Album Description
This triple CD release was mixed by Om family members Chuck Love, Groove Junkies, and DJ Fluid and features chunky, funky, soulful, and sensual house, hand designed for your summertime aural pleasure. Groove Junkies have crafted a style influenced by soul, funk, r&b, gospel, and Latin rhythms. Pumping grooves, uplifting lyrics, and undeniable hooks are their signature elements. DJ Fluid, founder and head honcho of Om, creates his diverse sound from combining everything from Chicago House to Nu Jazz to Brazilian rhythms. Chuck Love (aka Charlie Erickson) found his calling behind the decks and mic where the groove is musical and solid; good vibes flow out of the hi-fi as infectious hooks float, smoky chords punch, and solos fly.

All about Disc 1.......2006-12-20
Maybe I've gotten spoiled by Miguel Migs and some of Naked Music's offerings. Discs 2 and 3 of this set are some of the most monotonous sounding, unoriginal mixes and vibes I've heard in a while.
Disc 1 is a totally different story, however. HOT grooves, thumpin' bass, and powerhouse vocals scattered throughout make OM SUMMER SESSIONS worth buying. A couple of gospel house tunes were a very nice surprise on an early morning ride to work when I felt like going back to bed -- especially when the gospel diva herself, Ann Nesby, makes a thrilling appearance. She doesn't even sing on her own albums like she does here.
I guess performances like that and the overall goodness of the first disc were what set my expectation for the rest of the set, which is shockingly dull by comparison. 2/3 of this collection of tunes is mediocre so I can't give the complete set more than 3 stars.
That said -- disc 1 is one of the best dance discs extant, almost up there with Naked Music's stuff. You'll have to decide if it's worth the baggage that it carries with it, lol.
Funky grooves.......2006-08-24
It doesn't take very long to establish a groove on this 3 cd set: possibly 3 minutes at most. The funky quality of the album reminds me of the likes of Soulive. There are male vocals on pretty much every track on the first disc. This is my first house of Om compilation so there are crowd cheers on some of the tracks as it is supposed to be live. My favorite grooves on the first disc have to be Ron Hall's "The way you love me" and Frankie Knuckles "Disco Shimmy." Micky More's "Victory Dance" carries the second album well. It is surrounded by some alright tracks. Audiowhores "Not going back" establishes a nice groove with horns sounding and the album ends well with Fourfeet. DJFluid's whole set is good, and adds the techno edge to the cds. There are some cool bass lines on all 3 cd's and some decent female vocals. Overall, a good compilation of funky grooves.

Album Description
The compelling voice, personality, and mystique of superstar Ann-Margret is showcased on gospel and inspirational songs in this, Ann-Margret's first-ever gospel music album. Her celebrated singing style is blended with the top gospel music interpreters in their field, The Jordanaires, The Light Crust Doughboys, and James Blackwood, resulting in an incredibly moving and dynamic sound featuring soaring gospel quartet harmonies and sensational country, rockabilly, and folk music instrumentation.
Customer Reviews:
It will lull you to sleep!.......2007-07-04
Ann Margret sounds like an angel on this excellent recording of gospal music. I fell in love with her Christmas CD and just purchased this. Great inspirational songs and great arrangements make this a must cd for Ann Margret fans.
not my cup of tea.......2005-08-04
Since I have everything a.m. has recoreded I was suprised to find I had missed this one. Unfort i could live without this one. Songs are outdated and the arrangements are too cheesy.
feel the spirit.......2004-12-25
Ann-Margret's depth and sensitivity have rarely truly been recognized, and Hollywood has not done her justice; I've admired her for decades, and it's a pleasure to hear this CD with the fruit of her collaboration with Art Greenhaw, who produced the album, wrote eight of the twelve songs (some specifically for Ann-Margret), plays bass guitar, piano and percussion with his Light Crusty Doughboys, and sings lead in"Peace in the Valley".
Ann-Margret sings on seven tracks as lead with her warm, sweet voice, and with Art on two. Art has a deep, rich voice that has a gorgeous tone, and his songs are full of wisdom and truth; "The High Road" should be framed and read as a daily reminder for common sense and good living.
Others who make this CD a spirit-filled experience are The Jordanaires (Ray Walker co-wrote with Art and sings lead in the marvelous '50s flavored "God's Silver Soldiers") and James Blackwood, who sings "I Am a Pilgrim" and joins Art in "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands".
The rest of the Light Crusty Doughboys are guitarist Jerry Elliott, who sings lead on "In the Garden", Bill Simmons on keyboards (I'm a big fan of Bill's feisty, masterful piano playing), John Walden and Jim Baker on those terrific fiddles, and the wonderful Marvin "Smokey" Montgomery on banjo, guitar and vibes.
The sound is excellent, the foldout insert includes recording info, the lyrics for 7 of Art's songs, photos, and liner notes by Art. Total playing time is 39'03.
Also highly recommended is "Always Hear the Harmony", the album Art recorded with Engelbert Humperdinck, which is top-notch, uplifting, soulful gospel music.
Great Gospel Songs---Great Ann-Margret!.......2004-01-12
This is one of the greatest country gospel CDs of all time, great songs, great stylistic vocal interpretations by Ann-Margret, perfect backing and accompaniment by The Jordanaires and The Light Crust Doughboys. Evidently the world and the music industry think this is one of the albums of the year, since it was awarded Grammy and Dove Nominations for best album in its field. If any Ann-Margret fans who only desire that she sing lounge music will stick to reviewing what they know about, then new fans will get a much more realistic view of the wide-ranging talents of one of the female pop singers of the century: Ann-Margret! Check out all the awards received by this ground-breaking album!
Ann Margaret is great, but doesn't save this project.......2003-12-01
I love ann Margaret, she's a lounge singer legend, however I'd rather hear her sing the lounge classic "13 Men". Gospel music should be sung by Roy Rogers & Dale evans, Ann should be singing Cole Porter and Gershwin, better luck next time, Ann baby...

