About the Artist
In the small world of women duos, Sharon Dennis and Doris Au MacDonald have often been compared to a "female Simon and Garfunkel." As The Braeded Chord, they masterfully weave strong imagery, gentle harmonies and evocative melodies to create a compelling listening experience. First working together in a church worship band, the two began to collaborate, recording their first project, "Beyond What I Can See" in 2003. Soon after, they chose their name to reflect their intertwined harmonization, their close friendship and relationship to God. Its spelling acknowledges their Celtic roots-Sharon is half-Irish, and well, Doris is married to a half-Scot!
Sharon Dennis, born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, began her love affair with the guitar when she was four years old. From a family of six, she didn't have much privacy so practiced in the bathroom where both the acoustics AND the privacy were good. She continued to play throughout her college career, then worked as a petroleum engineer with a major oil company for ten years before retiring to motherhood. Her romance with the guitar was rekindled when her church began a contemporary worship band. She resides with her husband and four children in Culpeper, where the air is clear and there are at least two paved roads leading out!
Doris Au MacDonald, a resident of Fairfax, Virginia, comes from the west coast, having been born and raised in Burbank, California. She began her piano studies at age five and comes from a long line of musicians, but considered herself a "musical drop-out." Rather than follow her sisters as music majors, she chose to become an elementary school teacher. Doris followed her husband in his career, working in the Philippines, California, Hong Kong, Texas and currently Washington D.C. She utilized her skills as a teacher and a writer, taking time out to raise a family. Doris rediscovered that missing piece on a stay with her husband at a Pennsylvanian bed and breakfast where one of the owners played a grand piano in the parlor. Soon after, Sharon invited her to play keyboard with her church's praise band, and the rest is history. Doris collaborates with Sharon on songwriting, does the transcription and orchestrations and manages the duo's schedule. "I'm so fortunate,! " she exclaims, "I used to be afraid to dream-- and now I am living my dream!"
Product Description
"Dream and Dare," original songs from the duo The Braeded Chord, goes beyond where their first left off- once again drawing upon various musical styles and taking the listener deeper into the raw emotion of life after 9/11. It begins with "The Ride," an allegorical tongue-in-cheek salute to roller coasters and the ups and downs of life. This exhilarating journey, featuring keyboardist Doris MacDonald on piano, is followed by the hauntingly beautiful "I Will Wait," which won an honor award in the 2005 Great American Songwriting Contest. Sharon Dennis returns to her folk writing roots on guitar-driven songs like "Free to Fly," "Sail the Dream," and "Rain Upon the Suff'ring." The collaborative efforts of the two are showcased in the almost-gothic "Holy Passion" and the Dr. Zhivago-esque "O Tiny Child." Finishing with the upbeat, rockabilly "Fly Away Home," the pair leaves their listeners with a grin. "Dream and Dare," at times intimate and bittersweet, other times hopeful and soaring with lush orchestrations, should satisfy fans of multiple genres.
Dream and Dare,The Braeded Chord,BCProductions,Folk,In their 2nd CD, Dennis and MacDonald (The Braeded Chord) serve up a rich blend of eclectic styles from contemporary folk to rockabilly gospel. Poetic lyrics draw the listener from the dream into the journey.,Pop

Yanni tacitly announced he was becoming a kinder, gentler, more thoughtful musician with the release of this 1992 studio recording. The triumphant surges and tympani-powered sonic eruptions that often distinguished his earlier works are replaced here by greater emphasis on billowy clouds of stardust. Yet even on its own subdued terms, Dare to Dream is largely an attractive package designed for Yanni's legions of newer fans who discovered him on Oprah or PBS. If you remember to program your CD-player to skip "Aria," a shrill, operatic oddity, you'll discover the album's strengths lie in its more energetic compositions--particularly "Desire" and "You Only Live Once." On the quiet side, the affecting "To the One Who Knows" is a soul-searching gem that bears repeated listening. --Terry Wood

