From the Archives Vol.1... I'm all ready for Volume 2!.......2007-02-24
Oh Happy Days! After nearly two decades, one of the hardest working bands around has pulled some of their "shelved" work to create the first "From the Archives" album. This 1o song collection (with a bonus video clip of "Cold Blooded") has the raw feel of Another Mayberry and Midnight Radio, but with a crisp recording quality. As a salute to the BHTM old school material on it the CD has a great retro look to it designed to resemble an old 45 record.
Some of the album highlights. The opening track "I Never Loved You" hits you right away with an aggressive Blues riff. "Love Besides the Weather" is a moody, atmospheric tune that reminds me of the intensity of "Geography of a Horse Dreamer." "House Burn Down" is just fantastic and "Healing Train" is powerful especially when Todd starts growling the lyrics as the tension builds. "Carnival" is one of the more experimental songs on the record, but does not disappoint. "Brother John" is the only song that is from a previous album, but the version here is an earlier one. As is the style and tradition of BHTM, there are no bad songs to be found. Even the reggae inspired "There is a Reason" makes your head bob to the rhythm.
Fans of the band should enjoy this album, and diehard fans and throwbacks to their earlier days should absolutely revel with this collection of work. Newcomers to the sound and style of BHTM or those going to a live show might do better with some of their more recognized work first as the songs here may rarely be played live. But as far as I'm concerned, what's old is new... and spectacular.

Classic Punk from back in the day.......2007-07-06
Classic New York punk from back in the day. Fast, angry and political. They should have been big, should have stood along side Dead Kenedys as one of the main political punk band around pity they never got the recognition they deserved.
Check this out and check out Antidote while you are at it.
FIRST HALF OF THIS ALBUM IS REALLY GREAT.......2007-01-14
When I first heard this CD I was really impressed. I was really enjoying the catchy old school hardcore punk tunes like "Reagan Youth", "New Arayns", "(Are You) Happy?", "No Class", and "USA". Then suddenly about halfway through the CD everything went downhill. Honestly the second half isn't as good as the first half. So all in all if you like old hardcore punk then check this out, but be prepared for some not so great songs alongside the great songs.
ONE OF NEW YORK'S FINEST!!!!...AND MISSED!!!.......2006-10-23
I remember, long ago before the internet took hold on our brains and our fingertips when the early days of punk rock communication were based off of the scenes strongest element in the word of mouth or a telephone call... I was at school when I heard David had killed himself from a friend who came in class late. I think my friends and I were at a loss. Reagan Youth had just put out their second LP fairly recently on Nicky Garret's New Red Archives label. I actually wept later over my beer that evening as my crew got together and blaired the "Youth Anthems For The New Order" and "Volume 2" LP's in continuos rotation. Reagan Youth were one of those narly hardcore bands that got you through and shaped your life as a kid. The sounds of DYS, Agression, X, Slime (Germany), D.O.A., The Subhumans (Canadian), DDT, SS Decontrol, The Stalin, Manson Youth, Neon Christ, U.K. Subs, the list goes on were all an integral part shaping me as a youth both musically and intellectually. Reagan Youth were a very powerful force whether it be the humorous beligerence against society from the early days or the conceptual rantings from the second LP. I know Dave took a bad spiral and I understand why he took the way out that he chose. Life in itself is complex, painful and there are no guarantees that you will ever have a happy ending. If you don't have this already buy it!!
DIE UNTERMENSCHEN
good hardcore.......2006-03-24
This is good 80's hardcore,If you are new to punk I suggest you pick this up and add it to your collection.
Fantastic album...... until about two/thirds through.......2006-03-16
Until the track "Jesus Was A Communist," this is a flawless, breakneck speed early 80's hardcore disc. After that point, it gets a bit too metal-ish for my taste (I mean, come on.... there's practically a guitar solo on What Will the Neighbors Think.)
So, I gave this 4 Stars instead of 5. Additionally, I gave it 4 instead of 3 because it's an important piece of musical history (which I'm sure that Reagan Youth would find pretty funny) and because the first 11 tracks are so great.

