This is a collection of old, pre-1950s Irish folk and art-song recordings, made before the folk revival of the '60s and '70s. It's probably too tame and fusty for the average Celtic music fan, but it's still pretty interesting. Well-programmed, with good sound quality and song selection.

      Fans of Celtic-rooted acoustic music are well aware of the premier offerings that Maggie's Music makes available to this widely popular genre. Some very highly recommended additions to personal and community library CD music collections would necessarily include Carolan's Gift showcasing traditional Irish folk music in the manner of famed Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738) with a chamber music style performed on Celtic harp, Irish flute, fiddle, hammered dulcimer, viola da gamba, guitar, and piano.         This is so relaxing!Just a man and his piano.His playing is so heartfelt and just flows...this is perfect to kick back with and meditate.While I 'm no expert on Irish music,I have had the pleasure of visiting once,and I can appreciate the way Tim O'neill expresses his sentiments towards that lovely land!

        This is a very relaxing and easy to listen to album of beautiful Irish melodies. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the New Paltz, NY Arts and Crafts Fair in May of 2000 and was very impressed by his and his brother,Ryan's, music. I will certainly purchase more of their albums.

          Craicmore's release "too bad for heaven, too good for hell..." is an engaging mix of jigs and reels, Scots and Irish songs and haunting melodies. The CD provides an irresistible showcase for the seductive vocals, driving rhythms and adventuresome arrangements that have earned this L.A.- based foursome an ever-growing following of fans.

          Too Bad For Heaven, Too Good For Hell is the group's second CD. Produced by John MacAdams, the 12 tracks are proof positive that Craicmore is a group that's not only willing to take chances, but that combines musical versatility with musical expertise and, maybe most importantly, plays for the sheer joy of playing.

          Among the selections are favorites such as "The Mooncoin Jig," "Kid on the Mountain," "Banish Misfortune," and "The Bucks of Oranmore." MacAdams treats listeners to a bit of his own wide-ranging musical interests on the intriguingly textured "Didgeridoo/Curlew." Mated with "The Wind That Shakes the Barely," the familiar "I'll Tell Me Ma" is a musical romp through Irish, country and bluegrass traditions. A more mature relationship is explored in "Sí Do Mhameo Í," the band's wry eye underscored by Nancy Johnston's and MacAdams' vocals and an arrangement that captures the song's rhythms through cello, clackers, guitar and electric bass. Johnston's rich, smoky vocals are featured on Robbie Burns' "Brose and Butter and The De'il's Awa' wi' th' Exciseman" and the Scots Gaelic "Seallaibh Curaigh Eoghainn." But the album's centerpiece is the "Cape Clear Set." A celebration of notes that takes the listener through the "Cape Clear" air and "Morrison's Jig" to the singing of "Gi'e Me ! A Lass Wi' a Lump o' Land" and concludes with "High Road to Linton" and "Atholl Highlanders," the set is, says the band, "the heart and soul of our sound."

          Easily one of the finest bands around today, Craicmore's "Too bad for heaven, too good for hell..." is a celtic eclectic mix of sound and rhythm guaranteed to move your feet and fill your soul. Singer Nancy's vocals weave perfectly in and around Craicmore's unique musical landscape. Absolutely love that Didgeridoo. The only thing better than listening to this CD is seeing them live. Better yet. Do both.

          I am a great fan of Celtic music and believe I am familiar with most of the Celtic bands in and around Los Angeles. Craicmore is, far and away, my favorite Celtic. I have brought many friends to hear her sing -people who previously had no interest in Celtic music.Invariably, these friends become fans. A large part of what makes the band so good is the rich, deep and powerful voice of Nancy Johnston. She is truly phenomenal. I look forward to more Craicmore cd's in the future.

          This is music to soothe the savage traffic jam. I love to play the CD again and again to hear the clear vocals, wonderful harmony, wonderful instrumentation, and festive arrangements. They are a band who take their music seriously, yet make it fun while they do it.

          The CD is second only to their live performances. Fortunately, being in Southern California I have the pleasure of both.
