Some of today's leading Celtic performers have contributed to this exciting collection of instrumental music from Ireland, Scotland, Brittany and Wales. This 15-track release, which features 6 new tracks and nine previously recorded compositions covers centuries of Gaelic history and scores of musical styles.

The musical mix includes the fiddling magic of such renowned artists as Alasdair Fraser, Martin Hayes, and Deby Benton Grosjean. Also featured are such noted musicians as Seamus Egan, Paul Machlis, and Kevin Burke as well as Gourd Music recording artists William Coulter, Barry and Shelley Phillips, Danny Carnahan and Robin Petrie, Martin Simpson, Kim Robertson, Orison, and Neal Hellman.

Celtic Voyage features exquisite airs such as Cití na gCumman, All Through the Night, Between Deighre and Breo, and The Quiet Land of Erin alongside such uptempo dance pieces as The Rose in the Heather/Tom Billy's Jig, The Flowing Tide/The Gypsies/The Roaring Hornpipe, Sliabh Russel/Come West along the Road, St. Patrick's Day/Over the Moor to Maggie, and Breton Dances. Also featured are a number of compositions by legendary harper Turlough O'Carolan, including The Faerie Queene, Separation of Body and Soul, and The Lament for Owen Roe O'Neil. We have been looking for this particular song for our daughter's upcoming wedding. It is perfect. We also really like the other songs on the CD. John McDermott has a wonderful smooth voice.

A Voyage with John McDermott.......2006-08-23

My husband and I are huge John McDemott fans and this is our favorite CD of all those we own. I purchased it for myself and my husband liked it so much he took my CD to play in his car so I had to buy myself another as I got tired of asking him for it back! Each song is unique and some like One Small Star are like poetry set to music. Of particular note is the beautifully done song Natives which has a haunting duet in French that is a favorite and sounds new and fresh each time we listen to it. The background music on this is fabulous and the musicians are all wonderful,as they are with each song on this CD as well. It's a delightful CD and one that we have not only listened to countless times but also given as gifts to friends and family.

Just OK.......2002-10-11

After reading the reviews for this CD I thought I would try a copy to get the song "Daughter of Mine"
It was an OK song but I found another song on (Amazon.com) that I liked much more for my father bride dance.
Its called "A Song For My Daughter"
The words to this song are much better and it was nice to get both a male and female version of "A Song For My Daughter" so it could be from my dad or mom. We used the male vocal and when dad and I danced everyone had tears in their eyes.

Love is a Voyage.......2002-10-05

My husband fell in love with the song, "Love is a Voyage".After much looking I found it at Amazon.ca. We love the song, and have recommended this CD to friends. Love is a voyage and finally we found our true shipmates.

Daughter of Mine.......2002-04-20

A must for any father who is about to see his daughter marry. "Daddy's Little Girl" is a song of the past.

"Voyage" a great love song.......2004-03-18

"Voyage" is song to build a life on; I'm going to be singing this one at my brother's wedding this fall. The words are touching and describe the type of steafast determination that any relationship "journey" requires: "Life is an ocean/love is a boat/in troubled waters/it keeps us afloat/when we started the voyage/it was just me and you/now, gathered round us, we have our own crew." Yes!

I've listened to this CD dozens of times and it keeps calling me back to listen to it more. This is a working man expressing the feelings of the working man.

Not your usual Christy, but Great nonetheless........1999-12-23

This CD may not pack the punch of Christy's traditional Irish CD's but for one who loves the ballads and the songs with a message, this one is good. I loved it!

Not one of Christy's best.......1999-08-07

This album suffers from weak songs and a weak production; songs like "missing you" and "musha god help her" pack none of the punch of the live Christy, and are reduced to sounding like wallpaper music. Standout tracks are "All for the Roses", a great cover of Ewan MacColl's "First time ever I saw your face", and "Middle of the Island", a haunting duet with Sinead O'Conner. These are great, the rest is a bit bland.

Still sounds good after all these years..........2005-07-08

I first heard this album about 1983 and loved it the first time I heard it. The music is about the Tim Severin voyage from Southwestern Ireland to Newfoundland in a leather boat called a curragh via the Faeroes and Iceland to demonstrate that St Brendan could have done it 1300 years ago. The music is very emotive and original and matches the wild scenery of the voyage. It's a brilliant album and Liam O Flynn's uillean (elbow) pipe playing is an expert performance, although many other instruments also feature - it's a bit like classical music mixed with folk. Well worth a listen.

calming uplifting "traditional" music.......2006-01-27

This is a great CD to listen to as background music or to veg out with headphones on. It is calming and soft and the arrangements of traditional music are very catchy and quite good. The contributing musicians are fantastic. I own other Celtic CDs and I must say this is one of my favorites. I never tire of the variety and engaging compositions. Highly recommend. If you are not a Celitic music fan, this could make you one.
