great singers, great songs.......2006-05-03
Some of broadway's best singers are on this album, including Brian Stokes Mitchell, Debbie Gravitte, Marin Mazzie, and Rebecca Luker. (The cd is worth buying for Rebecca Luker's song alone!) The songs are beautifully orchestrated and sung. Most are light hearted and fun, leaving me with a good feeling when listening.
If you're a fan of broadway showtunes, I believe you'll enjoy this album.

Album Description
In 1997 the hardcore scene was in dire need of a sense of humor. Four Vegan Straightedge dudes from Washington, D.C. (where it all began) stepped up to the challenge. Good Clean Fun was formed. They set out on a three-year non-stop tour to spread positivism to the whole planet as only hardcore band can do. Two 7âs and two full-lengths later and shows in 35 countries, from Austria to Australia, from New England to England, from the beaches of Hawaii to the fjords of Norway (and so on) the message was delivered. In 2002, the band returned home and released a Discography CD on Equal Vision Records. In 2004 the band stayed true to its word and did a reunion tour. It went so well that Good Clean Fun was inspired to release another album. Equal Vision Records heard it and was behind it 100%. Staying true to form, the band has released their greatest album yet. Between Christian Rock And A Hard Placewill once again put the emphasis on positive hardcore and controversy. Be forewarned and catch the band on tour at a city near you in 2006.

Good Clean Fun - Between Christian Rock And A Hard Place.......2006-02-11
Warning: If you do not have a sense of humor, I would advise you to stop reading this review, because you will not enjoy Good Clean Fun. If you prefer a little fun with your music, then do we have an album for you! Singer/songwriter Mr. Issa always had the idea of Good Clean Fun back in 1985 and how he would make a perfect hardcore band, but never acted on it. After bands like Crucial Youth and Gorilla Biscuits broke up, hardcore began to lose the main reason Issa got into hardcore way back then, and that was fun. Finally feeling the timing was right, Issa took his idea of GCF and turned into an actual band, and thus they hit the road, playing thousands of shows all over the world and preaching their message of positive hardcore. After a short break from playing, Good Clean Fun is back with "Between Christian Rock And A Hard Place," a refreshing hardcore disc that touches on everything from MySpace to vampires. With 12 songs in place, Mr. Issa and crew-bassist Justin Ingstrup, guitarists Kelly Green and Aaron Mason, and drummer Danny McClure-are bound to bring out a few chuckles from their listeners.
The album begins with "A Little Bit Emo, A Little Bit Hardcore," an upbeat chunky song about a strange romance between an emo boy and a hardcore girl. "Positive Hardcore" is more of an introduction song of the band and their beliefs. Fast and to the point, this track will echo in your brain all day. "Between Christian Rock And A Hard Place" is a song that questions how Christianity got mixed in punk rock. Upbeat and in your face, this track will be a fan favorite. "Drop The Knife" begins with crushing guitars, only to slow down to pick up the pace and break your neck. "Punk Rock Love" is another fast song with fun lyrics like "He makes me feel alive/we protest side by side/I love how those tear-gas tears bring out his eyes." "Ex-Straightedge-Ex" is a quick song about breaking up with your Vegan or straightedge girlfriend. "...Except For All The Goths" begins with a funny interlude with a Dracula-sounding voice speaking over spooky techno music, which then leads into Issa's gruff vocals over pounding guitars and a bouncy beat. Finally, the album ends with the hilarious "The MySpace Song" which begins slowly with Issa swooning over an acoustic guitar about meeting your true love and then getting dumped on the wildly-popular website. This song also incorporates my favorite lyrics from the entire album, an example being "I know that websites don't kill/but sometimes they will break hearts/I know that I'm an adult/but Tom it's your fault you created a monster." This song will seriously have you laughing your ass off, especially if you dislike MySpace like I do. Also, after the last track is over, fast-forward a bit to hear a hilarious yet serious skit about being straightedge.
After a very successful 2005, Equal Vision Records is on the right track again in 2006 with the release of Good Clean Fun's "Between Christian Rock And A Hard Place." Now, while all the songs are funny and the music is solid, this album does not possess a lot of staying power and a lot of songs tend to blend together. But, even if the lyrics aren't very thought provoking and the music is nothing groundbreaking, this is still a good, catchy as herpes album that'll have you moshing and laughing at the same time. So, if the winter blues have you down, go pick up Good Clean Fun's "Between Christian Rock And A Hard Place," it'll definitely leave you in good spirits.