Product Description
"The Infamous Archives" is a 30 track, double disc walk through the Mobb Deep vaults. With rare exception these cuts have not been heard by Mobb Deep fans. The cuts on "The Infamous Archives" go back to the group's mid to late 90s hardcore heyday. Start to finish this release is illustrative of Mobb Deep's dark, dynamic, grimy sound with haunting melodies courtesy of Havoc's production, that to many represented "street" in a way not done by anyone ever before. Additionally, Prodigy's penchant for starting off a verse with an attention grabbing line, writing raw rhymes based heavily on the Queensbridge slang they call the dunn language, and a distinct, hen-rock induced delivery appeals to the core fan's lyrical sensibilities. The double disc boasts collaborations with 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Cormega, Tragedy Khadafi, Onyx, Infamous Mobb, Big Noyd, Alchemist and More! Prodigy and Havoc, powered themselves to the top of the hardcore rap scene through their straightforward narration of street life portraying the struggles of living in New York City's Queensbridge housing projects. Almost immediately on release, "The Infamous" became one of the most influential Hip Hop albums of the East Coast hardcore rap genre. Their production also was noticed as the beats are often hard hitting and direct, a testament to Havoc, who produced the duo's tracks almost exclusively throughout their career. Furthermore, the smash hit single "Shook Ones Pt. II", received critical acclaim and was well-received within the Hip Hop community. Their third album, "Hell on Earth" was released in 1996, debuting at number six on the Billboard album chart. The album continued their portrayal of a harsh street life, while further pushing them to the forefront of the hardcore rap scene, along with contemporary East Coast rappers such as Notorious B.I.G., the Wu-Tang Clan collective, Jay-Z, and fellow Queensbridge associate, Nas. In 1999, the duo released the highly anticipated "Murda Muzi

Customer Reviews:
i found it excellent.......2007-07-27
if you love the mobbs gritty sound and raw beats, then this is for you, both cds were a great addition to my collection.even as much as i like the whole g-unit crew, some from g-unit do appear on the cds,but its not overly done with just g-unit,the mobb was allowed to shine again, plus a huge line up of different rappers, makes for great varity throo the album.....well done mobb
Mobb Deep's unreleased gems.......2007-05-30
This is a very good product. On the first CD there are some old unreleased joints, from the "Hell On Earth" period in the mid nineties. The beats are really grimey: the infamous touch is back. The best ones are "Everyday Gunplay", "Reach", "Perfect Plot", "Block life". On the CD 2 the songs are more recent. The beats look like those on "Amerika's Nightmare". This Cd is not good as the first, but there are 2 killer infamous tracks: "gangstas roll" and "My Priorities". To finish it's a good acquisition, and the quality of the sound is much better than in the "Mobb Misses" mixtapes.
add this to your Mobb collection .......2007-05-07
this CD restores the classic image of the mobb, if you are a big fan, i highly recommend getting this two disc album because it has songs that sound like they should have been on their second CD "The Infamous" it has those good old horrific thug tails from P. and the H-A-V-O-C.

