"I missed singing in a group, missed being one of three or four people singing together," Stewart explains. "Certainly this is a sound I personally wanted to get back to." So Stewart recruited wife and longtime singing partner Buffy Ford Stewart and rising young singer-songwriter-musicians Dave Crossland and John Hoke to tackle material as old as "Wild Mountain Thyme" and "Twelve Gates to the City," as nouveau classic as Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages" and Tim Hardin's "Reason to Believe," as surprising as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "They Call the Wind Mariah," and as recent as Paul Simon's "Boy in the Bubble," Crossland's "Blood in the Fields," and Hoke's "Dreamland."
"The origin of a lot of the songs goes back to the Weavers and Pete Seeger," says Stewart, which helps explain why John broke out his banjo for some of the tunes, while adding his guitar and bass to others. Hoke contributes guitar and percussion, Crossland plays guitar, and Ford sings backing vocals and the occasional lead, as do Hoke and Crossland.
The quartet spans generations and musical boundaries with its renditions of songs old and new, with each cover version unlocking a fading memory of the original and appending an energetic freshness. "We've been told that it's not folk," explains Ford, regarding the newer songs. "Some people believe that unless it's a classic old song, it's not folk. That's bull. Folk music is written every day. Folk music grows."

This soundtrack offers a pretty standard mix of new songs, old chestnuts, and excerpts from the score (here by John Debney). On the new tip, Joss Stone and Patti LaBelle engage in an overheated battle of the divas on CD opener "Stir It Up," a bouncy piece of fluff that sounds more like Aretha Franklin circa "Freeway of Love" than classic soul. Other originals include Barenaked Ladies' "One Little Slip" (this movie's answer to Counting Crows' "Accidentally in Love" from Shrek 2) and the Cheetah Girls' peppy-but-bland cover of "Shake Your Tail Feather." But the real highlights are the songs performed by the movie's vocal cast, which includes Joan Cusack, Garry Marshall, Zach Braff, Steve Zahn, and Amy Sedaris. Their group cover of Elton John and Kiki Dee's "Don¹t Go Breaking My Heart," for instance, sounds as if half of them were drunk in the recording studio (and this is meant as a compliment.) Braff's a cappella version of "We Are the Champions" is smashing and Cusack and Zahn's take on the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" is completely demented. The kids will laugh; their parents will laugh even harder for completely different reasons. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
my little one loves Chicken Little.......2007-04-05
My husband bought the Chicken Little movie for our 3 year old (mostly to get us OFF the Cars movie that we all have memorized) and he fell in love with it! He likes to act out the scenes and loves the music. He loves this CD at night when he's going to bed. We all have to dance to One Little Slip (he knows all the words) and then we have to "shake our tail feathers" before he jumps in bed every night! I enjoy the cd too, so it's good for everyone!
this is a great kids cd!!.......2007-03-24
My daughter absolutely loves this cd. I could not find it anywhere until i looked on amazon, so thank you amazon!!
Great soundtrack for the children, especially if they liked the movie!.......2007-03-14
My son loved the movie Chicken Little, so we decided to purchase this for him to listen to on his discman. He loves the soundtrack as much as the movie, which made it an awesome investment(especially since the soundtrack has many good singers that aren't too hard on the ears for the adult crowdes either). My son was very happy with this item, and so was I.
Her favorite gift..........2006-12-23
I bought the CD to accompany the movie. My four year old watches the movie everyday. When I gave her the CD, after listening to it nightly, she takes it to bed with her everynight where I have to pry it out of her hands after she falls off to sleep. I don't get it, but she does...so it's worth what I paid for it.
Chicken Little Soundtrack.......2006-08-29
This is a great soundtrack from a variety of different artists. If your child loved the movie you will absolutely love this CD!!!