POSI HARDCORE - not christian music!.......2006-02-02
Don't even listen to the guy above me. He's obviously a bit ignorant when it comes to hardcore music. Who on earth would buy this record thinking it could POSSIBLY be heart filled Jesus jams? NO ONE! because IT'S NOT!
anyway, that being said: if you like DC posi hardcore that will make you giggle and sing-a-long at the same time, then this record is for you! issa's ability to take underground pop culture themes and turn them into short catchy songs is uncanny and no one else can do it quite like GCF.
this record will pull you up from the depths of despair where current trustkill and victory bands have led you. it's totally positive, totally catchy, totally punk, and totally sincere (except for the part about JESUS...IDIOTS!).
thank God (and the holy ghost, and Jesus, and the Bible - that's a joke kids!), for these guy. at least someone out there still has a sense of humor and wants to have fun!
Unholy.......2006-01-31
For anyone buying this record thinking its from a christian band, you're a fool. This record contains some of the most unholy lyrics i've ever heard, and the cover art in a slap in the face of christ's last supper. As you can imagine, most of the songs are jokes about the current trend of "christan" emo bands, and believe me, I'm as sick of them as the next guy. But as someone who consideres themselves a believer, I was really pissed when I heard good clean fun's "christian rock".

Customer Reviews:
I JUST WANT TO HAVE GOOD CLEAN FUN!.......2004-06-04
This band is great straight edge or not. I am not a straight edger and not a vegan either (nor a vegetarian) but I love these guys a lot (I like sxe bands though so I guess my own testimonal doesn't really cut it). Anyways GCF are great! Not only do they pay plenty of homage to great bands of yore (ex: Minor Threat, Gorilla Biscuits (with the opening riff of saving the streets... right off of Start Today!), 7 Seconds and so on) and they didn't get as preachy or facist as their contempories (Floor Punch, Ten Yard Fight and One King Down being some examples). This is hardcore for everyone from straight edgers to skins (if I'm down with straight and your down with skins than we'll mosh together cuz' who shares wins). Nothing pretensious or preachy about it. And the best part is that this is not a glam hardcore band, thank god. I am getting so sick of glam hardcore it isn't even funny. Look maybe it is a good idea not to mix two genres (ummm hardcore and emo... what the hell?). So if you kids wearing your From Autumn To Ashes t-shirts think you know what hardcore is, pick up this album (and a Black Flag album oh and don't forget Minor Threat)becuase this the real deal. No whining about girl friends or stupid crap like that. Oh baby why did you do this to me? Whaaa whaaa, I don't want to hear that on a hard core record.
all i wanna see.........2003-10-02
is Good clean fun! This positively positive band made some of the best posi-hardcore stuff around. I recommend this to any fan of hardcore.
I love these boys........2003-06-18
These guys are amazing, their message is great. I love how they support us ladies! Woo! Buy this album, it makes you feel better and there is sooo much on it!
sXe kids can be FUNNY!.......2003-02-03
Alright, this album is not for everyone. I'm sXe, vegetarian, positive, etc etc. I fit the hardcore kid stereotype, with the exception of not being a jock with a ton of tattoos (that comes later). I don't want to listen to a bunch of guys showing off on their guitars. Keep it simple. Keep it fast. Oh yeah, and make sure you have a sense of humor too. That's what GCF does. A lot of their songs sound similar, but they mix it up too. On "Saving the streets" there's a bluesy interlude, and there are talking parts to their songs too. The sing-along parts are what define them as hardcore. Maybe they're not as abrasive as Shai Hulud, but they have the right attitude. Who else can get you singing along to a song about shopping for friends at a store ("Shopping for a crew")? They are one of my favorite bands because their lyrics are what makes them so unique. They're not tough-guy so they have intelligent things to say. If you're one of the more open-minded kids in the scene, this album is a must.

