Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves star in a romantic drama featuring music from some of the industry's biggest names. Even if you didn't like the movie, this is one of the best soundtracks of all time. I have been listening to it since I purchased it over two years ago, and I still listen to at least one different song from it every week.

My main reason for getting this album? Enya. It captures one of the most poignant moments in the whole movie, and Enya's voice is so enchanting, it really will bring tears to your eyes.

The rest of the album is slightly iffy. To be honest, I wasn't keen on most of the music featured, and can't say I've heard of many of the artists!!! Or I've heard of the artists, but never really heard their music before now - k.d Lang, Stevie Nicks etc.

There is another outstanding song, and that's track 12 if I remember correctly, Wherever You Are by Celeste Prince. This really sums up the whole movie in one song. It's a really slow, sad song too. It's been a while since I saw the movie, but is it not right at the very end, in the last few scenes?

Some soundtracks are great, and totally remind you of the film. I'm afraid this movie does nothing to remind me of the film, apart from Enya, Robbie Williams, and Celeste Prince. The rest of the tracks depend on your mood/tastes I guess.

It's not Relentless or Rant in E-Minor or the others in the Rycodisc top 5, but it's still very, very funny. If you're a Hicks fan, this will have you doubled over, cackling like a maniac at least once every five minutes.

This is my personal favorite of all the BH cds I've listened to (minus A-Bay + Dangerous). This is Bill at the top of his game, and the audience loves him. One of the key differences I've noticed between this and Rant is the audiences unhappy reaction on here to his non-smoking. The Ding Dong song has never been more appropriate for our times.
Between these two discs, you get a broad span of most of Bill's jokes that appear on the rest of his. The only odd thing about the production is that the tracks on disc one seem to be broken down more conveniently, the tracks on disc two are much longer and tend to blend into each other. Damn deadlines.
What I prefer in this over Rant is that there is no music between tracks, giving it a real live feel. What is most effective about Bill's presentation is that he is real, and he gets you to think. I hope people don't agree with everything he says. He's not even a role model, but I appreciate how he encourages the puppet people to wake up and smell the BS. If you don't think Bill is funny, check this out. There might even be a DVD of this out somewhere. Definately worth listening to, especially for dubya-haters.

I like to refer to Bill as the "John Lennon of comedy". It's easy to see his idealism turned upside down with repulsion toward the hypocrisy of the fanatical Christians, the insanity and lies of the government and some of the ridiculous rules of society. He truly gives us an important message presented perfectly in a comedy routine that fills up the belly with laughs! I love Bill and this cd has much of his best routines.

I wonder what he'd have to say about the current [...] regime if he were alive today.

Bill had a large following in the UK, and he gives them a great 2 hour show. Even though many of the routines will be familiar, he tailors them to the audience, alternating between fire-and-brimstone preacher, Twain-style political critic, and "goat boy". What a ride..

My problem with some of Hicks' comedy routines is that he focuses so intently and viciously on preaching that the comedy is less prominent. "Salvation" is a great mix of strong comedy and strong preaching. One of the best Hicks albums you could buy.

Up front, I have to state that I am a fan of John Corigliano and of the Corigliano String Quartet. I've listened to this recording a number of times since i got it, and it never fails to reward listening. Each time I find more nuances and associations, and I remain very impressed with both the quality of the recording and of the playing. This is the kind of music that gives contemporary 'classical' music a good name: it is clearly modern, yet deeply informed by a thorough knowledge of classical traditions (listen for resonances of Beethoven's Grosse Fugue in the Fugue movement of the String Quartet) and the world we live in, and it is music that is full of emotion and intelligence, expressed in a truly contemporary idiom. Wonderful.

