About the Artist
Julia has loved music and singing all her life, and began teaching piano theory and voice after graduating from Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music. Her exposure to gospel music came after she became a born-again Christian at age 34. She has recorded four gospel albums while continuing to train, give recitals, and teach. In 2003 she wrote her first gospel songs in co-operation with two award-winning writers on the CD "Into the Light". Her most recent CD "Emmanuel - God With Us" is a mixture of Christmas carols and classical Christmas music, in several languages.

Product Description
Julia recorded this CD in response to repeated requests from others, especially her brother Rick, to record a Christmas album. It combines Julia's classical background and well-known Christmas carols. It includes a French verse, Silent Night in the original German, a Latin song and, of course, English. This was also made to celebrate Julia's 60th birthday in 2005.

i grew up in a traditional presbyterian church that had a pipe organ. i wanted a cd of many of the hymns that we sang in church sung by a choir and accompanied by a pipe organ. this cd fulfilled my wishes perfectly. the hymns are performed in a very straight-forward fashion with no show-boating or excess flourishes which is exactly what i wanted. this is not gospel music but what i refer to as liturgical music to indicate that it is religious music but not gospel music. i would give it 5 stars but there is a slight hiss. other than that the recording quality is very good.

This is a must for all trombonists and music historians!! The sound of these groups is just amazing! Nowhere else can you get a sound like you do with the instruments that these trombonists use. Where else can you hear a contrabass, bass, tenor, alto, soprano, and sopranino trombones all together? A great CD for a historical reference on the trombone also...tromobone chiors are one of the oldest forms of music, and THE oldest perfoming groups in the USA are the Moravian trombone choirs. This CD gives us a rare look into the past of how trombones were commonly used in centuries past, and how the tradition continues today.

5 out of 5 stars Favorite Moravian chorales from childhood........1999-11-20

Trombone choirs! I love them. Everytime I hear this recording, I see again the church of my childhood and the trombone choir standing out in the snow near the front steps playing Christmas chorales during the hour before the Christmas Eve service. Why were they out there a full hour before the service? If you wanted a seat, you had to arrive an hour early, because late comers sat in folding chairs in the cloakrooms, or stood in the back. That church was filled to brimming only on Christmas Eve, because music lovers came from miles away to hear traditional Moravian Christmas music, and where else could one possibly hear it? Some of it is on this recording. The words sung to track 8 are "All my heart this night rejoices...", and that sense of anticipation and pleasure is exactly what Moravians feel as they enjoy a night of great music, sung mostly by the people in the pews, not just the choirs. It's all here. The great songs from Advent, Lent, songs of repentance, forgiveness, joy, for baptising babies and burying old people. When you hear track 19, Hosanna, think of a room full of singers on Palm Sunday, echoing back and forth to each other, the little girls and women singing back to the boys and men. My only criticism is that there are perhaps too many songs in minor keys grouped together. They evoke too much sadness and start to sound like endless dirges. The musical interpretation and masterful rendering of the chorales is absolutely delightful, not only for us who hold all the words in our heads and are singing along, but also for those who will assign their own meaning to the music.

This album provides 2.5 hours of excellent carols, from excellent choirs and soloists, and with great sound. I was worried that a compilation this large, and with such an extravagent title, would be B-side offerings, but that's not the case at all.

This isn't an album if you are looking for something "fresh and new." The arrangements are traditional, and even newer carols are done in a fairly conservative style. But that said, some of the pieces provide the best orchestration and voice arrangement I have ever heard. This is like the pinnacle of the classic English Christmas carol; clean, precise, glorious and celebratory.

This album contains traditional carols performed in a traditional way at the best quality. It is an excellent album to ensure the spirit of christmas is present and to bring the true meaning of christmas back. The double CD selection has all the golden favourites as well as not so wellknown carols to complete a very good christmas album. Merry Christmas to you all!

    I can't believe it. This is the first "Christmas" disc I ever bought and am still regularly listening to ... nine months post-holiday, now!

