Like its predecessor, this installment in the Live at the Future Primitive Soundsession series features two DJs on five turntables in a live performance at a San Francisco club. Z-Trip and Radar might not be quite as well-known as Cut Chemist (Ozomatli, Jurassic 5) or Shortkut (Invisibl Skratch Piklz), but that doesn't make them any less impressive on the turntables. In fact, their set--built around a lot of classic rock (Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion," Rush's "Tom Sawyer") and hip-hop (Black Sheep's "This or That," LL Cool J's "Rock the Bells," and many more)--is, if anything, more fun than their counterparts' effort. Listening to favorites like the Beastie Boys' "Hey Ladies," Queen's "Flash's Theme," and Eric B & Rakim's "Paid in Full" reimagined in this setting gives the songs a whole new life. An instant party. --Randy Silver

4 out of 5 stars It Would be a F--king Crime to Not Own This Album.......2004-08-09

A friend of mine (Kyle Bradley you're a Bad Mother F--ker like Samuel Jackson's wallet) burned a live show of DJ Z-Trip performing in Los Angeles. I played it and it blew my brains out onto a wall. Whenever I play the CD for anyone, they always want a copy for themselves. The same goes for this album. Separately, Z-Trip and Radar are both mega-talents in the hip-hop field, but they're two very distinctively, different DJ's. If you check the album out, you'll notice that Z-Trip is the orchestrator who digs in those crates and finds the obscure party breaks, melding your favorites, mixing 70's & 80's rock, old & new school rap, r&b, and even heavy metal instrumentals (Uneasy Listening-"A must have mixtape", Rolling Stone). Radar, on the other slip mats, assassinates the wax, literally leaving the records in pain after cutting their vinyl throats. This album is exactly what any hip-hop, or rock head needs for a good party. Throw this in with the prior installment of Future Primitive Vol. 1 and you'll have friends buzzing off the music more than the drinks. Check out Volume 3 in the future (no pun intended) with Cut Chemist and Z-Trip on the same album...or so it has been rumored.

5 out of 5 stars Only the Beginning.......2003-10-26

Growing up in Phoenix in the mid 90's I was searching 4 sumthing new in music. Heard Z-Trip spinnin on Majik 107(not around anymore) spinnin new hip hop & new underground sounds live... followed him 2 all the spots he spun...meantime Radar was innovatin a scratch & creatin music off of only one table. 2 of the best dj's in my opinion...came together along with Emile... creating the Bomb Shelter Djs... Now...I wasn't amazed @ their sudden explosion across the globe. I already knew how good these guys were. These guys R hella good. Z can rock parties of any type. Radar...U can find him performing with ASU orchestra behind him live in AZ. I jam this cd a lot while herding sheep or working at my assembly job... Instant classic...even my Old Skool Rock Dad loves it. Buy this CD...its only a taste of whats 2 come soon again from these true pioneers on the turntable.

5 out of 5 stars Fan-spanking-tastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-03-23

if you like DJ culture, old rock and rap songs, then you would be a silly [twit] to not own this CD. i first heard about Radar and Z-trip when a friend of mine came back from the Coachella dance festival thing. well, lucky enough, my local "megamusic chain" store had it in stock. it now becomes a proud edition to my family of CDs. the best thing about this is it's a live recording, and they pull some great scratching, and beat matching, with hardly a mistake. ive copied mine, and keep the original nice and clean. the track selection is awesome too. this is the future of music. what a classic...

5 out of 5 stars just plain fun, great cd.......2002-12-27

this cd is absolutely great. z-trip plays music from so many genres and mixes them all together in a high energy, eclectic party sound. playing zepplin to run dmc to ozzy to pink floyd to anything in the middle. just a great, fun listening experience.

5 out of 5 stars Dopest 5 turntable madness you will hear.......2002-03-28

If you are ever in question of what CD to listen to...Pop this puppy in your deck and enjoy. Z-tip and Radar bring some of the most creative mixes (Biggie & Floyd, Steve Miller & LL Cool J, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Erik B, Aerosmith, and the Who...all make grand appearences). The scratching and remixing of songs on the fly is excellent and the musical taste will get any party going. I am still amazed, three years later, at some of the stuff these guys did (LIVE, none the less). This CD was put into my stereo and it took seriously, two months to come out. You do not grow tired of it. By the way, if you go on a road trip, bring this album. It is by far the best road trip mix to nod your head to. I have yet to meet one unsatisfied customer.

