About the Artist
Cleveland-native Bobby St. Vincent's romantic approach to life collides with his acoustic aggressiveness. Currently residing in Tempe, Arizona, St. Vincent's warm vocals and guitar playing provide the listener with an easygoing vibe. _________________________________________ 25-year-old Bobby St. Vincent is a vibrant, acoustic guitar player and singer/songwriter who spent much of his youth admiring the artists on early MTV, while strumming his guitar and singing into a microphone. Spending numerous summers and vacations in Man-O-War Cay, Bahamas, Bobby has created a style of music all his own. This style has carried him through a respectable music career. At the age of 15, Bobby's musical passion led him to the creation of the band Cornerstone. Beginning in 1995, Cornerstone molded cool pop jazz with a streak of funky beats and powerful punk lyrics. Upon graduation of high school, Cornerstone came to an end and college-bound Bobby began his solo career. In his first year of college, Bobby experimented with his musical writing abilities. Only after a year of composing music, Bobby embarked on his first studio effort, which resulted in the six-track acoustic session entitled, "Edge of Tomorrow". By the end of Bobby's college career, he had advanced his songwriting skills enormously, while establishing a strong fan base throughout Ohio. Playing weekly gigs and various bars and nightclubs, many fans have watched Bobby develop into the dynamic musician he is today. One highlight of Bobby's performing career was opening for Boston at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, in 2003. Bobby released his five-track EP in February 2005. His romantic approach to life collides with his acoustic attitude in his first studio release. Although the EP contains only five tracks, it captures Bobby's dynamically romantic essence. Recorded in the fall of 2004, Bobby's new release takes the listener on an adventure; whether if it is with him sailing! through the Caribbean in "Moonshine", or his smooth-rocking beats in "Fancy". Although Bobby's music is unparalleled, his influences are diverse: 311, Ani DiFranco, Bob Marley, Dave Matthews Band, Jimmy Buffett, Rage Against the Machine, The Doors, and The Rolling Stones. With a unique blend of powerful rock, along with reflective ballads, Bobby continues to add to his eclectic style of music. Recently emerging the Tempe music scene, Bobby is establishing a strong following among a wide variety of people. Playing new venues, gaining more fans, and introducing a new breed of music has been an exciting experience for Bobby. Bobby St. Vincent embraces life with a remarkably positive outlook. Bobby is continually working to distinguish himself as a reputable musician through touring and album sales. Check local listings for a Spring 2005 tour.

Losing their edge?.......2007-08-03
Just like everyone else...this album is ayyyight. Nothing new here folks and with Head out of the band and David taking a break...the band is really losing their steam. Here the songs are okay, its good to listen while you're driving but Jon Davis and whatevers left of the crew seem kinda tired. Not to mention now that they're all in their 30's with a family its kinda hard to relate to Jon's lyrics like the good old days. TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR still remains as the worst album they put out. This one is a just a step above it. the KORN i once knew and loved is dead. Say hello to the new "I don't give a sh** anymore!" KORN. This album defintely felt sloppy. But its still a good listen when you want to kill some time.
When Keeping it Real...goes wrong........2007-08-03
Who could've figured that Korn's opening lines to their debut album, "Are You Ready?" would foreshadow for what was to come for their 8th untitled album. Korn has never been a stranger to experimentation from the concept driven Issues to the chorus filled synth tinged Untouchables, they've still somehow always managed to keep a signature sound. The appropriately titled untitled album really shows the band trying to do something new. Unfortunately, this is just another example of when keeping it real goes wrong.
From the online preview of "I Will Protect You" and the lead single "Evolution", I had my fears over what exactly Korn was trying to accomplish. On the Untitled, Korn is too progressive to have signature anthems or catchy choruses, yet it isn't progressive enough to join the ranks of something like The Mars Volta or say Tool. The energy for the most part is absent throughout the album. Its disappointing considering there are some really songs that shine like the pounding "Killing" and "Hold On". The pacing of the album is also something that is really lacking. Korn has always had the ability to pace their albums perfectly. In the middle of the album, the record just drags due to Kiss, Do What They Say, and Ever Be all being around the same mid tempo pace (excluding Ever Be's ending). In fact, dragging would be a perfect one word review for the album.
