Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Magna Carta are renowned for their gentle ballad style and mythical subject matter. Although never purely a folk band, they managed to successfully bridge the gap between folk and folk-rock. The band was originally formed in London in May 1969 by Chris Simpson, Lyell Tranter, with Glen Stuart (vocals) added to the line-up shortly afterwards. The trio released albums for Fontana Records and Vertigo Records, enjoying particular success with 1970's Seasons. Davey Johnstone (guitar/vocals) joined the line-up, recording Songs From Wasties Orchard and In Concert with the band before leaving to work with Elton John and Kiki Dee. Simpson and Stuart were then joined by Stan Gordon (guitar), recording and releasing the much-lauded Lord Of The Ages (texts from this album and Seasons were used as part of the English syllabus in several European countries). Took a Long Time was released on vinyl in 1976 and has never been out on C.D. before. The same album was also released as Putting it Back Together. Global. 2006

5 out of 5 stars Excellent choice for your music dollar!.......2001-06-04

Just got this CD and am "hooked". Many of the songs on the CD I notice myself humming at various times during the day.

The best songs, in my opinion, are Absolutely Certain, On the Beach, and Allergic to You... Though there are many other good songs on the CD.

I recommend this CD highly! Enjoy!

      5 out of 5 stars I can't RESTRAIN my enthusiasm!.......2001-06-03

If you are a person like me who is tired of Top 40 countdowns and overproduced teeny-bopper studio albums -- and you just want some good honest homegrown rock -- this is the CD for you! A native Philly band I've just discovered, Restraining Order has a something for everyone; a mix of rock, punk, and ska, with a couple of sweet ballads thrown in for good measure. I've also had the pleasure of seeing them perform live a few times, and they jam!