5 out of 5 stars "Falling in Love" is a classic!.......2007-07-04

I bought this album for "Falling in Love" alone, and I give it 5 stars accordingly. To the other reviewer (L.A. Scene) who spent paragraphs telling us he is not a fan of Estefan, I say: If you cannot find a latin influence in a song like "Conga", then you need to keep your opinions to yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Primitive Love CD.......2006-11-05

I have all of the cassette tape of Gloria &Miami sound Machine. I love there music. I decide to purchase the CD's when one of my tapes broke. I am very happy with the cd just has I am happy with my tape.

2 out of 5 stars This Album Misses the Mark.......2005-10-22

The Miami Sound Machine originally started out as a band that did their recordings in Spanish. It would not be until the 1980s when the group would officially "crossover" into English Speaking albums. Their first attempt at crossover was the 1984 album "Eyes of Innocence" that produced a song called "Dr. Beat" that gained some notoriety in Europe. It would really be their 1986 follow-up album, "Primitive Love" that would propel the group, and most notably their lead singer Gloria Estefan to superstardom. I can't say that I am a fan of the Miami Sound Machine or Gloria Estefan - because I'm not. However, I do like a Latin influence in pop music, so I figured I would go deeper into this album and see if there was anything that would change my mind. With a couple of exceptions, there was little that changed my mind.

The overall problem I have with this album is that I really don't get a good sense for the Latin influence on this album. Perhaps I am being hard on the Miami Sound Machine because it's quite possible that they didn't intend to make an English Speaking album with a Latin influence. However, even if "Primitive Love" was an album done by a non-crossover artist, I think I would still be quite disappointed with this album. I found this album to be reminiscent of early 80s pop with plenty of synthetic "early 80s" style music as a major element.

I also must admit that I am not a huge Gloria Estefan fan. Today the term "Diva" is used to describe a great female vocalist. While I do think Estefan does an admirable job on vocals, outside of a couple of songs ("Words Get in the Way" and "Surrender Paradise") - there really isn't much that makes me consider Estefan a true "Diva". And while I'm still not a fan, I think the argument can certainly be made that Estefan's later work may have put her into the "Diva" category. It's just that I don't feel that this album contributes to help her elevate to that level.

I must admit, looking at the timeframe of the release of "Primitive Love", the success of this album really surprises me. It was in the mid-1980s, that the pop music landscape was beginning to move to a more "natural" guitar-laden sound. Many artists that recorded Synth-Pop songs in the mid 1980s soon began to struggle maintaining commercial success in this timeframe. Yet, somehow the Miami Sound Machine did manage to succeed and overcome this. The only reason I can think of is that CBS Records was smart in how they released the singles - they focused on the singles that did not seem to fit the early 1980s mold.

The song that propelled the Miami Sound Machine to pop stars would be the song "Conga". When this was released as a single, I wasn't too impressed with this song. Sometimes a song will grow on me the more I listen to it. Unfortunately this was not the case with "Conga". Yes this song has a Latin influence, but to me it really doesn't capture me. I guess the bottom line is I feel that this is an overrated track.

As for the other singles that were released I actually found them much more enjoyable. "Bad Boy" is probably my favorite of these tracks. I wouldn't say that "Bad Boy" is a total Latin song. In this song, I hear Latin elements mixed with some conventional pop elements. I happen to like the way that the horns are used in this song. I also think that that there is some creative use of percussion and guitar work in this song. "Words Get in the Way" is one of the tracks where I do think Gloria Estefan's vocals dominate the song. This is the one song on the album written by Gloria Estefan - and it's really well-written. The song deals with a woman singing about the end of a long-term relationship. This is a soft melody - not much of a Latin influence and it's really carried by the vocals. Vocals also play a nice role on "Falling in Love". This song has more of a conventional pop-feel. On this particular song it isn't really Estefan's vocals, but some of the outstanding background vocal harmonies on the chorus that give this song a good feel.

The two worst songs on the collection happen to be the first two songs. "Body to Body" is one of those songs that has an early 1980s feel. However, it's not even a good early 80s song - it is very synthesizer-heavy and way overmixed. I also didn't hear much of a Latin influence in that song. While the next song, "Primitive Love" has a slight Latin influence, I still found this another song with an early 80s feel that was overmixed. The bottom line is that the title-track isn't a very good song either.