As a band, the results are very mixed. On one hand, this album does feature Fieldy's finest work yet as a bassist. On the album's more funkier songs, Fieldy's bass playing isn't just slapping and really shows he is on top of his game for this album. This could be due to the addition of Terry Bozzio who adds a real jazzy presence to the album. Terry really shines throughout the album but at times overshines the band. Because of this, Munky really seems like the weak link of the group. His guitar riffs are for the most part pretty bland and not very energetic. Is it just me or does Innocent Bystander's intro straight from the bridge of "Getting Off" from See You on the Other Side. I've always enjoyed Munky's effects use, but I can honestly say I was bored stiff with his effort here. Last but certainly not least, Jonathan's performance is varied shifting from the whiney and unnecessary "B*tch, We Got a Problem" to the emotional "Starting Over". It shows that he is trying to do more with his vocals but i've been more intrigued with previouis efforts.
I want to like this album, I really do. However, I find the album's title to be very similar to the album's sound as a whole. You just don't know how to label it because it seems like a lot of mush. After their Unplugged performance *which was always a lot of hit and miss*, Korn really wanted to aim high for this release. In doing so, they've abandoned a lot of what they stood for. I'm not one of those Korn kids begging for another raw outing like the debut. I just ask that Korn be...Korn.
P.S.

4.5 stars.......2007-08-02
Korn have been one of my favourite bands for quite some time now. Perhaps they do not mean as much personally to me. I love them more for their origionality and how the fearlessly experiment in their music. This is no exception.
If you are looking for anything like their debut, then look somewhere else. This is probably korn's lightest album to date, however the mind drawing riffs, the hip hop influenced beats and Davis's haunting vocals that almost mock the simple melody he is singing makes the album distinctively their own.
After the intro, Starting over immediately draws you in with its catchy chorus, and is a good demonstrtion of where the album is going because the catchieness, and industrial style gets more extreme in "Bith we got a problem". The choruses are what really makes the album so effective.
Even if you have not already bought the album the single "Evolotion" is probably still in your head. The same is done most notably on "kiss" and "Ever be" While some will call this annoying and label them as commercial sellouts, you can tell just by the lyrics that Korn are still so much more than this.
It also struck me that as korn do not sound as heavy any more, can they still be called nu metal? or are they more of a funk rock band now? As a fan of the Red hot chili peppers, this does not bother me, but as said before, metalheads will not be impressed. However, if you listen with an open mind, you will see that this album does show the talent and raw emotion that Korn have always possessed
very good album.......2007-08-02
This album has to grow on you. When I first listened to it for the first time I wanted to throw it away and forget about it but after listening to it some more it started to grow on me and now i like it very much. so give it a try it wont dissapoint you
How can anyone rate this 4 or 5?.......2007-08-02
I couldn't wait to get this after reading the preview that stated this was the heaviest korn to date by one of the band members. This was the first time I can honestly say that I wasted money on music. I never thought it could be this terrible. The SYOTOS album took a bit of getting used to, but still it was tollerable once you listened to it a few times. On every song it seemed to start out dull and about mid song, just when I thought they were going to pick up, they just stayed the same. I have every Korn song out there, not just holding onto the past, this really sucked!

well here it is i think this album rocks being a huge fan i guess i would but it really is likeable. second i HATE AMAZON! i preordered this album and look two days later i still dont have it. i had to download it because i couldent wait for amazon to send it. that off my chest back to the review the album has this really trippy sound wich i like some lyrics are very catchy overall i fell this album has a much better lasting appeal that syotos. favorite tracks evolution, [...] we got a problem, killing, and innocent bystander. ive been with korn since day one and will continue to truge the long haul! GOOOO KORN!
Korn's new sound is authentic and here to stay.......2007-08-01
It gets a little old hearing people comparing Korn's new music to their old stuff. Korn have said that in losing 2 members (only 1 perminant), they have changed as a band and in this the music they create. I have been a Korn fan for 10 years now and I have never been disappointed, and I can say this with "Untitled." This new sound is heavier than 2005's See You on the Other Side and resembles 2002's Untouchables. I can listen to this entire album with only skipping one track (Do What They Say). It isn't a horible song, I just don't care for it. Overall, if you are a Korn fan pick this Limited Edition up if you can (it is sold out in most retail stores). Die hard Korn fans should love this album and I cannot wait to see these guys in Orlando.
Disappointed...but still must have for Korn fans..........2007-08-01
I bought the Special Edition CD with DVD, because I love watching behind the scenes videos of the recording process. I also was a little swayed by the free T-shirt offer with this package (by the way it is $10 for shipping and handling which is far from free...the last time is sent a package of this size it cost $.99 for the envelope and $2.10 for the postage).