IMPRESSED.......2007-05-21
AS A FIRST TIME BUYER AT AMAZON,I AM IMPRESSED AT THE QUALITY OF CD AND TIME OF SERVICE
St. Paul's Cathedral ImpressiveCollection of Anglican Hymns.......2007-01-24
St. Paul's Cathdral is the second largest cathedral church in the basilican style, exceeded only by St. Peter's Rome. New York City's St. John the Divine is larger than St. Paul's, but with decidely gothic elements. All three cathedrals have fine choirs, but St. Paul's and St. John's continue the noble and unique sound of boys and men in the English tradition. St. Paul's great organ is one of the world's finest, with a decay of seven seconds. The great hymns are all here, conducted by John Scott, only recently appointed organist of St. Thomas' Church, Fifth Avenue, New York City. This is a recording will a be prized addition to your library of choral music. You will not be disappointed.
Excellent Cathedral Organ & Choral .......2006-02-24
This selection of recordings by The Choir of St. Paul's Cathedral contains pieces representative of traditional Anglican musical liturgy. The technical aspects of this production on compact disk seem to be outstanding, but beware that the original recordings were in some cases less than stellar. Another reviewer points out that on some tracks the lyrics sung by the choir are overwhelmed by the superb organ playing, which no doubt occurred due to inadequate microphone placement during the recording sessions. That said, I nevertheless rate this presentation of the St. Paul's Choir highly. It provides a mixture of musical types. In addition to the choir, the CD presents the work of four organists, including a marvelous organ solo, as well as several pieces sung a cappella by the choir and its boy treble soloists. I especially recommend this choir's rendetion of Gregorio Allegri's "Miserere," which features the voices of two boy trebles, a boy alto and a bass, which yeilds a mesmerizing experience. Unless one is acquiring full sets of the St. Paul's Choir's music, this compact disk should delight anyone interested in traditional cathedral organ and choral music.
LACK OF DICTION?!!!.......2003-11-12
Obviously the individual who wrote the review including the "marred by lack of diction" remark is not too familiar with the traditional boychoir sound. I am moved to sickness that they were so openly compared with the sound of the all-too-familiar MTC. THOSE WERE ADULTS!!! These are boys! Boys cannot give the kind of sound of the MTC because their voices are not developed enough. The greatest hope a boychoir has of wowing audiences is in their contrast in dynamics. They model this beautiffully in their acapella pieces. In their accompanied pieces, I feel they hold their own above the (sometimes blearing) organ.
Know the genre a little better before you slander a great performance.
Marred by lack of diction.......2003-04-22
The singing is beautiful, melodious and full of harmony. The organ would make Bach proud.
But the lyrics do not stand out. In fact, they are obliterated by the surrounding melodies.
I hate to do this, but I am comparing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. These little boys would learn from them.
It is a pity that these grand lyrics should be obscured by inept singing by a choir of young boys and men.

Awesome Sound.......2007-04-10
I've got both studio albums (which are pretty darn good), and usually I don't like many live albums since the sound quality sometimes leaves things to be desired.
That's not that case with this album. It's very high quality CD and DVD sound. It's like a "best of" album in an acoustic version (duh), and I like it so much I listen to the acoustic versions of these songs more than the studio versions! The intro to "The Truth" is awesome, and I like the cover of Pearl Jam's "Immortality" much better than the original.
Well worth it... even if you don't own any other Seether albums.
Seether One Cold Night.......2007-03-13
Great album, Great DVD, even video & interveiw.
Must buy
JUST GET EEEEEEEEEEET ! ! :).......2007-02-02
I like all kinds of music, really like Seether, and love this CD. All of their hits acoustic...it just rocks, and it was recorded well. On a good system you can hear all the instrument details! MUST HAVE!!
Good 4.......2006-11-11
I had their first CD, and while it was good, the songs werent anything spectacular. So it was hit or miss for me. Soetimes id play a track or 2, so when K&E came out i never bothered with it.
I was browsing in the store and saw this. The ambiance on the cover kind of sucked me in. I tend to like this acoustic style stuff. Looked at the tracklisting and figured these songs could sound good in this setting. So i picked it up.
And as i figured, they pretty much play it safe and go note-for-note with the studio stuff. Not a bad thing, but nothing risky is attempted here except possibly the Pearl Jam cover of "Immortality" which is really well done. The sound quality is crisp, and the delivery is sincere..