The last date of the best-documented tour in rock history, Pearl Jam's Seattle, Washington 11/6/00 might be the most important record in the band's entire career. Starting with the dates from the European leg of the tour, then moving through the U.S. East Coast, and finally concluding with the West Coast, every date on Pearl Jam's world tour has been immortalized with its own accompanying CD. Why would the band choose to do this? After listening to this three-disc set, one possible answer looms closer to reality-- it's the last gift to their fans before Pearl Jam calls it quits. "Hello, Seattle, this is it," says lead singer Eddie Vedder after a scorching rendition of "Dissident" (from 1993's Vs.). "One last show, (and) we never play again." After a round of boos, he retreats a little, backpedaling with "at least for quite a while," but it's clear that Vedder and the band are not just tired after a long tour. They're giving some thought to an extended, perhaps permanent, break.

Perhaps better than any other of the "bootleg" releases, it encapsulates the dichotomy of Pearl Jam's iconoclastic catalog. The sweeping set list from the longest show on the tour ranges from the Ten-era anthem rock that made them superstars to the introspective and artsy fare that has characterized their later work. They attack each song the same--with boundless energy and the tight stage savvy of veteran performers. Leading off with a stirring "Release," Vedder's voice bleeds with his now-familiar throaty power, laying into one of the band's signature ballads. He works a similar magic with "Off He Goes" from No Code and "Crazy Mary" (memorably captured on the Victoria Williams benefit record Sweet Relief), as well as Vitalogy's "Betterman," which the Seattle crowd turns into a giant choral number. But Pearl Jam are a rock band, and nowhere is that more apparent than on the start of the second disc, when Vedder and company rip through defining versions of "Even Flow" and "Jeremy," giving guitarist Mike McCready and the rest a proper forum to work the crowd into a sweaty mess.

It has been a wild 10 years since Ten blew the doors off alt-rock, when Vedder and company became worldwide icons and were swept up in the intense, if short-lived, ascendancy of grunge. If it's all coming to an end, it makes this already essential disc that much more so. --Matthew Cooke

This particular album is so awesome. I think the live recording adds to the life of the music. Eddie Vedder has such a distinct voice. He has his soft moments and then will be completely expressive with a screaming style of singing. It sounds so good and his voice can really attract one to the lyrics of his song. Mike McCready plays the guitar so naturally and with passion. I really love the lead guitar in the song "Alive" and "Yellow Ledbetter." Both of those songs tell a story and the guitar seems to take on the role of lead singer along with Eddie. The combination of the two is an awesome call and response technique. Most of their songs create an emotion. "Alive" is deep and really draws emotion once the meaning of the song is revealed. I guess I am drawn to "Yellow Ledbetter" because of Mike McCready. The lead guitar is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. I do not play the guitar, but that song really makes me wish that I could. Their music is simply a pleasure to listen to and just JAM. If I had to make a comparison of music that may be sort of the same, I would have to say Nirvanna because of the similarities in the grunge style. I have every CD they have made and now I am starting to purchase their albums in vinyl.

Classic Pearl Jam gig in Seattle.......2005-11-24

Live In Seattle (Nov. 6 2000), the Pearl Jam's 72nd and final show on the 2000 Binaural Tour

By the turn of the new millenium, the Pearl Jam were one of the few, if not the only band still in existance from the days of Seattle grunge. The band released 'Binural', their 6th studio album in the May of 2000 and following its released, went on tour. It was during this landmark 72 concert tour that the band came up with a completely new idea. To counterract unofficial bootlegs of their concerts, they had the whole of the tour recorded and each concert officially released on CD. No band had ever done this before and so the Pearl Jam trod in unchartered territory with this move. However, the 72 bootled styled concert releases proved to be greatly popular, especially amongst the fans who went to the concerts and wanted a record of the performance they witness. This particular gig is the Pearl Jam's final concert on tour and has gone on to be one of their most famous live performances; so how good does it shape up to be?