Be careful when you open the packaging...you could drop the contents easily. There are 3 cards for each of the remaining band members (Brian "Head" Welch left the group before the last CD as he found religion and got clean from drugs, and now David Silveria has had to take a hiatus for surgery to relieve nerve pain in left arm), there is a card with code for free T-shirt, there is a pull out poster, the CD booklet, a cardboard jacket for the CD and another cardboard jacket for the DVD...seems a little much to shuffle through if you just want to grab the CD and play (so if you hate packaging and just want the tunes stick to the jewel case regular CD version). I do have to admit that the artwork with this CD is very cool. I think that is why I spent the extra cash on it.
Now on to the music...this is a different release for Korn. Don't expect to hear the same sounds from See You On The Other Side or Take A Look In The Mirror. This is a less guitar driven album. It is more like Korn meets Pink Floyd and Nine Inch Nails. This album is more processed with keyboards, sound effects, layering sounds, etc. The drums are very different here...some of the tracks were recorded with Terry Bozzio (which is really a treat as he is a great drummer) and some are Jonathan Davis...and I think they had another drummer enlisted to finish off the record. The sound is very dense and melodic, but not as raw and grinding.
It is really different, and that is the key to my disappointment. I am used to loving every song and every sound from Korn as in the past. I love the complex rhythms and sounds that Korn has always produced, but this time around I am not immediately drawn to it.
If you love Korn, then go for it! If you are a casual Korn fan, then listen to sound bites first or borrow from a friend to check it out. I think for me it will take some time and a few more listens to get into this one.
The touring band that they have set for Untitled looks amazing...They have Slipknot's drummer and Sevendust's guitar player to round out the line up...should be good to see live!
.......and then there were three..... a strong 4 1/2 star album.......2007-08-01
If 'See You On The Other Side' was the bridge to get there then 'Untitled' is the other side. Most of the album is filled with artsy experimental music that is truly evolutionary as far as Korn goes. With Head devoting his life to God and David on hiatus all that is left of Korn are Jonathan,Munky,Fieldy. Ofcourse once again the boys from Bakersfield surround themselves with many talented individuals. From the production team of The Matrix to producer Atticus Ross to session drummer Terry Bozzio. Most of the tracks were created all together in the studio with ideas flowing like a geiser. Most of the album comes off noisy but yet clean. But gone is the Korn your grandpa used to listen to. It is less heavier than 'SYOTOS' but flows much better. The continuity is there with tremndous confidence and from track to track it is easy to tell that this is the new Korn for all. Some may like it and some won't. If you are wanting to hear the 'S/T' or 'Life's Peachy' or even 'Take A Look In The Mirror' then go and listen to those albums. But if you enjoyed 'SYOTOS' as much as I did then give this album a try. For it is better than its predecessor......and as far as this Deluxe Limited Edition goes you get a 47 minute DVD documenting the band in the studio and photo slideshow which is cool. Fantastic artwork throughout the package. A bonus track called 'Sing Sorrow' which is a very strong track. Three postcards of each member drawn which is also very cool. A two sided poster of the album art that comes with creases(that sucks) and a coupon to redeem a free t-shirt from the band. Very very cool...and it all comes in a nice hard box. Korn really did a great job with this package. Big props go out to them.....for me the only down side is the unablilty to read the small wavy print in the sleeve.....very difficult to read.
Think Pink Floyd does Heavy Metal.......2007-08-01
I found this album to be very similar to SYOTOS first time around. It does have the 'artsy' sound to it and my first reaction was 'Pink Floyd does Heavy Metal'. Very trippy cd with a mix of melody and goth intertwined in each song. Favorite song on the album after first couple of go rounds has got to be 'Killing'. Very militant and heavy 'old-school' KoRn feel to it and great to jam along with. This album isn't for everyone, and if you didn't really like Issues or SYOTOS, you might not like this one. Every album has a message, and the message delivered in this album is very clear, KoRn hates God and fixed religion. But overall, I give this album a 4 out of 5, just because it had to grow on me after about 4 listens and it just didn't 'grab' me first time around.

An academic exercise well worth studying.......2006-03-12
Upon first listen, you might think that "Codex Faenza: Instrumental Music of the Early 15th Century" is wrongly named. These works were composed by 14th Century composers, such as Machaut and Landini, and several songs appear as vocal arrangements without instrumentation.