A favorite for 30 years.......2006-10-05
Like the next reviewer, I had this on record, and now have the CD. I have loved this music for 30 years. If you love 20th century American music, give it a try. I wish you as much pleasure as I have received from it.
Proof that American songs can be great.......2002-07-05
I have had the lp issue of this album for many years and have enjoyed it more with each encounter. The songs by Duke, Bowles, Citkowitz, Chanler, and Copland are based on some familiar poems, but the songs are not, themselves, well-known. I particularly have liked the witty and memorable Duke settings of E.A. Robinson's "Luke Havergal" and "Miniver Cheevy," but the real musical highlight of the disc would probably be the settings of James Joyce's "Chamber Music" by Israel Citkowitz. Donald Gramm is in fine voice for his selections and Bethany Beardslee proves again her legendary status as an interpreter of all kinds of modern music. It is definitely a good thing that this has been reissued on CD and I hope it will reach a wide audience.

An American Classic.......2002-06-11
During the '50's and early '60's Mercury recorded some of the lesser known American composers. This particular selection which I originally had on a mono-LP is one of my favorites, and probably the best of Colin McPhee's compositions. Roger Sessions' "The Black Maskers" is also an excellant little heard American Classic. As a bonus the CD includes Virgil Thomson's "Symphony On A Hymn Tune" which was not on the LP.
For anyone interested in American composers, any of the Howard Hanson conducting the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra - American Composer series are excellantly recorded CD's and highly recommended.
American Gamelan Music from 1936!.......2001-05-30
This will not be a review of the CD, since it is unavailable. I do want to pass on, however, my enthusiasm for Tabuh-Tabuhan. WGBH radio played it this morning (May 29, 2001) and I was mesmerized. An American composition from 1936 from Colin McPhee -- but it sounded like Lou Harrison or Alan Hovhannes, 50 or 60 years later. If anyone is tempted to believe that minimalism 'sprung fully armed from the head of Zeus' sometime in the '60s, he should listen to this wonderful totally American work and disabuse himself of the idea immediately.
Bring it back, Mercury. There is an overwhelming resurgance of interest in American classical music of the 20th century and labels are raking it in reissuing these recordings of everyone, including Foss, Bowles, Blitzstein, Schuman, etc. etc.