    This collection is replete with sparks of worship and awe. The festive jaunt embarks on a well-executed, majestic baroque piece, slipping into some flitty operatics. The mood shifts from aristocratic regalism to rich, emotive ethnicity in the climactic, folk dance-feel of entries 3 & 4. The transition between the two is gorgeous. {Who compiled this disc? Give that wo/man a raise! I have never heard such juxtapositional mastery on any professional compilation before. Chillout comp "masters", listen and weep!!}

    Not only is this CD emotionally satiating with expert arrangement/transitions, it is well-balanced in style: from traditional to experimental, pointed to ethereal, instrumental to acapella ... voices male and female, youthful and mature. The frosty choral majesty of pockets No. 5 and interlude 9 through 13 bestow upon the listener such a sweet uplift into the spirit of praise. This inspirational thrust underlies a generous portion of this disc. For the first time in years I have decided upon a personal "favorite song", and that is #11. The "engagement ring diamond commercial" residue doesn't interfere too much with enjoying the effervescent, Vivaldi-ish No. 15. A few organ pieces are thrown in for good measure (the final, surprising one always evoking a good chuckle).

    While there are certainly many standouts I listen to far more regularly than other ballads, this is a solid disc of excellent, well-executed music. My muddled blabbering on here cannot do this CD justice. This is one of the very best CDs in my personal collection. The Hyperion Label should be very proud of this release. If you are seeking a festive potpourri of aural exaltation, the charming incense of Christmas Throughout the Ages will not disappoint.

    Incidentally, the track listing on Amazon is currently inaccurate - either that, or they have the wrong title and cover art for their product number here. Yikes! In the interim, go to the Hyperion-Records UK website to see the real list until Amazon rectifies this listing.

    3 out of 5 stars Probably of interest to purists & students.......2002-12-05

    I sure don't want to imply that this is a poor album. If you like classical music, you'll find much to enrich your soul here. However, when one considers the huge choice of classical Christmas offerings, this one just doesn't strike me as being above average for the genre.

    For a larger overview of great classical Christmas music, I think "Christmas Adagios" is much more satisfying. "Christmas With Chanicleer" and "The #1 Christmas Album" are other highly pleasing and comprehensive collections, each with more that is familiar and can be related with.

    However, if you have the chance to sample this, do so. But I do advise listening and comparing with other sets before buying.

    This album is great, but I'm looking for a song that either the Mississippi childrens choir sung or Mississippi Mass Choir sung. I believe it goes: As I travel down lifes highway, of trials great and small, I often wonder to myself if the journey is worth it all. All the pain I must endure, sometimes its much to bare and the only thing that gives me strength, is knowing you really care, so let me take this time to say thankyou lord for every day how you love me and kept me as I travel along lifes way.     He Can Fix What Is Broke, has really been a blessing to me. Thank you MS MASS for a job well done. This particular song is really a testimonial song for myself as well as another choir member in which we will be doing lead on. Oh I can't seem to tell you how much this song has really given my spirit man a lift, and gave me hope that whatever I am going thru, God not only can fix, but He already has fixed my problems. such as sickness, heartbrokeness, rejection, abuse etc., Oh I thank God for delieverance. To you who are hurting just give it to Jesus and I am a witness that if you do, He can fix whatever. Glory to Jesus, all you have to do is to call upon Him, and as Sis Rogina says with such powerful anointing, He Can Fix What is Broke.......Be Blessed in the Lord, and if you haven't purchased this cd you need to add it to you collection,

    Hey Everybody!!! If you think LISTENING to this song rocks your spirit, check out the VIDEO!!! I have it and seeing the choir in action will REALLY get you on your feet and dancing for the Lord!!! Everytime I see it, I CANNOT sit still!!! Tears roll down my face ( tears of JOY ) and I sing and dance my heart out!!! Also, I don't know if it will work, if all else fails, put your TV on closed caption and maybe, just MAYBE, the words will appear on the bottom of your screen!             Album Description

            Julia recorded this CD in response to repeated requests from others, especially her brother Rick, to record a Christmas album. It combines Julia's classical background and well-known Christmas carols. It includes a French verse, Silent Night in the original German, a Latin song and, of course, English. This was also made to celebrate Julia's 60th birthday in 2005.