That's where the "Codex Faenza" comes in. This tome was an early 15th century book of instrumental arrangements of 14th century music. The Unicorn Ensemble performs several works from the Codex Faenza, sometimes preceding the instrumental version with the original vocal arrangement for comparison. The last two tracks, the anonymous compositions "Kyrie" and "Ave maris stella," feature alternating sections of plainchant and organ music.
In many cases, the busy melodies gain something in the translation. The top lines have an improvisatory quality that can seem odd when sung, but sound more natural when played instrumentally. The Unicorn Ensemble has mastered late medieval/early Renaissance instrumentation, and their performances effectively evoke the spirit of past times.
I was somewhat critical of The Unicorn Ensemble's version of Dufay's "Chansons" for making Guillaume Dufay's music sound more conservative than it really was. Here, the group does the opposite: they update the sound of Ars Nova composers and demonstrate how their achievements foreshadowed the continued musical advances of the early Renaissance. It's an academic exercise in many ways, but one well worth studying.
Amazing stuff!.......2005-06-04
Wow, what a stunning CD. Firstly I am just floored by the audiophile quality of the recorded sound - much, much better than a lot of CDs for three times the price. This is a characteristic of all of the Ensemble Unicorn recordings but this one is particularly good. As for the performances, they brim with life and color as interpretations of music of this period rarely do. They really bring this music to life, transporting the listener back centuries. The music represented here also has a good deal of depth to recommend it too.
This is just the sort of CD that reinforces the view that Naxos is above all a serious record label of high quality. This would be worth buying even if it cost three times the price.
Essential to any early music collection.......2003-09-04
When I purchased this album, I was expecting it to be more akin to the other music performed by the Ensemble Unicorn. I was expecting quick and lively, music akin to the Spanish Troubadour tunes and Las Cantigas de Santa Maria. I was wrong, and I was disappointed at first. I quickly changed my mind after giving the entire album a listen, and was enchanted.
If you like the quick, lively medieval tunes, then this album may not be your cup of tea. However, I don't think any early music collection is complete without this, and I found that even slower medieval tunes have their virtues, particularly when performed by the always impressive Ensemble Unicorn. Another great album, same incredibly low price as always from the Naxos label, and the same top-notch skill I've come to expect from the Ensemble Unicorn.

another glorious entry.......2000-12-13
Unicorn is simply amazing. They turn out CD after CD, all at budget prices, all far surpassing most other early music efforts. Codex Faenza's pieces are mostly two-part, with a florid upper melody supported by a slower-moving tenor. This allows full display of Unicorn's virtuosity -- unlike their Dufay release, which cramped their style with its elaborate polyphony. The opening improvisations are magical, the subtle treatments of text and context fascinating -- and track 10 is the craziest vielle piece I've ever heard

Arguably the last truly great album from the Byrds, this was a double vinyl set when it appeared in 1970. The 16-minute "Eight Miles High" took up an entire side--allowing for plenty of the free-flowing guitar, bass, and drum solos that were in vogue at the time. The live portion of the program opens with a gritty "Lover of the Bayou" and an inspired take on Bob Dylan's "Positively 4th Street." The studio set centers around the group's biggest latter-day hit, "Chestnut Mare," as well as Roger McGuinn's haunting "Just a Season." Here, Untitled is supplemented by Unissued, a whole bonus disc of rare and unreleased material. There are storming concert versions of Dylan's "You Ain't Going Nowhere," "My Back Pages," and "This Wheel's on Fire." Studio highlights include "Lover of the Bayou" and an undubbed "Kathleen's Song." Complete with detailed sleeve notes, recording details, and bonus tracks, Untitled/Unissued perfectly illustrates how archive recordings should be packaged. --Patrick Humphries
Customer Reviews:
Great Byrds Period.......2007-02-19
This was the period when I saw the Byrds most often. The concert material sounds great, and I do wish Clarence White got the props he still deserves. The studio material was the great bonus here. Who would have thought that so much great material was left unreleased for so long. Simply the Byrds at a great period in their history.