There are some other songs with an early 80s feel that are better. "Mucho Money" is also a song with an early 80s feel. "Mucho Money" also does a better job at integrating the Latin influence with the 80s sound. "Movies" is a song that has less of a Latin feel, but still maintains that 80s influence. The chorus almost reminds me a bit of Dan Hartman's "Instant Replay". Next to "Bad Boy", perhaps the best track on this collection is "Surrender Paradise". In a way, this song almost has more of a South Pacific feel to it. Yes there is a Synthesizer element in this slow song, but this is one of the tracks whether Estefan's voice really shines. I'm surprised this song didn't get more airplay - it is very good.

Overall, the poor early 80s style music and not the depth of the Latin influence were too much for me to overcome. This album has its moments, but overall is a disappointing.

1 out of 5 stars OMG THIS IS CHEAP MUSIC.......2005-03-06

CONGA is now a classic latino crossover, but do not represent the entire hispanic comunitty. This sophomore album by the Miami Sound Machine, was like a rehearsel one. The tracks that didn't hit the top 10 a pure fillers, and the ones that did like BAD BOYS(the most digeastable one) and WORDS GET IN THE WAY( a ballad that falls into the oblivion) are so dated, is most be said that DR. BEAT was more clever than any of the songs feauture here. Not worth it. Buy the best album of Gloria wich is in fact 1998's Gloria!.

5 out of 5 stars Primitive Love (1985) Miami Sound Machine.......2004-07-16

After the failed success of their 1984 album, Eyes Of Innocence, Miami Sound Machine went back into the studio one year later and released their 1985 album, Primitive Love. This was the album that got them the stardom they were longing for. And this is the album that is my favorite. There are so many great songs on this album, that every Gloria Estefan fan should listen to it constantly.

BODY TO BODY
A song that I could listen to, but not constantly.

PRIMITIVE LOVE
This is much better than Body To Body. Great arrangements, great vocals. It's just great all around.

WORDS GET IN THE WAY
The first single from the album. This song is what made the band famous and is one of my favorites. The song is also my mother's favorite. This one just take me back to my childhood days.

BAD BOY
The second single from the album. I love this one because of it's catchy lyrics, it's catchy harmonies and melodies, and it's catchy beats and arrangements. This one should sound familiar to everyone if you all saw the hit film, Three Men And A Baby.

FALLING IN LOVE (UH-OH)
The third single from the album. This yet another one of my absolute favorites. I can't turn on off this album without listening to this song.

CONGA
The fourth and final single from the album. This song will remain a classic song for all eternity. It has been doing so ever since its release. It has appeared in many films over the years, but the only movie I know this song appeared in was The Birdcage.

MUCHO MONEY
I get a kick out of this one because of it's lyrics and it's sound. My favorite part of the song is when you hear Gloria sing, 'E-bah, E-bah, E-bah'!

YOU MADE A FOOL OF ME
I love this one because of how soothing it sounds.

MOVIES
Not bad.

SURRENDER PARADISE
Not bad.

This is one of the best albums ever made and if you are a Gloria fan, then you should have this album.

I picked this up because of the numerous singles that I've heard in DJ mixes. This album is a far cry from the jump-up break beat tracks I've come to love. I really wish I had something positive to say, but $19 later, I'm feeling bitter.

Amazon.com's Best of 1998

In a year in which DJs asserted that, yes, they too are musicians, it was the duo of Cut Chemist (a turntablist in Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli) and Shortkut (a member, along with DJ Qbert and Mix Master Mike, of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz), spinning live at a San Francisco party that put the proof in the pudding. Mixing albums from across the decades, some familiar and some obscure, the duo create something entirely--and undeniably--their own. --Randy Silver

Amazon.com

In the beginning, hip-hop was all about the DJ. The DJ rocked the party, keeping the flow going, and to help raise the level of excitement, he--and, back then, it was always he--might employ an MC to shout some catch phrases over the music. But for hip-hop to become pop and rock & roll, a frontman was needed, and the MC became dominant. Not so anymore, as an underground school of self-styled turntablists--DJs with a fancy name for themselves--eschew the MCs and rock the party themselves. Recorded live at San Francisco's Future Primitive Soundsession party, DJs Shortkut (one of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, along with Mix Master Mike) and Cut Chemist (of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli) let loose on this disc: two DJs, five turntables, 70 minutes, and no overdubs. It's an astounding display both of their own technical skills and of their ability to keep a party grooving; it's amazingly danceable but punctuated with moments of jaw-dropping virtuosity. May the party never end. --Randy Silver

Album Description

This is the one that started it all! The first officially released recordings from the legendary Future Primitive sessions in San Francisco, which later gave birth to 'Brainfreeze' & everything that followed. Here Cut Chemist battles Shortkut in a ferocious non-stop attack of vintage 45 funk, hip hop classics & undiscovered breaks, beats & dialogue (much of which was later to find it's way onto Jurassic 5's early releases via Cut's production, particularly in the monumental 'Lesson 5'). This is a landmark recording in the history of turntablism. 70 minutes, 23 tracks.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars This album bored me.......2006-01-13

Unless you are really into turntablism and samples, don't bother with this album. This album is best for DJ's and music nerds.