Album Description
Marlon Saunders, the soulful voice behind 2003's Enter My Mind, hailed by Billboard, Vibe and Straight No Chaser as one of the best soul recordings in recent years, gives us the greatly anticipated A Groove So Deep: The Live Sessions. Unlike most live albums, A Groove So Deep is not a recording of a performance before a screaming audience. For this project, Marlon decided to bring his band, Mood Control, together for a series of sessions in which the musicians experimented with different approaches to favorites from his critically-acclaimed debut release, Enter My Mind, and songs written especially for the new project. From over 14 hours of recorded material, Marlon selected just over 70 minutes to become A Groove So Deep: The Live Sessions.
Customer Reviews:
The power and at the same time the magic of A Groove So Deep is.......2006-08-12
A Groove So Deep: the live sessions is Marlon Saunders' second solo album. His first critically acclaimed album "Enter My Mind" was realeased in 2003. A Groove So Deep is a selection of live recordings where Marlon and his band Mood Control go as deep into the groove as their musical spirits and wits take them. And that's very deep in the heritage of black music.
A Groove So Deep contains thirteen tracks full of jazz, soul, funk and emotions. Five of them you'll recognize from "Enter My Mind" while Love Philosophy has previously been recorded with Jazzhole. The track Declaring Love might remind some of you of a superb edition of Soul and The City ,a column Marlon writes for SaveOurSoul.nl, which also has a spoken version for the radio broadcast. The power and at the same time the magic of A Groove So Deep is that it creates the feeling that Marlon and his wonderful musicians of Mood Control are giving a private concert, because you do not hear a screaming live audience on this CD.The only one(s) screaming and singing along will be you and your company while listening to these live sessions.(TA)
Stand Out Tracks: Afro Blue My Mind, I Wanna Get Next To You, The Beginning Of Never, A Groove So Deep, Love Philosophy, Declaring Love, Inspiration, Coolin'
Wow!.......2006-03-29
This guy is for real. I came up listening to all the great soul singers of the 60's and 70's and none of them has anything on Marlon Saunders. I have the studio album, Enter My Mind and it is great, but I am partial to well recorded live albums and this CD makes me want to go hear him live right away. I hope somebody brings him to Seattle soon. He is not well known out here so I would recommend he try to play something like Bumbershoot, the Labor Day music festival where a lot people would be able to hear him. A Groove So Deep and Coolin' are my favorite tracks on the CD but they are all slammin'. His band Mood Control sounds great too, real musicians.
A Rare find.......2005-10-25
I love Marlon Saunders and I especially love this new CD. I loved his first CD Enter My MInd but this live joint is amazing. I saw Marlon live with his band a few weeks ago at the Cutting Room in NYC with Angela Johnson. It was so amazing to see him live. He is so beautiful and sexy and he sang my favorite song Inspiration! If you want to hear good soul music then look no further. He is soul music's biggest star. I love you Marlon.
What a Soul CD should sound like!!!!.......2005-09-05
Marlon Saunders-Groove So Deep just raise the bar even higher Live Real Soul Music is slowly coming back..support this cd and you will truly enjoy every cut
Soul music with real musicians!.......2005-08-14
I loved Marlon Saunders' Enter My Mind, but A Groove So Deep is on another level. This is some raw soul music, where the whole band is together at the same time, not performing for an audience, but vibin' together as musicians. No matter how many times you listen to it, you will hear something new--somethin' cool the vocalists do creating background harmonies, somethin' funky happenin' on the bass or drums, somethin' jazzy on the piano, flute or sax, just the right rhythm on the congas--It may sound strange to say about a contemporary R & B recording, but Groove is actually exciting to listen to...This one's worth the money, because you'll want to play it again and again...just to see what you missed the last time.

Previously unreleased late-60s/early-70s pop gem.......2001-07-25
It's rare to discover a fully realized album that's never been released. Rarer still to find one that's worth listening to; one that is so wonderfully musical and evocative of its era. In many ways this previously unreleased album is like the "new old stock" so treasured by car nuts and collectors of many types. Such items are vintage in origin, but mint in condition. They're kept pristine in their original packaging, unused by others, yet retain the original, vital stamp of their era.
The Addrisi Brothers, Don and Richard, recorded this album hot on the heels of their songwriting breakthrough (courtesy of the Association), "Never My Love." With their tune topping the charts they were able to land a recording deal and waxed (well, taped, actually) a full album of original songs. Though the sessions were artistically successful, personnel changes at their record label stranded the results in the vaults. Until now.
The Addrisi's end-of-the-60s palate shared the sort of carefree happiness and melancholy sadness found on top-40 hits like "Smile a Little Smile for Me," "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Grows)," and "Hitchin' a Ride." Their music ranged from Left Banke baroque pop to Magical Mystery Tour psychedelia, with imaginative hints of steel guitar and Burt Bacharach-esque (or perhaps "Love American Style") horn charts thrown in for good measure. Their vocals borrowed harmonies from both the Beach Boys and the Everly Brothers, and included some moments that bring to mind Davy Jones (and perhaps Paul McCartney's) more theatrical sides.
There are numerous daydreams running through their lyrics, including hippie meanderings, happy home lives (not unlike Graham Nash's "Our House"), and the utopian view of a blind woman's companion. It might all seem a bit precious if it didn't capture a certain 1970 vibe so perfectly. Ironically, their souled-up version of "Never My Love" may be the least interesting track on the album - not bad, but not on-par with that which the Association produced.
With the release of this missing LP, one can more clearly view the Addrisi's transition from Everly Brothers styled teen-pop singers of the late 50s (for Del Fi, available on the "Cherrystone" CD) to chart-topping songwriters and early-70s minor-hitmakers (with the single, "We've Got to Get It on Again"). The arc of their performing career may have been cut short by the random hirings and firings of the music industry, but the art of their work is here for all to hear. It's a shame this album didn't get a contemporary release and promotional push, as there are some beautiful songs here that would have fit early 70s playlists perfectly. Now, instead of remembering these as hits from another era, listeners can discover them as new.