Roger McGuinn's SMILE..........2006-03-19
Along with Bob Dylan and Brian Wilson,Roger McGuinn comprises the third in the trinity/pantheon of American pop music masters. Like Brian Wilson's current peerless, touring band THE WONDERMINTS,The McGuinn/Clarence White formation of The Byrds was this superb American band's best touring troop.UNTITLED...originally to be named PHOENIX by Byrdmaster McGuinn...was an excellent album when released in 1970. Songs such as CHESTNUT MARE and JUST A SEASON became classics in their own right along with Tambourine Man;So You Want to Be A Rock'N'Roll Star; and Eight Miles High(reprised here "live" with a blazing 16 minute Coltrane-strain virtuoso performance of the latter). The rest of Untitled was complemented by socko concert versions of LOVER of the BAYOU and Dylan's acid rebuke of pseudo-hippies-NOW-boomer yuppies,POSITIVELY 4TH STREET.
What makes this offering Roger McGuinn's SMILE is the entirely UNISSUED second CD which is comprise of alternate"live"takes on latter-day Byrd classics(Ballad of Easy Rider; You ain't goin' Nowhere; This Wheels on Fire)making it a stellar musical leaf of MY BACK PAGES. Roger McGuinn continues touring and producing Rickenbacker-riffed LEGACY music, but this package of reincarnated Byrds is best of their studio/concert flights and unique summary of what was Sometimes(next to Wilson's Beach Boys)America's best pop music band(8 Miles High Stars).
My Favorite Byrds albulm.......2005-12-01
First of all, I have all of the Byrds albulms and this is my favorite. The live albulm is decent but nothing too spectacular apart from "Lover of the Bayou" and "Positively 4th Street". The studio part is the real deal. Here we have my favorite Byrd's lineup with Clarence White on guitar and some lovely original Roger McGuinn compositions that were missing on the previous 2 albulms. This reissue is now doubled in length with extensive alternate takes and extra live tracks as if the original LP wasn't enough. Most casual listeners know the Byrds from the mid 60s lineup with David Crosby but to me this is the Byrd's albulm to get. If you are not familiar with this lineup (and you wouldn't be if you listen to contemporary FM radio), prepare yourself for a more mellow sounding Byrds with Country influences blended with McGuinn's twelve string guitar and harmonies a little more ragged then what you hear on "Turn, Turn, Turn". To me this takes "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" Byrds and combines it with "Notorious Byrd Brothers" Byrds but gives you the best of both. If you like this albulm check out "Ballad of the Easy Rider" as well. Essential.
oodles of kudos.......2005-11-20
As I have already written a full review of the first disc in this two CD set (the first disc encompassing the original double vinyl album released as 'Untitled' in 1970), this review will primarily be devoted to the 14 track second disc, titled 'Unissued', consisting entirely of previously unreleased studio and live tracks. It should be stated however, since I have lived a period of time with both recordings, that the remastered version of 'Untitled' stands in bold contrast to the original CD version. There are moments where the superior fidelity of the remastering becomes clear, such as in the opening bars of 'Nashville West', which on the original CD sounded as though a mixing problem had completely skewed and lost most everything save the bass and drums. A similar observation can be made in comparing Clarence White's innovative guitar lines on 'Mr. Tambourine Man', which sounded muddled on the original CD, but sound fully integrated into the mix on the remaster.
As if these improvements were not reason enough to invest in the remastered version, a full complement of studio and live recordings have been added to the package on a bonus disc. This second disc reverses the sequence of 'Untitled', first offering alternate and unreleased studio tracks, and then a series of live recordings drawn from the same concerts that provided the live tracks for 'Untitled'. While 'Untitled' failed to reveal the source of these live recordings, thanks to the extensive liner notes offered in 'Unissued' we now know they were made in early 1970 at the Felt Forum in New York, and at the Fillmore East.
The second disc opens with four alternate versions of three songs found on 'Untitled', and they are worthy of inclusion. 'All the Things' and 'Yesterday's Train' are also found on 'Untitled', but I actually find the alternate takes to be superior, sounding more genuine and accessible. 'Lover of the Bayou' appears on 'Untitled' as a live track, so the studio version, with it's echo-chambered vocal and harmonica is a completely different experience. The final alternate is a version of 'Kathleen's Song', a worthy ballad that made its first debut on 'Byrdmaniax', released as the follow-up to 'Untitled' in 1971. Two previously unreleased recordings follow, an energized instrumental titled 'White's Lightning Pt. 2', and a faithful and sincere version of George Lowell's 'Willin', which along with the two opening live tracks form the sequence most devoted to The Byrds version of country music.
