Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Customer Reviews:
We're sending our love down a well..........2007-05-07
Unfortunately, I have to agree with the first reviewer. The reverby sound renders this cd almost too painful to listen to. Which is a shame, for I feel that these are some of the greatest pieces written for the guitar. Perhaps Halasz can record a second cd for those of us who prefer an intimate "guitar in your living room" sound, rather than the "guitarist trapped in a well" sound.
Great Recording of Takemitsu's Solo Guitar Works.......2007-04-26
I'm going to have to disagree with the first review. There is quite a bit of reverb on the recording, but it doesn't sound like it was recorded in a high school gymnasium. I think the sound is warm, rich, well-balanced and quite appropriate, but apparently it's a matter of taste. There is a great deal of direct sound atop the ambience, and these compositions/arrangements sound very nice in the chosen environment. I'm not sure a much drier space would have been very complimentary to these pieces, especially considering the specifics of their technical challenges and the way many parts are voiced.
As for Halasz's playing, it's brilliant. Sometimes I think I could stand for him to take a little more time with some of the phrases and things; but really, so much of timing and phrasing and shaping, in Takemitsu's music, is meant to be left totally up to the performer, and I think Halasz has done a mighty fine job with interpretations (I especially like the Folios at the tempo he's chosen) This is an album of wonderful compositions/arrangements played technically and musically better than I've ever heard them. I highly, highly reccommend it. Give it a listen on iTunes or something before you buy it and see what you think of the sound. I've never written such an album review before, but I felt strongly enough about this recording to do so. I hope you'll give it a chance.

Takemitsu Discovers Reverb.......2007-03-13
I was excited to have a complete solo guitar recording of Takemitsu,s work. The recording quality of this work , however is very painful to listen to.
Drenched in ambient reverb from the church in Sweden and one track from a concert hall in Germany, one has to dig through a virtual wall of sonic sludge to hear Takemitsu,s brilliant arrangements/compositions.
This is a real as shame as the guitarist , Franz Halasz has a masterful command of his instrument and the material at hand. Hopefully someone will record this body of work so we can enjoy listening and not feel like the performance took place at a high school gymnasium.

Customer Reviews:
Are we not men?.......2007-04-29
This Japanese import takes their cue from Devo, and sustains a punkish energy full of synth warbles and squeaks, as well as smartly-styled pop that always stays on the upbeat. While some of these songs will appear in later releases, the marerial is both inventive and energetic. In fact, it's probably unfair to lump this in the "Devo" category; they've long since made strides to make their sound more frenetic and exciting.
Japanese for "*&^%$#@!!!".......2006-04-20
Polysics are an odd Japanese hybrid of new wave/synth pop, punk, electro and all-out noise warfare. Supposedly they're heavily influenced by Devo but it's kind of hard to tell by this release, unless the lyrics take a similar absurdist slant. Again, hard to tell since the lyrics are indecipherable--they could be in English, Japanese, Swahili or Esperanto for all I know. Of course, like most Japanese bands that make it Stateside, the lyrics are the last things one would notice. On "Hey! Bob! My Friend!" they come off like a totally bonkers bio-mechanical experiment using the recombinant DNA of Melt Banana, Brainiac and classic Atari video games. If you understood any of that then give yourself some hipster brownie points. Or maybe you're just a total nerd. Guess which one I am? Oh, hell, just buy the CD already.
Funky Fresh.......2005-04-29
This album is a refreshment from the Japanese Beverage Co. No, all of this does not make sense but, that is the good of it. You have little noises and big ones that just have you scratching and bobbing your head. No one says that this is dancable but, you can still go crazy with it. I find that this would be a great album to drive to a big city and just cruise through the freeways. If you like this checkout the Blood Brothers and/or the Ex Girls.
Along with all of that it is adventous and entertaining. I would have to say this is Japanese Noise at the the top but not the greatest.
Crazy and nice.......2005-03-29
Some friends of mine got lucky enough to see Polysics recently at one of their concerts and while there got this cd. I listened to it and got addicted enough to get a copy for myself! The songs on this CD are utterly insane, but that's what makes them so cool! I listen to this cd every morning to wake myself up while driving. It's fast and wild!
Too much noise, anyway!.......2004-12-10
The Polysics from Japan refer to Devo when it comes to describe main influences . . . well, compared to the japanese people even the wonderful Devo where more sort of a pop band. I mean, they also made some kind of unusual noise, as we all know. But that noise made sense, it made people go mad on the dancefloor. The Polysics, compared to Devo, are awful and terribly bad. They make too much noise which is very boring after some few of their attacks. It's not Punk, it's not New Wave, it's not Devo. Sorry my friends, you have failed. And then forget about the singer. He cannot sing at all, maybe that's why you can barely hear him at all. His screams are hidden behind the noise wall of the musicians. When I heard that a mutated band from Japan who is even dressing a bit Devo-ish has come up, I was pleased and very curious. Now i must say, that Devo fans better listen to The Network. That's a great band. And they know how to keep the inheritance of Devo properly!
