Sounds even better thirty years later........2006-09-14
When this album came out in 1975 this is all you heard throughout my college dorm. The sensual baritone of Ralph McTell
really did it for the ladies - and apparently still does.
I've given dozens of this album away and never one complaint.
In the parlance of Hollywood, McTell is sort of like Johnny Cash
meets Phil Ochs. These are songs of the lessons of life. If you
like Leonard Cohen you'll like Ralph McTell. Don't listen to the previous reviewer, this is a great songwriter and guitarist plying his craft. If you can, try to locate the almost impossible to find "Zimmerman Blues" and "Long Way from here to Clare."
Incidently, Kraftwerk was the reason the Pogues formed. The attitude was "Let's show 'em what human beings on instruments can do." That's what Ralph McTell is about.
The wankiest, most pretentious song ever written.......2005-09-19
"Streets of London"? Bleeeeuuuuuucccchhhhhh!
All I can say to anyone who sings this pretentious load of old cobblers is "Get folked!".
Along with "Where do you go to my lovely", "The Streets of London" is easily among the most pretentious and silly songs ever written. Good taste? Well, we ain't takin' Rameau, Frank, Buxtehude, Messiaen, Schnittke, Boulez, Kraftwerk or Brian Eno here! :-))
We're talkin' schlock an' schmaltz!
If you arrive at a dinner party and your host (or hostess) puts on this disc (or "Where do you go to my lovely"), I would strongly suggest that you politely, but promptly make your excuses and leave. Such a social occasion is likely to be inhabited by people who you will be well advised to avoid.
Just a friendly warning!
Ciao!
Classic British Folk Album.......2003-04-29
I came across Ralph McTell's Streets of London lp in a german record store in the mid seventies and became totally enamored of this British singer/songwriter's voice, guitar stylings, and song writing. Virtually unknown in the States, as are many of Britain's finest unfortunately, Ralph McTell seems to embody the glorious spirit of the British songwriter as storyteller tradition. I dug deep grooves in the vinyl in college, and learned many of the songs myself.
Many people in the States know of the song Streets of London, though they have little idea who sang it, but I will say that every song on this cd is a classic. Frankly I collected many of Ralph's lp's and none move me so much as this one. Particular favorites on the album are Lunar Lullaby, Grand Affair, and Red Apple Juice, all of which I have been playing and singing for the last twenty five years oh so, without benefit of having the album in my collection. I am so happy to see that it has been reissued on cd and look forward to playing it over and over again.
I would love to see a new awareness of Ralph's music in the States, though I fear that may only come in the form of late night musical infomercials, ala Roger Whitaker, Slim Whitman, and unfortuntely, I fear, Gordon Lightfoot. If you love a sonorous, deeply resonant voice, wonderful songwriting, and tastefull guitar playing, buy this cd. You will not be dissapointed.

OK, but get "Clare to Here" first........1999-05-18
This looks like a "greatest hits" collection by this most underrated of the great British singer-songwriters, but buyer beware. This is a set of Ralph's early songs and some blues covers, mostly recorded with just voice and guitar, dating from 1968-1969. Documentation is nonexistent except for notation of the authorship of the songs. The recording quality is not the best. Those exploring the extraordinary career and gifts of Ralph McTell would be much better off spending the extra money for the collection entitled "From Clare to Here," which contains a much broader range of Ralph's songs, better recorded and performed. That album is a five-star masterpiece. This one should primarily be of interest to Ralph's ardent fans, as it contains some rare early songs and covers perhaps not available elsewhere on CD. The performances are perfectly fine, but don't get this one until you have bought and memorized "From Clare to Here."

Album Description
This EP contains highlights from Piers' critically acclaimed debut, "Leave No Trace", released in Europe on Label Bleu. "Piers Faccini sings bluesy folk with assurance and delicacy" - Le Monde. "...offers aficionados of acoustic caressing a little masterpiece of urban-folk-blues" - Rolling Stone.
Customer Reviews:
Great mellow listen.......2007-01-05
Fans of Nick Drake or the indie-folk genre in general will likely enjoy this short EP by Piers Faccini for the same reason they enjoy the music of other indie-folk artists. The music is mellow, it's well-written, well-played, and it's totally relaxing, perfect after a long day at work/school. The vocals are unassuming, quiet, and smooth. The music is largely acoustic and includes guitars, strings (including an upright bass), piano, and light percussion. A strong jazz influence is noticeable in the syncopated rhythms Piers utilizes. Milder blues and even western African ("music of the Malian desert") flavors are also distinguishable, which figures... Piers was raised in England and France, a son of an English mother and Italian father, he's had some experience with different world cultures. Also check out Piers' newest release, "Tearing Sky."
Hidden Gem.......2006-04-20
Like Nick Drake or contemporary Ben Harper, this ep is smooth and beautiful.

Would be better with a different title.......2006-08-27
I didn't look close enough at the track list before buying this. I was very excited to see a soundtrack of the BBC versions of The Chronicles of Narnia, since I love the music in them (not to mention the movies in general). Unfortunately, the Narnia music is only the first 7 tracks.
The whole CD has great music, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't been expecting the whole thing to be Narnia. A lot of the other music on it reminds me of Sherlock Holmes music. It is a great CD, and I definitely recommend it...but don't expect a full CD of Narnia music.
BBC Narnia music=magical.......2006-04-10
I never get tired of hearing this narnia music over and over again. Mr. Burgon really captures the heart and soul of Narnia through his music. In opinion, it easily surpasses the new film music at times (both Tumnus themes are very good).
I did not care for all the choral (enya-like) music from the new film, and this music has none of that.

Album Description
Pop-rock, hip hop with a double shot of funk on top.
A cross between Pink, Shirley Manson, and Madonna, this 1st release of rock/electronica artist Skye Marsden leaves the listener wanting more. Confessional song writing combined with funky basses, and worldy instruments including an electric sitar and cellos, create a c.d. chock-full of non-stop energy. Skye's voice and attitude have the ability to pull you in sweetly, then sting like a bee. The aggressive single "Supergirl" is a stand-out with European radio.
Customer Reviews:
Fun!.......2005-08-03
A wonderful mix of songs that are a ton of fun to listen to. Skye seems to be a combination of Shirley Manson and Belinda Carlisle and the music is worthy of her singing voice.