To my ear the real treats are yet to come in the form of the live tracks, which open with a version of the finest number from 1968's 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo' disc, 'You Ain't Goin' Nowhere', followed by 'Old Blue' from 1969's 'Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde', and completing the country segment of the show. The final segment, consisting of more pop and rock oriented fare, leads off with a cover of Bob Dylan's 'It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding') from 1965's 'Bringing It All Back Home', although a Roger McGuinn studio version also appears on the 1969 soundtrack of the 'Ballad of Easy Rider' flick. 'Ballad of Easy Rider' follows, also from the flick, and from The Byrds 1969 disc entitled 'Easy Rider'. The opening bars to this memorable song are deservedly well-received by the audience.
The remaining tracks are collected from diverse sources. 'My Back Pages' is of course a throwback to the original Byrds last studio album, 'Younger Than Yesterday', from 1967. Many believe this to be one of their finest recordings, and the live version here certainly does it justice. A live version of 'Take a Whiff' is next, the original appearing on 'Untitled'. McGuinn himself once stated that there were a few too many whiffs in the song for himself, so offering two versions of the same track in this package probably overdoes it. The last two recordings are gems, however. 'Jesus Is Just Alright' appeared first on 1969's 'Easy Rider', and although the song was immortalized by The Doobie Brothers, The Byrds take on it is thoroughly enjoyable as well. The closing track, 'This Wheel's On Fire', was offered by The Byrds as a studio track on 'Dr. Byrds...', and this fleet version provides a crescendo, and lends an exclamation point to the live set. As if all of this were not enough, there is a 'hidden track' offered on disc two, a brief and vibrant a capella version of 'Amazing Grace'.
This double-disc set serves as the textbook on how to expand and repackage decades old material. 'Untitled' was a fine double disc in its first manifestation, but the inclusion of additional live and studio tracks, as well as detailed liner notes, really gives the work a sense of completeness, even if more material may lie in the vault. The only noticable way this could have been expanded further would have been through inclusion of printed lyrics, but given the number of tracks offered here, that may have proved too cumbersome. Columbia is to be commended for it's efforts, and rewarded by fans of The Byrds through their purchase of this outstanding production.
Not a fan of this one.......2005-06-29
After the great "Sweetheart of the Rodeo", The Byrds tumbled downhill with a series of mediocre albums. While this isn't the worst I'm sure, it's such a far cry from classic Byrds. It is, quite frankly, overblown and boring. The group was always adventurous and experimental, but seriously - did we need a sixteen minute version of "Eight Miles High". They just aimed for too much on this one. The only good song contained here is "Chestnut Mare", and even that is below par when compared to "5D" or "My Back Pages". It is hard to critique this without those comparisions, but even when those are ignored, it's simply a below-par rock album. Still, I'd rather listen to this than The Eagles anyday. The latter-day Byrds isn't really worth your money.

A Great Outro.......2002-10-03
The song Untitled was a great moment for The Smashing Pumpkins to go out on. The riffs and whole song struture in general is very similar to the glory days of Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. It's a shame to see the Pumpkins disband after a killer single like this which proves they are still able to rock after the disappoints of Adore and Machina: The Machines Of God.
The other two tracks on this single shows just how diverse the pumpkins were as a band and these versions definatly stand above the originals. Whilst they do still lack some of that trademark Pumpkins sound
Overall, A Good-bye but I would suggest picking up Rotten Apples: The Best Of The Smashing Pumpkins first if you haven't all ready got it. This single is really just for collecters.
The Final Farewell.......2002-08-06
I love this song. I've heard it on the greatest hits album its a defite must have. It's the bands final farewell to all the fans out there. The Alt version of try try try is very good also. I have yet to listen to the early version of age of innocence but if its as good as the final version then this definately worth the buy.
Obscure b-sides!.......2002-06-09
While I am not a fan of the Pumpkins "Untitled", there previous single "Try,try, try" is exceptionally redone here. The original was great, and this is almost as good. It sounds acoustic, kinda, with sounds incorporated into the recording. This one also has different lyrics. The building rock closer from Machina, "The Age of Innosence" is done well with interesting ambient souns, making it sound as if it was recorded live without studio help. I guess most Pumpkins fans would rather die than not support their leader, Corgan, as would I. If nothing else, buy this for the novelty and cool pictures of the band in the studio.

I immediately wanted to buy this CD after watching Quidam. It refresh my memory every time I listen to its music!
