wolf vs. Athletic Automaton is the dawn of a new age: a crystalline declaration of independence for an uncivilized world.

Van Gogh's Passion and Agony in Music.......2004-03-06
"Lust for Life" is a beautiful musical score composed by Miklos Rozsa. Roza captures to joy and agony that Vincent Van Gogh had in his short but furious life as a great artist. Rozsa uses French Impressionist themes similar to Claude Debussy for Van Gogh's time spent painting and living in France. There are moving brotherly love themes for Vincent and his devoted bother, Theo. There are musical themes that mirror Van Gogh's mental anguish and breakdown, his fueds with fellow artist Paul Gauguin, and his frustration at establishing himself as a great artist, his deep loneliness and failed attempts at friendship and love. This is a very evocative score that conplements the savage brush strokes of Van Gogh's paintings and his great lifeforce that drove him to create one masterpiece after another and music that shows his decent into madness. No small measure that Miklos Rozsa was up to the task of putting Van Gogh's ecstasy and torment into music. One of Rozsa's best scores and should be more widely heard. Highly recommended aside from his composing for immense epics. Van Gogh's story is well told in musical terms by Rozsa.
