Product Description
15 years later and right on schedule, Shari has finally completed her debut CD.

Shari decided to see if she could turn her funny little poems and stories into songs. The experiment worked and she ended up with a bunch of songs. So she played her songs for friends and strangers. People wanted at tape. Shari jokes "When I started this project, it was way before they had CDs. I was just trying to make an 8 track tape."

Many of the songs are just Shari and her $15 thrift store guitar. Songs like the crowd pleasing "Jesus at the Hardware Store."

"I can't play at a local coffee shop here without getting a request for that song, unless, of course, no one knows me there."

Then, when she got her demo deal, Karyn Rachtman, Interscope Records Soundtrack President (at the time) gave her an omnichord. Omnichord enthusiasts, you're in for a treat with "Shari's Big Omnichord Hits" (six songs recorded with the omnichord) People have thrown around comparisons (Daniel Johnson, Jill Sobule, Blondie?!, Cher-well, Shari throws that around but it usually lands on the floor.)

"I've been getting lots of good reviews from the comedy and college radio programs I've been sending the CD to, to my mom, to my friends and their friends and even some strangers."

3 out of 5 stars Forcing Folk Art Upon The Earth.......2005-10-08

Although Shari Elf has been writing and performing her folk songs for years, I just discovered her recently in "Scram Magazine." After learning about Shari in "Scram," I checked out her web site and listened to her song clips online. I was pleasantly surprised. Shari's songs are enjoyable and catchy. So, I bought her CD. Shari does some covers of old favorites, like "Ring of Fire" and "Dream a Little Dream of Me," but the best songs are her own. My favorite is "Jerk-a-lator."

I'm a nice girl; I'll be your elevator.
I'm a nice girl; I'll be your escalator.
I'm a nice girl; I'll be your percolator.
I'm a nice girl...
I hope you're not a jerk-a-lator.

This is not a CD to buy for your teenager because Shari does not sound like Beyonce or Britney Spears. Shari's sound is eccentric, gentle and clean. These are amusing folk songs that you can safely play for your younger children. They're easy to sing along with in the car. If you're skeptical, you can listen to her clips and find out more about Shari's fascinating life on her web site www.sharielf.com

5 out of 5 stars Creative, Funny, Intelligent, Phoebe-Music.......2001-11-04

I was turned on to this album by a friend and really was expecting to listen for 30 seconds and then let it go. I mean Phoebe is cute and all but come on, a whole CD of it? I was amazed that these silly little quirky songs were presented in such an interesting, intelligent, and musical way. I'm a big fan of Christine Lavin, and now she's been replaced in my player by Shari Elf. I'm sure Christine will come back soon, but for now I just can't get enough of Shari!

Buy it, you'll smile and notice something new each time you listen!