Album Description
Big Jess of Unknown Prophets ventures out with his first solo record. Part of the N.E. Time Entertainment crew.
Customer Reviews:
The feel good album of the year.......2005-05-02
As the cover and title indicates, expect to have some good clean fun on this outing with Big Jess; half of the Minneapolis' underground rap duo Unknown Prophets. Unlike his other half, Mad Son, Big Jess push's the positivity vibe much further. His flow is bouncy, confident, clear-cut and unmistakable. This album is immediately accessible. His flow is easy to understand, the beats are minimal, and the production is great. You'll find yourself nodding your head through the entirety of it's length. The positive vibe will keep you coming back for more action.
I must say, I saw the Unknown Prophets play last Friday for the second time. Big Jess blows me away with his flow. He just has more presence on the mic than Mad Son. I would venture to say that this album is better than the Mad Son's solo album, and maybe even Unknown Prophets "World Premier". This one has got me coming back for more spins all the time.
Jess paints a clear picture of himself throughout the album. He's got some pretty tight flows, such as this one from "This Is Who I Am" - "I smoke marijuana but I've never done cocaine / and I'll never overdose like Kurt Cobain". I like this one from "Can You Believe?" quite a bit too - "...we can take a ride in my Testarossa / [Are you for real?] / No, I'm playin' / my wife would turn to Tyson and punch my face in / cut me off and lock my a** in the basement / then call Brad Pitt up to be my replacement." Ok, one more, from "What I'm Hopin' 4" - "Some say my rhymes are to simple and un-intellectual / but if you ask me dog, my flow is exceptional."
Overall, Big Jess is shining in full form here. This album isn't about complicated metaphors. These lyrics come from his heart and soul. I can best compare him too Slug from Atmosphere. They both seem to get very personal with the audience. This is just the beginning for Big Jess. I'm looking forward to another Unknown Prophets show. They are always entertaining!
The Name Says It All.......2004-09-07
Good Clean Fun is What Big Jess is all about. Big Jess is half of the Minneapolis based hip hop group the Unknown Prophets. He and the other half Mad Son decided to release solo CD's before they put out there 3rd CD together. Good Clean Fun is a great CD. I gave it 4 stars because there are a few ok songs and there is some filler. But the best songs on this CD are great and not only that they have substance. That is one of the main reasons people like the Unknown Prophets. They have positive uplifting music, yet they are still gifted rhymers.
I strongly recomend this CD to any hip hop fan. There are tracks like "Can You Believe" and one of my favorite songs of all time "Yea" which show how upbeat Big Jess is. These are great party songs. Then there are songs like "Still Me", "This is who I am" and "Warrior" which show the depth and personal beliefs of Big Jess. This is a great CD for anyone who is tired of the overplayed and unorriginal mainstream rap. If you are sick of heraing about guns a bling bling give GCF a shot. To quote Jess "Im an Old Navy shopper not a Crystal popper, ask your boy about Jess he'll say Im proper".
I listen to a wide variety of music (i.e. Atmosphere, Nonpoint, Bob Marley, Dispatch, Hatebreed, Krs One etc...) and I can honestly say Big Jess and The Unknown Prophets are one of the most underrated, overlooked groups I have ever heard. If you like this CD I also recomend World Premier by The Unknown Prophets. At the worst listen to a few songs, it will be worth your time. Peace.
GCF is a must have!.......2004-06-16
Big Jess and MaD SoN (of Unknown Prophets) have released solo albums in 2004. "GCF" is a fun hip-hop ride through the mind of Jess. Great CD, as is MaD SoN's "Peace Amongst the MaDness". Get these CDs to hold you over until "Against the Grain" drops!!!

''someone has gone and sold out punk rock''.......2003-12-14
a lot of people don't like good clean fun because of their lack of seriousness, but, that's what i love about them. they pay homage in their own little way to side by side and gorilla biscuits which gets them plus points. if you're into hardcore pick this up. standout tracks: you're only punk once, 11th commandment, loserdotcom, and on the streets.
Really does put the "ha" in Hardcore.......2002-10-25
Making fun of Straight Edge is a pretty easy (if unwarranted) thing to do, but Good Clean Fun manage to subvert the stereotype in a way that's not only inoffensive but damn funny too! Everything from the wry and surreal lyrics to the backup-crew vocals that sound like schoolkids just make you laugh at the whole hardcore punk stereotype - but laugh fondly! Veganism, religion, technology and (most of all) punk are parodied just enough to make hardcore fans laugh at themselves without being alientated. Favourites on this album are "I Can't Wait" ('2001, we call it quits the band'll be done...2004, to work, reunion tour!' - how many bands actually do this!), "Beat The Meat" and "You're Only Punk Once" (The shouted sidelines at the end of each line totally change the emphasis of the song). A funny, energetic album that's definitely worth buying - so go on then. Or aren't you harcore enough....?
That's what is all about...some good clean fun!.......2001-11-01