I found it a little boring.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet son of a bee sting..........2005-08-11

A truly amazing cd. I have a hip-hop/ turntablism/ soulful jazz/ deep house/ downtempo/ weird foreign stuff radio show and this is my favorite cd. I just start giggling like a little girl when I hear their eclectic selections. They don't let up through this whole cd and other than Q-Bert these guys have some of the best samples around. Hell, I just finished listening to it, straight through and I've had it for years. Worth the price of admission.

5 out of 5 stars Yup, I was fooled........2003-10-09

This set sounded so perfect that I figured it HAD to be rehearsed. The transitions are too smooth, the mixes too perfect, the skratchin' too ill. But according to another reviewer, these two had never worked together, or even MET, prior to this encounter. That makes it all the sweeter. It's one of the best examples out there of just what DJs can do. Seventy minutes of nonstop scratching, ingenious samples, and unbeatable party beats-- this is the album I always reach for when I'm trying to convince unbelievers of the power of the DJ. And more often than not, they're sold on the idea.

With a little more lift and a little more thrust on the marketing side, this series could have taken off in a big way. As it is, we've got two incredible albums of hip-hop goodness that're going to age incredibly well, no question about it. If you don't have them already, what the hell are you waiting for?

5 out of 5 stars Speechless... after witnessing the birth of a new art form!.......2002-04-03

Okay, everybody, I was skeptical when this CD was put in my hand. I grew up listening to old school rap (Run-DMC, the Beasties, LL,) and thought that DJ-ing was just a beat for the MCs. Then, of course, I was disgusted by Puffy and all that "sampling" of the 90s. I thought to myself before I put this CD on: "Well, this can't possibly be art, or even innovative or interesting. I mean, all the guys are doing is mixing other people's music, just like Puffy... and that stuff was so WEAK."

Let me just say: I was never more wrong.

This CD is a work of genius. I can't believe I am saying that, but truth is truth.

True, these guys are taking music other people made, but they are putting it together in totally new ways. As one reviewer said before-- and he was right on the money-- this is a new form of art much like Jazz. They are using other music as their paint, but making totally new canvasses with it. And, it is listenable, not just academic! This CD is both humbling and inspiring.

Words fail me.

Why?

Because my jaw is still dragging on the floor!!

4 out of 5 stars strictly for scratch addicts.......2002-02-17

I was at the 'Bronx To Brixton' event at the Brixton Academy sometime in 98, when some little American dude who had a stall set up pressed this CD on me. [...]. I somehow managed not to lose it that night, took it home, fired up a zoobie and slapped it on. And?...let me first say this is the probably the most innovative mix CD I've ever heard. Chemist and Shortkut throw together such an amazingly diverse mixture of obscure samples, bizzare skits and classic tracks that it's impossible not to be blown away initially. Featuring instrumentals from the likes of Group Home, J5, Beatnuts, KRS, and some cool stuff I've never heard before, this would be the ultimate mix album were it not for one glaring downside...THERE'S TOO MUCH [...] SCRATCHING!.It does not let up ONCE during the entire 70 mins. It gets to the point where you wish they'd give it a rest just so you can enjoy the fantastic tracks they're scratching over. Don't get me wrong, I love scratching, but when you hear it continously for 70 mins you just want to scream and kick your stereo. If Chemist and Shortkut can somehow curb their scratch tendencies, I'd definately buy something else by them, but this is strictly for scratch addicts.

I picked up this CD around 1999 or 2000. At the time I had just discovered Dibbs so I purchased all his material out then, not aware of what I was getting into with this one.

Upon the first couple of listenings the dope beats obviously stand out, but the subliminal samples were spine tingling to say the least. Granted back then I kind of dismissed the cd as 'weird', and it never got the frequent rotation it deserved. The subject matter I had briefly heard of- Illuminati, New World Order, Trilaterlism and the like. Subconsciously it was sinking in but I never researched the subjects to the extent I should have. Now, further into the Bush Jr. reign, the subject matter couldn't be more cognitive.