So i will say that this CD got me re-interested in these guys a bit. I always liked Morgans laid back singing style. Lyrically, some are quite good. Some a bit hollow, but arent terrible by any means. Just a bit basic. If you liked Seether before, youll LOVE them after this. If you were a bit reluctant, this is a great place to start.
Way better!!!.......2006-10-29
I'm a big fan of Seether and was eager to get my hands on this album, and i wasn't dissapointed at all!
This cd was everything i wanted out of a live performance and much, much more, there was even a song i hadn't heard as i didn't have the first album.
Worth every penny!

Wonderful Singer.......2007-07-21
Surely Darlene Koldenhoven has one of the most beautiful female voices in the world. The song selections, the accompanying music and the quality of recording are supurb.
Calming beauty.......2007-05-28
Infinite Voice is one of my favorite albums to pop into the player after a long and difficult day at work. Its soothing lightly classical pieces with Koldenhoven's angelic vocals do much to sooth an agitated spirit and sing peace to the soul. Wonderful Darlene! We need more like this.
A beautiful voice.......2007-04-23
A classically trained vocalist with a Master's Degree in music from the Chicago Conservatory College, the golden voiced Darlene Koldenhoven has participated in a number of high profile pop culture products. In the 1980's she appeared on jazz composer Clare Fisher's Brazilian jazz vocal project, Freefall, which was awarded a Grammy in 1986 for Best Jazz Vocal Performance by a Group. In the 90's she appeared in and served as choir director for both Sister Act films, and in 1994 sung with Yanni Live at the Acropolis, a concert film reportedly seen by nearly 500 million people worldwide. She has also sung on recordings with Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart, David Byrne, and Ramsey Lewis, among others, and has authored a set of musical instruction books and CDs entitled Train Your Voice.
In the late 90's Koldenhoven began writing and producing her own solo recordings, including the adult contemporary Keys to the World, a gospel album called Free to Serve, and the Christmas album Heavenly Peace. This year she's back with an all new recording, entitled Infinite Voice, a collection of classically inspired compositions and new age arrangements of classics. Ms Koldenhoven's 5-ocatve voice is the only one featured on this recording, in some places layered to give a choral effect. Most of the instrumentation is synthetic, though several songs include acoustic instrumental performances from guitar, English Horn, oboe, flue, didgeridoo, and percussion.
Infinite Voice is a delicate and beautiful recording that will appeal to fans of light classical vocals from the voices of equally talented singers such as Filippa Giordano, Hayley Westerna, or Sissel.

Customer Reviews:
Two tracks I really like.......2007-07-21
The Mission Impossible theme is performed well.
The Fireball theme is actually much improved on this version. I prefer the orchestra and the vocals over the original.
Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15
As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".
Mediocre.......2006-05-17
The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.
One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06
I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.
Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24
Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.

Based on a story by Guy de Maupassant, Stephen Hartke's The Greater Good is an effective piece of musical storytelling. Against the background of the Franco-Prussian War a group of arrogant French bourgeois, a political agitator and a pair of nuns are traveling by coach to escape the Germans. Among them is Boule de Suif (literally, "Butterball" or, more appallingly, "ball of lard"), a generously built prostitute. Trapped in the coach and then in a German-occupied inn, Boule turns out to be a sensitive, generous woman (yes, a prostitute with a heart of gold). When it looks as if the only way they group will escape is if Boule sleeps with the Prussian Commandant, she does so for "the greater good" despite her hatred of the Germans. Rather than being grateful, her dreadful coach-mates judge her and ostracize her. It's a nasty satire of petit bourgeois shallowness and hypocrisy and a good story.