For me, Pearl Jam live bootlegs are hard to come by as they are seldom available in England. However, I was fortunate enough to spot a copy of this CD whilst on holiday in the US and immediately snapped it up, being the fanatical Pearl Jam fan that I am. All I can say is, that if this concert is anything to go by, this is a legendary tour. This is classic live music in action. The band's studio albums are awesome but their live performances are something else. The band play stuff right across their catalogue. They far from neglect the early grunge stuff from 'Ten', 'Vs.' and 'Vitalogy' nor are they short on current/recent material and neither do they forget the fan favourites such as 'Yellow Ledbetter'. Aside from this, what makes the concert even better (and all of Pearl Jam's concerts for that fact), is its length. With most modern day bands, you probably expect up to 90 minutes music; with the Pearl Jam, you get up to 3 HOURS, yes 3 HOURS! It just goes to show, yet again how the band truly are in this for their fans and for their love of music, not the money they get from it. This concert, furthermore is interesting in a number of ways. Aside from being the last performance of the tour, it also happened to be the day before the 2000 US election, and you hear Eddie Vedder speaking about that at one point. The album also features Vedder hinting at the prospect that this concert may be the band's last ever (the band at the time was seriously thinking of retiring following the incident in Denmark where fans were killed). However following this comment, he is met by booing and jests, 'For A While, Anyway'. However, at least it is good to know that my all-time favourite band haven't thrown in the towel and are still making albums following this tour! All in all though, this is a legendary concert and one of the most remembered live moments in the band's great career.

During the concert, Pearl Jam play a whole motherlode of songs from their catalogue, 30 in total. The concert kicks off with an introspective performace of 'Release', the closing classic from 'Ten'. Eddie Vedder weaves and emotional performance before the band then jam out 'Corduroy', the protest masterpiece 'Grievance' and punk-rocking 'Hail, Hail' in style. Following highly charged performances of 'Evacuation' and 'Dissident', Eddie Vedder speaks on behalf of the band for the first time in the gig. After mentioning prospects of it being 'the end' for the band and questioning the overpresence of the security guards at the concert, he introduces more 'Binaural' material in 'Nothing As It Seems'. Like a lot of material from the great 'Binaural' album, this song translates excellently live. The band play it excellently, with Gossard catching the song's slow groove with great assurance and Vedder giving another stellar vocal effort. Then, following 'In Hiding' from the 'Yield' album, Vedder marks his appreciation to Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament's 18 years of collaboration before the band proceed to give performances of 'Leatherman', 'Betterman' and 'Nothingman'. The 'Betterman' performance as usual gets a great crowd reception.

CD 2 opens up next with the classic rock songs from 'Ten' in 'Even Flow' and 'Jeremy'. Even after 10 years since 'Ten', the band haven't lost their touch at playing the early material. The aggression filled 'Lukin' follows and then one of my personal favourite Pearl Jam songs in 'Not For You'. It's great to hear this dark, anti-media song played live. It's not the band's best version of the song (the bass lines and guitar hooks felt a little cut down in parts) but I enjoyed it none the less. Then, following an excellent version of 'Daughter', Eddie Vedder takes the opportunity to tell the audience how much better they were than the previous nights crowd before introducing 'Off He Goes' as a tribute to one of the fans who was killed in the Denmark incident. Following a shakey start, the band give a real emotive version of this song. 'Light Years' follows; mellow sounding and rhythmically assured, this is a great performance. Further great 'Binaural' material follows with 'Parting Ways', where the band feature string musicians to create the true style to the song. The band then close the second disc with performances of powerful album openers in 'Go' and 'Once'.

CD 3 is the climax of this great concert. 'Crazy Mary' transmits well, with Vedder giving a strong performance and then the band play their ode to suicide in 'Immortality' with its beautiful riffs and thoughtful lyrics. An inspired jam in 'Alive' follows before Vedder makes a few jibes at Bill Gates before picking up his ukelele and playing 'Soon Forget'. Eddie Vedder then gives an assertive speech on advising people to go out and vote in the coming election before he gets the crowd brimming when he says about the up and coming encores. The first two of these are takes on some songs by the Who. The band gives great versions of 'The Kids Are Alright' and 'Baba O'Riley' before playing their classic finishing song in 'Yellow Ledbetter'. Vedder's vocals deliver once again and McCready's guitar work is first rate.