Worth buying!
An eclectic and esoteric mix!.......2006-08-08
Quidam's music can best be described as both an eclectic and esoteric mix. It would be very difficult to categorize the music on this CD into any one genre. From the rocking Zydeko to the beautiful song Seisouso, to the eastern European sounding Rivage, this CD will have something for everyone. And it is a must have for anyone who has seen Quidam.

Cirque Du Soleil (Quidam) wouldn't be such a hit without it's soundtrack. You can recapture the experience of the dark but lively mood through the tracks on this CD. Definately a collectible.

Customer Reviews:
Scottish fantasies at their best .......2006-11-15
This double CD is a real treasure, and a showcase of both the musicianship and scholarship. Rachel Barton Pine has researched both the composers and the history of the performances of the works she has recorded. She has produced the most attractive booklet which goes with the CDs, in which she teaches the subject in an effective, friendly and captivating way. Particularly interesting is her documentation of Sarasate's familiarity with Scottish fiddling. Rachel Barton Pine has also a very attractive and informative web site on which one can find information about this project. Just "Google" her and her site comes right up. I think that her web site is great. One can find the schedule of her concerts and all sorts of interesting educational things. I only wish that all great performers would do the same.
Rachel Barton Pine is a virtuoso, but her musicianship shines and it makes her virtuosity just a tool. She is so much more than the flying fingers. In a winning combination with Maestro Alexander Platt, an immensely talented conductor, they have produced a classic which will be listened to for years to come. There may never be a comparable Scottish Fantasy and Pibroch Suite performance. Mr. Platt leaves no note unexpressed. As opposed to the lesser conductors, who sometimes overpower the soloist, or who seek their own limelight at the expense of the soloist, Mr. Platt achieves a perfect union of the soloist and the orchestra, just as it should be. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is also at its best.
These records' main value is in the interpretation, which is insightful and elegant. There are no over-interpretations, however, in which the soloist or orchestra would push their own detailed view of this music. Instead, certain dreaminess is allowed, and the listeners can build their own Scottish Fantasies and become active participants in this music.
Sarasate's Airs écossaise is a totally charming piece. The Medley of Scots Tunes, by Rachel Barton Pine and Alasdair Fraser, a master Scottish fiddler, is an event. I admit to listening to it consecutively eight times, and would have listened to it more times, but was afraid of a total addiction.
The great art of fiddling, the artists' dreams about their countries of origin, pictures of beautiful Scotland, and the musical finesse and musicianship are all the impressions you will come out with after listening to these great recordings.
This review is dedicated to Dr. Andrew B. Dempster for his birthday. Andrew has shown me his native country, Scotland, and guided me through its history. I came back with wonderful memories, and a book of music sheets on Scottish fiddling, my most precious music sheets ever.
really, really good.......2005-06-30
A very pleasant, often lively, evocative and enjoyable set of CDs. The video documentary included in the second CD tells about how Barton Pine studied Celtic/Scottish music before making her recording, and the extra work shows in her ability to render the Bruch as a far lovelier recording than any other violinst has. She finds the tensions, the delicacies and the warmth of this piece. Add to that, the Sarasate is also beautifully done -- sorry it was so short a piece. On the second CD, the Mackenzie and the McEwen, not heard that often, are also really well done. This isn't fiddling -- you get true classical versions of the folk tunes hidden in these selections. Because of that, Barton Pine brings out nuances that were never before explored, and she does it by showing you just how good, how rich, this music can be. The final piece, Barton Pine's arrangement of scottish tunes, is also enjoyable --a fun way to end an album that is both relaxing and delightful. Highly recommended.

Historicismo y musicalidad.......2006-07-21

The River/The Plow that Broke the Plains.......2007-05-17
This performance is excellent it is a worthy addition to your collection. It is an exciting performance by the Philharmonic Virtuosi under the direction of Richard Kapp. Both the Plow that Broke the Plains and the River (complete scores here) are a part of American History. The music woven through out these scores should be very familiar as they represent part of Americana.

Background:
Many years ago, I have purchases these two compositions in Vinal. As I recall the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority*) was commissioned by the federal government (FDR's New deal in the 1930's) to solve the growing electrical shortage in the southern states while attempting to redress the damage done to the Mississippi by man or visa versa. After years of study and hearings they decided to damn the Tennessee River and build a hydro electric plant. The problem was that this would resultant in flooding many would displace many people, and whole towns had to be moved to new locations. Virgil Thomson was commissioned to prepare a score for a documentary that would be prepared to present the project to the communities. It was elegant in its execution and masterfully integrated with the film.
* Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a federally owned corporation in the United States created in May 1933 to provide navigation, flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing, and economic development in the Tennessee Valley, a region particularly hard hit by the Great Depression. The TVA was envisioned not only as an electricity provider, but also as a regional economic development agency that would use federal experts and electricity to rapidly modernize the region's economy and society. The TVA's jurisdiction covers most of Tennessee, parts of Alabama, Mississippi, and Kentucky, and small slices of Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Having accidentally taped a Neville Marriner selection of the River, I wanted the entire composition. This is an excellent rendition of very attractive American works. If you like Appalachian Spring and Rodeo, you will love these works and the recording does them justice.

numetal..........2007-06-22
...is dead but this cd is the only one I can remember that stood out from that dying phase. The intensity and arrangement ideas keep this album flowing. You've got everything here. My personal favorite are the high pitched screams that sound so well executed, who also, easily bleed into clean vocals. I was a bit put off by the song titles because they don't fit but why does that matter. Its too bad that they broke up because this band definitely had something going and things could have probably been better once they've realized that numetal was dead. Still, pick this one up if you get a chance. You can get it for cheap now but it'll definitely deliver!
"My heart it seems to disappear!".......2006-07-03
What irritates me is the fact that they split when they had an amazing thing going for them with there debut album. Heartfelt lyrics coupled with blistering riffs and a unique body of work, Five Pointe O delivers heavily on all fronts. What's impressive about 'Untitled' is the diversity within each track, most notably on 'Purity O1' where lead singer Daniel Struble switches back and forth from Otep like spoken word to Otep like blood screams. Songs like 'Double X Minus' and 'King of the Hill' open the album on a brutal note and songs like 'The Infinity' and 'Syndrome Down' make sure it ends that way too. Notable is "Sympathetic Climate Control' which serves as a nice change of pace, offering a more subtle (while still harsh) musical arrangment. Five Pointe O falls short a little when venturing away from the rock and leaning towards the rap, as they do on 'Breathe Machine' BUT...if you get past the obnoxious rapping in the first verse the song actually redeems itself with a brutal chorus and decent remainder of song. The final track, the instrumental 'Aspire, Inspire' is a brilliant way to end the album, delivering a melodic yet devestating musical experience. 'The Infinity' is probably the most well known of the tracks beings that it was featured on the Resident Evil soundtrack, but it's the title track 'Untitled' that steals the show as the most brutal offering here, delivering blood curtling screams and demonic riffs that cut through your skin and boil your blood. Intence and in your face, it's a shame a brilliant promising band such as Five Pointe O is no more!
at times dizzyingly intense, but madly uneven.......2005-09-09
Five pointe o when thye came out with their lone cd back in 2002 it gave one last glimmering light for nu-metal which by the then was almost dead. The albums manages to blend many combinations of nu-metal, hardcore punk, and synthcore. ITs showcased into at times catastrophic heights on cuts like the "infinity" and "double X minus". but what fails them to keep the torch going is the lack focus. the arrnagments are madly uneven as is the spazy Zach Dela Rocha-eque front man, spitting out political and mythical-eque lyrics. The keyboards do a nice job to the chaotic mess adding atmospherics and histronics. but the songs never get heavy or intense enough. Thr riffage isnt pactiaulrly memorable although sometimes it works righton tracks like "art of cope" and "syndrome down" and on the aforementioned "infinity". IT was an interesting arch at the time of its release but looking at it now far more talented bands have come in there wake. It was an earnest atemtp at the time but it looks dated and tiny to look at it today
Five Point O.......2005-03-06
To bad they broke up but this cd sounds like he put his heart and soul into it. Its AWSOME. must buy..
thrilling.......2004-02-13
The depth and range of the melody in these songs took me completely by surprise. Five Pointe O seamlessly blends several different styles of heavy metal together to make one thrilling melody driven album. Sometimes the singing is reminiscent of Mike Patton, and the screaming, or growling sounds like many of the death metal vocalists. All in all, this album is refreshing on many different levels. Those who want their metal straightforward and simplistic, this one is not for you. Five Pointe O is definitely one of the best of the so-called nu-metal bands. Looking forward to hearing what's next.