Hartke's music is colorful and his orchestration paints situations - we hear the rocking of the coach, strings yawn out of boredom or exhaustion, the harps tinkle when it snows. He uses the light clanging of spoons when the group finally gets to eat at the Inn and, when Boule is doing her duty with the Prussian officer, we hear the creaking of bedsprings. The vocal lines are more exclamatory than melodic. The cast, led by Caroline Worra's Boule, is uniformly excellent. This is an interesting piece, worth hearing more than once. If only Naxos had supplied a libretto - the track-by-track synopsis is good, but much of the text gets lost. --Robert Levine

There's more to us then surgeons can remove..........2005-11-06
"On a clear day rise and look around you", that is the clarion call from Allan Jay Lerner, from his lyric and libretto of "On A Clear Day". Produced for the 65' 66' Broadway season this charming score remains one of my favorites, composed by Burton Lane and lyrics by the aforementioned Mr. Lerner. The team of Lane and Lerner had previously created "Brigadoon" and a few MGM musical scores. Then in the late fifties Mr Lerner who was on the lookout for a new collaborator, met Mr Lowe at The Lambs Club, and, well they owned Broadway for many a year. Lowe wanted to move back to Europe and enjoy the spoils of his life while Lerner kept going and enlisted Mr Lane to compose this exquisite score. Barbara Harris and John Cullum were the leads in this tale of past lives intersecting with present. The show had a modest run in part because the book was too muddled. I have heard that the book is being rewritten and there will be a revival. It certainly deserves it, lesser shows have been brought back to life while this has been sadly neglected. Meanwhile you can pick up the original cast recording and sing along...you can see forever more. A beautiful score, truely.
CLEAR DAY is a great Broadway score........2004-12-18
When I first heard this score when the show came out in the mid-Sixties, I couldn't get enough of it. The great Barbara Harris was in her prime and she gave the material the kind of voice it deserved. (Unfortunately, Barbra Streisand and Yves Montand didn't do justice to the material. This is a musical with a number of interesting characters and not one that should focus on a STAR. In fact, when the DVD of the movie comes out, I want to add it to my collection if for no other reason than Montand singing the title song. How the French tongue and heavy accent virtually creams some of the lovely songs is enough to put this one in the "don't let this happen to you when casting a movie musical" category.) But the Broadway album captures the musicality of the score very well, considering the recording techniques in the Sixites were nothing like the digital quality today. So, the show isn't exactly My Fair Lady, but Burton Lane and Alan Jay Lerner could sure crank out great songs, and Clear Day is proof positive of that fact. And, if you're feeling down in the dumps, just listen to Barbara Harris sing "Hurry, It's Lovely Up Here!" I dare you to stay depressed after that one!
Delightful score, enlivened by some first rate performances.......2004-03-02
After Fritz Loewe retired, Alan Jay Lerner tried to team with composer Richard Rodgers (who had recently lost Oscar Hammerstein to cancer.) It was a match seemingly made in heaven that quickly deteriorated, it is claimed, due to Lerner's erratic work habits. Lerner took the idea next to Burton Lane, a gifted and very under rated composer. Together they created an enjoyable score that never quite fit with Lerner's awkward book. Still, it's the score that is heard on the CD and for the most part, it is a total delight.
This original cast recording (starring the wonderful Barbara Harris and in his first starring role the equally wonderful John Cullum) comes with a good set of notes by Ken Madelbaum and a detailed synopsis to take you through the story song by song.
A wonderful Boadway Show.......2003-07-20
I was one of the people lucky enough to see this show on Broadway and loved it. The music on the CD is wonderful. I was not impressed with the liner notes because they tell of Alan Jay Lerner's problems producing the show instead of giving the listener an idea of the plot. William Daniel is interested in climbing in the corporate world so he sends his fiancee, Daisy, to a Psychiatrist to help her stop smoking. The Psychiatrist is John Cullum. While he is hynotizing her to stop smoking, she goes into a past life where she was Melinda, a refined but put upon young woman. During the past sequences, the music is beautiful. I was especially impressed with Clifford David who sings on a bare stage. I expected him to have a big career. The news gets out so a millionaire comes to the Doctor to find out how he can leave his money to himself when he is born again. William Daniel is trying to explain to Daisy that though they are in their 20's, life will be sweet after he retires. John Collum is in love with Melinda which upsets Daisy, but he finally decides they are are the same woman and wants her. In the Finale they get together. I hope this brief summary helps someone who is listening to the gorgeous Burton Lane music and clever Alan Jay Lerner lyrics enjoy the CD more.