I would call this album a window into a new way of thinking. It contains hints into a wealth of information the government does not want you to know. Thus ranks extremely relevant and purposeful, something rare in a hip hop release. Outer Peremiter to the truth is maybe the reference? You will be consumed with curiosity and later outraged if you dig deeper into the material "Outer Perimeter" touches on.

Happy hunting to seekers of knowledge.

5 out of 5 stars Educate Yourself.......2005-06-10

This is a brilliant album. As stated below it has dope beats, it has sweet turntable tricks, but the true brilliance leis in the audio clips and sound bits utilized by Mr. Dibbs. With spoken word from Myron Fagan, Jello Biafra, and George Bush Sr., among others, they paint a paranoid yet informed picture of today's illuminati. This is an important intelligent hip-hop release and should be listened as such. If I had to pick a best track to sample it would the first track "Illuminate" and then "Trilaterism".

5 out of 5 stars AN INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW WORLD ORDER.......2002-12-01

This album is more than dope beats and samples (and dope they are). It is a looking glass for you to step through, a rabbit hole for you to go down; in short, a message from outside the matrix. Its conspiracy theories may have seemed outlandish and even humorous when this album was released. Nowadays after 9-11 it's more scary than funny. This is the soundtrack to the horror movie called "New World Order." Go ahead, take the red pill - get this album.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting sampling, cool stuff.......2001-07-16

I am not a regular fan of this type of music, I just got this CD for free because a record label I intern at had an extra copy. I'm real glad I grabbed it. I can't really say anything intelligent about the music because I'm not too familiar with the genre, but I can say that it's better than most stuff I hear of this type. I really enjoyed the heavy sampling of conspiracy theory and I found it too be entertaining and often humorous. Plus, the last song features samples from King Crimson (!) and Black Sabbath songs, so that right there gives it some merit.

4 out of 5 stars This hip-hop album has a good and unique mixture of beats........1999-10-14

When I first heard this album I wasn't sure of what to think. I listened to certain tracks on it, and then the whole thing. Which almost anyone who gets it will find out they have to do because of the hidden message in their music. What really got me hooked on it was the original beats and the way it flowed together, which i thought was done nicely by DJ JEL and MR DIBBS. The one thing i didn't like was all the sampling. I thought too much was used on some tracks. Overall, this first album has a good unique sound to it. So why should you get this CD? Well, if You like hip-hop, like me, and want to get something different (with an undergroud sound) that hasn't been remixed to shame; this is it!

5 out of 5 stars Primitive is a real find.......2005-08-10

I was turned on to Primitive Reason thru friends that saw them perform in Portugal. After a few weeks with the CD, I knew they were great, but after a few months, I knew they were genius.

Reggae, rap, hip-hop , poetry, horns, hard rock, it's all in there wrapped in a tight and clean infectous groove.

If you like, Jurassic 5, Sublime, System of a Down or anything in between, this CD is for you. Seriously.

5 out of 5 stars 1 of the best albums ever & 1 of the most underrated bands........2004-05-15

Some of Us is simply a masterpiece. Who wants to listen to a different combination of dynamics, such as dub, ska, reggae, metal, rock, world music and so on...you should check Some of Us and PRIMITIVE REASON. Their latest album is THE FIRESCROLL and it's even better than this one. So if this is 5 stars, imagine what THE FIRESCROLL is... check some sounds at: www.primitivereason.org

5 out of 5 stars amazing band.......2004-02-25

Unfortunately little known in the United States, Primitive Reason is very popular in Portugal (although their lyrics are mostly in English). I saw them in 2001 and was totally blown away. They are hard to categorize musically, although if you like Sublime or Rage you will probably love them...their music has elements of hard rock, rap, ska, jazz, punk, among other influences. Lyrically interesting, sophisticated musically, and just generally awsome :)

2 out of 5 stars they used to be a lot better..........2003-03-21

when listening to "Some of Us" i can't help but feel a profound sense of sadness and nostalgia. Primitive Reason, with the music of their first 2 albums ("Alternative Prison" and "Tips & Shortcuts", only available in Portugal i think), had a really strong influence in my 'teenage years'. they once were one of the best Portuguese bands, now i don't know if i can still call them 'portuguese' anymore.
along with drastic changes in the band's line up came (predictable?) changes in their music...for worse, in my opinion. they totally lost that appeal, that seductiveness of their early years.
"Some of Us" lacks the innovative ability, originality and raw power of their first albums...a truly disappointing record! they should consider the possibility of changing their name...they quit being Primitive Reason with this album.