All in all this is a great concert. Eventhough the band don't give their best live takes on some of the songs and there are some notable slips occasionally, you can't deny that this is a great concert. This finish in Seattle to the band's mammoth tour is a memorable concert and is a great addition to any serious Pearl Jam fan's collection, provided you can get your hands on a copy!

I think the album speaks for itself, therefore I will not comment on the bredth of the songs played or the energy you feel from the crowd and PJ (although I just did didn't I?).

Anyway, for all you naysayers out there commenting on the politics, and "rants" from Eddie in this concert I do have a few words...The politics and issues behind Pearl Jam's music is what makes them a great band. They are not just among the best musicians in the business, but the passion behind their message is unmatched in a mainstream band. PJ is clearly touched by social issues and is doing what it can to spread their message. If you don't appreciate musicians speaking their mind then don't go to PJ shows or listen to their music, its an essential component. After all, the best art is that which comes from the heart. To quote another favorite of mine, Greg Brown: "There's a singer singing about nothing at all, but he looks pretty good and he's knocking them dead down at the mall"...a fine statement about mainstream music. Fortunately, with Pearl Jam, you get the best of both worlds and with this concert hours and hours of listening enjoyment to reflect on the impression this band has left on the music world and the world as a whole.

Vacate is the Word!.......2004-11-06

I'm the owner of roughly one out of every six 2000 bootlegs, and this one is the best. The lyrical flubs that plague some shows limit themselves here to Evenflow. To make up for it, all Pearl Jam does is give us transcendent takes on virtually all of their best material. If Betterman, Corduroy, Dissident, Hail Hail, Immortality, In Hiding, Leatherman, Not for you, Nothing as it Seems, Nothingman, Parting Ways, RVM, Soon Forget, or Yellow Ledbetter are your favorite Pearl Jam songs, you'll find them performed at their finest here. And YES, Ed finally gets Immortality right! Also included are excellent Who covers: Baba O'Riley and The Kids are Alright. If there's any criticism to be found, it's because of the relative absence of No Code/Yield material. I don't know about you, but getting a definitive collection of the rest of their music is good enough for me.

After what turned out to be the defining year of the band's career, the emotions run high in every Mike McCready guitar solo, every Matt Cameron drum beat, and every word out of Eddie Vedder's mouth. If you can't feel it, I don't know what to tell you. It just always seems to get a little dusty in my room when I'm playing the third disc, and Ed says "This is it... this is it, and we go home... We'll see you in the voting booth tomorrow." The world's greatest rock band, home after six months of triumph and tragedy... and then Yellow Ledbetter starts up.

has to be the best Pearl Jam concert ever.......2004-07-02

i bought this one in 2001 i believe.. sometime in june.. it has to be the greatest live album i've heard.. the sound quality was excellent, and everything.. awesome setlist, i just wish it had Breath or Last Exit on it.. but regardless it's a great live album.. and i would prolly pay $300 to have gone.. but i didnt really listen to Pearl Jam till march of 2001.. if you haven't kept track with the band, no they did not break up or anything.. actually they released another album (Riot Act), a few live concert CDs from that tour (the PA State College one is pretty good).

A Tremendous Recording.......2004-01-30

I've never heard cello music sound like this. It was first introduced to me by a friend. I don't find his work to be confined to being "New Age" or "Classical". It's very univeral.

Each recording layers intense drones and pluckings of the cello's voice which still have me guessing at how he could create such noises!

It might feel a bit dark and solemn upon the first listen, but its a lot more complex than that. David Darling is a magician of a craftsman, and this record never stops astounding me.

Revisiting old acquaintances portends, sometimes, a pleasant journey. I still remember those long lost ECM LP's i had years ago ; for some time, i explore the current ECM catalog which contains many splendid silver discs.