Product Description
Archives of Ages to Come, the fifth commercial CD from Emerald Rose, is an "evolutionary moment" for the band. Not just Celtic folk anymore, the songs include elements of jazz, rock, pop, and world-beat, along with messages both ancient and relevant to modern times. The sixteen tracks on this CD range from Gypsy/Pagan chant (Come To The Dance), to heartfelt Celtic mythological ballads (Before the Twilight Falls, Gwydion's Song), to rocked-up Pagan anthems (Three More Drops, Four Jacks). Scientists and astronomers will appreciate "Urania Sings", a rock ballad about the muse of astronomers, while fans of the Allman Brothers might groove on "Autumn in Asheville", a jazzy instrumental. There's also the band's well-known humor twist, with "Dance of the Rats" describing a kitchen nightmare, and the evolution rant "We Come From Monkeys" rocking down on fundamentalist nonsense with some heavy guitar and dance beats. There's even a couple of covers of Celtic classics: "Queen of Argyll" from Andy M. Stewart and "Irish Heartbeat" from Van Morrison. Somehow, it all ties together into an emotional journey that we hope will delight you again and again!
Customer Reviews:
Amazing, heartfelt album!.......2006-03-19
With every new album, Emerald Rose keeps getting better and better. I'm not just referring to the enthusiasm of a fan here, though certainly there is plenty of that; the quality of musicianship, which was never bad, has increased exponentially for this recording.
The very first song, Come to the Dance, pulls the listener in immediately and definitely makes it difficult NOT to dance or at least move around a bit.
Before the Twilight Falls is one of my new Emerald Rose favorites. This haunting love song is full of longing and in-between spaces akin to Ladyhawke, and some of the harmonies just reach in and tug at the heart in ways that really enhance the song.
Three More Drops makes reference to Taliesin and Cerridwyn without specifically mentioning their names and incorporates the shapeshifting inherent in that legend. It's fun and thought-provoking at the same time.
Gwydion's Song to Lleu has a more mellow pace, but I still find myself humming it at the strangest times; I'd probably be singing it, but I don't know a bit of Welsh!
Four Jacks is not a song about a particularly nice poker hand, but rather about celebrating the divine masculine throughout the seasons. It provides some nice balance to the lovely songs Emerald Rose sings celebrating the divine feminine, such as Urania Sings.
Irish Heartbeat is one I particularly enjoy, extolling the virtue of spending time with one's cherished family and friends, reminding the listener that there is where one may find the care and support each of us need.
The new version of Dagger of the Moon is leaps and bounds above the previous version. Though the tune is the same, the music enhances the lyrics much better in this new version and really contributes to the feeling of mysticism the song conveys. There are even a couple of places in the song where the listener can easily be convinced that they are howling at the moon, though done in a way that has plenty of plausible deniability.
Whistler's Farewell is another pleasant surprise; I was sure that it must be a traditional song they'd come across, but the lyrics and music were written by Emerald Rose's Arthur Hinds. What an amazingly authentic Celtic feel!
Dance of the Rats makes me smile every time I hear it; is it a dream sequence, or isn't it? This song and We Come From Monkeys provide a bit of lightheartedness after the emotional and mystical journey through which the band has taken the listener through the rest of the album, giving a satisfying finish.
Archives is truly the best release yet by Emerald Rose, with superior quality of vocals and instrumentation and a definite sense that they have connected with the meanings behind their lyrics in much more than a superficial way. I can't rate this album highly enough!
Five Galaxies.......2006-03-05
Five stars doesn't do this album justice, so I'm amplifying the rating by a few orders of magnitude.
All of the musical threads that ER have been spinning since the beginning are woven together in this album: Pagan anthems ("Come to the Dance" is MY song, but I'll let you listen to it if you promise to dance), updated Celtic song, the Bardic tradition, and uber-geek humor.
They even cover the Silly Wizard classic, "Queen of Argyll." Talk about cheeky!
That should NOT work. Definitely one of those things "you can't do." In that sense, this album shows just how far behind dedication and talent can leave conventional wisdom.
Five of the songs on this album can be found on other ER releases, although that counts four from the limited edition "Songs from the Night Sky." I believe those four are essentially or exactly the same recordings, whereas the version of "Dagger of the Moon" on Archives is a complete remake.
The production values, arrangements, and execution on Archives are stellar. There are so many pinpoint details of phrasing and ornamentation sparkling through this album that one really needs to sit down and listen to it (for many of the cuts, this will likely only happen when you tire of dancing around like Puck on Starbucks).
The vocals are astounding on this album. "Dagger of the Moon," for example, is light-years beyond the version previously recorded. The sequence of "Four Jacks" to "Irish Heartbeat," had me in tears by the end of Heartbeat. For the record, that's not easy. The last time music made me cry just for sheer beauty, it was a masterful performance of a song of Guillaume de Machaut that did it, which puts ER in exalted company indeed.
I don't know if anyone is put off by the explicit Paganism of many of the songs. I would say they needn't be: this isn't shrill, teenage-angst, moaning-about-the-Burning-Times fluff here; this is a mature, intelligent, fully-fledged worldview that the Emperor Julian would be proud to acknowledge.
The album ends with a supernova of silliness, in the form of the new fairy-tale-cum-pizza-nightmare "Dance of the Rats" and the Professor Boggs (Larry) special, "We Come from Monkeys," an irreverent, arrogant, and completely correct flip-off of the anti-Darwin crowd. The comic relief is a good way to wind this down, because the other songs have carried us to such heights and depths that we're likely exhausted and in need of a laugh.
A rich tapestry of sounds and imagery.......2005-12-02
Archives is ER's best effort to date. The opening strains of "Come to the Dance" invite the listener to journey with the band through an album that is diverse yet perfectly blended. Combining blues, rock and Celtic music to form what is truly the Emerald Rose sound, Archives delights the senses and emotions. The delicate music and theme of "Before the Twilight Falls" gives way to devotion to beauty in "Queen of Argyll" concluding with the driving political stance of "We Come From Monkeys." It is a CD that will make you want to rejoice, tap your foot and dance.
Astonishing.......2005-10-23
If Emerald Rose "bent tradition" in their aptly named 2000 release, now at last they've broken it open like an egg. And a sound lustrous and wonderful has emerged.
This is a polished, multi-threaded collection that combines Celtic and World influences with stunning Rock. The tracks merge lyric penny whistle with harmonious voices, throbbing drums with kick-ass guitar. But most remarkable is the vision presented by these songs--a blend of magic and science, Goddess-consciousness and humor, politics and myth. This is song-writing so good it will break your heart one moment, make it soar the next.
In a lesser work, the title might be prententious. Instead it perfectly expresses an artistry that reveres the past but is savy to the present and peers resolutely at the future. Listen to this CD and, to borrow a phrase from one of the songs, you just might "evolve a bigger mind."
Emerald Rose is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-10-20
I have been listening to Emerald Rose for years, have been to many so their concerts, and own most of their CDs. I have to say that Archives of Ages to Come is the best one yet. They have truly grown into their own with this one. If you've never listened to any of their music, I highly suggest you buy this CD, it is the true peak of their musical talents. Blending traditonal with modern, and throwing a bit of humor into the mix gives you a feeling of harmony that no other band could ever achieve.
I love you guys!!!