A Few Interesting Tidbits.......2002-12-24
I loved this album when it was out in vinyl, and saw the road show version with John Raitt. The reviews on Amazon.com capture the essence of the show. It had an interesting pre-Broadway history. Louis Jordan actually was the male lead in the show and left during it's out of town run. John Cullum who took over having played a supporting role in "Camelot" for Alan Jay Lerner, and was a durable replacement, who went on to many leading roles in musicals including the current "Urinetown" in NYC. Secondly "On a Clear Day" was produced by Robert Goulet and his partner Norman Rosemont, who had the ROGO Productions partnership. Mr. Goulet of course rose to stardom while performing in "Camelot",
and for years did road show versions of "On A Clear Day". He even included two numbers from the show on his terrific "On Broadway" album (available on CD) that was released the same year as the show.

A Timeless Gem.......2004-10-26
In college in the early 70s, my roommates and I gave as much listening time to our John Stewart LPs as we did any other music that was more commercially popular at the time. I spent hours figuring out the guitar chords to the songs on California Bloodlines. I lost that LP 25 years ago, but I still know all the words to all the wonderful songs. I just got this CD (why did it take me so long?) and put it on. All the great songs were immediately so familiar, like I never left them. California Bloodlines is a masterpiece of acoustic folk rock music, and it still sounds great, and Willard isn't bad either. This Bear Family CD has the high quality audio that John Stewart deserves. John Stewart is an American treasure.
Top ten.......2003-09-30
Absolutely timeless. I never liked the best selling "Gold" album much, and I think Willard is disappointing, but "California Bloodlines" is up there with the best of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and John Prine. The lyrics of Razor Back Woman ("these were the days my sprung lungs will never forget") and just about every other song here are memorable. I'm always surprised that so few people know about this great album!
California Folk, and a Whole Lot More.......2001-02-07
Anyone wanting to hear "Americana" before the term was coined to describe country music that isn't Nashville, folk music with a beat, or great songwriting on American themes, should order this CD. I have had the vinyl since 1970, and believe Stewart's California Bloodlines to be one of the ten best albums ever recorded. Having said that, Williard naturally has a tall order to fill, but if you like Stewart at all, you will also enjoy Willard. God bless John Stewart, I am glad to have been along with him for the ride since 1963.
One of the best albums of the rock era.......2000-06-15
California Bloodlines was voted by Rolling Stone as one of the best albums of the rock era in a 1980's poll, and this CD is a wonderful remastering of the album. The album was recorded live in the studio in Nashville in 1969, while across the hall Dylan was recording Nashville Skyline. The two albums could be considered similarly inspired by two of the great songwriters of the modern era. However, the album is not "Country" as in the current understanding of the term. It is more like "Americana" before that term was known. The playing is inspired and the songs terrific evocations of American life. Willard, Stewarts next album, is coupled with Bloodlines, but is entirely different. Produced by Peter Asher, who was famous for producing James Taylor and Linda Rondstadt, as well as being part of the 60's pop group Peter and Gordon, the album is much more polished than Bloodlines. However, for John's music, that is not necessarily a good thing. Stewart's songs are about the rough edges of Amercian life, organic in their observations, and the polished and overproduced performances detract rather than add to the songs. Which is why the overall rating of the CD is not 5 stars. However, as an overall disc, any CD with California Bloodlines is worth owning. Bloodlines is a ten.
California Bloodlines Now a CD!.......2000-03-07
As the definitive John Stewart, California Bloodlines (recorded live), has long been one of my favorite memories of the era. I was thrilled when Capitol released the commemorative vinyl issue of this album many years ago.
I gave up trying to vinyl restore two of my favorite "Bloodlines" cuts, "Mother Country," and "Pirates Of Stone County Road," because of the low-volume passages and decided to buy this import.
I wasn't sorry. If you love what John Stewart vinyl added to the music of the 70s, you need this CD.
Consider the more studio-polished "Willard" cuts to be a bonus, but one of the missing two tracks (Great White Cathedrals) was another of my favorites. If you missed the info, "Willard -2" means it's missing two "Willard" tracks.
Nonetheless, California Bloodlines, lying atop the velvet silence of digital audio is a real treat to these aging ears, and was a CD worth both the money, and the short wait for it to arrive.
