This collection of 20 original songs represents over 25 years of song writing and includes the award winning song "Faces of Children" (International Country Music Association Competition), the two time contest winner, "Psalm 137," and several commissioned pieces. Sue's music--whether meditational or up tempo and joyful--is always uplifting and spiritual. There are full choral pieces, as well as small ensemble numbers and solo songs all performed by professional vocalists, and musicians on keyboard (piano and synthesizer), guitar, bass, drums and percussion, and flute. I ejoyed this CD. Athough not all the songs were in the top ten of my list, I would still by this CD again. The best song that really makes this CD worth buying is "This is your life". Very funky song with that lazy catchy bass. This song should blow the doors off your car when placed at the right decimal. I bought the CD about a week ago, and I still can't stop playing this song. This should make people dance in the streets.

I purchased this cd by curiosity, after buying this band's latest. The album starts well, with a James Taylor Quartet like track. I think to myself "great, it is going to be a good acid jazz cd".

But, as you know, an album is not just one track. And you will find excellent, but also average cuts on this 45 minutes journey, which makes me think that the album is a bit irregular and inconsistent. On the negative side : "This is your life" is somehow repetitive. The vocalist is completely lost and overwhelmed on tracks 8 and 9. The guitar solo on tracks 6 and 10 is played just like George Benson used to play some 20 years ago. Not really new or innovative, you must admit it... The good ones : A good cover version of "Joy and Pain", from Maze. "Got to do" is well sung and has a good rythm. The title track from the album and "So far away" are very Brand New Heavies like (though the singer is neither N'dea nor Siedah) and the closing track is an excellent one, to the point that there is a cover version sung by someone else, though I can't remember exactly who.

So, overall this release is not as good as the Trust your instincts cd, which would deserve four stars when compared to this one. If you are an acid jazz lover, you will find that Incognito and Brand New heavies are the masters, before other groups like D-influence, The James Taylor Quartet, Galliano or the Brooklyn Funk Essentials, then a third category among which this cd is included.

    Thomas has been playing for more than 20 years. I first heard his music back in the old days in San Marcos, TX. I enjoy his view of life and how he manages to capture a feeling.

    Whilst continually browsing and searching for Bill's "Livin' it Up" recording,I must admit that over the years I have bypassed Right Direction on numerous occasions. What a fool!! Livin' it Up was great but this album is a musos dream. Being a bass player and vocalist there's a ton that can be learned here.

    My favourites are "Mr.O" and the title track "Right Direction" if I had to choose the top 2, but the repeat button is pressed at the end of track 10 more often than on any other CD.

    Now, can the folks at amazon.com source the CD featuring "Livin' it Up" if there is one????

    Anyone familiar with LaBounty's earlier works will find this album to be a new direction lyrically. Where the earlier albums were dark and desperate in tone this album is more hopeful and joyous but with the same hook laden pop melodies that characterize Bill LaBounty tunes. A recommended album but if you can persuade Amazon to find and sell you the Japanese import on Dreamsville Records (YDCD-0013) you will be rewarded with 4 tracks not on the American release.

    Whith these players it can't be anything else than a success!! It is live in the studio - belive it or not. And that good sound, just turn the music up and enjoy! Listen to John Robison on the drums, in the beginnin' of "Good Life".

        heading in the right direction seems to focus more on highlighting the richness of australian jazz music in the early 1970s than it does on a finding a steady groove. to be true, there's a subtle groove on many of the tracks, but the styles abruptly vary from straight-ahead blues, samba, lounge, soul and jazz. it's one of those cases where the groove gets thrown off (do you know what i mean?). "sunbath" sounds like it would have fit better on brazilian thoroughfare and "i saw a flying saucer" wouldn't be out of place on one of the incredibly strange music cds. renee geyer's tracks sound like chicago-style blues, not bad, but probably not what you would expect from a luv n' haight compilation either. there's little cohesion here, but much of the music is interesting. the music is generally good as well, but compared to most other luv 'n haight compilations, this one lacks a power-packed punch.