5 out of 5 stars Sublime.......2002-09-02

I love this album it's one of the most complete album i've ever heared talking about the diversity of musics...... it is just my favorite bands but eventhough this album is excellent their 2 previous albuns are even more interesting and coolest than this one.... So if you are able to buy them don't hesitate buy it. I just hope that producers stop being so obsessed to money and let bands record because they have sent a e.p. that the editors wanted a more pop music so they sent it off by themselves by recording it at home in virgin cd's..... this e.p. is called 4.0 and this e.p. has four excellent musics, 2 of them in my opinion the most brilliants they have ever done so buy it to because it's a limited edition and you can oly buy it at their concerts

DJ Wally is up to his old, streetwise tricks again. This time he's pimping rhythms under his more "hardstep" jungle guise, Pish-Posh. If you've never done the hyperactive two-step to his ghetto-, hip-hop-infused sets at his residency at New York City's legendary Konkrete Jungle, then this is the next best thing. With layer upon layer of rolling bass lines, amphetamine-lined dubby sound F/X, cuts like "Dead Men Tell No Tales" and "Fortified Live Remix" are bound to inspire a round of double-time living room body popping and fancy footwork. On "NY Undercover" and "Corrupt Cops," Wally explores an unexpected political territory with more street warfare beats and ricocheting rolls. He's not exactly the Jello Biafra (thankfully so) of drum & bass, but Wally adds a little consciousness to the jungle dance floor. --Daniel Shumate

4 out of 5 stars Essential for any DnB collection........2004-03-11

This was the CD that got me listening to jungle and DnB. It has intense upbeat energy that is almost funny but is definitely fun. For me the upbeat sound keeps it from feeling too repetitive, but some might not have my love for this CD and get kind of tired after hearing it for awhile. It is in the old jungle style of Dieselboys 'Drum and Bass Selection USA'(I know DnB selection isnt 'jump up' but..generally the same style), but I find this album to be a harder hit and not as drawn out. Turn the subwoofer up and roll with the bass!

3 out of 5 stars An immediately likable album.......1999-04-17

For those of you looking for more predictable + repetitive (and hence, more danceable) "drum'n'bass" (is this "drum'n'bass"?) routines, this one is for you. It is easy to immediately like this album, but I wonder for how long it can sustain your interest.

4 out of 5 stars jump up massive!.......1999-02-05

This CD is an excellent purchase for the jump up fan. Tight beats and tight rhymes compliments of DJ Wally (aka Pish Posh). Well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars DJ Wally got the skillz to pay the billz.......1999-02-04

DJ Wally aka Pish Posh comes out blazin' with some of the hottest jump up tracks. All you junglists take notice. Pish Posh flawlessly infuses jump up ahd hip hops stylings. The fortified live remix is simply wicked. The whole album is juiced with mad energy. Mixing Pachelbel's "Canon in D major" with RUN DMC? simply yummy.

    4 out of 5 stars good.......1998-12-20

I thought it was good. But I've don't really like this kinda music although it's definitley something I recomend to get!

    5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable.......2002-01-18

I've always been a fan of hip hop as an artform. Listened to artosts like dr. octagon, dj shadow and krush and knowing that this form of music had a great amount of potential. This cd made me realise that hip hop is in fact the most relevant and maleable form of music out there today. I picked it up on vinyl at a local store because of the shadow track. That track turned out to be very short and not all that great just shadow and cut chemist having fun with some brainfreeze type stuff. But as I got further into it I realized that it had a wealth of great undiscovered to me talent. The track by presage is phenomenal (by far my favorite on the album). It's a 10 minute long epic with amazing vocal samples and a shadowesque sound to the music. I ended up buying presage's outer limits cd because of this song and that too is a great cd. Also on this album are dj faust, the mammal, dj zeph and a host of others. I don't have the track list with me so it's a little hard to remember all thats on there, but it is a solid album with a prevailing theme: hip hop is reconstructing itself, watch out.

Well worth it for the stuff featured on Alien but not an album that will appeal to everyone. Has some great breaks going between hyper and chilled. Got some bad press from people who need their music with numbers but for the originators out there this is a breath of fresh air. Worked really well as the habitat soundrack to blend nicely with the hammers being thrown down by Getz and crew!