GREAT MUSIC.......2007-03-09
MY MOM TOLD ME SHE LOVES HIS MUSIC AND I HEARD IT ON A WEB SITE AND I LOVE IT ALSO. IT IS GREAT SO RELAXING
If you do not like this CD, you must be deaf!!!!!.......2006-10-02
Yanni at his best! This is definitely one of the turning points in the evolution of New Age music! You Only Live Once is amazing, albeit really long, and To The One Who Knows is an exquisite piece. I prefer the version of Felitsa that appears on In My Time to the one on here, but it is still a pretty piece! Desire is phenomenal, using synth pan flutes and dulcimer to create a very Eastern sound. Aria, let's face it, is just plain weird, but it is followed by A Night To Remember, which is equally wonderful to the rest of the album, although just a bit cliché towards the end. In The Mirror isn't the best piece to listen to, but it is really fun to play on the piano! This one's a must-have as well!
No doubt its a 5 of 5.......2006-01-09
Another amazing album from an amazing contemporary composer. All tracks are simply soothing and mind blowing. If you have a highly refined musical taste then you will appreciate this album. He won a Grammy for this album. Must own CD. Also check out Yanni's DVDs.
Simply Breath-taking!.......2005-12-03
I had been to the athens concert years back and just fell in love with this guy. I play the classics on the piano and would just sit down and listen to track after track of his compositions.
Simply Amazing!
Perfect!.......2005-08-09
I am truely moved by this CD. Words cannot express how it makes you feel - perfect is as close as I can come.

It's easy to take a full-brush swipe at Billy Gilman, who recorded his first album--as well as this follow-up--by the age of 12. His voice is predictably girlish, his inspirational material goes treacly, and his country-pop offerings are usually embarrassingly lame. But technically, Gilman is a fine little singer, with an easy approach and impressive control. The problem is, his producers don't know whether to present him as a child or as a knowing young adult, and in doing both, they make him look foolish. "She's My Girl," a fluffy, pop-radio confection, has him taking a hipster stance, calling the object of his affections "a 24/7 piece of heaven." Gilman finally breaks out on the big band/rockabilly number, "You Don't You Won't," which should be a lesson to his producers: find him the best songs, forget his age, and just let him sing. If that happens, he'll attract the right audience and transcend his boy-wonder image. Otherwise, enjoy this future Catskills attraction while you can. --Alanna Nash
Customer Reviews:
It's GREAT!!!!!!.......2006-07-27
When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade we had a Math-a-thon video that came with our books and the video of Elisabeth was on there. It inspired me so much! After I watched that I had wanted to do the math-a-thon until I was in 5th grade. I am in junior high now and have missed him(he hasn't had another album out until now). my mom had bought me this cd for my birthday in 4th grade but it didn't have "One Voice" so we returned and got a totally different artist(they didn't have One Voice at the time).
A lot better than average!!!.......2006-06-01
I bought this CD some 3 years ago while being out on my boat that summer, and then, the track "I've Got To Make It To Summer" just forever has a special sound, a special harmony. My favorite track on the record is "My Time On Earth", which just happens to be one of my very, very favorite songs of all times. I love Billy Gilman. He has what it takes to become/stay a legend.
Amazon's Editorial Review of this album is WRONG!!!.......2006-02-13
Amazon's editorial review of this Billy's album "Dare to Dream" is WRONG. His voice is incredibly pure, charming and powerful - NOT embarrassingly lame. I'd recommend this album to everyone.
What Can I Say?.......2005-08-19
If you haven't listened to the clips above, DO SO! IF you need convincing, Billy's voice will do it without the aid of reviews! Astounding control, well placed inflection, professional insertion of vocal emotion, a strong unwavering voice, clear as a bell tones. . . Billy Gilman is not just another child artist. He stands out with his ability to actually SING, truly SING, and far from playing it safe, he tackles tough songs and adult endeavors with gusto and success. A real winner. I'm not a fan of ballads, but Some Things I Know could not do a better job showcasing his beautiful voice. You Dont You Wont shows better breathing control than most adults have mastered, and Elisabeth & The Woman In My Life are sweetly touching. I personally really enjoyed Almost Love and She's Everything You Want. Our First Kiss may appear to just be a cute song, but listen close and hear the strength in his voice, and the careful control of each note.
Fantastico, Billy, Fantastico!.......2004-12-21
This is one of your best works yet! I love this cd, because it has a great up-beat rhythm, and it's such a fun cd! GREAT JOB, BILLY!

