Allow me to quote from the liner notes:

"Despite constant jockeying for the domineering musical position by each member of the band, resulting as it did, in mass overplaying of the most heinous, self centered manner, and not withstanding the excoriating cancerous vocal style I employed (reviewers note: THAT'S WHAT HE SOUNDS LIKE-LIKE HE HAS A CHOICE) devoid of subtlety, nuance and all the other qualities of finesse I deem more important today, GP and the Rumour still manage somehow to coalesce into a full blooded whole some nights of the year that defied gravity, overshadowing shortcomings, and at times made us sound like the most vital rock 'n roll band on the planet."

That about summarizes my opinion of this album - an album as full of bombast as the excerpt above.

It is a loud rock album if you just sort of let it play, but if you listen closely it is something you warm up to, as if, as stated in the quote above, the band sometimes really gels. On this album they seem really in a groove.

Sounding a little like a drunk Elvis Costello, GP and friends really rip through a bunch of songs that all sort of sound the same, and they all sort of sound great.

Oh, and this CD contains, like, the 52nd different version of "Mercury Poisoning." Not a bad thing, really.

Live Is Just Fine!.......2001-03-08

This album is uniformly excellent, a surprisingly consistent effort, especially since it was cobbled together from live appearances spanning 14 years. Listening to it, you could be convinced it was from a single tour, no small compliment. All the songs sound great, especially the two tracks from his later, more tepid albums. As a fan, it's a treat to get some great live albums since GPs studio efforts have been relatively disappointing since THE MONA LISA'S SISTER, indeed, he may be the only artist who makes live albums that are better than his studio efforts. The fact that his later songs sound better live implies that GPs problem of late has been his devotion to studio perfection. Parker is a basic rock n roller, the kind of straight ahead artist whose sound can be easily be over produced, and this would seem to be what has been going on. Maybe he should hire Nick Lowe to `bash out' his next album.

An interesting snapshot of the wild Steve Earle live in Lond.......1999-08-20

This is one of the best live compilations of the late 80's Steve Earle & The Dukes incarnation. The atmosphere is great and, apart from the usual suspects, the cover versions of the Stones "Dead Flowers" and old Irish (& Waterboys) song "When will we be married" are both riveting - the latter, one of the best covers of this song you will ever hear. Steve and the Band were on good form when this was recorded. Campaign for its re-release now!

Beautiful.......2001-12-21

I bought this album on a whim, after a hard-working day. I already had a couple of their albums, but still wasn't quite prepared for this collection (from 2 different concerts, 2 different dates). What an alternately warm, rocking(!), moving and energetic set. Calling them the "Irish Beatles" is perhaps a bit silly, but it can't be denied that this is some of the finest Celtic/trad. Irish music ever recorded.

The Bothy band is amazing...plain and simple. This album is everything the trad irish music lover could ever want. There are jigs, reels, laments...EVERYTHING. Grab your Guinness and put on your dancing shoes because this album will have you out of your chair and stepping all over the place!

A Neglected Band.......1999-02-03

Best understood as the British answer to Alice Cooper. SAHB shares a lot in common with those guys from Detroit -- showmanship, a flamboyant lead singer, Tin Pan Alley influences, and, best of all, a nice, uncomplicated reliance on heavy riffs to power the sound. This and Live (taken from a 1975 show) has good versions of all their best songs -- "Faith Healer", "Framed", "Vambo", "Tomahawk Kid", "Temptation of St. Antony"-- and taken together is all you really need.

First of all I like to start by pointing this out,It's the last four songs where Schenker & Chapman share the lead not the first 4 like it was mentioned on 1 review,this is the best way I can put it If you are a Schenker fan you'll like the 4 songs mostly,If you're a Chapman fan you'll like the whole disc even if he cuts LIGHTS OUT in half,there's no second solo,the first 8 songs are from NO PLACE TO RUN tour 1980 and the other 4 are from 1974,I feel I should mention this for any UFO fan there's a CD called ( The archives Series BBC UFO In Session and Live in concert) these are recorded versions that were replaced by the ones that were on the albums and these ones were never released these are the songs in order all Schenker with UFO

First four tracks here come from a 1974 concert,where the superb twin guitar sound of Michael Schenker and Paul Chapman more than sizzles.The rest of the disc was pulled from a later gig.This is one band I've never gotten to see play live.Maybe there's still hope.Heard they still tour with three(is it?)original/classic line-up members.A fan can't ask for too much more than that.Cuts that make this CD a true keeper are "No Place To Run","Only You Can Rock Me","Lights Out",the ass-kicking "Rock Bottom","Doctor Doctor" and "Shoot Shoot".A good classic hard rock title to have.

I heard this version of Doctor Doctor and it just blew me away. The last four tracks with Schenker are the best. A great change of pace to Strangers in the Night. If you buy it I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Live rock, great sound-UFO's greatest hits-2 different shows.......1998-12-24

The information on the cd sleeve is not entirely correct. The 4 cuts on the cd with Michael Schenker have a very special touch to them. Listen carefully and you will hear a second guitar. For a very short time, Paul Chapman played co-lead guitar for UFO in 1974. It did not work out between Paul and Michael but they sounded great together. This is the only commerical avaiable recording of the two together. They never did any studio work together. The cd is an outstanding example of why UFO has always been a great live act. Enjoy!