There are things that, for mysterious reasons, did not resurface on the market, such as a fine atmospheric recording by french-horn player John Clark ("Faces" [1980] ECM 1176). Similarly, i regret an excellent album from Arild Andersen ("Clouds In My Head" [1975] ECM 1059). Alas, looks like several great ECM recordings from the LP era will never make it on cd. But, as a consolation, one thing is sure : In the bunch of recent recordings (those of the 'CD era') there are truly superb ones---many of them as remarkable as the first generations ECM's.

That leads us to this admirable recording, certainly one of the great albums on ECM in the 1990's and, indeed, from their entire catalog. Listening to David Darling's "Cello", i felt immediate images ; here the cinematic quality of the music emphasizes communication between musician and listener. The beautifully crafted sonic universe is rendered at no less than audiophile quality level, thanks to Manfred Eicher's production at Rainbow Studio in Norway (top engineering is a usual trademark of this label).

For this work Darling uses the acoustic cello and completes with the aerial and wonderful sonorities of the eight-string electric cello, to which sometimes he adds special effects such as the use of a digital delay. The recording has lots of space, an ethereal, vast and contemplative atmosphere, not unlike that of John Surman's "Upon Reflection" (ECM 1148). To my view, here is music to unfold the sky ; i imagine myself dancing alone, in a field, looking at the passage of clouds above my head, under the winds of a vast autumnal landscape. I don't want to sound esoteric---this music is neither esoteric nor is it really new age... It is pure and simple contemporary in good old ECM fashion.

David Darling succeeds in the presentation of his solo works (more compositions than improvisations, i guess): Darkwood 1 is much like the overture to a classical composition. In fact, the album starts on a mood that recalls the eerie pastoral response typical of the finest classical/folk works from Scandinavia or England. The sonic crossroads of "Cello" build bridges between different styles of music---folk, classical, jazz and world music. The result is an extraordinary sort of contemporary music, in my opinion... The album surpasses the abusive limitations of a definite genre.

"Cello" is all about atmosphere. Still, it is at once strange and melodic. Most of the tracks sound enigmatically distant and sombre like a late November afternoon. I can't think of another record that can bear comparison to this one.

Darling is a classically trained musician who played with the Paul Winter Consort in the early 1970s. He also played music with many notable jazz musicians, including Jan Garbarek and Ralph Towner. This CD shows to great effect the 'verbal' utterance and articulation of this wondrous orchestral and solo instrument. Another unusual and, indeed, essential recording by the ECM label. *****

Soft Cello for the soul and the mind........2001-11-26

Generally I don't beleive that New Age music has to be so Preachy as it tends to do.......after all, not everyone who listens to New Age music listens to it to Meditate or to Reap its universal messege of oneness......I personally dont agree with all that stuff........I listen to it strickly for the peacefullness and to escape from the Rock music sometimes.

David Darling is proving himself in my mind to do exactly what I buy his music for..........I find myself listening to "Cello" in my car in the morning before going into a stressful day of work.
I listen to his music on the way home from such a day also.
I leave it up to God to ease my thoughts and my restless spirit,
However......listening to this music is like taking an Asprin....
it at least gets you prepared for whats ahead and perhaps prevents more headaches to come.

I Own Six David Darling Cds.....the 2 Musical Messege Cd's.....
"8 String Religion"........"Darkwood"........"Cello" and "Cello Blue".
I Can't say I favor one over the other.
David also worked along with my favorite Piano music.....Michael Jones on an LP called "Amber".......I own that on LP but cant find it anywhere on CD..........I highly recommend that to those who enjoy David.

Music to hear a hundred times or more.......2001-04-28

I've had this CD for at least five years and it has never really left my pile of CD's that I listen to on a regular basis. It is quiet but tough and never vapid. There is grit here as well as serenity. I always liked the music in Godards films and several of the pieces here are dedicated to Godard and are very evocative of his films. The best CD I have heard by David Darling.