I don't get it.......2007-03-16
Don Wassler is may be a legend in Texas, but for me he's an aquired taste...And I can't aquire it. Wasler obviously enjoys what he's doing as evidenced by these recordings, but by and large his voice is not the most appealing one I've ever heard.
DARE TO DREAM.......2006-07-28
THIS IS ABOUT DON WALSER CD's ALL I CAN SAY IS I LUV TO HEAR DON W. SING ANYTHING HE WILL SING AND MOST OF ALL HE SURE CAN YODEL. TROUBLE IS OUT OF ALL THE YODELERS I HAVE PLUS HAVE LISTEN TO I DON'T KNOW WHICH HAS THE OTHER OUT YODEL'D, HA. OVER ALL I LOVE ALL YODELER's. WELL ENUFF IS ENUFF SAID HERE.
TRY HIM OUT, YOU;LL LUV HIM. TOO.
Wake up Country Posers!.......2004-12-12
This album is pretty cool and Don Walser has an amazing voice because he can yodel with the best of them. I do not know if he is as good as that yodeling guy from Montana but this is a real country album, sorry Rascall Chesney but keep singing about peaking in high school. Okay so you have yodeling, western swing, and some real traditional ballads. The album starts off with and ends with Rolling Stone from Texas, and it sounds like he pulled out a recording from his younger days on the last track. I guess this is his signature song, if so it's a dang good one partner.
Some of my favorite songs on this album are "The John Deere Tractor Song," which is a quite fun loving song. Riding around on a tractor is pretty fun in my opinion. I love Walser's version of "Please Help me I'm falling" it's really good. This is a good song for driving out in the middle of nowhere and looking up under the stars. Walser has such a versatile vocal range and command of his material. This guy is definitely a gem. "Arkansas" is another great song even if Arkasnas the state still leaves a lot to be desired. The song is simply beautiful and if you love and admire Arkanasas no doubt you will love it. There are a ton of enchanting songs on this album, and if I was even more of a Texas or Western Swing fan this would get five stars. If you are from Texas and you don't like or have never heard of Don Walser, sorry you are not a real Texan. Good job Don Walser!
Pure Texas, pure delight.......2002-07-24
This album is an absolute gem! If you've never heard Don Walser, get this album. If you have heard him, get this album - it's a collection of his best. Walser has one of the clearest voices you'll ever hear - his falsetto voice and his yodels send chills down my spine. The album contains a variety of styles and genres, all united by the authenticity of Walser's Texas voice. His version of "Rose Marie", with the Kronos Quartet, is magic. "We Could, You and I", with Crystal Gayle, is pure country (not Nashville!) "Big Ball's in Cowtown" is pure Walser! You can envision Don at the Broken Spoke, a classic Texas honky-tonk in Austin, and at Carnegie Hall. If you're ever in Austin, catch him at the Spoke. If not, get this album - the next best thing.

All of the songs on this compilation are great!!! I had to run out and buy the soundtrack after I saw the music. Many of the songs I grew up listening to in the 80's and was delighted to hear in the movie and on the compilation. The soundtrack also includes the song that Molly Shannon sings "Out There On My Own"... This is one of the best compilations I've heard in a long time -- go get it!!!
Super!.......1999-10-25
While watching the movie and listening to the songs they play, I was hoping that the soundtrack would be available, and here it is!!! A "superstar" soundtrack which includes songs from The Go-gos, Night Ranger, C&C Music Factory among others. The Alisha song, "You Wanna Be A Superstar" is a hit as well. This is the best movie soundtrack I've heard in a long time and I highly recommend it...