Album Description
Anti-Flag tosses up the kind of vintage, early-'80s, So-Cal, melodic punk that B.Y.O., Frontier, Posh Boy, and other labels specialized in, and a ska song is welcome. New Red Archives.

An album I could imagine Emma Goldman and Ward Churchill slam-dancing to!.......2007-02-01
Besides being really awesome activists and talented punk rockers, these guys are totally hot! I'm sure that some of you homophobes out there will cringe at that remark, but oh well, get over yourselves. What can I say? Mohawks and righteous politics turn me on. More accessible than earlier anarcho-punk bands like Crass or Conflict, Anti-flag is bringing radical punk into the 21st century. Imagine a younger, cuter Noam Chomsky playing an electric guitar and you'll get an idea of what this band is about. Fans of Propagandhi will love this album. Angry, passionate, and committed to social change, this is a band you need to hear, a band that truly speaks to the real concerns of my generation, a band using their talent not to pacify the masses but to encourage them instead to fight for a better world.
The First the best.......2006-09-08
This is one of Anti-flag's best albums pick this one up
One of the best punk albums!.......2006-06-29
This CD is one of the best ever. It combines talented playing (don't listen to the guy who says they aren't- Andy Flag was one of the greatest bass players ever) and effective lyrics that require thinking to interpret the meaning (such as "Kill the Rich". THey don't mean it literally, genius!) Over all, it is one of my favorite CDs along with:
The Casualties- Early Years 1990-1995, Die Hards and On the Front Line
Rancid- ...And out come the wolves and Rancid (2000)
The Unseen- State of Discontent
Dead Kennedys- Bectime For Democracy, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, and Give me Convenience or Give me Death.
Got to Die for yur governement, die for yur country that's S***!.......2006-06-24
This CD is pretty polictical but it still is amazing in my book. This has cool songs like die for your governement and you'd do the same and it also is pretty underrated. I actually enjoy listening to this album. If you are a fan of Anti-Flag and you do not own this one, you should definatly check it out. Its pretty cool. 4.5 stars!
Are they for real?.......2006-03-20
This is pure Green Day sounding garbage that claims to be punk. If you want real punk check out the Clash, Ramones, Social Distortion, .....etc. the list can keep going on. Save your money please.

Essential REAL punk rock!.......2003-10-28
While the Dils' handful of studio recordings are great, I've always felt that their best songs unfortunately never made it on to wax. These bootleg-quality live tracks of "New Kicks", "Before The Law", "National Guard" etc. only remind me of what a crime it was that they never got around to recording a long player, or at least more singles. The Clash influence is pretty obvious, but you also hear the Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, and 60's pop (among other things) in the Dils' sound. As musicians and songwriters, they were head-and-shoulders above most of their peers.
great stuff.......2003-03-15
What a great group! Saw them perform in Monterey in 78 (me and about 40 others). Did they ever look cool in just denim jackets and jeans. Also played a Hendrix cover as an encore...can't remember what though. Anyway, this is a good collection of songs from a band that should have been bigger, and probably would have been had they stuck to it a few more years (and lost the hammer-and-sickle tee shirts).
Kinmania began here..........2002-10-16
Yeah, this is a great CD, it gives you that kinetic live feeling they had (even tho I was too young to see 'em in the flesh at the time), altho from Chip I'd gotten on tape even RADDER live versions of Citizen, National Guard, Wreck, and New Kicks (the makers of this CD should've asked him for 'em!! that's why only 4 stars).....it's great that these songs are included on this CD tho. And Blow Up, (included on the Rat Music for Rat People lp back in the day), is very fine. They do a cool cover of the Velvet's What Goes On, and the great acoustic version of Sound of the Rain is a foreshadowing of their version on the 2nd Rank and File album (yum!)...good deal.
