About the Artist
Singer-songwriter-bassist John Lester has been a sideman bass player for over 20 years. He is also an award winning songwriter who won the "Song of the Year" award for the Northern California Songwriters Association in 1999 and again in 2001 .

Four years ago John stepped out of the background and started impressing San Francisco audiences by playing bass and singing his songs without accompaniment. His set includes a wide variety of styles using upright bass, five and six-string electric basses as well as guitar. He plays acoustically as well as using live sampling devices to create tracks on stage. Bay area clubs John has appeared at include: The Sweetwater, Freight and Salvage Coffee House, The Hotel Utah, Strings, The Bazaar Café, The Paradise Lounge, The Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Slim's, and The Great American Music Hall.

Throughout his career as a bassist John has played a wide variety of music including folk, jazz, pop, rock, latin, swing, and R&B. His different musical influences bring a diversity to his performances that create a unique experience for the listener. He is equally at home in pop/rock, jazz, or folk venues. John not only presents a refreshing singer-songwriter show that introduces his audiences to the nuances of the bass, he delivers powerful songs that touch their hearts.