Chamber music from mysterious South.......2000-09-05

This recording, actually a compilation of two records released by Flying Fish Records in the 70's, provides the bridge between Norman's early solo work and his later efforts with the Rising Fawn String Ensemble. A marvelous mix of original songs (Graycoat Soldiers, Old Brown Case, Billy Gray, Last Train from Poor Valley) and traditional tunes (most interesting - a three-part Cuckoo's Nest) presented with understated elegance, mostly by Norman with Nancy Short (later Nancy Blake), Charlie Collins, Tut Taylor, and Sand Mountain fiddler James Bryan.

This one, by the way, drives guitar players crazy due to the fact that Norman doesn't always play in standard (A=440) tuning, preferring to tweak the strings up or down just a bit as it fits the song. Norman once said at a workshop "Sometimes I guess I just hear a song a little different than standard..."

I found Fields Of November in a used record store in Orlando, Fla. in 1992 after buying Home In Sulphur Springs (Norman Blake & Tut Taylor) the year before. Definitely a priceless part of my collection. It was the first time I'd heard Norman and Nancy together and was hooked on their blend of harmony. Nancy's cello is a perfect match for Norman's pickin'. There's a special feeling of comfort listening to their music. Fields Of November is a must for anyone interested in traditional American music. If you don't have it yet, check out Home In Sulphur Springs, and you'll see where his roots come from.

I first listened to Fields of November in about 1977-8? time frame. It blew me away then with the virtuoso performances on guitar and fiddle. I have owned this recording in every genre from vinyl to cd and will always have a copy in my collection.

An American Classic.......1999-08-30

I've got a whole lot of records, and this is one of the desert island five. It is straight forward, unaffected country folk music played by an utter virtuouso. Norman Blake manages to sum up 200 years of rural American sensibility without descending into mawkish sentiment, or retreating into the pose of a folk historian. He has come in from outside, sat down, cleared his throat and blown you away without so much as a wasted gesture. It's just awesome.

On first or second listen, this record might fool you. You might say, "What's so special about this? It's dry and it's boring, and I've heard it all before." What you've heard before, though, are imperfect attempts to call forth the spirit that Norman Blake writes and sings about, and represents.

Traditional American music just doesn't get better than this record. It is a monument. If Fields of November was the only thing he ever did, Blake would be one of the great American originals. Make no mistake, this guy is the real thing.

Surprise!.......2003-08-20

I bought this CD for 1.00 at a closeout sale..and I have to say I got a a great surprise in the song "Star Tramps" I love that song! I have to say thought that the CD artwork and cover need to be redone...it is not representitive of the great music. The whole CD is not a hit but I love it when I am surprised at the music and lyrics and China Forbes did that for me. Bravo!

Bootleg Dream.......2007-05-14

This is pretty good stuff! All Tangerine Dream fans who love electronica, this is the album for you. The recording is right before TD started to get into heavy sampling and computer generated sounds that dominated the albums from the mid-80's onward. This is a bootleg recording like the "sets" collection vol 1 & vol 2. The quality is very good and it is enjoyable to listen to. This is a good addition to any TD collection.

Intensely psychadelic performance........2007-05-01

With less annoying crowd chatter than other Bootmon releases of their concerts this lets you enjoy the music for what it is...raw mindaltering electronic nirvanna.Not as slick and polished as modern day Tangerine Dream and sure the technology is a little bit dated but the performance has a palpable sustained almost feverish intensity that can never be recreated by anyone else(not even Tangerine Dream themselves).A literal blast from the past and a great collector's item.

Oh my God, this CD is awesome. It completely amazed me. I bought their second album, "The Room's Too Cold," which is really good, and I saw this one at the store for $8, and thought, Why not? Believe me, this one is so much better than their full-length. It will be worth every dime you spend on it, and that's not a whole lot.
